As a recent "dutchess" of Kabuki... you would think I would be more excited about reviewing this place. But time and time again, I've been slapped with disappointment. The worst is when you spend $40 on a meal and still leave... hungry. Just ask my husband. After our dinner date, I went home and made dinner because we were still hungry.
I've tried their soon du bo, assorted variety of sushi, nabeyaki udon, stone bimbimbap, fried rice and it's not good. I've given them so many chances and enough is enough. They don't even give you korean side dishes when you order korean dishes. What is this blasphemy. With so much competition around the area, it's apparent the sushi was frozen and whatever attempt at restaurant menu marketing is polvarized by their skimpy portions. I ordered a poke bowl the other week and it was an absolute joke. With Poke Poke, less than a mile from your restaurant... the owners should do their homework and actually eat at their competitors. On the outside, it looks good. But out of all the Korean/Japanese fusion places I've been to, this is another that has fallen short.
My frusteration with this location was compounded when we placed a simple order and told the lady with purple hair we wanted a seperate bill for my sister in law who was running late. The waitress ended up writing all over our sushi menu... just to make sure that a shrimp tempura roll and a spicy tuna roll would be on a separate bill. I had asked if it was possible for the spicy california roll to have sauce on the side so I could share with my toddler son. Only to served spicy california roll that has a dark red sauce mixed in with their cucumber. I told another waitress what I ordered, and told her I thought it would be spicy mayo on the side. In return I got a plain california roll with this thick red paste smeared to a small soy sauce bowl. Ordered once, and the order was wrong twice. I'm not heard, so maybe you can hear me here.
The lack of effort here is overwhelming. Providing an extensive menu doesn't work if you don't put quality into what you sell. And when two people order spicy tuna... it's concerning how different the color of the fish can be presented to the same table. Kabuki, I've really REALLY tried to give you a chance because you are so close to family. But it's time to visit other places in your plaza who in my opinion do a much better job than you.
