Kahanda Kanda

"Nine freestanding pavilions blend into the lush jungle at this former private home set on a 12-acre working tea estate five miles inland from Galle Fort. The five secluded guest suites, all with spectacular verdant views (watch for monkeys in the morning), have an airy interior of polished concrete floors, pillow-strewn rattan couches, four-poster beds with mosquito netting, and daybeds built into the windowsill. Simple, sophisticated lunches leave room for gourmet suppers that range from tomato and basil galettes to Thai-inspired chicken seasoned with kaffir limes and lemongrass and baked in a banana leaf. The hilltop pool’s infinity edge drops off to palm-fringed Koggala Lake down below, and the staff are bend-over-backward accommodating, even climbing a tree to pick a coconut if a guest asks for the juice."

We spent 6 nights here and what an absolutely stunning place. The location, the rooms , the staff. Everything is perfect, we stayed in habiscus villa with a private pool and can honestly say we just didn’t want to do anything all day but sit by the pool watching the stunning bird life and relaxing. The staff are superb . Amith makes the best espresso martinis and the young waiter Rashen is amazing. Nothing too much trouble. Would love to come back one day.|Thank you to everyone

An amazing hideaway for couples! Children under 12 aren't permitted, which is understandable given the open layout and safety considerations. That actually worked out perfectly for us—we left our little one behind and enjoyed a much-needed romantic getaway. We stayed in KADJU, and absolutely loved it. It’s a quiet, peaceful space where you can really see the attention to detail in the interiors. We were told the owner is an interior designer, and it truly shows—everything felt both homely and stylish. The food was incredible, especially the desserts—we loved them so much we ended up ordering two each in one night! That alone should tell you how good it was. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

Perfect spot to relax and feel connected to the environment. We stayed at the Kadju suite which was very relaxing and the staff were friendly and attentive. Lots of peacocks around in the property and the manager gave us a property tour too. Will be back for sure to experience other suites. not to forget the food was really good too.

We had an amazing holiday experience at Kahanda Kanda, The staff members were very kind & treated us like we were their family members, A very special thank you to staff members Aruna and Chanaka who made our stay pleasurable. The owner Mr Cooper was kind enough to personally visit us to check if we were doing fine, The Mutton curry is a must try at Kahanda Kanda it was packed with flavour, overall everything we tried was of very high standard, The rooms were nice n cozy our room had a lovely plunge pool , The staff had even covered my vehicle to protect it from blazing sunshine which was really a kind gesture. We will definitely return

This is an amazing hotel. We stayed in Kumbuk suite for 2 nights. The villa is beautifully designed with a wonderful garden and small pool with stunning views. The dining area and other common parts are also very attractive. Staff are friendly and very willing. We also spent a day at the KK Beach with a lovely pool and amazing non swimming beach. We had a few tiny issues, limited breakfast choices, overpriced medium quality seafood barbecue at KK Beach and a couple of staff training issues (sent to wrong villa initially and mistakenly overcharged which was sorted but without apology). But, to be clear, this would not stop us coming back or enthusiastically recommending the KK. The owner is both charming and a talented hotelier.

From the moment we arrived at Kahanda Kanda Hotel, our experience felt like stepping into a tropical paradise. The scenic drive from the gate to the reception is a beautiful prelude to what this enchanting property has to offer. Every aspect of our stay was nothing short of magical. We celebrated our 23rd anniversary in the DUBU honeymoon villa, and it exceeded every expectation we had. Our days were blissfully spent lounging in our private pool, enjoying leisurely meals served poolside, and reading in the soothing shade. While we ventured out to explore the local beaches and diving spots, our favorite moments were simply spent soaking in the serene beauty of Kahanda Kanda itself. “Magical moments” is the perfect description of our time here, and we are immensely grateful to the incredible staff who went above and beyond to make our stay truly unforgettable. Thank you, Kahanda Kanda, for a dream-like anniversary getaway!

We absolutely loved our stay at Kahanda Kanda. We stayed in Kumbuk villa, and it was stunning - incredibly spacious, so comfortable and everything so thoughtfully designed (eg two sets of loungers to catch the morning and afternoon sun). I honestly think that sitting on its terrace, looking in to its private garden, early on a sunny morning with the sound of wildlife in your ears is actually paradise.||All of the staff were great - super friendly as well as fantastic at their jobs… the pool attendant who called every morning to clean our pool and bring fresh towels, the guys who cleaned our room, the restaurant staff, the team in the bar (great cocktails Amith, thank you!), everyone basically!||I would say don’t bother paying for the full board upgrade - not because the food isn’t delicious (it is, and so fresh tasting) but because everything on the menu is good value. While we ate every meal at the hotel, we think we would probably have spent less by just paying for what we ate. A lesson for when we go back, and we will definitely be going back.
