Kahale's Maui's Local Dive Bar

Came here on a Sunday with a pregnant wife & the desire for a cocktail before 11am, air conditioning, and some tvs. This place checked all the boxes — and Ian the server was a breath of fresh air, super positive and everything you would want a bartender to be. I got a Bloody Mary and it truly was one of the better drinks i had all trip. Thankful places like this still exist & are confidently themselves

Exactly what you want in a dive bar...great drinks, moderate prices & laid back atmosphere. Joey was our bartender & made the most delicious Mai Tai's! Thank you Joey!

Awesome bar, fantastic and kind bartenders, truly amazing live music. The Saturday Saints were AWESOME on 10/25/2025!! If they’re playing you KNOW it’ll be a great time. :)

True dive bar as advertised. Food trucks right down the street and perfectly ok to bring with you. Happy people, happy place and good musicians too!

Great dive bar with friendly customers.

A friend brought us here on one of our spontaneous bar hopping nights out. ATMOSPHERE: They're located at the north end of the "triangle" that is Kihei Kalama Village. It feels like you're on an enclosed house porch. The tiny, open air space is crammed with a few tables, bar, and a small stage. Smokers will find it friendly with 2 easy access doors out. BEVERAGE: Beer prices were cheaper than normal for domestic bottles. ENTERTAINMENT: A live band serenaded us. SERVICE: The female server was friendly and service was quick. OVERALL: Cool place to come for cheap beer, live music, and no cover charge.

decent drinks and service but overcharged us by 5 drinks and when we said it’s wrong they argued and refused to work with us. i know how many drinks we ordered. i’m not tripping over a few extra dollars but the flat out lies (or miscalculations) and making us pay for nearly $50 of drinks we didn’t order i will definitely not go back

Update: 10/28/23 Last Night's Halloween Costume Party was Amazing..With tons of fun people.And great Costumes The band, "Blue Souls"was Fantastic.. Kahale's is a Great little dive bar.. Friendly bartenders with Cold drinks.

Returned to Kahale's every time we had a chance when we were on Maui. (Like 10 times in 2 weeks) The bartenders and customers were amazing and we feel like we have friends we can look up next time we are able to get back to Maui! This place (and the people in it) are the reason we love dive bars!

Classic dive bar. Locals will make you laugh. Welcoming and no frills. Only downside is they are Cowboys fans so not all decisions they make are good ones.

Great local dive bar perfect if you want to catch a football game! Definitely a spot the locals watch football. Go cowboys! Dog friendly as well.

Great bartender, really good drinks. Just be aware that they don't serve food any more. The bartender did tell us that you can order food from any of the surrounding restaurants and eat it there.

This was a fun late night place to stop for a drink. There weren't many people which made it nice to sit and talk. They only had high top bar stools as far as we could see but they were pretty comfortable. The staff was super friendly towards us. The music was at a great level- not too loud. There is loads of parking in the lot right outside the bar. It is also in a place where there are several restaurants so you can go get dinner and then come here for drinks.

Pros: It is a dive bar. Good for football games and cheap beer specials...and staying under the radar. Smokers, Cowboys fans and bikers will love Kahale's. Plenty of parking. Cons: Service is "meh." I ordered one beer and was asked to cash out for bartender change. Ironically, the next bartender was absent when I needed another round. The first bartender was hanging around (presumably off shift) and gave me my second round. When I attempted to pay second bartender for second round with a tip, I was ignored. I threw my money on the bar and left. Overall: This is a Cheers bar. If you know people, you will get treated well. If nobody knows who you are, plan for a wait in service. It's a dive bar. Keep expectations low. Average place.

One of the last four bars in the Barmuda... it's been a wonderful trip with great people... Support Maui and shop local!

Great dive bar. The locals/regulars are welcoming, staff is friendly and the bathrooms are clean - everything I look for in a good dive. Visited twice on my trip, including Naughty Bingo night. Wish this was the bar at home, I'd be there weekly.

If you love a good dive bar. This place is it. Decent priced drinks and fun atmosphere. Also has live music which is always a good time.

We hired a photographer to take photos at the beach for our wedding anniversary and had wanted to have some casual photos at the food stands nearby afterwards. Since the food stands were closed at 5pm after the beach photoshoot, still looking for a food/drink establishment with some character we searched for "dive bars" in the Kihei area, and were lucky that Kahale's came up. I walked in wearing a seersucker suit and my wife in a frilly sun dress and big floppy hat, and needless to say we didn't blend right in, but the regulars there were VERY friendly and had a blast that we'd chosen their watering hole. Great conversation, lots of smiles, and terrific service from the bartender. What a great place, proudly holding itself out as a dive bar. Modestly priced cocktails, too. GO HERE.

Well, this is definitely a dive bar, so don't go in there expecting anything different. I went in on a weekend and got to meet some of the locals, enjoyed some cheap beer (in ice cold glasses by the way, wooo!) and saw a bar fight. Pretty fun evening!

Cool dive bar that we stopped in for a drink. We came kind of late, and the place was kind of empty, but everyone was friendly and we were served quickly. We looked at some golf video game that they had, and the bartender offered to turn it on for us, but we declined. Overall a chill spot to have a drink. Think that some of the other bars in the area were more lively on a Sunday night. Probably would check out one of those instead, but things could be different here on different nights.

What a dive bar should be! Locals mixing with a few savvy tourists for good drinks, friendly service, and an all around good time.

Is literally a local dive bar. Great, friendly locals. The coldest beer glasses I've ever seen. Small bar, great atmosphere. It was a nice change from the touristy bars in Kihei! Bartender was nice, and very quick with service. We're very excited to go back and have a cold drink again.

This bar is not a friendly unless your a Hawaiian. We left with two people who had bloodied legs from the bouncer throwing them to the ground for accidentally using the wrong door, which we totally misunderstood as he said don't leave the door open to someone else, so we thought you could exit as long as you left the door closed. Then one of the lady's tried to stop the bouncer from assaulting our group and she ended up with a black eye from the bouncers elbow. He then proceeded to tell our group to go back the main land. None of us are fighters, obnoxious drunks, just having a couple of drinks with friends in Maui trying to relax. Mind you, we have never ever experienced anything like this, we're all pretty mellow people. I don't recommend this bar to anyone as the atmosphere here is violent and the bouncer is looking for a fight. The bouncer also kept saying he had a broken hand, so not sure why he is assaulting customers with a broken hand and why he is so angry! The owner may hear from our attorney for assaulting 3 people.

Great vibe inside this place. It's cool and dark. The air conditioning was so nice coming in off a hot day. We didn't eat here but had a few beers. Lots of nice locals and decently priced beer. Can't beat it!!

This is one of your local dive bars. I've noticed that all the bars in this area are super small. But this one had way more people then the first one we attempted to go to. And it seemed like there was two rooms. But no where to sit or stand or dance or enjoy ourselves so we walked out.

Great place to hit up. Low key, friendly and they typically have live music going on. One night we stopped into the triangle and the music was more hard rock/metal, so we passed it up, but the night we decided to go in a blues group was there. It was a good time. People were dancing and having a great time. I ordered myself a Mai Thai and that was beautifully strong! Hats off to the server. If you're looking for low-key, no frills good time, head into this spot! They also have this really cool fryer that can cook up some good food on the fly. We ordered some wings and they were delicious. Neighbors ordered wings and fries and it looked just as good.

Everyone on the island was so cool but once you stepped into kahale's you really could feel the ohana. My husband and I stopped in for a few beers before we had to fly out. We got to meet and hang out with the owners!. It was so cool to hear everyone's stories around how they got to Maui and how the community pulled together through the pandemic. Other patrons included a local artist and a kayak guide who were both more than happy to show us artwork and amazing pictures of whales. Everyone knew everyone and I felt like I was in a Hawaiian Cheers. All in all a really cool place to spend some time!

Such a dive bar!! The owners introduced themselves to my best friend & our friends we met. They were great & truly made you feel welcomed. Such a great place to get drinks & meet new people. Please check it out!

Always so much fun. Everyone is so nice and our bartender during the day Nyssa makes an amazing bloodymary. Made friends with Kimo. He is so sweet and great tips for the island. The beers are ice cold, service is amazing and it is just a good time all around.

This is the best bar in Maui hands down. If you are an industry person or just a real down drinker you will feel right at home. Kahale's knows what they are doing and they do it well. Frozen glasses, sharp service, cold AC and a really diverse group of local patrons. Everyone is welcome, act right get treated right. Our Bartender Nyssa was great. 5 stars. Come for one, stay for 5, meet some great peeps. We try and stop in every day we are in Maui.

The BEST Dive bar I have drank at Today! Bartender was fun and friendly! And they open an hour before every other bar in the area which means I can start my drinking that much sooner! Good on ya

we were in town for a wedding and wanted to go out for a drink and went down to the triangle. we ended up at kahales with about 16 people and my man Dylan hooked us up! he was the man, kept getting us drink, kept the bar cleaned and had a great attitude. I know how hard it is to deal with a sudden huge rush like that, and he was all by himself and got it done. one of our best nights out. great juke box too.

If you want to hang with the locals, this is the spot. Very friendly staff and patrons. Music most nights and it is awesome. If you are looking for trendy, touristy, comfortable seating, head elsewhere. But if you want to chat and party with the locals this is it. Oh, and drafts are only $5

Had fun here one night. There was an obvious local crew here with regulars. The uber driver hadn't ever heard of it either. The regulars stuck to themselves, but were obviously having fun together. Well - who wouldn't have fun with their friends with a few drinks on board. There were TouchTune wars, but all in good fun. If you're looking for a dive on Maui, this may be an appropriate choice.

There's a reason why Kahale's is so crowded.. Excellent service, generous pours and 5 different and talented bands scheduled on a single day. Met the owner and she's as nice and generous as the pours. Mostly locals... but if you're a tourist just pretend you live here like a Kamaāina (pronounced ka-ma-EYE-na). 20+ years in business says something about a place with so much competition. You'll see what I mean when you come here.

Bartender was super sweet. We sat down and immediately felt welcomed. Definitely a local spot as there were only locals there besides us. We were offered popcorn as a snack which was really nice. Drinks were good and cheap. Locals & bartender were cool to talk to. We went here twice today. Definitely a good place to check out if you're in the area and looking for a good inexpensive drink.

Now this place was super super fun. The biker crowd was a little obnoxious and one of them was really trying to "hook me" up with his 20 year old nephew, when i kindly refused, there was a little tension. I had a bad experience at Ambrosia later that night don't know if any of it was related. But after days of turning in early it was fun to be out and about late. I liked the crowd here and the music.

Went here last night with a group of friends. Good live music. A friend was trying to meet us there. The doorman asked him for his ID and he didn't have it. He left and came back with his ID. The doorman told him he was too drunk to come in. My friend tried to introduce himself, the doorman jumped off his stool and took a boxing stance, jumped around a little and then lunged at my friend and punched him three times in the face, knocking him out. Our group was siting near the door and I watched the whole thing happen. My friend was intoxicated but was not aggressive and did not deserve to be assaulted. We were worried he may have a concussion.

Cheap dranks, fun atmosphere, dope bartender...what more could you ask for. Stopped by after a day at the beach and hydrated with a Mai tai & pineapple PRSA; generous with liquor pour. Fun place!

Two ways to understand what is a local dive bar: Write a few thousand words, or come here. Hidden in the back corner of this active nightlife area, the music draws you in. Friday night had a great guitarist, playing his own Maui-adaptations of some famous songs with great guitar skills and a fine smooth voice. We and one other couple looked like we didn't belong. The rest were clearly regulars, with hugs around when new ones arrived. The place is small, old, messy, and a room you'd probably not want to see in daylight. But the beer was cold, service was excellent, and everyone was relaxed. A highlight was the lady who talked to the guitar player, kicked off her shoes, and then danced a beautiful flowing hula in front of her boyfriend standing at the bar. I don't know if this was suppose to be the Hawaiian version of a lap dance, but it was great - warm, sincere, well-done, and sexy, by a woman who was definitely not a professional dancer, but did know her hula. She got plenty of applause. The lowlight was the most uncomfortable stools on which I have ever sat. I even tried setting, but it didn't help.

It's so nice to go somewhere in Maui and not hear the words "aloha" or "mahalo." The awesome live music and cheap, ice cold beer are also reasons to return if I am fortunate enough to have an opportunity to go back to Maui. I do wish there were some local beers on tap, but at $3 each, I really can't complain.

This place needs a more emotionally stable bouncer. Mr. man bun was already in a mood when I showed up. I was holding an empty can in front of the venue, looking for a recycling/trash bin for the two men that just handed me it, but could not find one in the vicinity. The ones they have outback are all chained up. When I returned to the front the bouncer made a rude comment about my hearing and decided not let me into the venue! No ID check! I have always been a responsible person and have never had any trouble getting into music venues, clubs, or bars. I felt very victimized by the two men that were just able to enter unscathed, as they did little to try and help my situation after they made their problem my own. I always like to support live music, but with external issues like this you can count me out.

Best place around! My favorite is Kris, she always knows what I want, it's nice and cool in there, friendly customers and Katy and Sumner are awesome., fun environment must stop here while on Maui !!!

DIVE DIVE DIVE! Wow, my first experience coming into this place was like walking into a "biker" bar in another state! As soon as I walked through the door you get that "stare" like "boy, you don't belong here!" It really wasn't like that though, although some people could feel intimated. I just bellied up to the bar and order some beers. No local beers! OMG! I guess this is the most un-Maui/Hawaiian bar you could go to. You know, I suppose some of the locals want that feeling of getting away from Hawaii! All in all, I don't think this is much of a tourist spot. It seemed more of a local bar. The band was some hard rock band screaming into a mic! Not the best band and didn't want to wait around long enough to see if it would get better. My friends and I just chugged our beers and left!

Drums were obnoxiously loud. Bartender was not very friendly to people who obviously weren't regulars. Didn't stay long. Not up to the "famous" reputation.

The owner Katie is one of the hardest working people I've ever seen...she owns the place but is waitressing and making sure everyone is having a great time. Great music, great prices and a super cool place to hangout in this cove of bars

While we were visiting Maui, we decided to check out the nightlife. We just happened to stop by here on a Sunday night. It was a holiday weekend, so no work the next day. Its a small place...decent stage. There was a guy playing a guitar when we got there...taking requests. One of the people in the crowd requested Neil Diamond and he didn't skip a beat! He went right into "Sweet Caroline" and had all of us singing along! The staff was very friendly and attentive. It's a great place to stop by and have a few drinks.

This place was pretty cool. We stumbled upon it randomly and found some guest who are attending the wedding at the bar. It was serendipity. What was really cool was there was a live funk band playing funk and r&b music...in Maui! As an outsider it looked like a biker bar (bikers in Maui? who knew?). The cabbie that picked us up looked at us and was surprised us youngsters were at the "old folks bar" as he said it to us. We had a good time. I love dive bars!

Great dive bar to go for good priced drinks and live music most evenings. This is considered the "biker bar" but it is very friendly to everyone. Sometimes the music is too loud, but you just have to sit in the back. They have a dance floor for when you are feeling good and want to show off your moves. In general, this is an older crowd that attends, but not grandpa and grandma status. Maybe 40's is the average.
