This is a rare cafe that has both AC and fast Wi-Fi along with comfortable seating. Breakfast was really good. They don't offer any specialty coffee and I didn't see espresso tonic but it's a great place to go if you want to get out of the heat and have a nice elegant place to go to work and eat some good food.

Google
I was looking all over for good cappuccino and espresso drinks in Puerto Vallarta and this is such a cute classic Austrian Café with authentic Austrian pastries as well! They have tiramisu… yesterday I tried a pecan bourbon tart, which was incredible. They also have apple strudel… The iced coffee drink is the Maximilian (Bailey, Kahlua, Frangelico en partes iguales y crema batida)

Absolutely fantastic! Met and exceeded expectations. Our waiter (I believe his name was Miguel?) Was phenomenal! He gave excellent menu suggestions and was exceptionally courteous and attentive. The place has a lovely old Europe vibe...the menu selections were incredible! I had the French onion soup...divine! Filet Mingion with potatoes and veggies...glorious! And Chocolate mousse 😍 I'd been excited to go here finally and must say it's was the best meal I've had in ages! There are many fine dining experiences in this city...but this one is a MUST

I couldn’t help but laugh the moment I saw this fried calamari. When I sent a photo to my friends, they asked if I was given leftover scraps from cooking. The second photo shows fried calamari I bought at another restaurant for a cheaper price. I was expecting something like that but I was really disappointed. If you’re not confident in your cooking, don’t serve this menu item at all

Stumbled upon this place as walking around PV... So glad we did! I'm a restaurant owner so pretty picky with my reviews. I can tell you this place is worth the visit. If your in PV and need a break from Mexican food, you have to try this. We felt we were back in Europe, the service food and drinks were amazing and very fair prices for such a nice meal. Will be going back this week!

We went for dinner. My beverage was a great let down. It was described as the most popular in Vienna. Well it had a flower and tons of ice and it had hardly any flavour. It was like soda water in a nice tall cocktail glass The meals were insufficient for an adult. We are NOT large heavy people. But we left hungry. The meals are served with the style of a chef, with sauces and little dots of another sauce and veggies cut in a flower shape to fill in empty spaces. My husband’s dish had a small size of beef on risotto, a cherry tomato, a small carrot piece, an asparagus on the top, a thick sauce one one side, the little dots of another sauce ( what can anyone do to that? Leak the plate?) a piece of carrot and another one of broccoli. Some herbs on the top and an elaborate net made off wheat flour and something that turns it black. That mainly-veggie-dish is not enough for a man. I had a combo fish , shrimp and chicken dish. The fish and chicken had skin. Not cool. The shrimps were not fully pealed. Not cool. I got a huge piece of bell pepper, one small piece of broccoli and another one of cauliflower with the sauces and the asparagus. My finger touched the black sauce and it stained under my fingernail. Yes both plates “looked good”. Yes the building is nice, yes there are nice set tables, dishes, cutlery and friendly staff very attentive. But the food is a joke. When we left my husband said, let’s go for dinner ( half joke as we don’t abuse food) but we both commented of how insufficient were both plates. Oh! I gave my husband my small chicken portion as I think my dish had more food than his. The waiters are trained to push for you to have desserts. Well I can see how many people would need them to have a feeling of satisfaction. We very seldom have desserts and we wouldn’t ordered anything else there By the way my husband is German. We are much better in Austria.

Google
Good coffee, but I’m giving a low rating because the first time I go was given complimentary refill and the next time was charged for 1 refill even while seated and was not told. charged $110 peso for 2 small cups - I don’t like inconsistency In pricing by nature. When I asked, I was given no explanation despite Bridget speaking English.Next time I prefer to try Dee’s very close Where the locals all tell me is most excellent!

We have had some really wonderful meals in Puerto Vallarta but this is on another level. We loved everything from start to finish. We appreciated the classy yet comfortable interior (definitely felt upscale but not pretentious), the kind and friendly staff, the soft classical music, and the variety offered on the menu. Our waiter has been at the restaurant for 28 years and his service really reflected his expertise. He had great recommendations for us. We chose the crab cake as an appetizer and from the first bite we knew it was going to be an amazing meal. I don’t even have the words to describe it but it was light, with the perfect texture, and the most amazing combination of flavors. Wow. There were 4 of us and each of us loved our entrees too. My filet minon was the best I’ve had, and it came with delicious sauce and vegetables. Prices were very reasonable given the quality. Highly recommend, and we will most definitely be back.

Yelp
Amazing! The best meal in PV. Excellent, old school professional service and top notch food. We split the cabbage soup, ravioli, veal, and the peach crepe dessert. The lychee martinis were wonderful and we had some great wine from valley de Guadalupe. Luis was absolutely wonderful. I had the best date night ever. I highly recommend for anyone looking for the perfect and authentic dinner

Yelp
We have walked by Kaiser Maximillian for 30 years and never stepped inside. What a mistake on our part. We had a great meal here. Thomas Stattler Gruner Veltliner, $1280. Very good. Johanneshof Reinisch Pinot Noir $1480. OK. Warm bread and butter. Ensalada César with potato croutons. Beautiful and delicious. Ravioli - fabulous flavors. Ravioli with fennel, prosciutto, mushrooms in an incredible cream sauce. Rack of lamb - awesome. Rich lamb with a silky demiglace. Apple strudel and sacher cake. Coffee and Liquor 43. ++ service - impeccable + music - soft jazz + cloth napkins + tablecloths + hefty flatware + elegant atmosphere $4869 for dinner for 2, inc propina

Yelp
It's the perfect old world European restaurant in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Lots of old room ambience and class. I love the red glasses and the plates on the table with red flowers when we first arrived. Our Caesar salad, which we split, was perfectly prepared and just the right amount. My cue royale was one of the first. I've been able to find anywhere in a while, and I savored it! I ordered crabcakes and my husband ordered veal scallopini. I remember when I was in cooking school they told me to test an Italian restaurant you should always have the veal scallopini! It's a good test because it only takes seconds to cook it and minutes to ruin it. My husband was somewhere in between. The sauce was lovely, but the veal was a little over cooked, He said he enjoyed the twice cooked potato more than anything else. The presentation was beautiful, but the taste was not quite as good. My crabcake presentation was perfect plating, but far from perfect taste. The onions very, very slimly sliced on top, we're beautiful, but would it tasted a lot better if they were warm and not cold and chewy. I really wasn't sure what they were at first. The crabcake itself was just OK as it was highly breaded, and I really couldn't even taste the crab. I ate most of it, but it was not exceptional. The wait staff is very formal and proper and everything about service was perfect. I just wish the food is was a lot tastier. I heard so much about it, I was really excited about having dinner there, and I was not disappointed by the ambience or the service .This is one of the few times I have to say that the food looked a lot better than it tasted.

Yelp
The food and service were amazing! Very nice atmosphere right on the street. Got the chilaquiles and they were delicious! 10 out 10 recommend.

Yelp
I have enjoyed many dinners in this restaurant always with exceptional service. The lunch yesterday was disappointing for the multiple reasons: upon arriving with my 3 guests at 2pm, we were not greeted nor was my reservation acknowledged. We were told by a bar employee to sit anywhere we desired. Without a hostess or waiter to greet us, we made a decision and seated ourselves. A middle aged man eventually came to our table. He was disheveled and without the normal uniform. His shirt was untucked & was wearing a soiled apron. We agreed he must be a kitchen staff rather than a waiter. It seemed a 2pm lunch lacked the regular staffing. I ordered a bottle of wine at a price of 750 pesos but upon arriving at our table, I noticed it wasn't what I had ordered. I questioned the price: he replied 1350 pesos. Nope! Sent it back. When our food arrived, we had to ask for napkins and knives as we noticed the table had not been appropriately set. Service was non existent albeit the food remained high quality as I had always enjoyed. In summary: I will never return for a lunch but will remain a loyal dinner customer. Sadly, It was obvious to us, the restaurant only started gearing up for staffing at 4pm. Appetizers and entrees and 2 bottles of wine for 4 (including gratuity) $320. USD. See photos of out food choices. 5 stars for food. 3 stars for poor service.

Yelp
Over the years I have always enjoyed having breakfast at Kaiser Max and sitting in the outside tables and watching the world go by On my recent trip to PV the thin pancakes and berries and excellent coffee were as good as ever Wait staff was alert and efficient and it all made for a great breakfast in a wonderful resort destination And KM was clean and had an old world charm to it Jim at Maplelag in Minnesota

Yelp
The food was great. We sat on the sidewalk and had a great waiter. I got some apple juice to drink, a cinnamon roll and ranchero eggs for my meal. They also brought out complementary toast. My eggs were well cooked and they came with beans, potatoes, avocado, and a slice of tomato. A filling meal. The food was great and they take cards here. Would definitely go here again.

Yelp
This was one of our favorite restaurants in Puerto Vallarta but this is not the same restaurant as before. Service was great, food horrible. All the entries were dry and over cooked. The salad was served on warm plates, the bread was day old. The only dish that was good was the french onion soup. We were a party of eight that left hungry and went down the street for tacos after this awful dinner. The new owner better take note and step up his game. Too many amazing restaurants in this town he is competing with.

Yelp
Pretty good, high quality Austrian food. A little pricey compared with nearby places, but there are not many Austrian restaurants on the continent.

Yelp
Austrian restaurant in the romantic zone. Having food here will transport you from PVR. Everything was very good and you can have your margarita or tequila shots on the side. Service was top notch. A must visit place if you want to try a different cuisine.

Sadia I.

Yelp
This place was simply just wow! The food was insanely delicious and the staff were very friendly. I highly recommend checking out this place! Absolutely adding this place as a must visit and we plan to come back at least one more time during our vacation!

Yelp
Best breakfast in Vallarta. The Benedicti Maximilian is made with poached salmon on English muffin with their Lucious cream of tarragon sauce. The Kaiserschwarm are delicious crepes soft in the middle and crispy along the edges with a raspberry sauce. Out of this world!

Yelp
Our waiter, Jesus, was excellent. We told him we were in a hurry and he made sure we got out of there on time. The food was excellent and so nicely presented and also very reasonably priced.

Yelp
We went for breakfast. The food is no where near as good as other local places. The service was very poor unfortunately. I have been here for dinner, and it was better. I won't eat breakfast here again, though.

Yelp
Austrian with a definitive Mexican twist. I had the crepes and some juice, near perfect. The waiter was a hoot.

Yelp
Puerto Vallarta has some wonderful restaurants! This is usually one of our favorites, but we were a bit disappointed last night. The new preparation of the foie gras was not very good. The marinade completely overwhelmed the flavor, My Leg of veal was absolutely fantastic. The meat was incredibly tender, and flavorful; the vegetables were perfect, and the sauce was outstanding. We also very much enjoyed the creamed spinach..... The most disappointing was the Rahmschnitzel. The pork medallions were cooked to the consistency of flip-flop soles, and the noodle side was just odd. This used to be one of my favorite dishes. Sometimes change is not for the best. As always, the service was excellent. Louis Took wonderful care of us. The ambience isvery nice and the prices are reasonable.

Yelp
Absolutely OUTSTANDING! Fantastic food- truly one of the most flavorful meals I have ever had!! Hole in the wall I would have never gone save for the friends who mentioned we must go Got the pan seared scallops with sweet potato purée and the ravioli with fennel Jaw dropping-ly great!!! Would come back in a heartbeat. Amazing attentive staff Great prices

Yelp
We didn't have to venture far from our hotel Playa Los Arcos to find breakfast this was next door. I almost didn't stop because it was so close and that would have been a mistake especially since it turns out it was there last day before they closed for 6 weeks. (The owners take a vacation every ten years) No Mexican coffee here since they are an expression bar but I settled for a cappuccino and the best egg white omelette on my entire trip which is hard to find in PVR.

Yelp
We always look forward to visiting PV + enjoying a meal at Kaiser Maximillian. We reserve Kaiser Maximillian as our last night in town special dinner after celebrating my birthday dinner there last year. The service provided by Luis is top notch. It's always great to see + catch up with Luis, so much so it feels like seeing an old friend. Food was even better than we remembered. We forgot what we ordered last year, and went with the ravioli appetizer, beef tenderloin with gorgonzola sauce and veal scalloppini. Coffee in this town is delicious, and I heartily enjoyed the coffee here with our meal and desserts.

Mary D.

Yelp
Service was great. Food was excellent. You can cut the veal with a fork. I would go back again.

Yelp
" Very Elegant & Romantic Restaurant " The Kaiser Maximilian Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta is an awesome place to go to enjoy a fancy, elegant, breakfast, lunch or dinner meal. Located just a couple of blocks away from the beach, this restaurant offers very High end dishes at a reasonable price. The staff is very friendly and nice. And the food is very good. They have outside seating also. If you are trying to impress someone then take them to the Kaiser Maximilian Restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

Heather K.

Yelp
A special place in Puerto Vallarta, very European, excellent service, exquisite cuisine. I had the chicken in a delicious cream sauce, substituted the pasta for the risotto, delicious. Their mexican coffee - YUM.

JL H.

Yelp
I came here and spoke with Jesus / Chewy to let him know that I wanted to have my anniversary dinner here, then asked if they could do a little something extra. He said yes, that they could do a desert that said happy anniversary so I booked the reservation. I'm not going to say that the meal is what led me to propose that night, though it definitely didn't hurt. My now fiance had the beef with gorganzola sauce, and I had the Veil with mushroom sauce. Both entrees were great. We both used the bread to wipe the plates clean because we were dressed nice and licking plates is usually looked down upon. Especially when your table faces the street. The presentation is great and the food is even better. You can see the pictures I posted of the meals and the desert. If you hate delicious food, stay away. If you want to go to a gem in PV, this us the place. Ask for Senor Chewy. Thank you amigo!

Greg F.

Yelp
Mmm Maximilian is great. Really never been disappointed. Classy and informal combined imho. Classy food.

Yelp
Satisfactory. Would NOT come back. Service (2/5). Was subpar. Started out nice enough with the German looking gentleman (owner?) taking us to the extended area of the restaurant. Our waiter was very fleeting, just present enough for us to not call for him. The food came out 10 minutes later which was surprising but I can understand prepping certain ingredients if only everything tasted accordingly. I think the waiter saved his charm for larger parties with bigger bils. The bread came after the dinner meao was already on the table. I ordered both, a beer and wine with dinner but barely had time to take a few sips before dinner was upon us. It seems like they are rushing to free the tables up for future patrons. Food (3/5). Veal scallopini - warm, average. Came with a side of potato and creamed spinach. Overall, not bad but the spinach a bit undercooked. Scallops - decent. Side of sweet potato mash - ok. Ambiance (3.5/5). Nice decor for Puerto Vallarta. White cloth table. Christmas music. Mood lighting and lively but not loud conversation (it IS loud in the main part of the restaurant) Price to Value: (2/5). Way over priced for what it offers. I've been to Austria and Germany and despite tempered expectations, quite underwhelmed. Better restaurants all around.

Yelp
Great cup of real coffee; sting and tasty! Also fun pastries and European goodies. I enjoy coffee and Kahlúa or anything coffee and sweet. Staff has always been exceptionally friendly and kind. Love people watching from here as well!

Randy B.

Yelp
Definitely one of the best fine dining restaurants in PV with very reasonable prices for the quality, taste and service. I thought it was going to be all Continental/European, but the menu is wide-ranging. This is a special dining experience with excellent tastes!

Yelp
Hidden gem! International cuisine! From Mexican Flan to Red Beet Soup to Escargot pie! Michelin quality food! Thank you Jesus and all the waiter's at Maximilian's especially the CHEF's!! Each course was incredibly delicious with great presentation. Friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable staff. Loved sitting outside with the strolling singers and great for people watching. White tablecloths with candles glowing and fresh flowers at each table. Easy access with plenty of seating inside and out. Charming atmosphere and great ambience for a romantic evening. Great dinner but I hear the breakfast menu is incredible too with Omelette's, Burrito's and Crepes! For our dinner we shared an authentic Caesar Salad that was crisp and fresh with just the right amount of dressing and had the most delicious Steak in Bernaise sauce with scalloped potatoes for our entree! The steak was cooked perfectly to our liking and loved loved the potatoes. Cocktails were great and the wine list was extensive with moderately priced wines! For dessert we had their mouth watering Flan with creme and raspberry sauce! All in all a very delicious meal and oh so satisfying to the palette! 5 Stars!! We loved it so much we went back the next night for the Flan and loved seeing our great waiter's who remembered us and welcomed us with open arms! Me quiero! Gracias! Gracias Jesus! Gracias Chef!

Yelp
Very authentic Austrian food! Very homey and hospitable atmosphere and the food is to die for. Nice change from the delicious Mexican food that is abundant in PV. I always get the schnitzel with cabbage and potatoes (request the mushroom gravy!) Again, it's unorthodox being in Mexico, eating European food, but after 3 years of my partner begging me to go, I caved in. And it was so worth it. Give it a try! You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Brandon J.

Yelp
Awesome restaurant!!! I believe it's attached or apart of a hotel in a busy area pretty touristy..I tried a lot of places around this place and by far I think this place is super cute! Down to the service and the food which was superb. Fancy Food for the right price in Puerto Vallarta!! Defiantly will go back! Scallops are the Bomb!
google avatar

Marco P.

Yelp
Food was ok. Friendly staff. A little bit too warm inside. The Jaiba torta de ad very good. Bread was a bit dried.
google avatar

Yelp
While exploring Puerto Vallarta on a very hot day, my wife and I were desperately seeking a decent looking restaurant that had air conditioning. As we passed down the sidewalk, this place caught our eye because of the fancy place settings and formally dressed staff. Fast forward. The air conditioning was wonderful, the staff was friendly and efficient, and the food was absolutely amazing. We travel all over the world and I don't know when we last had such a wonderful meal. It was a little higher priced than other restaurants in the area but because it's Mexico we still ended up under $100(US). I strongly recommend Kaiser Maximilian!
google avatar

Anthony L.

Yelp
The closest I've come to Authentic Austrian food since I live there. Very reasonable and decent wine list. Service was impeccable and very attentive, Thank you Oscar

Rena M.

Yelp
Most amazing restaurant I've ever eaten. This was an experience rather than dinner. Our server (Freddie) was absolutely wonderful. Each course (four courses) was palette pleasing. So much so, we returned the next night to ensure it wasn't a fluke. The second night was even more amazing. We had 6 of the entrees and every single dish was tastefully crafted with the perfect portion. The experience was completed with a complimentary chocolate/caramel mousse with sea salt that topped one of the best meals I've had. This hidden gem is absolutely worth the stop if you are in Puerto Vallarta. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant with beautiful service! Feels like you are in a European cafe! Waiters are so nice, warm and welcoming.

Yelp
What a surprise. While strolling around Puerto Vallarta, I trusted my hunch about this restaurant and was really surprised how amazing my meal was. Seared diver scallops, squash purée, served over a heavenly dressed apple salad, with pine nuts, crispy Serrano ham, and truffle sauce. Outstanding! To tear your clothes off good!

Barbara E.

Yelp
Love this restaurant! Visited a couple of weeks ago during restaurant week. The three course meal was amazing. The duck tacos, Chile poblano soup and red snapper were amazing! The desserts were all yummy as well. Went back the next day for lunch. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. Can't wait to go back! I've been craving it since we left!!
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Nice little hidden gem. We went for breakfast two days in a row. The Chilaquiles are very tasty and they also have egg whites if needed. Handmade butter, yummy coffee and fresh juice.
google avatar

Keith B.

Yelp
Good food and service. We were a party of 4 with a reservation and were seated outside promptly. The thing that struck me was the wine list. It was very affordable. There were a few German/Austrian wines available, but mostly Mexican and wines from the U.S. Since the sidewalk is a public area, you can expect vendors to stroll and offer trinkets for sale during your meal if you sit there. A simple 'no thank you' and they will move on. We listened to (and tipped) a couple of music groups busking for tips. They were actually pretty good musicians. The food was better than average; about what you would expect European food in Mexico.
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
Great service. I felt like I was not n Europe, dining at the high class restaurant . Friendly and professional waters. We had onion soup, cabbage soup and scallops and combination of chicken, fish and shrimp. Everything was delicious. We had pecan tart for desert. O my god!!!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
To be honest, this location is a 3 1/2, but they don't offer that on this, and I really don't feel they deserve before. We went on a Friday evening, wasn't too busy, and service was good. They do have fans for the outdoor seating, which makes it nice. They were running a chef special, with lotta restaurants in town, which made it really nice. Unfortunately, I found the prices extremely high, for what you were getting. My husband was drinking a Sabe on Blanc, and they were charging $10 a glass for it. Which is double with some of the places nearby are charging. My dish was a pounded beef, which was good, but not a very large portion for the price. My husband had a special with fish, that was very expensive. The overall bill was in excess of $50. There are many places within walking distance, and their prices are much better for a better experience . I do understand this is a local institution, they need to up their game. To many other players in town that are really knocking it out of the park.
google avatar

Gary K.

Yelp
We have been walking by KM for six years, despite recommendations of friends. We finally took their advice. The food was very good, (leg of veal and beef short ribs) as was the service. It can be a little loud if you sit street side, so be prepared for that. Plenty of indoor seating is available. This is definitely a place to go when you need a break from the usual Mexican fare.
google avatar

Pat R.

Yelp
Tasty breakfast, excellent coffee and so far I can tell authentic Austrian and German food. Good location in the old town of Puerto Vallarta. Only but huge minus point, they add automatically a service charge of over 20 % on the bill. When we asked about the hefty service charge, they told us: "Oh, you don't have to pay it", but of course it makes you feel uncomfortable. I usually like to give a generous tip, but don't like to be pushed. As the Austrian says: Rutscht mir den Buckel runter!

Deanna D.

Yelp
We travel annually to Vallarta and are completely in love with Old Town's people, charm and food! This year, after walking by it many times in the past we ventured in to Kaiser Maximilian and loved it! The food was amazing, the service beyond .... thank you Luis! Will definitely be back next October!

Jim L.

Yelp
Outstanding food and service. We've been coming here for more than 10 years, and usually make it here once a week. My wife loves the chicken rosemary, she says it's always consistently good, with fresh vegetables based on their availability. Their schnitzel and zwiebel roastbraten are authentic...great people watching on the street.

Yelp
THE best dinner I had in our recent two-week stay! The beef tenderloin, cooked to perfection, topped with a fabulous bernaise sauce, veggies, and out of this world scalloped potatoes was food 'orgasmic'! Seriously, the best I've had in years! The service and presentation was exceptional, too. Definitely a 'must return' next time I'm in PV! Thank you!
