This is a 700 year old hotel. Inside there are thousands of curios in every conceivable nook and cranny. The location is excellent, right in the centre of town. Rooms large and clean. Our room at the front meant we heard the church bells but they really didn't bother us. |Breakfast is a cold buffet and is fine. At no extra cost there is safe private parking at the rear of hotel.||It is cash only... which is really unusual... they need to let you know that in and... but it is very reasonable cost.

I was so looking forward to staying at this property as it is authentic, traditional old Germany but a few things let it down and not all was the hoteliers fault. We arrived early afternoon and the hotel was in darkness and no sign of any staff, it took us a while to locate the manager.||We were told if we needed anything just to ask but we rarely saw any staff around except at breakfast. Our room was large with an excellent shower although we had some difficulty operating it as it was very hi tech! Our room looked out on to the cathedral and yes we did hear the church bells but that wasn’t a problem, quite comforting really. ||The breakfasts were excellent although most mornings we seemed to be the only guests there. The Ukrainian lady who served us was lovely and looked after us well. ||When we spoke to the manager he told us that he had a staff shortage partly due to Covid restrictions and therefore certain amenities at the hotel weren’t available. I was disappointed that the advertised beer cellar downstairs was closed and that we didn’t have any room service. ||We were in Nordlingen for 4 nights and found that quite a lot of places were closed due to Covid and staff shortages which is a great shame.||I just feel that the management have given up on this hotel. It was in dire need of some decoration and repair. It just felt very unloved.

We happened upon this hotel when our Airbnb fell through last minute, and we needed a place to stay. We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel staff was extremely nice, helpful & had rooms for us! Yes, it is in a very old, historic building and the walls are paper-thin. However, the location is amazing - right in the center of Nordlingen, and we found our rooms to be very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are also nicely updated & clean. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet that is served every morning - delicious!! (They do not take credit cards, but we were fine with that.)||||We loved this little Bavarian town & would stay here again! We arrived in Nordlingen by train, and it was an easy walk to this hotel in the center of town. (We had backpacks, so were not hauling luggage.)||||Restaurants we loved included the Cafe Radlos (awesome Italian!) and Sixenbrau-Stuble (delicious authentic Bavarian food with vegetarian options!!). Also, be sure to check out the wonderful farmer's markets on one side of town, with fresh produce, breads, cheeses, sandwiches, etc. on most mornings.

This hotel has been around since 1330's which is amazing in itself! We loved the old, quirky building with all the funky old-school decor & artifacts. Some walls & staircases appear crooked and that just added to the charm for me. The bathroom was fresh and newly done up. A decent breakfast is served. The staff are very pleasant and helpful with information & recommendations on things to do around the small old town. There is free parking available on the premises and several good places to eat very close by.

The hotel is perfectly located and the room was very typical old style German, very beautiful. Fresh renovated bathroom. ||The owner was very helpful with everything, and helped us book a lovely dinner restaurant nearby. Really recommend to stay here! Also very good parking which felt like a very safe spot for our car.

We were unlucky to arrive in Nordlingen on a weekend and with a festival at the center of the town, so we could not reach the hotel by car and had to park overnight in an underground car park for E 8.50. If we had knowledge of this in advance we would have avoided going around the narrow cobblestone street in a big car for 30 minutes swearing at the SatNav.||Back to the hotel and some stupid remarks made by peoples on reviews.||The building is very old so it's no surprise that the hotel is old. If you take away the creaking you take away the charm. St.-Georgs-Kirche is very closed so one has to expect to be able to hear the sound of the bells. Just investigate all this before hand next time.||Our room was great, very clean, quiet and big. The bathroom even better, very modern and with a shower to die for. As the restaurant was closed due to the festival the gentlemen(owner?) in reception offered to book us in a near by restaurant, which was very good.||Breakfast was excellent with a good variety of food.||Yes, I did hear the bell a couple of times during the night, but up to seven in the morning they are very muted and to tell the truth the sound was very comforting.||All in all I would use this hotel again. Decoration may not be to everybody tastes, but then what is?

We booked it because of the location - which was absolutely fantastic, and because the photos in Booking.com showed it to have a lovely terrace bar at the front on the marketplace - which turned out just to be a car park now. ||||Everything seemed to be a bit run down - there was no sign of any business in the restaurant or in the cellar bar - not a single customer as far as we could see. The exterior, though pretty and historical was in need of some renovation. We wondered if it was about to close for the summer, or even permanently. Staff were pleasant and friendly though.||||The room was nice and clean but the decor was a bit over the top Bavarian kitsch - painted furniture including a four poster bed, but it looked like it was quite modern stuff made to look old. Nice to have a mini bar in the room, pity it was empty, although there was some complimentary water provided||. ||Shower was almost unusable being over a really high sided bath, with no grab rail and a slippery base.||||Breakfast was reasonable, with quite a good selection of cheap meats, cheese , cereals etc.(If you get down early enough, we were quite late the first morning and there was very little left.) We felt very cheated that the breakfast was "included in the room price" but turned out to be itemised in the bill at 6.50 euros per person - we only really wanted coffee and a roll, and would have preferred to pay 26 euros less on the total bill for our two night stay.||||Although right in the centre of the town it was surprisingly quiet; very little traffic noise, but being right next to the church, and with several others nearby, you do have to like the sound of bells at all hours.

While we were in Germany we decided to stay at the Kaiser Hotel Sonne to check out the city of Nordlingen. We had such amazing hotels for the week we had been in Germany already and was very excited as we pulled up to this hotel. The outside is the only good thing about this place. The girl that checked us in was not nice and informed us that despite it being on our confirmation they could not take credit cards. We explained we didn’t have cash and she told us we would have to find a bank. We decided ok let’s at least see the room. We treaked up the three flights of stairs, past the very creepy clown dolls that only revival something out of a Stephen King’s novel to our room. When we opened our door we were greeted with something that looked worse then a youth hostel room. With dirty floors and paint chipping we quickly decided we could not stay the night. We then made the trip back the crooked, creaky steps and informed the same girl we were not staying. Thank goodness Booking.com came to our rescue and helped us cancel this reservation. Do yourself a favor DO NOT STAY HERE. They run a scam with the credit card and they probably get away with it more often then not.
