The growth of grassroots tourism in Malang, Surabaya - SilverKris
"A leafy heritage neighbourhood dating back roughly 150 years, this compact area preserves squat Dutch-era double-storey buildings and narrow lanes that feel cooler and quieter than the surrounding city. Home to some 750 families, the enclave hosts small shops selling jamu and batik, boutique stalls, European-style lamp-posts and a lively wet market now popular with visitors; wayfinding signs (mainly in Bahasa Indonesia) help tourists explore the area on foot, and a modest entrance fee (about IDR5,000 / S$0.48) has helped stimulate the local economy as residents develop basic hospitality skills." - Vanessa Tai
I've been here twice. The village is clean and every corner is Instagrammable, perfect for those of you who love taking photos! In addition, the residents are also very friendly! I recommend you come here at night, because the atmosphere is more cozy and you can enjoy the beauty of Kayutangan at night, but the downside is that it's very crowded, especially on holidays. In addition, the snacks there are relatively affordable and delicious!

I suggest you to come here at night. Because the atmosphere is very cozy. It’s pretending to how to live in old town. The light was so wonderful at night. But some of the stores closed.

This area is perfect for café hopping, especially for coffee lovers! It’s one of the oldest houses in the heart of the city and a popular spot among tourists. There are plenty of corners and spots that are perfect for taking photos.

Kayu Tangan is a really nice place with a great atmosphere and aesthetic design. I came around 8 a.m., so it felt a bit quiet and slightly empty, which made the mood a little sad. However, I still recommend this place because the prices are affordable and it’s a good spot to relax or take photos. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Must come around 5pm… else the weather is too hot.. seeing how the locals house architecture and a lot of unique cafe with the local price.. pay 10k for foreigner and 5k for local in exchange the post card in the entrance..

Nice place to chill strolling around, Passing through the tunnel of time because some of the heritage houses still have the Dutch colonial style and have not changed.

A heritage site in the heart of Malang, well-maintained and managed by the Malang city government. Various facilities, particularly culinary delights and cafes, add to the vibrancy.
