11 Best Coffee Shops in Vancouver | Condé Nast Traveler

"Located between Granville Island and Kits Beach in an enclave of high-end design shops and luxury car dealerships, Kahve has quality coffee, tasty eats, and warm staff that keep people coming back. Phil & Sebastian, one of Canada’s most famous coffee roasters, provides Kahve with its single-origin beans. The company deals directly with farmers—even going so far as to put the growers’ names and stories right on the packaging. The quality is high; the flavors, unique and varied. And if you'd rather sip tea, Kahve also whips up great London fogs, as well as chai and matcha lattes." - Jennifer Van Evra

Google
Cute coffee shop with lots of sitting. Sittings also available outside. There is a park across the street with benches so can always go sit there. Had a Caprese Avocado sandwich and bought some cards! The sandwich was small but was the perfect size for me for a late lunch. Was very impressed with the card selection all completed by a local artist! Interesting concept of a coffee shop because they also sold cards and jewellery and other little knickknacks. Did not try the coffee so I cannot comment about that. Will come back. It's a good location next to the Burrard bridge.

Owner was so friendly, the food and coffee was delicious. The pulled pork benedict had a great Korean flavour that made it very unique.

Google
Cute place. Coffee (espresso) is typical Vancouver bitter. There’s cute things to buy. Unusual for coffee shop. The sandwiches and pastries are wrapped in plastic so hard to say if fresh or old.

Kim Lishman

Google
A small but bright coffee shop with breakfast, lunch and treat options. The atmosphere in here is quite calm, perhaps as most of the tables just seat 2/3 people so it wouldn't attract large groups. It's the perfect spot to come solo or catch up with a friend. I was a big fan of the iced matcha latte and the cinnamon bun (warmed!).

Hassan Elnahas

Google
This place is nice and the avocado smoked salmon toast (came recommended) was fantastic. But I found the coffee too bitter for my taste. The staff were far friendlier to each other and to regulars than to me (someone walking in for first time). But that salmon toast is a huge 5 stars. Portion not big but makes you appreciate every bite even more.

Google
Typically friendly and very enthusiastic staff at KAHVE. Low key environment for a chill study session, working remotely, or just hang out. I will definitely be back again.

Truly the best coffee taste in Vancouver I’ve found so far. They also have great healthy salads and the owner are very friendly! Highly recommend

Small, cozy and pretty cafe. Vanilla ice latte so delicious! Additionally this is cafe’s name creative…

Yelp
great breakfast place This is a bright open and modern space with very healthy food options ideally situated in the Burrard Kitsilano area. this is a bright open and modern space with very healthy food options ideally situated in the area. It has a good selection of hot and cold drinks and healthy fresh sandwiches I had the Cobb salad along with a It was a great start to the day.

Yelp
Perfect little cafe to hide and warm up in during a rainy day. The staff is always friendly and the food is fresh and flavourful. I wish the hours were longer, but its common among smaller shops. Highly recommend :)

Yelp
Love love this small cafe. Service was quick and efficient. Prices are great and the food was amazing. Fresh sandwiches and light work lunch. Must try!

Yelp
This was a relaxing place to visit: clean (both in terms of hygiene and aesthetic), quiet but not dead, friendly baristas. The window seats give you a nice view of the park across the street. I ordered the smoked salmon on toast, a blueberry cupcake, and a shaken espresso with almond milk (the menu only lists oat milk, but they made it with almond milk when I asked). All of the food was really high quality: the salmon was fresh and the egg was perfectly medium-poached, the blueberry cupcake was full of juicy blueberries and the frosting wasn't too sweet, and the shaken espresso was one of the best iced espresso drinks I've ever had with a thick foam and a touch of cinnamon to make the natural sweetness pop. The one thing is that the salmon toast was tiny for the price - I'm not usually one to complain about small portions, but for what I paid, I expected something more substantial than a single piece of sandwich bread with two slices of smoked salmon. The cupcake and the drink were more reasonably priced (not exactly "affordable", but basically in line with general food inflation).

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick coffee. The coffee shop is right by Burrard and 1st Ave. It's quite bright with natural light and can get quite warm inside. The latte wasn't bad. Good ambiance inside.

Yelp
Fantastic place to have a sandwich and a great cup of coffee! The owner is an experienced chef and every sandwich is a piece of art! Excellent service and relaxing atmosphere. Must visit place in Kitsilano

Yelp
A cute little cafe with great ambience and decent room for seating. The drinks were also quite delicious. A great place to catch up with friends for a nice chat!

Yelp
Amazing coffee, and a warm cozy interior! Using coffee beans from a variety of microroasters like Timbertrain and Monogram, each cup of coffee has a unique balance of various tasting notes and no cup is the same. The flat white was a bit too milky for my liking, but nonetheless, a quality cup of joe. The Shortbread Cookie had amazing flavors, but it wasn't executed as well as I hoped. It wasn't crumbly at all, and was a bit too buttery for my taste. The cookie also didn't absorb the coffee well when I dipped it in. The staff was nice, though I felt rushed and judged for my order despite how busy it was.

Yelp
Came here after donating blood. I have always gone by this place but hadn't actually gone in. This time, i walked in. This place has other items for sale other than coffee and food. They have some espresso gadgets, jewelry and secure-wallet. There are several small tables, that will fit 2 people and their food/drinks. There is also a small counter along the window so you can people watch. The atmosphere is very pleasant and welcoming. It is very clean and modern looking. I had the proscuitto brie pear sandwich. It was good but the proscuitto overpowered the brie and pear, so for me, it was a bit salty. It could be that I don't usually eat a lot of salt or put too much salt in my foods in that I notice it more. My brothers like salt so what is salty to me, they don't think there is enough salt. Maybe next time I'll have the avocado on toast, as I've had that at other places. The latte was really good, It was smooth and not bitter, and was delicious. I've gone to many coffee places and this latte was probably the smoothest I've had. It is as good as Storybrooke in Seattle. I probably wouldn't bring a laptop to work as there are only 2 outlets by the window counter so if you plan to do some work, ensure your laptop is fully charged.

Yelp
Cute and modern cafe with tons of interesting decorations/nik naks, which are all for sale! I saw a really cool cat feeder, wine bottle openers, jewelry... all kinds of unique (and expensive) stuff! Service was externality polite and I like that they offer you a glass of sparkling water when you stay in. Prices are steep, but not shocking for the area. I was super hoping the food portions would be a bit bigger they are :( I took the recommendation by the nice gal at the counter and tried their Caprese sandwich, just a 1/2. All though quite tasty I am still trying to figure out how that cost me $5. They do grill it for you so it's all warm and ooey gooey melty! Very flavorful, very small lol. I also ordered an espresso which ran $3.10 for a single. My usual is a double, so with the 1/2 Sammy my bill was $10.

Yelp
Disappointed! They poured hot americano into a glass cup with no handle. How am I supposed to handle it? Without burning my fingers?? I asked them to pour it into a cup with a handle. They looked at me like I'm crazy. So they did. The coffee was bad anyway, very sour. Also bought match cookie, was terrible I couldn't it it. No idea why people love it.

Yelp
Stumbled into Kahve because I needed a place to warm up before my lash appointment, I ordered a hot chocolate and decided to use the bathroom. Kahve has the CLEANEST bathroom I've ever been in, whether it be a coffee shop or restaurant, hands down you can tell this coffee shop is taken care with love. They have a small variety in terms of sweets and savoury foods but if you are hungry i dont reccomend coming here for a bite HOWEVER they have nailed their drinks down pat! Can't wait to visit Kahve again for some different drinks, their baristars are the KINDEST ALL AROUND! Cheers to Kahve!

Natalie A.

Yelp
Highly unprofessional and rude staff. Not a welcoming atmosphere whatsoever. Kicked me out because of a time limit- which has never happened to me before at a cafe. Starbucks has way better coffee anyway. Their avocado toast was pretty good though.

Yeonsu S.

Yelp
I'm pretty sure to recommend this place. It's cozy, clean n friendly!! If I have a chance to be around there, I will visit again here.

Yelp
You should definitely pay a visit to this coffee shop if you are looking for great service, delicious coffee and not your casual breakfast. The shop itself is a design treat with a blend of Scandinavian and Italian design influence. Coffee is perfect (having moved to Vancouver from Italy a few years ago you can trust a picky Italian coffee lover), the avocado toast with a poached egg a fantastic treat. Not a big portion, but not too small. Just enough to fill you, energize you and leave you feeling good. Be ready to pay the price for such an amazing experience though: an Americano and the toast came for around $13. Not an every day treat for me, but definitely worth all the money. And if you're looking for a special gift, they got you covered with lots of design options.

Yelp
Meh. It's ok. Avocado toast with salmon was good, fresh and tasty but expensive. Cold brew was good. Nothing to write home about. We came over here for breakfast and it was really a coffee shop with a few small tables. For the small amount of food it was expensive and not really worth the hype.

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 Amenities: 3/5 Price: $$ At the cafe, I was looking for a bite to eat as I didn't have lunch yet while my husband was looking for his usual dose of caffeine to get him through his day. We both quickly fell in love with the cafe even before trying their food & drink because of its chic and clean atmosphere. I found it interesting that the cafe had lots of espresso/coffee tools for sale and I had fun looking through them while waiting for our order. Overall, the cafe has a warm vibe and hubby and I both knew that this place would become one of our favourites as long as our coffee and food were satisfactory! Their full menu can be found on their website. They also have a separate weekend brunch! Though Kahve Cafe has locations in New York City, I don't think Vancouver's cafe is a franchise or related to NYC's cafe brand, as both have very distinct and different websites. Kahve brews caffeine from two sources: Elysian Coffee Roasters from our own city, Vancouver and Phil & Sebastian Coffee from our neighbouring city, Calgary. We haven't tried Elysian Coffee yet, but we must now that hubby and I have tried it at Kahve! Because I don't drink lots of caffeine during my pregnancy, I opted to try one of their teas. I asked if they brewed their teas iced, and to my delight, they were all available iced! Originally, I was going to have an iced peppermint tea, but they showed me that they had two iced teas already cold steeped and ready to drink: Grapefruit tea and Peach green tea. After hearing about this, I changed my mind and decided to try their iced grapefruit tea instead. What I liked about their iced teas were the fact that they were all unsweetened. I hate it when it's sweetened without telling me! Because grapefruit tea was already fruity, no extra sweetness or sugar was needed at all. It was really refreshing and delicious. My sandwich was warmed up, grilled, and plated beautifully for me. I was also happy that it was brought over to me to where I was sitting, rather than calling out that my sandwich was ready. The sandwich was really fresh and also quite delicious. It did a great job of filling me up and it made me want to come back for their weekend brunch! Though I don't have a picture of hubby's coffee, well, it was only a regular Americano in a mug... Anyway, hubby was pretty content that it wasn't too acidic to his taste. As both of us were satisfied, we would definitely recommend the cafe to anyone who loves cafe hopping or coffee in general. It's a perfect place to enjoy an afternoon over a cup of coffee, whether that be by yourself, with a friend... Kahve is across from a small park so you have great visuals as well. I'm not sure if the cafe has washrooms - I didn't ask, but I reckon they have one though it didn't really look like it. And though it has free wifi (via Telus), it's not the best place to work - no outlets really anywhere! Make sure your laptop is fully charged!

Yelp
I was intrigued by this place because it was simple and nice. We went in and ordered two drinks. I was gonna get a pastry but a couple of little fruit flies were everywhere so I didn't. I was very happy they did coffee art on my London fog. It's not often I get to see coffee art. It also tasted very good with enough sweetness that I didn't have to add extra. It was creamy and at the perfect temperature to drink. No complaints for me. My friend, on the other hand, ordered the chai and was completely disappointed. It didn't taste good at all. It didn't even taste like chai and I have had chai at many, many places including ones made by my other friend from her home (meaning it's as authentic as it gets). This was not what chai tasted like and we both agreed that it was terrible. She threw her drink away which is wasteful but neither of us wanted to finish it. Too bad because mine was good and London fog is usually a hit or miss for me. If only the other drink turned out well, too.

Yelp
Beautiful beautiful coffee shop. Bright, quiet and clean. Across the street through the huge window, there's a park view. Sitting there let your mind rest a little, I got reminded how wonderful life is. Cappuccino was REALLY good and satisfying. I think they used organic whole milk.

Yelp
After making the drive up from Seattle this place hit the SPOT! I ordered the avocado toast, breakfast & drip coffee. Both reasonably priced, especially when you consider the conversion to USD (which they were willing to make for us, AND break a $100 bill, which was sweet). The coffee was amazing! Also large. And I drink a lot of coffee. My friend ordered a hot chocolate and a breakfast sandwich with Canadian Bacon, both which she enjoyed. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. They answered our questions about the area, helped convert our money, and brought our food out quickly! Free WIFI with speedy connection. Bright and happy decor, great vibe.

Yelp
Food and drinks good but awful and indifferent service. Why am I spending my hard earned money for attitude in the morning. Never again.

Yelp
Cafe with a super cute vibe! I've been wanting to visit this place for a while, but it has always been one of those 'out of my way' cafes for me. I normally get coffee but it was 22 degrees outside and I was craving for some ice matcha. I got the iced matcha latte, which was approximately $4.50. This place has unique matcha latte in that they do not use any sweetener. Normally, I always have to tell the staff to put only a bit of sweetener in it as I am not someone who craves sweet drinks. I was a bit disappointed by the size as knowing it was one size, I was expecting something bigger but half of my drink was filled with ice cubes and only the other half was with matcha latte. Matcha wasn't too strong either. A bit on the expensive I'd say, but that is normally the case with all cafes Regardless, the cafe has such a cute vibe that I would definitely come back - you can study here (free wifi of course), or come for a quick chat with friends! Would recommend!

Yelp
Came here with my bf one day. Very cute and modern cafe. We both tried one of their specialty coffees which mines had notes of caramel and nuts while my bf had one that had hints of berries in it. They were both quite pleasant but I liked mines more. I was a little disappointed because I thought they had more desserts to choose from their display case but there wasn't. Luckily, they had one coffee cake left which we shared. It was a good deal because it was quite big and it was only $3.50! The coffee cake was very nice. It was light and moist. It wasn't too sweet either. I did, however, wished it had more coffee flavor in it. After my bf finished his coffee, he ordered their famous kombucha as iced. It was soo good. It was so refreshing and light. Overall, their drinks were good and so was their location but a little bit more sweets would make it extra awesome.
google avatar

Yutaka T.

Yelp
A solid 4. They have a lot of things going for them: good beans (Elysian), cheap parking, a nice bright open space, and friendly staff. They have couple outlets near the window seats. It's a perfect spot to get stuff done (i.e. yelp reviews). No free wi-fi as far as I can tell (unless you have a shawopen account).
google avatar

Chaoyang L.

Yelp
modern, pretty cafe with plenty of natural lighting in a pleasant location. the tea is served in a cute pot. they dont have many blends to choose from, though. i also ordered their matcha and espresso shortbread cookies, which were nice and buttery but were gone in less than 2 seconds. tables are tiny and the seating arrangement is cramped... they have interesting things for sale throughout the store. (teaware, jewelry...)

Yelp
Over priced, badly managed, very slow service . I honestly don't know how they do business

Yelp
I love Kahve :) Vancouver . Best place for coffee and brunch in town, elegant, modern, charming and cozy inside setting. Very friendly owners and staff, always welcoming and with a smile to light up your stay. Coffee to warm up your day and taste :) and food too, yummy food plus healthy options :), try their avocado on toast, granola bar, quinoa salad, did I mention the soups? Bring a friend or enjoy alone, you will love it. Exquisite!!

Katrina W.

Yelp
First time visiting, ordered a coffee (no dark roast, medium only available) - tastes gross. I've had 'better' coffee on an airline or from an old vending machine.

Yelp
I've put off writing this for far too long, but Kahve has the best almond milk latte/cappucino in the city. The coffee is incredible and made with love, as is the food- get the avocado toast with prosciutto! But honestly the customer service is what gets me: when I let the owner know that I loved the coffee, but it would be awesome if they had homemade almond milk, she took my recommendation seriously. The next week I got a text asking to come taste test the new almond milk she'd made and it was incredible! Nice and thick, frothed nicely without getting burned: a perfect compliment to the rich flavor of the coffee. Now, I drink an almond milk cappuccino from Kahve every single day. If you're a nut-milk lover/lactose-intolerant, this should be your favorite spot in the city!

Be F.

Yelp
This place is like that really gorgeous/sexy person everyone is drawn to at a party who starts to talk and a great wave of disappointment ripples through the place. The cafe looks great, but the croissant sandwich was super sad, staff was unwelcoming, and they forced disposable soups and cutlery on me even though I asked twice for real stuff, which I spotted sitting right on the coffee machine after giving up - so annoying! I get it, if it's a COVID requirement or something, but then they should inform people of that. Plus they make it clear you can't 'loiter", which makes the space so uncomfortable that there's no one in here but staff. I guess that's how they want it. I certainly won't be back anytime soon.

Jud S.

Yelp
Great new cafe with Phil & Sebastian beans. One inside wall of the cafe is filled with trendy gifts like an Alessi kettle or an Alvar Alto vase. Nice and clean with lots of room and seating outside for when it's warms. I find myself returning here regularly, not just because of the convenience and great coffee, but the friendly, warm, and welcoming staff. Makes the coffee taste that much better!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing vibe with a great range of food and baked options! Try the house made almond milk, it's worth the extra $100 (lol) they charge, and the avocado toast is to die for!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing baked goods! Really cool hybrid shop coffee and designer objects. Modern space with wood accents and really friendly staff.

Yelp
Still amazing months later. Love their bread on the sandwiches and they now have cold brew coffee on tap. Great for the warmer weather. See my review below.

Yelp
Awesome London fog. Unlike any other London fog I've ever tasted. Decor is beautiful. Lots of natural light. Could easily spend a whole afternoon here.

Shila B.

Yelp
I saw this charming place in passing this week and came back a few days later. Really nice clean sleek interior. enough eats. I came in here for a latte and just to work on my zine a bit. Good customer service. Prices are fair market value with all the other coffee shops in the area.
google avatar

Meeyeon P.

Yelp
While the cafe is charming and a great place to have a cup of coffee on a rainy (yes, i realize this is vanouver) day, I was very disappointed in the food and offended by the price. This was specific to the smoked salmon toast. The spread was too heavy and it overwhelmed the richness the avocado and flavor of the smoked salmon. At $15 I was very displeased at my dish; one tiny piece of toast drenched in spread. The tomato soup was delicious.
google avatar

Jaime L.

Yelp
The avocado toast was good, but the toast was cold when I received it. The group I was with loved all their drinks. Very pleasant place.
google avatar

Yasi A.

Yelp
Best London fog and avocado toast I've had. To add to that, their service was fantastic. However, it's a little pricey but definitely worth it.
google avatar

Zoe W.

Yelp
Very minimalist, clean and cute cafe. I had a latte which is impressing. There was a right amount of smooth foam. The taste of milk and espresso was well balanced.
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Beautiful little coffee shop with house made almond milk and local artist household items.
google avatar

Veronica Z.

Yelp
Beautiful ambience. Beyond 2 sandwiches not much to offer in terms of food. Lots of design paraphernalia for your liquids (tea, wine, coffee). Coffee is tasty but not as warm as it should.
google avatar

Niuniu Z.

Yelp
Great coffee, average avo toast. Friendly service & ok ambience. Worth checking out, but more of a local spot.
google avatar

N Y.

Yelp
Just dropped by after an appointment nearby. Thought it looked a little to posh for me, -well-dressed, beautiful patrons and staff, but that wouldn't stop me from trying their wares. Great Americano. And the mini savoury scone was warmed up and served with such kind service. The space is very clean and beautifully designed. There are baked good and sandwiches, -but non that are vegetarian today. They sell beans, too, as well as some coffee and tea accessories... and designer stationary from Alessi and Georg Jensen, -a bit of a departure from coffee/tea. The sound design is not bad; I don't feel anxious like at other shops. I wish I lived closer; this would be my go-to coffee shop.
google avatar

Danielle B.

Yelp
Easy ride here from HI Downtown. Located opposite a beautiful park. Actually the best latte I had during my stay in Vancouver. We had the avocado on toast. It looks small but it is beautifully presented and the ingredients were so fresh. It was more than enough. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Awesome vibe. Will return next time we are in Vancouver.
google avatar

Becky L.

Yelp
Airy quiet calm clean and modern bests describes this space. And very nice attentive service. Had the decaf iced mocha and it was perfect. This would be a nice place to spend some quality time alone or with a special someone as it is subdued. No loud music to detract from just being in the present, enjoying a well made beverage and soaking in the natural light...sigh (and the avo toast with poached egg looked divine!)....see you next time Kahve

J L.

Yelp
Great food. Excellent coffee. Solid customer service. I sort of hate the decor, it feels like somebody set up a cafe in the middle of a store that I would never walk in. I don't enjoy being surrounded by things for sale when I'm eating or having a coffee.

Joe C.

Yelp
This has to be the loveliest cafe in Vancouver. It is very European in that it is both a cafe and a design store. The coffee is wonderful as are the teas and pastries. I did not have a chance to try any other food items but we will definitely go back. It was very elegant but also friendly and relaxed.
