On the Grid : Kafi Dihei

"What greets you as you walk in is the rose patterned wallpaper, the Biedermeier sofa, fabric covered lampshades, and the warm light. This homey place looks a bit like your grandmother place and very tastefully done. What you would find from second hand shops and flea markets adorn the inviting dining room. There are coffee and cakes, bread and jam, warm goat cheese tarts, roast beef sandwiches and at noon a quiche, - and just like at grandma’s place – everything is homemade." - Saloon

Here’s a review in English: ⸻ We came for brunch with my friend and my 5-year-old daughter, and we had such a lovely experience! The food was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. What really touched me was that they gave my daughter a little book to keep her entertained — such a sweet gesture. I definitely recommend this place, especially for families with kids. It’s a great spot for both adults and little ones!

I’ve been here for brunch several times and it never disappoints. Yes, there’s usually a bit of a wait, like most brunch spots in Zurich, but it’s absolutely worth it. The atmosphere is super cozy, the staff friendly, and the food is both delicious and made with care. Portions are generous, ingredients feel fresh, and there’s always something on the menu that hits the spot. Definitely one of my favorite brunch places in the city!

Google
Excellent place for brunch! No reservations unfortunately you have to queue. Nevertheless prices are normal Zürich prices portions are good and food is tasty! Also environment looks very good!

Google
The atmosphere and staff was excellent. The food was ok but definitely isn’t perfect or close to that. This is the first brunch place I tried at Switzerland so I am not sure the level in here, but I have eaten x100 better brunches in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy etc with a fraction of the price.. Zurich is expensive but what I’d expect getting same quality and variety of ingredients while paying the more than double. They can definitely add different flavours to their plates, maybe some pickles jars idk everything was tasting okay but very very plain.

Google
It’s very long wait (40min!) but nice brunch experience! Their drink menu definitely are more creative than a usual cafe! Got a special cappuccino with orange peel, chocolate and cinnamon. Friends got marshmallow cappuccino. Both are nice! Foodwise, my breakfast pie was recommendable if you don’t mind a bit of heavy meal for your brunch. Great combination of various textures and tastes. Ambience was nice with Christmas decors. Staff was friendly.

Google
Cozy brunch place with really good food (many dishes can be made gluten free as well). They don't take reservations, so expect to queue to get a table.

Google
Definitely one of my favourite brunch spots. Especially because they serve brunch not only on Sunday! The food was so delicious and worth the money. Also the matcha and the mimosa were tasty. We did not have to wait - luckily - but the place was crowded. I would recommend coming either early or not on a weekend/holiday. There is also a comfy seating area outside the café.

Google

Yelp
Our first stop once we landed in Zurich on our 1 week Switzerland trip. The restaurant is relatively small and when we came around 9 am on a Friday, it was pretty full so we opted to sit at the bar countertop. My brother got a bacon omelette which he was not particularly impressed with and said he could make the same quality at home. I got the hangover brekkie which consisted of a pile of potato wedges smothered in cheese, a fried egg, 2 slices of bacon, a sausage, and herb cream cheese. This.... was so incredibly heavy - I love potatoes but couldn't only eat half of it. Part of it is because the chef puts the entire plate into like the microwave/oven once everything is plated so the cheese hardens too quickly and the potato wedges were mouth burning hot the entire meal. Even 15 min in, I was burning my mouth on them. The sausage also had an unusual texture and taste to it, I guess I'm used to American sausages but it just did not fit my palette. Also cream cheese is a strange pairing with this dish, something like ranch would have been better. The only redeeming quality was the bacon was perfectly crisp. The cappuccino Dihei was just the boost of caffeine I needed but when I read orange zest as part of the ingredients, I was expecting like finely grated orange, not a thick slice of orange peel hanging off of the cup.

Yelp
I know this sounds ridiculous, but I got my first Bircher muesli here and it was amazing.... I ended up enjoying tasty Bircher muesli the whole trip, but the one here was exceptionally good. They also had tasty coffee, which I appreciated very much. The cafe is cute and small and we ate on the patio. The prices were fairly reasonable for what we got.

Yelp
The coffee lattes are the best I had in Zurich. Interesting interior and nice outside sidewalk tables. Service was pleasant and not rushed.

Yelp
This place is excellent! Upon first impression, there was a lot of people enjoying a morning with bunch at this location. We had a bit of a wait before getting seated because it was fully packed. The food came by quickly and were all amazing quality. The fruits on the fitness breakfast were all well picked and flawless. Giving off great sweetness with each bite. The spreads were easy to spread and tasty. The muesli came extremely fast and was delicious, probably one of the best version of overnight oats that I've had. The sausage on the brekki was well seasoned and scrumptious. The muesli was the best I've ever had, extremely fresh and absolutely delicious. Overall, service was great and the food was all excellent. Would definitely come back here if I had the chance. I definitely recommend giving this place a visit

Yelp
Food is good but our waitress was extremely uninterested in providing even decent service. Very disappointed

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in Zurich. Cute decor, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely food. They have a nice selection of teas (proper tea, not that Lipton dishwater you find in 90% of Zurich restaurants), several delicious desserts, homemade iced teas and lemonade, and always at least one gluten-free dessert choice -- very, very grateful for that, especially for the amazing Orange Almond Cake! The food is simple and freshly made, the ladies always friendly and laid back; and though it is pretty close to the center, it's not really loud or bothered by excessive traffic. Really nice, quiet spot for a chat, a coffee date, or just to enjoy a relaxing breakfast or cup of tea with a book. Love Dihei, will keep coming back :-)

Yelp
Excellent outside seating area, located in a calm neighborhood (a bit far from the bus station) that made me think of the west village in New York. The place was busy with locals and their toddlers. It is very family oriented although I saw also a lot of hipsters. The menu isn't large but it is enough for a morning meal to please anyone. (Ask for the menu in english). I went for the bircher muesli (8chf) which is very local dish, with red berries, nuts, grated apples and whipped cream. It was delicious and fresh, very satisfying on a warm day. It is served with 2 slices of homemade bread loaf and you can ask for some butter (extra 1chf) The coffee was decent but not exceptional which I expected so I don't blame them. The place was busy but we didn't wait for a table as we came a bit later than the formal breakfast time. It is a charming place which I would definitely recommend for a brunch or breakfast for their beautiful (almost kitch) setting and servings.

Yelp
I love it! It's look like a grandma house but still very cute and personal the food tastes great. Personally I'm more into those private places than those one crowed.

Yelp
Excellent location, as the name indicates, you are almost at home. The food is of very good quality, service excellent, and ambiance casual. I can recommend the burger (even if really expensive, it is worth its price) and the waffle. They always have 2-3 specials!

Yelp
Kafi Dihei is probably one of my favourite spots in Zurich! I absolutely love coming here, it's so cozy, cute and laid back that it feels like a little mini-holidays from every day busy life. The cafe is close to Ida Platz, with a super cute Granny-style-interior and picturesque outdoor area where you can enjoy the delicious treats they serve, whether that's the super tasty veggie omelette, the mind blowing cheese cake or a delicious high tea! The staff is lovely, always friendly and helpful and also very very fast, especially given how full the place can be on a Sunday morning/afternoon.

Yelp
Possibly the top 5 best brunch places I have been to worldwide.. Trust me I have been to many to even make that statement. The perfect blend of cozy, great breakfast, great outdoor seating and a bit of a hipster setting in a nice neighborhood in Zurich.5/5 Try the Veg Omelet ans the double shot coffee woth milk (dont know the local name for it). t was amazing!

Yelp
LOVE it! Perfect place for a long brunch. Very crowded but good service and good food. Definitely a place to go back to.

Yelp
This place gets crowded but go anyway since the variety, preparation, and atmosphere are ideal for breakfast or lunch any day of the week. There are numerous non-meat choices and the furniture includes some charming historic chairs and other old-fashioned details. The food is served surprisingly quickly during busy times.

Yelp
I found Kafi Dihei on Yelp and am so glad I did! They have amazing pancakes on the weekends. They are always different and always yummy. It gets rather warm inside so we try to sit outside when it's not freezing. There are blankets and on the best days, visits from Sira the cat. Everything we've tried is fresh and delicious (large breakfast, pancakes, lamb burger, raspberry cheesecake, etc). English menu available and daily specials.

Yelp
My new favourite breakfast/brunch place in Zurich! Took the daily special "blueberry cheesecake pancake", with some extra maple syrup, delicious!! My friend took the french toast, also unbeatable! Great atmosphere, excellent service, friendly waitresses, relaxing.

Yelp
So, we finally found this cafe. Read about it from an e-Newsletter that I subscribe to. It was Sunday, midday, so we thought it wouldn't be too busy. It was still very busy, which is a good sign, right? After all, it is Sunday, and it is brunch o'clock! We end up sitting outside, which is fine, there were cute birds that kept flying in and out of the roofed area. We had a peak inside before sitting down, and it is CUTE! It does look like "dihei", like grandma's living room. I loved the mix of furniture and the colours, the bits and bobs around. As we sat down outside, I wasn't sure if there would be table service or not. I was preparing myself to look at the menu, and go in to order at the bar. Just as we were looking at the menu, the waitress came to bring the order from another table. I already saw from a distance, that her tray was over loaded with the coffee pots and glasses and bottles (why didn't she just come a second time, with the rest of the order?), and the next thing you know, it was on the floor. This happens to any good waiter, but then again, any good waiter would not overload their tray (just saying). I went for a cappuccino and the waffles, sweet. The price was pretty steep! CHF 19.50 for an order of waffles?! I mean I know Zurich is expensive, but I thought, we'll see what these girls are doing differently with these waffles. We got our coffees and complimentary glasses of tap water pretty quickly. My cappuccino was a bit luke warm, it tasted like as if the milk wasn't warmed up. Half an hour passed and no signs of our waffles. I had forgotten about them as well, had I not seen another table get their food before ours, and realising that they came after us. So, when I got a chance, I asked the waitress about our waffles. She apologised and said she would ask in the kitchen. In about 3 minutes, our waffles came out, brought by another girl. (Clearly, they lost the ticket to the food and it was just lingering in the kitchen) I don't want to sound like a total snob, but when I order waffles, I like them to be warm, because how long does it take to make waffles? It's like with pancakes, they're supposed to be warm. Ours were cold. Two waffles covered in icing sugar, a mini jar (egg cup size) of syrup, a bit of fruit mush (raspberries and rhubarb) and a dollop of cream. CHF 19.50. I thought it was a bit overpriced. I ate the whole thing, since I don't waste food, drank my cappuccino and my water. I asked for a refill of the water, and they happily did so. After the waitress cleared our table, she came back with a piece of chocolate cake, as an apology for the late food. I thought this was a nice touch! Not many places would do this, and I have to give them a double thumbs up for this. We asked for the bill, ready to leave after hours of chatting and waiting. My order of waffles and a cappuccino came to CHF 24.- I'll leave it to you to decide.... For me, I will be choosing somewhere else for my next brunch.

Yelp
Really cool and cozy place for a Sunday brunch! So we went there for brunch with a group of 4 adults and 2 children. We had to make reservation one week in advance as this place gets quickly booked. Situated in a very nice neighbourhood in Zurich (walking distance from albisriederplatz) I would say that one of the things that characterize this place is the decoor, it's made to make you feel at home. The place is a bit small but hey, it's part of its charm. The food was great ! The menu has a good variation and everything looked delicious :) We started with coffee (nothing to say there, great coffee), then I had the steak sandwich with caramelised onion filling which was perfectly cooked and really tender. They have homebaked cakes which vary each day (some of us had a piece of the cheese cake and it looked delicious :P ) The service was fast and friendly, but prices were, as usual a bit high in these trendy brunch places Definately a nice address in Zurich!

Yelp
Located in a quiet area this cozy cafe makes you feel like visiting your aunt or grandma. The plates, chairs and tables are mixed from different designs and gives the cafe a charming and personal touch. We shared three different cakes which were very tasty. I can recommend the fresh strawberry / pie plant lemonade with mint, although it was quite a little bit expensive with 8,50 CHF.

Yelp
This is my favorite brunch place in Zurich. The omelets and pancakes are particularly delicious. Make sure to check out the weekly specials on the board. They don't take reservations on weekends, so I recommend either coming very early when they open or late (say after 1pm). With that in mind, you can ask if it's okay to wait for the next available table, to which they will likely reply yes. During the summer, they have outdoor seating, so they can seat more people.

Yelp
Super cool place with lovely decor. Staff is friendly and make great coffee. The cake was really good. Expect it to be crowded. Good for nice conversation. Not ideal for sitting and working.

Yelp
Really, really enjoyed this place!!! It is probably the closest thing to an "American" brunch that I've experience in Switzerland. The food was delicious, portions quite generous, atmosphere fantasitc...it was such a hidden gem. We sat at a shared table with a gentleman who was just finishing his morning coffee, and we had the table to ourselves soon after. The restaurant, although small, was cozy and intimate...in a good way. I think the idea is to recreate the "I'm getting food at nonna's" feel. There are communal newspapers and magazines that you can read while people come in and out for the coffee/dessert (homemade!)/food. We went for brunch, and I had an omelet, which came with a nice portion of fresh dressed greens and a couple slices of bread. The omelet was fluffy and filled with carmelized onions, cheese, and mushrooms. Reminded me of Sunday brunch with my friends back home. The service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend, and would definitely go back.

Yelp
Walking into Kafi Dihei is like visiting your kooky aunt's house. Somehow the mismatched tables and chairs, flowery wallpaper, ugly reupholstered couch and the little lamps work together to make the place feel like home. When you eventually find your way through the front door and past the hordes of patrons onto a table of your own, order the waffles. I've tasted a lot of waffles in Zurich and Kafi Dihei definitely serves the best. Your order comes with a little shot of syrup on the side, a mountain of cream and lots of berries....they are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. What more could you ask for? Well I would write paragraphs about their scones, homemade cakes, burgers, soups and ever-changing lunch menu but why spoil all the fun for you? But, it's not all fun and games. This little cafe is getting more and more popular with each day. So I would recommend booking a table if you are thinking of heading over for lunch or on a weekend for brunch. Pretty soon it'll be everyone's favourite little cafe and you'll struggle to get in

Yelp
Di Hei is a cosy place where you can get a fix of Swiss food and English-inspired meals and delicatessen. Liberty patterns, little birds singing in the bathroom as you push the door and very British chairs give this neighborhood cafe a nice Anglo-Saxon touch. The prices are fair for the quality of the food, though a friend thought it was not that much when he received the brunch he had ordered. It's definitely a place you want to swing by when touring Kreis3.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly staff, OK coffee, lovely decor, outside seating in one of the nicest Zurich neighbourhoods, customers are the Wiedikon mix of hipsters and young families. Can't bring myself to give 5 stars because on a Saturday morning it's just a bit too much, too much cutesy decor, too hectic and packed with too many people to have a relaxing brunch or morning coffee.
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
Such a fantastic breaky spot! Wait staff (owner) was amazingly polite and helped me to decide my next travel plans. Raspberry Bircher was delish, as was the coffee. Get on board!

Brenda R.

Yelp
We went here for the first time last Sunday for brunch with some friends, and they told us we had to arrive very early (before 09:30!) to be sure we'd get a table. They were right - it's not a large place, which gives it a cozy feeling. But it's the food that made getting up early worth it. Our coffee came very fast and was excellent. My vegi omelette was perfect, with lots of filling and the eggs cooked just right. We were told they don't take reservations, but other reviewers say they made one. I'll have to try again to be sure. However, there's outdoor seating for the summer, which should help the space shortage and let us sleep a bit later!

Yelp
Fantastic little cafe that makes you feel like you are in grannies front room. Awesome food and coffee.

Wassilios L.

Yelp
Breakfast as it should be, and until 16:00 hrs. Where have you been Kafi Dihei, Zurich was waiting for you a looooong time. Had the Zmorge dihei mit Kater... , good choice, bacon, eggs, wedges, bread, onion jam, maple sausage (did I forget something?)... THAT holds you over for the day. Just perfect ! Until I saw the cakes... too bad I did not have space for these anymore. Will be back for after noon tea then :-).

Yelp
Favorite brunch spot in town. The food is fresh and delicious. Watch out for the bees outside..they like the jelly as much as you will. The atmosphere is quaint and lovely for a Saturday or Sunday morning.

Yelp
Another great time at Kafi Dihei! Very different experience because I went for breakfast on a holiday so it was super busy as compared to last year.

Yelp
this place was amazing!! so cute and quaint, so homey. the food was beyond amazing. i had the hot chocolate and the pan fry. for an American, this meal was refreshingly familiar but also with a Euro vibe to it.

Yelp
Best brunch spot in Zurich. I recommend the omlettes. My friends have also suggested the lamb burger as a standard go-to. I have turned several people on to this place. As mentioned the place is very small. Also good coffee, great scones and real croissants (no gipfeli!!!). Apparently during the week you get get the scones French from oven. I have yet to do this but it's on my list.
