Kahului Airport is honestly one of my favorite airports to travel through. It strikes the perfect balance, not too small that it feels limited, but not too big that it becomes overwhelming or confusing. Everything is super easy to navigate, whether you’re arriving or departing.
One big tip: give yourself a little extra time when flying out, especially if you’re checking bags. You’ll need to go through an agriculture screening process before you can even check your luggage (and yes, do that part first!). It’s not a big deal, but if you’re not expecting it, it can slow you down a bit.
Once you’re through security, there are actually some solid food options, especially for an airport of this size. And if you forgot souvenirs or last-minute gifts, don’t worry, there are plenty of shops to grab something local before you leave.
All in all, Kahului Airport makes traveling to and from Maui really easy and low-stress. The staff has always been friendly, and the whole experience just feels more laid-back than most airports, which fits the vibe of the island perfectly.
Highly recommend flying through here if you’re visiting Maui and don’t forget to enjoy that fresh air right when you step outside.
