"Over on Oahu — Hawaii’s most populous island and home to the capital, Honolulu — Kaimana Beach Hotel (No. 3) impressed with “maybe one of the best locations, with the beach right outside, and a gorgeous view of the ocean and the splendid sunsets.” Another reader mentioned the service, noting that “everyone was so lovely and helpful.”" - Travel + Leisure Editors

"If you’re traveling to Oahu, chances are good that you’ll stay in Waikiki, the busy slice of land between canal and sea where most of the lodging is clustered. Hotel towers shape the skyline, spring breakers zip down Kalākaua Avenue on electric scooters, and beachfront bars sling $15 mai tais. In the heart of the neighborhood lie the island’s historic luxury hotels, including the Moana Surfrider and Royal Hawaiian. But Waikiki is lesser known for a different kind of stay, a more intimate one that is on the edge of the action looking in, rather than smack in the center of it. Enter the new Kaimana Beach Hotel, formerly the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel since 1963, and before that the Victorian beachfront home of the McIrney family. After a recent change in ownership, the 122-room hotel has undergone a transformation unveiling a brand new look in February 2021. Hospitality company Private Label Collection—also behind Readers' Choice Award winner Hotel Wailea on Maui—has ushered in another new era for Kaimana. The bright, sunny lobby is, in a word, joyful. Pastel pinks, canary yellows, soft oranges, and warm turquoises pop throughout the space. There's vibrant, beautifully mismatched art, presented in a gallery style that fills entire walls with splashes of color. A mix of upcycled and new furniture invites guests to take a seat. It could be the living room of your most fun and fashionable friend’s beach house. The reception area fades into the bar and restaurant, which spills from the indoors out onto the beach and buzzes with locals lunching. The cheerful effect is no accident—Henderson Design Group has responded to a universal desire: happy is the new cool. The general manager, Ha’aheo Zablan, is at the center of it all. His family has been here for generations and his great grandmother was one of Waikiki’s original lei sellers. Guests can communicate with the concierges via the app Ivy, where the hotel team can book reservations, supply beach chairs or surf board rentals, recommend activities, and more. This use of tech is a smart way for staff to stay in touch with guests, particularly while physical distance is at a premium. Most of the rooms look out through floor-to-ceiling windows on the iconic fin-shaped Diamond Head crater or over the ocean. The room vibe is a continuation of the lobby’s fresh, colorful aesthetic. The top floor suites, with their long wraparound balconies, are worth the spend; the Pacific Suite is the largest at 838 square feet. Guests can indicate whether or not they want their room cleaned with a tag on their door. After a day in the sea and sun, it’s tempting to call it a night and relax in your room. But it would be a shame to miss out on food and drinks at Hau Tree. The new concept comes from James Beard nominee chef Chris Kajioka (of Honolulu’s hot new restaurant Miro Kaimuki) in collaboration with Alan Takasaki (of Le Bistro). To drink, you can’t go wrong with the 1944 Mai Tai made with Appleton and Kuleana rum. And dinner should be kicked off with the scallops: the beautifully plated dish is served with butternut squash puree and topped with paper-thin prosciutto, crispy kale, and toasted sunflower seeds. For mains, the ginger scallion steamed mahi and the wagyu flank steak are equally good. And the coconut cake is a must. Actual Hau trees form a lush canopy of heart-shaped leaves that shade the restaurant’s outdoor area. They’ve been there long before the original hotel building was erected; rumor has it that the author Robert Louis Stevenson sat and wrote beneath these very trees more than a century ago. A visit to Hawaii is really all about the activities. Kaimana gets this. They’ve partnered with Kai Sallas, a local surf legend and the 2018 longboard world champion. His Pro Surf School is located within the hotel. Born and raised in Waikiki, Sallas has identified the area’s ideal beginner break—and it’s right off Kaimana beach.  The concierge can also book a sunset sail around Waikiki or set guests up on the hotel’s bikes for a spin around Diamond Head. Other upcoming activities include outdoor yoga in Kapi'olani Park and lei- and coconut hat-making classes. Kaimana Beach Hotel marries the old and the new. The historic, sprawling Kapi'olani Park, laden with ancient, twisted Iron Trees and enormous Indian Banyan trees lies behind the property; 200,000 year-old Diamond Head looms large in the distance and the bustle of Waikiki is just far enough away. As Americans begin to travel again, first to destinations like Hawaii, Kaimana Beach Hotel will be an apt stay for the moment. And, if history repeats itself, much longer than that."

We came here with a group of 30 and it was an incredible experience. We stayed in the park wing studio room, which had everything we needed. The website didn't mention it had a balcony, which was an added bonus. The hotel is gorgeous and right on the beach, which was never too crowded. Food at Hau Tree and coffee at Sunset Provisions were both delicious. Only thing to note is that the hotel doesn't provide beach umbrellas, but you can buy a small one at the convenience store for about $20. The staff here was so friendly and accommodating, we felt cared for by everyone. I think the bang for your buck here is unmatched, and I cannot wait to return.

Had great short stay at the Kaimana Beach Hotel. Located beach front, this boutique hotel, which has been updated is a hidden gem. |The hotel is at the edge of Waikiki, across from Kapiolani park which is great for walking, fee tennis, and an outdoor fitness area. The hotel is also walking distance to the zoo, and restaurants and shops in Waikiki. ||The entire staff is friendly and welcoming, and embodies the spirit of Aloha. ||Great check in experience, with a free cocktail at the hau tree lanai. ||The room was compact, but clean, and nicely appointed, including comfortable bedding, nice linens, new A C. And a clean and efficient bathroom with a great shower. ||You can request a coffeemaker, bottled water and a robe free of charge. It’s part of the resort fee. They also have daily activities like lei making, I opted for a free paddle board lesson, which was awesome. ||If you’re looking for a boutique, upscale, beach front property, away from the main hustle of Waikiki but still walking distance. I highly recommend the Kaimana beach hotel.

Google
Our stay at Kaimana Beach Hotel was absolutely wonderful, a 5+. The location of, and views from, the hotel were perfect; our room was spacious, spotless, and super comfortable. I had the pleasure of dining at the hotel restaurant, and it was an outstanding experience - delicious food, excellent service, and a gorgeous view. Finally, your staff was exceptional; every single person we had the pleasure of interacting with was helpful, friendly, lovely, and a true testament to the Aloha spirit. Thank you for helping to make our Hawaiian vacation the trip of a lifetime!!! Mahalo and a hui hou. 💜

Google
My wife and I indulged in the ocean view hotel room and it was well worth the investment. The space was well designed and the beds were very comfortable. Having the beach just outside of the building made our relaxation time so much easier.||We had brunch and dinner at their restaurant, the Hau tree. Both times were incredible with warm and unique hospitality from our servers Ali and Michael. The food was top notch, the Uber cinnamon roll was over the top indulgent and the house made pasta was delicious.

Google
This hotel had awesome views and was nicely updated rooms. The staff were friendly and the daily turndown service was excellent. The lounge had a great breeze and space for sitting and meeting friends. The restaurant was conveniently located and had beautiful views and felt intimate despite being in a busy area. Convenient beach access with towel service and conveniently located outside showers and indoor bathrooms on the lobby level. Concierge staff attentive.

Google
Loved our corner view room of the mountains and the beach. Great sized room. The location of this hotel is perfect. You are not right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. It truly feels like Hawaii, peaceful. Will definitely stay here again.

Google
Was the perfect stay for a solo female traveler! I was recommended by a travel agent and felt incredibly safe here. I had a gorgeous mountain view room! The bed was super comfortable and they had great shampoo/conditioner accommodations. My main reason for booking was location + the Lei making and yoga classes they offered ( which was awesome! ) I loved the little boutiques attached to the hotel to shop local vendors too. Super convenient location to Waikiki & spots to adventure. Valet was so worth it - super efficient and friendly! All staff ( front desk, cleaning, & servers at the restaurant ) were incredibly helpful, personable and accommodating. I would absolutely stay here again!

The hotel is amazing but had no gym. Other than that, the location is great. The restaurant is amazing for dinner. The staff is friendly, rooms were clean, etc. If you don't need a gym I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Super simple check in. Met the GM, Ha'aheo and Guest services Director, Kyle. At check in, Kyle and his team were pleasant and efficient. They responded quickly to text requests. Room was clean and the view was amazing. Perfect for a weekend staycation. Good and drinks were great. Thank you Ha'aheo and team for a relaxing weekend!

Yelp
Overall: Really nice staff who seem to enjoy their jobs and are extremely accommodating. AND the hotel is cute and the location is amazing! Close enough for able bodied to walk to the hustle and bustle of Waiks while having a quieter room experience away from the noise and chaos. Kaimana beach (water) is also cleaner and the actual beach a lot less crowded. Also as a Kamaaina there were some perks involved with the overall cost. Still a bit pricey but made the cost a little more affordable. Side note: Rooms aren't perfect. Don't expect ultra luxurious. Very old kitschie hotel that underwent a trendy surface quick remodel. We had 2 rooms and in both the split air conditioning needed to be cleaned b/c it smelled stale. The unit in my room in particular probably needed to be replaced or zapped with freon. Maintenance came to my room and cleaned the super dirty screen but that didn't help much as the room still did not get very cold. Also if you are OCD and picky you may notice areas of the room that are a bit run down.

Yelp
Tranquil Retreat at Kaimana Beach Hotel My time at Kaimana Beach Hotel was a serene and delightful experience that left me thoroughly impressed. The hotel's location, nestled near the iconic Diamond Head Volcano and steps away from the beautiful Kaimana Beach, provides a picturesque backdrop for a relaxing getaway. The staff's hospitality was noteworthy, with a friendly and attentive team dedicated to ensuring a comfortable stay. Their local insights and recommendations added a personal touch to the overall experience. While the hotel may not boast extravagant amenities, it compensates with its charm, location, and the genuine aloha spirit. Kaimana Beach Hotel is a gem for those seeking a quieter, more intimate escape in Waikiki

Yelp
This is equivalent to a motel. The website is deceiving and the rooms are terrible. The bed literally sinks once you lay on it. This is also not close to the Waikiki strip so expect to walk through the dark and sketchy park back to the hotel. Don't waste your money here.

Yelp
Jamie W. and I stayed at not one but two hotels on our recent holiday in Honolulu. The first was on the 30th floor of the nicely appointed Prince Waikiki close to Ala Moana (review: https://bit.ly/3LxxAfn). We stayed four nights there because the fourth night was free, Then we came here beyond the other side of Waikiki for the remaining three nights to save some money. You can tell where this story is going. We reserved a room with a Diamond Head View, and for $279 per night (vs. $400 at the Prince Waikiki), it was a much smaller room with a Queen bed (photo: https://bit.ly/3lj7qlN) and a very small bathroom. Indeed it had the view though not as dramatic as I was hoping since we were just on the 8th floor (photo: https://bit.ly/3mRy0CK). However, the feeling of claustrophobia was not just limited to the room. The hotel lobby and bar area also felt crowded and quite dated. It was built in 1963, and it definitely had that retro-vintage feel in the furnishings and the wall art. Normally I would enjoy such quaint surroundings, but somehow the combination of old-fashioned and relaxing wasn't quite working. The front desk staff were not particularly full of aloha as they were selective who they welcomed. Apparently we didn't make the cut. The one true upside was direct access to the beach, and just being away from the crowds on Waikiki was a blessing (photo: https://bit.ly/3JqsE98). That holds true for the hotel's slightly remote location which definitely added to our step count. RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Yelp
Loved our stay. The staff were all so nice, efficient, and hospitable. Jasmine was excellent- very helpful.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel! The rooms are spacious and the views spectacular! We had oceanfront rooms that had more than enough room, were modern, and clean. Housekeeping was on top of everything! The hotel provides reef safe sunscreen, beach chairs, beach towels, and use of bikes to ride around town. My husband liked the bikes so much that he bought one when we got back from Hawaii! This was our 1st family vacation to Oahu and we had a wonderful experience at Kaimana Beach Hotel. Kayah, Chad, & Jasmine among others at the front desk provided the best customer experience and I could not be more grateful. Thank you to all for sharing your aloha spirit! We will be back!

Yelp
We just came back from amazing 5 day trip, used Costco Travel to book it.At that time they had the best rates. We opted to upgrade to ocean from room, wise choice! Our daughter and her friend had the City View room it was very small but nice and clean. The little balcony offered a peekaboo of the ocean, you have to walk outside and look for it.They didn't even know it was there until I pointed it out . We love the bar and enjoyed our cocktails (I recommend the espresso martini). We also made reservations for Hau Tree reservation, food and view was excellent! I think some of the bad reviews are for some of other rooms that perhaps look over parking lot. This location was PERFECT for us.A 15-20 minute walk to center of Waikiki and decided to walk to our hike at Diamond Head,it was 2.4 miles. We felt it was worth it to avoid the crazy traffic getting into the park. I was worried my daughter and friend (both 21)would think their city room was too small and location not central enough for them but they loved it and are dying to come back! They Uber'ed or walked everywhere. They stayed at Beachcomber Hotel last visit, had a great time but thought beach in Waikiki was crazy busy. They felt pampered having the Kaimana Beach steps away from our hotel and loved swimming next to the friends friendly seal who hangs out there. Just a warning about Costco Travel-their website claims it offers a $100 food/beverage credit however when I asked hotel clerk they said it was not part of our package.I'm in process doing a chargeback of $100 with my credit card. We look forward to coming back next year(but not with Costco lol)can't wait!

Yelp
*** PARKING INFORMATION *** My stay was (9/9/23-9/16/23) I'm not going to get into all the positive and negative about this hotel. You can check out other reviews about that. But I will give you information about parking. No other post had said anything so I will fill in the blanks. The hotel does NOT have free parking at all. Hotel related: only Valet for $40 a day. That's the only option. But I learned how to park around here with my rental. If you park on Kalākaua Ave, which is the street that the hotel is on, you can park on that street. There are two side of the street to park on. On the hotel side are hourly parking (free). On the park side of the street are meters. The meters are the old school style coined operated. There are NO app or credit card options, that may change in the future but as of this post it's still coins. The meters run from 10am-6pm everyday but free on Sunday. Parking at the meters has a 4hr max limit, so expect to move your car if you are not going out. Don't miss paying because the metermaids do patrol and do give out tickets. The current rate is ¢25 for every 30 minutes. If you need coins, the hotel does provide change. Just ask the front desk to break some dollars for you. Don't worry about parking availability, there is always parking. And more so after 6pm (everyone at the beaches start to leave). Also on the hotel side of the street there are no meters but do have a 2hr limit parking. If you are lucky, just to the left of the hotel, in front of the Lotus hotel, are two all day parking spots with no limit or cost. The sign that should be there has been long since missing. But always check. Everything is subject to change, signage and cost. So make sure that all the signs are good. I live in San Francisco where parking and ticketing for parking is notorious. The policy for parking is that you are responsible for up to 150 feet of signs in both directions. Now, I don't know what the policies and rules here in Waikiki are, but that's how I viewed it and didn't get a ticket when I parked in the lucky spot. Hope this helps. Side note of why my 3 stars: -Small bed -Didn't like the bathroom door that was more like a window blinds. So yea... my lady heard my farts and smelled my number 2s. There was no vent in the bathroom. After the first time, I started using the lobby bathroom all week. -Couldn't get reservations for my own hotel's restaurant. It was booked out for 3 weeks after my stay. But when you can get the food it's really good just expensive. But whatever you're in Hawaii. GET the "crab tagliatelle"!!!!! THAT WAS FIRE!!!! My lady got the squid ink campanelle, it was good. -the air conditioner needs to be cleaned. -and of course the parking.

Yelp
Great location, cute lobby and very friendly staff. We took advantage of most of the 'amenities' (bathrobes, electric kettle, cups, silverware, etc.) but you did have to ask for them to be brought to the room - there's literally nothing in the room if you don't ask. Rooms are also a little dated but we were never really in the room so that wasn't a huge issue for us. Overall, the room was cleaned well everyday which was nice but the soap they have was pretty cheap so we ended up having to buy our own since we had such a long stay. There's also no coffee / tea / water offered (there is a great coffee shop right outside the hotel but it's VERY expensive). There's a place to refill water bottles in the lobby but the hotel doesn't provide water bottles and only gives small glasses if you ask. They also offer towels but no beach bags. All in all, a lot of things were just short of being perfect. Also, when we came the beach was closed because of the monk seal and the hotel really didn't do much to make up for the inconvenience. The main reason for staying here is that it's right on the beach! Without that, the hotel really loses some of it's charm and you have to walk pretty far to get to the next sizeable beach. Finally, the restaurant in the hotel is good but it closes for part of the day and only a limited menu is available for room service. They also won't let you sit at the tables or bar in that area when the restaurant is closed so again, without beach access there was no where to have coffee in the AM or to sit and relax outside of the room without walking pretty far. I wouldn't stay here again when the beach is closed.

Yelp
The best Hotel in waikiki !!they are professional, welcoming The view and the food is amazing

Yelp
Had a great 7 night stay here. The service was great, the employees were all so kind and helpful, and the location is perfect - only about a 10 minute walk to the heart of Waikiki. The hotel is closer to Diamond Head, which is nice and not in the chaos of the city. Enjoyed all of the amenities and loved the valet parking daily.

Valerie J.

Yelp
truly disappointed. property sits on incredible beach. unfortunately, the people on site paid to SERVE guests were rude, condescending, judgmental and disrespectful. "hotel manager" Ha'aheo needs an ego check (self-righteous, entitled, arrogant words actions and behavior); he needs to learn how to communicate with compassion, kindness and respect. highly recommend choosing to spend time, energy and money elsewhere.

Cassie G.

Yelp
First of all I had to get my own bags up the stairs after paying for valet parking. I went to my room. The air conditioner in the room was dusty and the room looked like a motel six with better pillows. In the morning i went to iron my shorts and they left a brown gooey stain on them from something someone else had burnt to it. The bathtub was dirty. I ordered food and my burger was raw and they forgot my drink. The view was beautiful and front desk staff and restaurant was super nice! Your paying for a view not for cleanliness. Also super noisy in the morning banging and maybe some construction.

Thu N.

Yelp
My second stay here! The first time was when it was still The New Otani. It has now been renovated and has new owners. My stay was fantastic just like the first. The only difference this time is the place has a new vibe and updated new decor. Everything else is the same which is good! Staff is very friendly. Rooms are clean and modern. This hotel area is also very safe & quiet. If you prefer to be in a more busier area then this isn't it. I walked every evening to the busier Waikiki area and it only takes about 15 minutes. Some helpful pointers: 1. Valet is $40/night. Save your $ and park next door at the beach area. It's very easy to find a spot early morning or towards the evening. If you decide to park across at the meters then it's free after like 6pm. I had no issues finding parking during my stay. 2. There are Electra bikes for you to use! First come first serve. They're a little old but they work. 3. Beach access is the main reason why this hotel is great. The beach is at the end of Waikiki. It's a lot quieter and cleaner!

Lawrence L.

Yelp
Had an amazing stay here with my fiancé. From the valet to the house cleaning staff, everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating. I had mentioned that it was my fiancés birthday weekend and our engagement celebration and our room was upgraded. The local beach was break-taking being clear and great for swimming and snorkeling. The room itself was a little dated but not distracting. The hotel restaurant - Hau Tree - was also very nice. Would 10/10 recommend and come back.

Yelp
Spent our honeymoon week at this hotel and it was great! We had the corner ocean view room which was perfect. The wraparound balcony was amazing. We were able to see the ocean and Diamond Head as well as the Waikiki skyline in the distance. Our room was clean and spacious and they gave us a little welcome bubbly with a lovely handwritten note. The service and hospitality is great overall. Having the beach right outside the hotel was so convenient. We got more of a local vibe and even saw a monk seal swimming right next to the shore! Waikiki can be very busy and touristy, I'm so glad we stayed at KBH. After sunset the area near the hotel is peaceful and serene and we were able to see the stars every night from our balcony. One of our favorite parts of the trip was watching the sunset nightly. I felt so much joy opening the curtains every morning to the awesome view of sand, surf and palm trees. There isn't a pool or a hot tub which I missed a little but the hotel does offer classes daily (yoga, paddle boarding, lei making) and since the beach was right there I ended not caring about the lack of those other amenities. This is a great hotel for couples and families alike. We also enjoyed the Sunset Provisions coffee shop our first morning there and the Hau Tree restaurant on our final night. 5 stars for KBH!

Yelp
We've stayed here a few times in the past but this year we've noticed too many cons. November 2023-the rooms are showing a lot of wear and tear. The bathroom sink is all cracked. The toilets are the very low to the ground type without soft close seats. The shower curtain has holes in it. No end table in one side of the king size bed to put your phone or a glass of water. No towel rods to hang your wet bath towel. The bathroom is so tiny (and very OLD) it's challenging to close the door once you're in there. No screens on the slider so the pigeons walk right into the room. It's just not what it used to be. I'm so sad because we used to love it here.

Yelp
Yesterday, the wife and I went on our first staycation in well over a year. Unfortunately, it was only a 1-nighter... we would've stayed longer but the wife couldn't get off of work for more than a day. The wife requested that we stay at Kaimana Beach Hotel for the view and to see how everything looked after their last renovation. I don't know what to say. It just wasn't anything special. We got an ocean view room that was priced at a little over $400 a night. With the numerous taxes and valet parking (the only option) it was close to $500 for a single night. The staff were friendly and efficient and there were no complaints there. But the facilities and rooms just seemed so rundown. Stains on the bedding, stains on the walls, stains/dirt everywhere. There were several flying pests that visited us throughout the night. The mini fridge had standing water on the bottom shelf.... presumably from ice melting in the internal freezer. The ice bucket had a tiny hair in it. And the room had the bare minimum amenities-- no bottled water, NO CUPS, and tiny bottles of toiletry articles. The room had a decent view and we were happy to try something new. But we likely wouldn't come back here again.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of staying at the revamped KBH after a 3 year absence this past week! It was fantastic!!! I had previously stayed there around 3x annually for the last 5 years when it was under the New Otani Hotel chain ownership. I love the updates the new owners have done to the photos in the room, wallpapers, color palette and friendly staff as always. I was able to text concierge for any needs for our room. We stayed in the 1BDR PH and it was amazing for our work trip. A desk setup with a stunning view of the cityscape plus phenomenal ocean view. Working in that environment was very conducive and inspiring. We were able to ask for real dishes and utensils for any food takeout (Diamond Head Market & Grill of course) which was a nice touch to eat on the balcony. The Hau Tree Restaurant is a great option and has beautiful beach views. The new coffee shop is also amazing. Best coffee and the staff in there friendly and make a mean almond latte! I cannot wait to go back and stay in #921

Yelp
Best hotel on the island for beach accessibly and showers! Amazing staff and super cool vintage hawaii vibes! What an amazing remodel, housekeeping staff were incredible and food from Hau Tree was flavorful, delicious and steak cooked perfectly.

Douglas S.

Yelp
A clean, comfortable hotel RIGHT ON THE BEACH and a few blocks past the high-rise pandemonium that can be Waikiki. Walking into "town" is about 10 minutes, and an hour walk will get you pretty much anywhere you might like to go. The rooms are a little dated but this isn't a bad thing, it just is. I do wish they'd update their TV setup in the rooms, so we could find a directory, check out, that sort of thing. But the staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas if you want to sit on the beach. The restaurant and bar are good. Did I mention, RIGHT ON THE BEACH! If I could make a wish, it would be the the restaurant menu should have a few local grindz dishes, not all mainland food, but it's a small issue because they're RIGHT ON THE BEACH! Price/Value? Perfect!!

Yelp
Where do I start?!? I mean, when you imagine the most incredible trip to Hawaii, with THE MOST incredible boutique hotel and amazing staff, you think of the Kaimana Beach Hotel. Period. I recently visited the Kaimana Beach Hotel on a surprise proposal trip, and booked a total of 6 rooms for our entire party. There's so much love to give, so I'm going to compartmentalize my review in a few different areas: Reservations: From the beautiful website, to the ease of calling in, I had no trouble working with Kaimana. I always think that's your first impression into the property and experience, so hats off to an easy time booking. Shout out to Atsuko for being so professional, so sweet and really efficient when it came to booking my block of rooms. Thanks, Atsuko!!! Location: The location was soooo perfect. I will say traveling during a spike in COVID is always nerve racking and I really love where Kaimana is located. It's separate from the hustle and bustle of Kalakaua and Kuhio, located next to the Elks Club where I frequent, and has a small beach in front of the property. I felt like I was at an inclusive resort and a lot more private which made our vacation wonderful! Property: WHAT A CUTE PROPERTY! The hotel was formerly the Otani Hotel, now turned into a very cute boutique hotel. The wall art is something outside of a magazine - totally instagramable!! The property had all the amenities I'd be looking for: seating areas, a bar, a restaurant, access to the beach, beach amenities, private dining rooms, and more. Rooms: I was blown away. 5 of our rooms were ocean view rooms and my room was upgraded to a top floor diamond head suite. WOW. Each room was carefully crafted, decorated and including amazing amenities. The views were spectacular and it was super spacious!!! Staff: What an amazing group of people. I'm going to give each one specific love. Overall, I felt like part of the family. Each person was genuine and so lovely. - Valet: RJ and Trent were great - so quick and took the time to make sure our party was well taken care of. We even ordered ubers/cabs and they were on it. Appreciate that sooo much. - Bell and Beach: Matt - super accommodating and nice. He stood close to the front desk to make sure whatever we needed, he was there to handle with care and efficiency - Front Desk: Orlando and Mizuho - AH-MAZE-ING. So personable, so cordial, and took that extra step to personalize my trip. They remembered why we were there (for the proposal) and congratulated us EVERYDAY. Love love love them. Mizuho's kids attend my alma mater; I just love how that conversation really made me part of her family - Food/Bev: Sadie and Eric were great servers for brunch and for our morning beverages. They were nice and all around approachable!! Concierge: I've gotta make a special shout out to Kalei in concierge. She and I have been friends for a long time, so none of this would have been possible, had it not been for Kalei. From the details, the recommendations on spots around the islands, the introduction of vendors for the proposal, Kalei did not skip a beach. When it came to the amenities of the hotel, she was so accommodating to me and my family, signed us up in all the things that made our trip magical and continued to go above and beyond during our stay. There were even customized baskets in our room to welcome my family to Hawaii. Beyond being one of my closest friends, she's just one of the most professional, most accommodating, most personable members of Kaimana Beach Hotel. I couldn't have asked for a better friend. Overall experience: I think it goes without saying, this hotel will continue to be our preferred spot for years to come. The overall experience was amazing and I can't wait to come back to Oahu and stay at the Kaimana. Thanks again for all your hospitality!!!

Yelp
We stayed for a total of 11 nights and 12 days. Located away from the busyness of Waikiki, Kiamana has beautiful views of Diamondhead as well as Kiamana beach. We chose to split or stay and spent the first half of our stay with a Mountain View and the second half of our stay with a partial ocean view room. Both of our rooms ended up being on the corners giving us extra large balcony space. They also were fairly large rooms as they both were ADA accessible rooms. The bed in our first room was incredibly comfortable compared to the bed in our second room which was much more firm. It was clear though that our first room had not been renovated yet as when we moved to our second room the room had clearly been renovated with wallpaper and additional amenities. As there were no additional renovations going on at the time it makes me wonder what the resort plan is for updating the mountain view rooms. We had excellent service from Camille at the front desk every time we stop by. She always greeted us with a smile, even behind her mask, and always was able to answer our questions. The few times we stopped by and interacted with the graveyard staff, while they were polite they were also quite curt in their responses. Beach towels are not in the room but they are available as you walk out to the beach and you were also able to utilize beach chairs and umbrellas based upon availability. The resort does offer planned activities throughout the day and if you provide your phone number you will receive text messages the day before with the next days events. Dining options are limited to HauTree and the bar. While the bar is open throughout the day it does close at 9 PM. The restaurant is open for breakfast/brunch from 8 AM to 1 PM and then opens for dinner from 3:30 to 9 PM. If you are like us and choose to sleep in and may have a late start to the day then you may find yourself having to find lunch somewhere else. Valet parking is available for $40 a day. There is street parking nearby but only one side is free while the other side is metered parking. All parking becomes free after 6 PM in the streets though. The Queen Kapoloni recreational space is right next-door to the resort and often times, especially on the weekends, there are lots of barbecues and parties going on well into the evening. The park/beach area closes to visitors from midnight to 5 AM. Something to consider if you want to enjoy your balcony if you are on a partial ocean view room.

Yelp
Has been a great experience staying here. We just needed a crash pad during our termite treatment. $188 (and taxes) for a night. Unit slept 4 adults comfortably. Pull out couch queen ( surprisingly comfortable), and two twins. Highly upgraded bath area, 2 TVs, wifi avail, fridge and micro. Love Hau Tree but opted for Diamondhead Grill, South Shore Grill, Bogarts, and Rainbows. No view, or elevator, it's not in the main hotel. But split AC made it nice.

Yelp
Near the edge of Waikiki, closer to Diamond Head sits the Kaimana Beach hotel, formerly New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel. The Kaimana Beach Hotel is under new ownership and they have been renovating. The lobby is bright and welcoming as is the staff. We are lucky to be staying in one of the newly renovated suites and the decor and views are worth every single penny. I would live here if I could! The staff is courteous, kind, and helpful. You can tell everyone is genuinely smiling under their masks. Parking is valet only. The restaurant has a new menu and we had a chance to have lunch after we checked in. The food is so tasty! We'll be having brunch tomorrow for sure. They do allow you to take your drinks back up to your room.

Yelp
I stayed here back in the 80s when it was the new otani hotel. I was there for 10 days and had a lovely visit. The room was great and comfortable. The view was good. The service was good. The location is a little off the beaten path, but that was nice. The beach is lovely and not very crowded. It's a short walk to Diamondhead. And the hau tree restaurant is fabulous.

Yelp
I got the ocean view room. The room was fine since I only had 2 small carry on luggage but it might be a problem for those who have more luggage. The closet looks big on the outside but once you opened it, half of it is blocked off by a wall sticking out. As for housekeeping, they are quick but...doesn't mean they do a good job. On the first day, there are leftover hair ties from previous guests at the bathroom. They give you new shampoo, body wash, condition and lotion on the 6th day. So don't expect them to provide new ones every 3 days. Water is included with the $25 hotel fee but...I only got it once out of 7 days! I even message and called them about it. Anyway, you're better of going to lobby to refill water or buy your own. There are plenty of meter parking outside but it's best for those who come back after 5 pm since it can be hard to get a spot after 10 am. Valet parking is $40. There are free activities daily. You can looked it up at their website to sign up for an activity. The beach is right outside which is great for those who just want to enjoy the beach. I didn't try the restaurant downstairs since it's overpriced. Coffee and tea aren't provided but there is a cafe to purchase.

Yelp
I love this hotel. It's such a gem. Super cute. Overlooks all of Waikīkī without all the ghetto tourists. When you walk in the lobby you automatically get the hotel vibe everything about this place even the rooms are just yasssss!

Yelp
This is the most wonderful, comfy, beautiful hotel I've ever had the pleasure of staying. Our room was perfect, the beach is amazing, the staff are like family. We really had a ball beginning to end. Definitely coming back every year!

Yelp
The iconic Kaimana Beach Hotel is probably the best location in Waikiki. Located at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki directly adjacent to Kaimana beach 2H, a warm and helpful staff, and with Kapiolani Park across the street this is hard to beat - unless you need something other than a discount motel mattress and broken furniture. Apparently housekeeping replaced all the mattresses 18-months ago. The mattress in our room 528 and the alternative we were offered were beyond soft. An informal polling of other guests confirmed this assessment. One guest remarked that she could only get to sleep after taking a Tylenol. Folks who love it really soft may be ok but if you are a side sleeper it's not recommended. Sorry. This is a great hotel that we have stayed at before and always mention as a winner but management needs to really spend some time in these rooms and ask themselves if this is standard that they aspire to. Let me add that the on-duty staff did as much as they could and allowed us to check-out after one night. The rooms are very clean and you can tell the staff is working hard to elevate the guest experience. There's nothing they can do about the quality of the fixtures. That's an owner's problem.

Yelp
We decided to do a staycation for three nights as my husband and I both have a week off at the same time. We booked an ocean view room and we were originally booked for a beautiful corner room. However, upon entry into our room I smelled a strong cologne smell. I have seasonal allergies and am very sensitive to smells but I told myself "You'll get over this" as the room had stunning views. I opened the sliding doors to air out the room for 45 minutes but I still smelled a strong odor. My husband called the concierge desk and they sent over the maintanence crew, John. He agreed there was a smell that was not any of their cleaning products- most likely from a guest that just left that morning. He offered to spray the room with air freshener or sanitizer but the thought of more smells mixing made me say to my husband I have to go home for the night or change rooms. He was helpful and told us to let the concierge know immediately. When we went downstairs to explain the situation, Rob immediately took care of the matter and had us stay in a beautiful ocean view suite for one night. Due to the place being pretty booked we actually don't know how where next two nights will be but I was so grateful for this adjustments and accommodations from Rob... thank you so much! We have two more nights so we'll see how this experience goes!

Yelp
So...this happened last night...fortunately the last night of our stay here... My wife calls the restaurant for a reservation with a couple of friends. She's told that no reservations are taken on the upstairs level and that it's first come, first served. Ten minutes later we go down and we're told that all tables are reserved but they can accommodate us in 45 minutes. And sure enough, all tables have a reserved sign on them. There is some kind of disconnect that I must not be seeing. When I tried to get more information or any explanation at all, I'm told...it's policy... One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at, and I've been all over the world.

Yelp
Had lunch with a friend...not a great menu. I ordered coffee and the pastry trio. Firstly the pieces were miniscule. Secondly the tiny croissant was hard as a rock. I asked when their pastry came in and they said every morning. This particular croissant could not have. Wouldn't recommend lunch there. I used to go regularly for years but haven't been for quite some time. I understand their staff has changed.

Yelp
This was our first time, visiting Kaimana Beach Hotel and it was absolutely perfect! It was very quiet and peaceful, nice to be away from the chaos in Waikiki and be closer to Diamond Head! We booked the Corner Diamond Head room and we loved how spacious it was! We are locals and the Kamaaina discount was still pretty expensive but we were happy with the huge lanai and it was kind of worth it. I was disappointed that they did not put a lounge chair on my patio, like the pics but the front desk told me they ran out of them. The coffee shop downstairs made great coffee and we enjoyed 2 free ones with our visit. The ube and mac nut latte was so good! Hau Tree, changed since the last time we visited. I think their old menu was way better but we still enjoyed the Loco Moco and Eggs Benedict in the morning! Bar drinks are way too expensive and not worth it. Not much alcohol content in them. Just my opinion. Other than that, room was wonderful, quiet, peaceful rest and they let us check out a little later. Great front desk staff! The hotel is literally a step away from San Souci beach, so very convenient if you want to go swimming or just take a stroll along the beach. Perfect location and atmosphere! Mahalo, Elysia

Yelp
I loved staying at Kaimana Beach Hotel and will definitely be coming back! Highlights include a very quiet room, amazing beach access, friendly staff (especially Jonathan in housekeeping, the lei-making instructor from concierge, and one of the hosts at Hau Tree who helped me with my reservation the morning of Mon. Sept 20 - I don't remember her name but she has short brown hair). I love that the hotel offers activities for guests. I really like the virtual service assistant - you just text whatever you need and the service will facilitate whatever you're asking for! Brunch at Hau Tree is an absolute must. Some of the best French toast and eggs Benedict I've ever had! Overall, this is a quiet, romantic little gem tucked away from the crowded storefronts and throngs of tourists. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We have stayed here a couple of times and really enjoy this hotel. It's right on the beach and the restaurant is great. Outdoor dining with excellent service and the food is beautifully prepared. The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. It's the greatest location. We got to see the monk seal who enjoys the beach near the hotel. The ocean view room has a long lanai with a lovely view. We can hang out in the room and look down at the beach and out over the ocean. We signed up for a fitness class but the teacher didn't show up. We were surprised that a few days after we returned home, the manager offered us a free night at the hotel anytime within the next year. Wow! The Kaimana is so very generous. We look forward to our return visit.

Yelp
After cancelling our first hotel we initially booked for a short trip to Hawaii, we looked for one that was in a beautiful spot but also a little closer to shops in case we needed something. This one for sure fit the bill. Kaimana Beach Hotel is located right in front of Diamond Head and is in what I consider, a really great area. We used miles that we had from years of not traveling and spent an additional amount to upgrade to an Ocean View Room. Let me tell you, WORTH IT 100%. We flew in around 4pm and by the time we got to the hotel, we were able to watch the sunset from the balcony. The room itself was lovely. A huge king size bed, decent size bathroom, and actual floor to ceiling windows that opened onto the balcony. It was so beautiful we never closed the blinds at night. Waking up to the sun and drinking a cup of coffee was 110% the entire goal for this trip and it was accomplished. The front lobby is technically an inside/outside place. There's not really a front door and more so just an archway you walk through. If you keep going straight, you walk into the bard and restaurant that are on the beach. Everyone who worked there was super friendly. Also the parking there is valet only I'm pretty sure. The lot is super tiny so it makes sense. You're next to a long street that runs the length of the beach and park that also has parking but it always fills up on weekends due to the amazing bbqs people do all day in the park and on the beach. The smells that came up to our balcony? 10 out of 10. I read online that it's not actually the initial hotel that used to be here which you can tell due to some upgrades they're actively making. We didn't care though. Our room alone made everything worth it. Also the few times we saw housekeeping, they were so nice and went out of their way to wave or say hi and bye regardless of where they were on our floor. You do have easy access to the beach as well which is super nice. It does fill up insanely on the weekends. On a weekday it wasn't bad but a lot of people come just to watch the sunset and it gets a little crazy. Also if you're lucky you'll see a seal on the beach and WE DID AND IT WAS GREAT. Best seal butt ever. They rope off the area as well so no one can get too close and honestly, love to see it. We can't wait to come back in the future.

Yelp
I really enjoyed staying here, it's peaceful compared to the hotels on the strip. Shower was nice, warm and strong! Love the private beach and the corner room with the L shape balcony. Not much food options within walking distance, but that's okay. There is a convenience store in the front, coffee and pastries and a bar/restaurant located there. I will stay here again! Five Stars!

Jeremy M.

Yelp
This hotel it a gem. With its recent makeover it really makes for a nice, relaxing stay. My husband and I took a little 2 day staycation here for his birthday. The amenities are average, but you're really paying for location. We splurged and got a beachfront view. (Go big or go home) I highly recommend this beautiful spot. I really can't say anything bad about it. It's pretty fresh!

Yelp
We have been to Oahu many times, but usually stay on the North Shore. This time decided to try something new, and chose this hotel specifically to have the "best of both worlds, " the excitement of Waikiki and the peacefulness of a beachside hotel. Kaimana Beach Hotel was able to give us just that. This hotel is a bit away from the bustle of the city but close enough to enjoy it anytime we wanted. We woke up to a beautiful and quiet view every morning and walked to the heart of the city for our meals. After a day of sightseeing, we came back to enjoy the tranquil and calm beach. The resort fee covers towels and chairs, and umbrellas (however the umbrellas go quick). A staff member will help you set up the umbrellas and chairs. The beach itself is not a private beach, but is shared with the local community. Never crowded but very cool to see everyone enjoying this beautiful part of the beach. Our room was lovely as well, a bit small but definitely enough room for two people. Housekeeping was very impressive and kept our room tidy everyday. There is a restaurant on site which we were excited to try that was a bit disappointing. Very slow service and my food came out cold. However, the food in itself was very delicious, I was impressed. There is also valet parking which was quite expensive at 40 dollars per day. Tip: ask for a coffee maker to be sent to your room with coffee pouches, so you can enjoy a nice cup of Hawaiian coffee on your balcony

Yelp
The whole Kaimana experience was not good from the get go. Reserved a corner ocean front room. The price of the room was 500.00 and change. I left a deposit for the first night which was supposed to be 605.00. The amount charged to my credit card was 741.00. When we checked in that wasn't even the prize of a one night stay. It was over $800.00. Room had a great few but the hotel needs some TLC. Had lunch at the restaurant. The food was good but the service was horrible. Had to wait for a table which was fine, but when we finally got seated it took for ever for a waitress to help us. And, her attitude was horrible. Like she was doing us a favor for waiting on us.

Yelp
We were regulars of the New Otani and had gotten to know the old staff, most of them are sadly gone with the new owners, but the good news is that they renovated the lobby and restaurant areas nicely (they needed it) and the new staff is very nice. The menu at the Hau Tree is simpler and better. The food is excellent. We normally stay in a suite on the top floor- they were nicely renovated with much more comfortable furniture. Housekeeping and supervisors were obviously paying attention, everything was nice and clean. Beach services are a nice new feature and the front desk staff is outstanding, I really liked the text concierge. The hotel was full, but they respond quickly! This is not a Ritz Carlton, but if you like being off Waikiki, it's a nice full service hotel, not too large. The park across the street is awesome.

Lynn C.

Yelp
Only for receptionist at desk on 8/19/23 1400. NO Aloha spirit, replace her with Hau tree & Sunset restaurant personnel.

Mckenna R.

Yelp
Ok this hotel is just so cute. Let me start by saying that the staff here is AMAZING! They went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. Only downside is paying $40 per day for valet and there is no other parking on-site.

Selena J.

Yelp
Passive Aggressively, racist! Let me start by saying the staff upon arrival was welcoming and amazing! Chris, Quentin and Bailey are top tier and your first experience is the reception team! That sets the tone and would ultimately be the reason I would look past my horrible experience. Someone got it right when they curated that team! However, this revue and rating is solely about Justin.. Whom happens to be their Catering Director. What would play out is not only what I would call for lack of better words " out of line" but truly showed the lack of EQ. This was surprising to me as to acquire such a title on any management level; one should embody thee highest form of EQ. After all, the service and hospitality industry is just that! Very little IQ is needed, discernment is what should be first before anything. I came to the restaurant on a Friday evening before dinner to have a cocktail and bites. I ordered hamachi and oysters, with a side of Mai Tai. Absolutely! Upon the arrival, the hamachi was room temperature yet the oysters were chilled, on ice. I was in such a hurry, I made no mention and closed out shortly after finishing my cocktail. I returned the following day to have that tasty mai tai! When the waitress came, we'll call her J ( I can't recall the remainder of her name) I let her know that I came the night before and my experience with the food, but that I wanted to give it a second shot because the preparation was so nice! She said she would mention it to the the kitchen and left. Twenty mins later, it arrives ( no drink still) and as I feared ..WARM! I asked J to take it as it was warm, she responded " I'll just get you a manager" while grabbing the plate abruptly. I said " no need to take the plate" but she insisted and so rudely walked off. Note, I never asked for anyone to come. I see her going from the service area to the room where mangers were meeting- frantically back and forth looking for someone. She finally found someone. I would be shortly disappointed with the events to follow. Finally, I see a man come out the pass. Now, in the service industry there is lingo and even actions that are corrected with experience and time. In one's early managerial career- this would still be a huge mistake! Justin, comes from the service pass and looks around and makes it appear as though he's looking for something or someone. In actuality, J had abreast him on the matter and he was peeking out to see who it was. ((Big mistake)) He then wraps the pass and to my surprise says " I knew it", (( HUGE MISTAKE)) he takes a few seconds and comes back out. WOW! I was in shock.. What did he know? That the food was not to code- in temperature? Did he know I was a woman? Did he know I was not white or a local? Did he know I was a black woman? That was a passive aggressive line that is subjective to interpretation. Though, quite clear what he was alluding. Shameful and racist! In addition, horrid to have a manger of any level to say and set the tone amongst his staff as ok. Upon Justin arriving, as did my cocktail ((now 30 mins late)). I let him know what happened and that I wanted it removed but would close out the remaining tab. When he returned I couldn't let it go with just a Yelp, trip advisor and or email review. I wanted him to know how he had offended me, and in such a horrible way. He stumbled over words while assuring me my next visit he would be sure to connect me with another manager and ensure a great experience. As if would want that...He knew he was wrong; lacked professionalism, EQ and leadership! He mentioned waiving the bill-as he should've. I left a tip for J, not because of her service but a reflection of my character. I didn't come to enjoy for free, I came to enjoy with ease! Justin knows the floor plan better than anyone else. He didn't need to see who made the complaint. He only needed to provide service! In actuality, this was a salt flake compared to the fires in events that have to be out out with so many moving parts. I know this- as I've been in event production for over 17 years. I was disappointed. I can't say I've experienced such tactless service, from any manger much less one with an elite title. That's a weighted position in hospitality. Justin dropped the ball, in a huge way. I returned to the bar the following days for cocktails as they were amazing and the mixologist who made them were all lovely! I mean truly lively and lovely! Paul, Seth, Felecia and the entire bar staff were great!! I never returned to have dinner with my family or clients, sadly. Unfortunate, as I intended on sharing with many people the calming ambiance and great drinks! While I can't say I'll ever return for dinner, we'll certainly be back for cocktails! PS Andrew was a great server and with a table of 8ppl, handled it all seamlessly and timely! Bitter sweetly..

Yelp
This hotel is situated at the end of Waikiki in an excluded manner which is perfect as it gives you more of a private beach hotel vibe. This hotel is the best place to catch a Hawaiian sunset. The hotel staff are attentive and very hospitable. They have a restaurant in the hotel called Hau Tree, and I highly recommend an evening dinner to catch the sunset. The hotel also has a convenience store right near valet in case you need something! The beach is family friendly but also popularly used for gatherings. The Waikiki aquarium is a 5 minute walk from the hotel if you and your family want to check out the local marine life! Overall, it was a great experience and we will be repeat guests in the future.

Kelly W.

Yelp
I'll be honest, for a night out with girls it would have been great. Upbeat music and the food is good. I love the location- we came to this restaurant for years, before the hotel got a face lift. However, for date night, I probably wouldn't come here again... hard to have a real conversation. Somewhat felt more like a club than a restaurant, which is really quite disappointing given its right on the beach. They do have a private room off to the side. I came here for a baby sprinkle and it was nice because it was a bit more private with a great view.

Victor D.

Yelp
Overpriced but definitely good spot to stay at - It does get really dark around as it is several blocks from Waikiki metropolis ....

Emily R.

Yelp
Exceptional location in the Waikiki Beach area! Seems to be the only hotel in this part of Honolulu that has direct beach access. Amenities are great, staff was friendly, and room was cozy with a fantastic view. Daily maid service was a plus. Hotel restaurant was great for dinner but just average for breakfast, and was expensive for both meals. Highly recommend Kaimana Beach Hotel!
