I was hoping for more. The service was great, the menu had enough variety, and the ambience was nice. The food was only mediocre. The sauerkraut was probably the best dish. Rays salad was also good. The German potatoes had no onion, too much cornstarch, and were too sweet without enough tang. I’m not sure what’s special about the ribs, they were somewhat dry, far from fall off the bone, and the sauce is something along the way of a canes sauce (mayo, ketchup, and some seasoning). The Kiev was over fried and burger was nothing special. This place could be so much more, but it’s all about the food—nowhere near as good as the German restaurants in the twin cities… oh and the bathrooms are in serious need of a remodel.

Staff was extremely kind! Highly recommend the smoked pork chop! The food was delicious and priced decently. Loved the modern but old retro feel. Huge shoutout to the cooks in the back on the speed of cooking and flavor!

Excellent all the way around! Enjoyed a lovely dining experience. Katie, our server, was the absolute best; attentive, super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.

When in New Ulm, one must eat German food!! We visited from the Twin Cities and decided to have dinner here. Fantastic service and great food! Best Sauerkraut I have ever tasted and fall-off-the-bone ribs!! 100% would eat there again!!

Google
Wienerschnitzel was great really and so was the combo platter pink squirrel 🐿️ was lots of fun too mmm

Google
The food was good, but there were fewer German dishes offered than I'd hoped considering the name on the front of the building, so that was disappointing. Still, the recipes seemed like old-school family recipes and everyone really liked that. The ribs, which are their specialty and not usually something I would normally order, were very good. The atmosphere is outstanding- a lot of history to the place, and the service was very friendly.

We stopped on our way home from a camping trip. Very good food and a chance to try German food. My husband loved the ribs and I got the beer battered cod which was also very yummy! The fries were very good, the fried green bean appetizer was super good, but I think my favorite was the spatzle (the gravy was very salty, but I liked that). Very nice staff. They were kind even though they seemed a little tired and busy.

Google
Ever since Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit closed I've been searching for great German food. Unfortunately, this place doesn't quite git the bill. The food was good, not great. The schnitzel was tasty but the sausages were nothing special. I did enjoy my beer cheese soup and the sided salad is impressively large. If I come here again, I'll try something that's not on the German menu.

Yelp
My mother worked there in the'70s. Saturday mornings I would come in and help set tables and eat crackers. I love their ribs and the sauce that they have. You can't go wrong with any of their German foods either.

Frank S.

Yelp
Overall, very disappointed with the quality of the food and service. I had creamy saurkraut soup, which was not that good. The entree was Jaiger Snitzel, which was bland and barely warm. The sauce tasted like cheap, thick soup. The red cabbage was OK and the German potatoe salad was too sweet. My wife had saurekraut which tasted mushy. Her pretzel appetitzer was good. The service was slow with limited check ins. Also, why do they play Dean Martin and CW music, in a German restaurant? We will not return.

Yelp
Wunderbar! That's the extent of my German language skills. But I'm uber good at enjoying German foods & beer! We shared an entree to get a sample of everything we wanted to try & we were not disappointed! Nearby Schells Firebrick paired well with the rich interesting food. The Ray's salad was different but good!

Yelp
I was here before under other ownership and wasn't impressed. But the new owners have definitely improved this restaurant. We love stopping here on a day trip. Good German food. The German potato salad is delicious and so is the red cabbage. The bratwurst is great.

Yelp
To restaurant owners June 4, 2025 - 5:28 PM We were really looking forward to a memorable German meal, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. The $35.04 German Sampler simply didn't deliver in value or quality. * The two-bone rib portion was meager and underwhelming. * The potato salad was marginal at best with no bacon and served in a small portion. * The two brats were bland and offered nothing memorable. * The sauerkraut was fine--but it's hard to go wrong with sauerkraut. * Red cabbage, small portions * The Wienerschnitzel, a $4.25 add-on, was just average and not worth the extra cost. Overall, this was a disappointing meal. We expected hearty, flavorful German fare but left unsatisfied. In hindsight, we should've gone with the Reuben and two brats with kraut instead. We won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Yelp
I do not get the bad reviews of Kaiserhoff, we really liked our dinner here! This restaurant is totally old school; we were in town from the Cities for Shell's Oktoberfest, and we all wanted German food for dinner afterwards. Despite being super busy, we got in pretty quickly. Service was a tad bit slow, but that was to be expected because of how packed the restaurant was. The food was pretty dang good! I got a jaeger schnitzel and my wife got the ribs. The schnitzel was tasty (but could have used a bit more sauce) and the ribs were TO DIE FOR amazing, I would definitely get them next time. The German soup was also really good. Our daughter had a side of spaetzle, which she really liked. Kaiserhoff is definitely family-friendly and accomodating of children, and the inside is very old-world cozy. We love it here and will definitely be back. There is one negative thing I do have to report: the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. It looked like it had not been cleaned in weeks and needed almost a complete remodel to bring it up to standard. I was shocked by this as the rest of the restaurant is so pleasant. All in all, aside from the bathroom, a must visit in New Ulm!

Yelp
I was in town visiting some family, and apparently this is The place to go to for a nice dinner. We drove to downtown New Ulm, checked out the evening cuckoo clock show, and got seated right at reservation time. They served 1919 Root Beer, which was all I needed, so while I downed about three mugs of that, I had my meal. The main thing I got was the.. Kaiserhoff German Sampler (Kaiserhoff Ribs, Landjaeger, Bratwurst, red cabbage, German potato salad, sauerkraut, and bread). Dear lord, these ribs. Fall off the bone, and surrounded in some sort of sauce-based crust that had some amazing crunch around those moist, succulent ribs. The two sausages were also good. If you like sausages, you'll get a kick out of these two very different flavors and textures. Good stuff. And the potato salad, very different from anything I've ever had before, ooey and gooey, no texture really, but acidic, which was nice compared to the meaty ribs and sausages. I also got to try the Wiener Schnitzel (Breaded veal complimented with red cabbage) (Served with spaetzles with gravy and coleslaw). Oooh I loved this. Breaded perfectly, very crunchy. Cooked perfectly, not dry at all. And spaetzle is like my favorite side dish. Slathered with grazy, like schnitzel and dumplings. What a meal. Overall, this was a lovely meal in a lovely little town. I would come back and hope I do one day.

Yelp
We decided to take a quick day trip and head to New Ulm for some German food and beer. This place was recommended as a must stop for their German fare so we decided to stop in while on the main drag. This place definately gives off 1970's supper club vibes. Not much has changed since then but that is not always a bad thing. It all depends if the food is good. We decided to try a few different things and ordered the German Sampler and Schnitzel al a Holstein. I have to tell you, this was some great Midwest German food. The suggestions were spot on. The red cabbage and sauerkraut were both great and they went well with all of the meats and sausages that we ordered. Their ribs, which they are famous for, were tender and fall off the bone moist. The BBQ sauce that was served with them was something entirely different and unique which amplified the experience. Even the addition of breadsticks and salad with homemade dressing brought home the supper club feel. We left stuffed and satisfied. My only gripe about this place was that the staff had a real "chicken with its head cut off" vibe. Lots of running around aimessly. Our table was forgotten after we were seated and we had to flag a waitress down to get service after waiting over 15 minutes. Easy mistake and the food was good so it was forgivable. Definitely worth a stop in.

Yelp
This restaurant is fantastic. We sat at the bar and had an amazing meal. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
We drove 3 hours out of our way to go to New Ulm and visit Schells. The same day we ate at Kaiserhoff and all I have to say is DAMN THAT WAS GOOD. I was joking the next day that we should drive back to see if they had brunch.

Tom P.

Yelp
Tremendous German food and ambience in the most Germanic town in the Midwest. Enjoyed the schnitzel most of all.

Yelp
Food and service was amazing! Like that there are booths and lots of different rooms. Highly recommend

Yelp
We were drawn in by the exterior & the promise of the best German food in [a very German] town. This place hasn't been updated any time recently, & that's not a complaint, it's a compliment. The barkeep greeted us on entry & we liked her right off the bat. There was also an energetic server buzzing around, cheerfully & frequently addressing her tables, greeting regulars & introducing herself to visitors. Unfortunately, we didn't have her. Our server was working the main dining room & her only table in the bar area was ours. She wasn't neglectful & went through the motions. Still, I found myself envious of the other guests, which were being given tips [ie: that syrup carafe is actually our famous rib sauce, which goes great on our also famous kraut balls!], while we got "everything still ok?" Ok sums it up well. While they had fabulously tangy red cabbage & a lovely kraut soup, the rest was just ok. The kraut was mild & I'm gonna expect at least 3 varieties of mustard to choose from for sausage. The price wasn't horrible but is wasn't a great deal either. I've had better for less. In anerage was an average experience - 3 stars

Yelp
Food was incredible! Service was very helpful and kind. Fried Pickles 10/10 Sauerkraut Balls 8/10 Ribs 10/10 Spatzel 10/10 Soup 9/10 Looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
How does this dump stay in business? The German potato salad was a mushy bowl of syrupy potatoes (?). It tasted more like applesauce. I make better without trying. The red cabbage was sweet and vinegary. I thought maybe they tried to make kraut, but it smelled so bad, it made me nauseated to have it on the table. The schnitzel was too tough to cut, but edible (barely) with some salt. The mushroom gravy looked good, but it had no flavor. Honestly, the hot breadstick was the only thing worth eating! Others had the ribs. The portion was tiny for the price, but they were tender. The sauce looks odd. I think it the Carolina mustard type and Kaiserhoff is very proud of it. If you go, don't say I didn't warn you, enjoy the dark, dingy 1970's vibe. The service will be good. Order extra breadsticks!

Yelp
True German food and an authentic experience. Could not recommend this more. My Mom had the dumpling soup, I had a size of spatzel, and my husband had a sampler platter which was amazing.

Karl H.

Yelp
We ate there Saturday on vacation. Service was great, friendly, informative. Prices very good, German restaurant and food. We had a combo platter and wienerschnitzel, very good and good size portions.

Yelp
I wasn't in the mood for German food, so I went with the ribs & shrimp. The potato was way overcooked; shrimp were very good and I guess the best way to describe the ribs is that it's an acquired taste. Service was good, and the decor was a throw back to the 70's.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
The german sampler plate! It was a good mix of everything. There's surprise pork inside the sauerkraut which was good. The sausages were tasty. The ribs fell off the bone. The bbq sauce was a weird mix of only what i can only describe as a mix of mayo and ketchup.
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
We had an ok meal here. It could've been better, it could've been worse. I wasn't feeling German food so I had the fried shrimp meal with salad and a baked potato. It was good and I had plenty of food. My husband had the breaded tenderloin meal. He said it was all right. My vegetarian teen had the only salad on the menu. He didn't love it. Not a lot of vegetarian options but we didn't choose this restaurant, a family member did. They did have a big menu. I think they also have pizza. And it's a huge restaurant. And our waitress was very nice and helpful.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We planned a day trip on our Harleys specifically for this place and the sauerkraut balls. We were so excited! If I could go back and tell my little group... turn around; go to White Castle instead. The meal started off with a small brown something in friend 2's soda. We think it may have been a bug. He sent it back and stuck with water. We should have ran right then and there. The sauerkraut balls. *insert gagging here* The outside looked delicious. The inside? Mush. Nothing inside this ball of mucous resembled sauerkraut. It had a distinct taste of actual vomit to me (my 2 companions disagreed, but they hated them too). Me and friend 1 played it safe and order fried mushrooms and fried cauliflower after the nasty vomit balls and bug soda. Friend 2 had the German sampler. How can you screw up fried mushrooms/cauliflower; typical bar food, right? Well, this place can. The cauliflower was edible, but the mushrooms were over-fried on the outside and really wet and undercooked on the inside. Friend and I each tried one and couldn't choke down another. Friend 2 took 1-2 bites of everything on the German Sampler and that was enough for him. Friend 1 and I tried a small fork tip of each of his items and that was more than enough. The 2 sausages were probably from the Walmart clearance freezer. Dry and tasted like cardboard. The ribs may have been decent when they first cooked them 3 days ago. Their "special" BBQ sauce I suspect is just ketchup and mayo mixed together. The red cabbage is nothing but vinegar and you really shouldn't have more than 1 tiny bite. The potato salad seems to have had an entire 5 pound bag of sugar mixed in it. The mushy warm "sauerkraut" under the Walmart meat didn't look anything akin to kraut. I refused to even taste it after the reactions from my friends small bites. We all ate some hard candy friend 1 carries on her bike to get the taste out of our mouths immediately after leaving. Bonus: There were actual German tourists at the table next to us. They left the same time we did with lots of food left on their plates. Outside, I asked what they thought of the food. They all chuckled and looked at each other and politely said, "That's not German food. It was not good." The waitress was friendly and nice. I did give her a decent tip. It's not her fault the recipes were given to the place from Helen Kellers Book of Nursing Home Food.

M B.

Yelp
What a fun find! Three of us tried the German dishes and our less adventurous friend had a cod basket. Schnitzel was crispy and good. We also liked the kraut and spaetzle. This spaetzle was just boiled - at other places they boil, then fry in butter. Very helpful staff. Interesting paintings and woodwork. Glad we stopped! It wasn't busy at lunchtime.

Yelp
We stopped here after spending the afternoon at Schell's Brewery. It was fun. A quaint, what appears to be, family owned restaurant. Mixed reviews on the food, but mine was great! I got the ribs and they were amazing. This place is old school - like stepping back in time! Stop in if you get the chance and like German food!

Yelp
We were told if we go to New Ulm, we had to eat here. So we did! We had a few apps at cocktail hour elsewhere, so weren't super hungry but wanted to get the full German town experience. The ambience was cool--besides the few random Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe posters that were definitely out of place, the German atmosphere and family-owned signs and photos gave it a homey feel. We loved that each booth had a free jukebox at it with awesome classic hits! That was definitely the best part. We shared the Kaiserhoff German Sampler which ended up being enough for us four. We added a Ray's Salad, which was underwhelming and too soaked in Western dressing for me. The ribs on the platter were smothered in a secret Thousand Island/hot sauce combo sauce that was surprisingly good! The sausages were delicious, and the potato salad and sauerkraut were authentic and well done. German food isn't my favorite but this was a good representation of it! They also have a cool mural in the front room and another free jukebox with more songs by the bar. Come for the experience, stay for the John Denver songs!

Yelp
I used to come here with my grandparents when I visited NU. So many good memories. Great food (you must try the ribs). With an awesome German feel to the restaurant. The rest of this review is for some thing they did recently. My grandparents have been regulars here for decades. My grandma passed away years ago while my grandpa passed away recently. after the funeral they accommodated our large family of over 50 people with an amazing dining experience. The food was so delicious. But the staff topped themselves - they reserved a table for my deceased grandparents and set roses from the funeral home on the table. My grandparents got to have dinner there one last time. Thank you.

Yelp
This is a restaurant frozen in time. The 50s? It was clean, the waitress was efficient and friendly. We got our food fast. I went there for the German food and enjoyed my Wienerschnitzel. Everyone else went for more American things, my kids enjoyed their burgers. And this is not the cheapest place you could go either, although my $17 meal did include a spaetzel, gravy, and a red cabbage salad.

Juanita S.

Yelp
Tired and run down! Staff was very friendly. Food was average. Bathrooms smelled too much of disinfectant and soap dispenser was lying on counter.
google avatar

Yelp
This place used to be one my favorite places in the area. Not anymore, VERY SAD. my egg on my schnitzel was raw(almost liquid) when came out, ask for it be cooked more, and it came out hard, over done the second time. My schnitzel and my friend's schnitzel was WAY overcooked. My girlfriend ribs where, hard as a rock. Needed a saw to cut them. My mom liked the sauerkraut and rye bread that was about it, you get a gold star.

Yelp
My family and I tried this place for the first time recently, and it was absolutely delicious! The staff and management were attentive and friendly. Service and food was great!

Ves S.

Yelp
Service and staff is great. Food is just ok. Don't bother with the salad it's a full bowl of iceberg lettuce, potato salad tastes like pure sugar, however schnitzel was great!

Yelp
OLD SCHOOL. We definitely enjoyed ourselves at the Kaiserhoff. That said, for better or worse, it is obviously a place that operates on tradition, not innovation. I was hoping for a more convivial atmosphere, but it was very slow and quiet on a Sunday evening. Thankfully there was a large table (including baby) directly behind ours to give the room some life. Otherwise there were only two other twosomes in the large dining room. Our waitress Katie was wonderfully sunny and helpful. With such a large menu, I struggled to find the right thing; I bet that if I ate here ten times in a row I would find some stuff really good and some not so good, so I was trying to find the "bingo" among it all. I ended up choosing a sampler. The sausages--landjaeger and bratwurst--were very good, but the sides were disappointing. The red cabbage was good, the sauerkraut fine, and the german potato salad very bland. I also ordered a fried cauliflower appetizer and applied the "famous" house barbecue sauce. It was creamy and orange and tasted nothing like any traditional barbecue sauce. It was okay, but rather silly to call it barbecue sauce.

Yelp
Love this place. Great food, the ribs are scrumptious, Rays salad is wunderbar and alles schmecht gut! As well the service is fantastische!

Yelp
We went to New Ulm after seeing the ads in German Life. What a disappointment. Go to Stillwater instead, better German food too. First of all, we learned a valuable lesson: If you see no German beer on the menu, and then as a fallback, ask for German wine and they have none, run, do not walk to nearest exit. As their ad says, they have Wiener Schnitzel, but they do not, said they could not get veal, so why on the menu? Got Schwerin Schnitzel instead. Not good, heavily breaded and the pork was not tender. The Red Cabbage tasted of nothing but vinegar, and the soup had five times the salt. Spätzle was tasteless to boot. No one thought their food was good either. The dessert had to be seen to believe. We ordered Apfelstrudel, and what we got was a Circle K Danish with a caramel sauce drizzled over it, we think. It was a square, not a slice, apple in the middle, lots of white frosting, no raisins nothing like a true strudel. The place was appointed nicely and perhaps a previous owner was really a German, but these folks must never had a real German meal. Notice the dates of the two revues on the right, something has changed this place and we were a party of seven, so just the chance of one bad meal did not exist. w

Yelp
I think the problem my friend and I had here was maybe we had higher expectations. We wanted to try something unique to New Ulm during our stop here and agreed on Veigel's Kaiserhoff. We were confused from the start by the idea of German barbecue. Our curiosity may be why we ultimately added it to our agenda for the day. Upon entering, I got more of a sad feeling than a welcoming feeling. Maybe because we were there for lunch on a rainy Tuesday and Kaiserhoff is busier for dinner service. But for the size of it, the place was empty. Our waitress was friendly and helpful with questions about the menu. We both ordered the German Sampler (Kaiserhoff ribs, landjaeger, bratwurst, red cabbage, German Potato salad, sauerkraut and bread) and added a Ray's Salad. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs as we both struggled to clean our plates. It ended in a draw with neither of us able to finish our full meal. So yes, I would definitely recommend the German sampler as a meal for two. The food was good, portions were huge. Their ribs are advertised as a special cut with their own BBQ sauce. We determined the BBQ sauce was basically a thousand island dressing. The Ray's Salad is nothing special, iceberg lettuce with croutons, bacon and what I'm pretty sure was that same BBQ sauce. I finished my brat and sausage and I enjoyed the sides, too, but just couldn't finish them. Food was satisfying but the wait seemed long considering there were not many patrons. Average German options with a decor to match. I'm not entirely sure I'd return but if I did I would order something different from the German specialties section of the menu. Maybe it's a regional thing I just didn't get.

Yelp
Started with a sweet Old Fashioned- top notch. We both had the chicken spaetzle soup which was incredible. Next up, breadsticks, wow, they were incredible. I had the ribs and shrimp. Loved it. Wife had the walleye and she loved it.

Yelp
With apologies to my mother, who said "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".... In this case, I have to do a review. Our entire group of 18 grew up in the area and knew for this occasion this was the place to go. The German experience and food was the draw. The food is why it is unlikely we will ever return for a meal. (They still have an epic style bar you know, so there is that draw. Schell's and Grain Belt are brewed in New Ulm and is served here.) You can read descriptions of the foods in other reviews: The Sampler, the ribs, the Wiener schnitzel, Ray's salad. We were there on a Monday nite. Perhaps they prepare fresh for the Thur - Saturday crowd. The Potato salad had no sliced potatoes structure, they were mashed potato consistency, the sauerkraut was not crisp, it was soft and mushy, the beet salad disappointing as well. The ribs. I love pork spareribs. Everywhere. These were overcooked and dry. Chewy and not meaty. Some said way too fatty, vs meaty. Everyone can have a bad day. This had to be it. Not one of the 18 meals had a good review from any of us. It was consistent across the board from sampler to Schnitzel.... Our German cousins invited us to Milwaukee for some real German cuisine.....Ouch. On the positive side, the service was good. Nice, if spartan decor. Real memories for our family. Unfortunately the food was not acceptable. Come on Kaiserhoff! Getter together!

Yelp
Came to New Ulm for a fall getaway and it happened to be Octoberfest weekend. This place was recommended even though Yelp reviews aren't great. We risked it anyway with the potential crowd and they definitely didn't disappoint!! Wonderful food, great, friendly service, and a cool atmosphere. I had the traditional German ribs & broiled shrimp, hubby had jaeger schnitzel. Drinks were made well.

Yelp
Lacks social distancing. They seem to pack everyone into a single area. Service was good. Food was fairly good but not great. Will try elsewhere next time.

Yelp
Our party of 6 settled in for a traditional German dining experience during a lovely Octoberfest weekend. After a round of expertly prepared cocktails (I personally enjoyed a house Brandy on the rocks), we decided to begin the culinary journey with the Famous Sauerkraut Balls (FSB). The FSB are heralded a "a must for sauerkraut lovers"; we didn't find them to be that exactly. The fried morsels were crispy and golden brown on the outside with a filling akin to a moist crab cake - perhaps reaching the maximum level of moistness possible. This starter was served a small tub of tangy (and impressively orange) Ray's Sauce for dipping. Another round of cocktails was presented by our experienced and jovial server. This round was local Schell's Octoberfest beer. Ja vohl! We placed our orders next and received strong recommendations for ribs. Our server convincingly detailed their preparation and most of the table bought what our server was selling! The loin cut was a clear draw as was the homemade BBQ sauce our server raved about. Entrees are served with a salad and side dish. The available side dishes include the standard potato options but showcased German potato salad and spätzle - and it was a mix between the two around the table. When asked for recommendations on salad, our server definitively said that Ray's Salad was the only way to go here. Seeing as she hadn't steered us wrong all evening - we all agreed the upcharge was well worth it. For those who haven't yet sampled Ray's unique lettuce treat, I'll break it down. First, let's talk Baco's - if you are one of the people that thought Baco's went away with the Reagan administration - you'd be wrong. The Ray's Salad consists of finely chopped iceberg, a generous scoop or two of the imitation bacon treat, and is finished with the now ubiquitous Ray's Sauce. What was most impressive was the fact that each individual piece of lettuce was completely covered in the orange dressing. That's the attention to detail this place is known for. *Bonus #1: Ray's Salads are hand prepared by your server! *Bonus #2: Ray's Salads are served with a hot hot breadstick! With table talk growing in intensity about the culinary experience unfolding in front of our eyes, our sextet graduated to beverage spread of house red wine, scotch, and more ice cold lagers. We certainly were becoming the focal point amongst that evening's diners. Entree time! Ribs, ribs, and more ribs. As the meat was wheeled out; you literally had to pick our party's jaws off the table. The mutual amazement began with the familiar scent of Ray's Sauce (referred to as BBQ Sauce when applied to ribs) and deepened with the sight of the ribs themselves; none of us had considered that ribs can take on a hue reminiscent of a vibrant autumn sunset. If you want to try ribs slathered with salad dressing and flame grilled until tender - this is your place. The meat had a tenderness only reachable through vigilant basting with Ray's bittersweet creation. I will admit to not being too impressed with the potato salad. The generous portion of dumplings was suspended in a solution of simple syrup and vinegar (presumably). I didn't try the potato salad with Ray's Sauce (rookie mistake); however, I could have - we were presented with a breakfast syrup crock filled to the brim with Ray's Sauce. We didn't leave room for dessert. Summary: + Service and ambiance + Portion size (no one finished any course) + Liquor selection + Ray's Sauce! + Reasonable pricing + Temperature of breadsticks - The Potato salad-meister was off their game that night

Yelp
It is heart wrenching to write this review. This place used to be wonderful. After the past 3 visits it's a no go now. Ribs are made in Advance, days in advance taste old, like they had been stored in open containers in refrigerator. Dumpling was undercooked and was a strange gray goo. Asked for one cooked they returned with same thing. It was scary, not even the right color. They charged us .75 cents for a second piece of bread. When paying 15.00 for a meal and you get the butt of the loaf of bread you think they could include a second piece of bread. We were told it's because it's from bakery. (Lol) how sad... to top it off we both felt sick after eating what we did eat. It was terrible.

Yelp
If you remotely enjoy German cuisine this is a must! Amazing food- try the sauerkraut balls and soup. All the food was excellent, great environment and service. Our waitress was amazing and friendly. Oddly enough they sell great barbecue sauce. HIGHLY recommend!!!

Yelp
First I want to say I'm super empathetic to the fact that restaurants are struggling right now trying to find workers. They are completely overwhelmed and I absolutely show grace when presented a situation like this while eating out. However all that doesn't constitute being downright rude and disengaging. We stopped here for lunch on Saturday the 1st and as soon as we walked in the bartender who was ten feet away didn't acknowledge us even though he looked at us. There was a wait to be seated sign so we just stood there as people lined up behind us out the door. We stood there for ten minutes without a "hey we will be right with ya, or sorry guys we are running behind it's just a short wait"! but nothing. Two waitresses (one who was very rude in her mannerisms) like we were in her way walked right by us without saying a word. The people behind us left. The bartender just went about his business chatting with the 4 people who were at the bar. Finally my husband approached him very nicely and said "Hey just wondering do we seat ourselves? Because we haven't even been acknowledged yet?" and he bartender said "No, you need to wait, we only have twowaitresses on staff and we are busy." no apology or nothing. Again, I am empathetic to the fact they were probably understaffed but they need to work on at least acknowledging people who walk through the door. We left like the folks behind us but a bummer because I was excited to treat my family to a New Ulm German experience.

Yelp
Kaiserhoff is where one's referred to for German food in New Ulm, although by their banners and advertisements, they'd rather be known for their barbecue ribs. The place is full of paintings and murals depicting scenes of Germany. The menu has a German section, so that's what we ordered from. We were their only customers mid afternoon on a weekday, so service was attentive. The first item on their menu is wiener schnitzel, and we both made it our choice, with a salad as the side. The salad was pretty plain - some lettuce with a cucumber slice and cherry tomato with oil and vinegar on the side. Dark rye bread also was brought, and this was the best part of the meal. There must be a bakery nearby that knows how to bake, as it was the freshest and most tasty rye bread I've ever had. The wiener schnitzel was the real deal - as you cut into it, the juices ran out. The red cabbage was not too vinegary like a lot of others cook it; their's was mellow. I didn't like their style of spätzle though; too dumpling based. If anything, just being here for the decor will make you feel a little like in Germany.

Yelp
My friend and I were referred to this restaurant after visiting Schell's and requesting a good German restaurant. I honestly have never had authentic German food, so please note that I do not have any experience with the authenticity of my meal. I am writing this based on the edibility of the food, so take it for what it is worth. I didn't have a problem with this place as the food went down, stayed down, and didn't taste bad at all. The drinks also came to me faster than any other place I have ever visited. I ordered the weiner schnitzel with the initial side choice of German potato salad. Due to the fact that I am a black woman, I cannot honestly comment on the taste or quality of the potato salad as it was not anywhere near what I was expecting (yes, I have always know it was served hot, but I was expecting a hot version of what I am used to). Suffice it to say, I asked for spaetzle instead. That was also very interesting. It came with a side of brown gravy which did add a lot of flavor to the otherwise German version of a noodle. My friend ordered the German sampler platter with Ray's salad. The bratwurst in my opinion was PHENOMENAL. The sauerkraut was also very good, and unfortunately, I cannot remember what the other sausage was called, but it was also pleasant. I walked away from this restaurant with the conclusion that German meat is very well-seasoned and those who make it obviously know that sauerkraut is awesome with bratwurst. Now, people keep talking about the decor and I say don't let that deter you from going here. It is not dilapidated, but full of woodwork and, well, wood. As long as the restaurant isn't reminiscent of a haunted house (by ghosts, insects/pests, or otherwise), I will try it out. Long story short, I think it is at least worth checking out if you are going to be in New Ulm for longer than two days. That way if you don't like it, you can go to another place the second day.

Yelp
My friend that is German says tastes almost like his family's home cooked meals. Had the sampler the chicken Kiev (AWESOME) and the ribs. Plus a couple of beers. Staff was friendly and pieces reasonable.

Yelp
I'm not a fan of sauerkraut and general German food but since we're road tripping and exploring New Ulm for the day, I went with it. We had a very nice server who accommodated our group which expanded from 4 to 6. The sampler platter was so so but I enjoyed the ribs. The sauerkraut soup was a good surprise. I'd order it again!

Yelp
Please remember that Kaiserhoff is an Americanized German restaurant .The dishes will not be like you find in Dusseldorff or Berlin. The ribs never disappoint. The Rays salad is always good. I was surprised the last time I ate there by the German potato salad. It was overly sweet and not as tart and zingy as I remember it was in past visits. However the soft drinks never stop flowing and there is always Schell's beer on tap. The waitstaff is is always prompt and courteous.
