Kalahari Trails offers an unforgettable experience, and our one-week stay at the Tree Camp truly exceeded all expectations. Located just a 25-minute drive into the park, the Tree Camp is wonderfully secluded, nestled between the iconic red dunes of the Kalahari, giving you an incredible feeling of complete privacy and connection with nature. The hosts were exceptional, going out of their way to make the stay special. One of the most unique highlights was spending time with the rescued meerkats—a truly rare experience. Feeding them insects was both fascinating and heartwarming, something you won’t find anywhere else. The night drives on the property were equally spectacular. We were fortunate enough to see the elusive pink fairy of the bushveld, an aardvark on not just one but four occasions across two drives, as well as springhares and striped polecats. During the day, walking through the red dunes offered the chance to spot gemsbok, springbok, and other wildlife up close. Overall, Kalahari Trails Tree Camp is a remarkable place that combines tranquility, wildlife encounters, and genuine hospitality. We are already looking forward to returning for another stay.

We had a great time camping at Kalahari Trails, a short 25 minute drive to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The camp has two toilets and two showers and a kitchen area, with a “donkey” fire geyser providing hot water. The camp site is completely out of site of any other manmade structures and the conservancy has plenty of game on it, giving a real sense of being out in the Kalahari wilderness (no hyenas or large cats so it’s perfectly safe)! A bonus was two aardvark sitings on the self-drive 4x4 night-drives we undertook on the conservancy! Richard, the owner, was always onsite a few kilometers away from the camp, enthusiastically engaging and assisting where required during our stay. In summary, a great way of authentically experiencing the Kalahari!

Overnight stop after visiting Kgalagadi as the kids wanted to see the meercats and it turned into a lovely experience. Marlie was very knowledgeable and her passion for the meercats shone through. She took us for a walk to the dunes with the two youngest meercats which the kiddies loved. Very warm and inviting experience. We camped in the eco camp which includes power and private ablutions, it felt like we were miles from anybody else, just us and peacefulness under the stars. Highly recommend visiting Kalahari Trails.

9 of us camped at the Tree Camp for a week. It was absolutely lovely. At night the stars were mind blowing with not a hint of light in sight. We did two night drives on the farm and managed to spot Aardvark not once, but twice! It was an unforgettable experiencing spotting these illusive animals. We had a constant supply of wood at our disposal (super convenient), lovely hot water via a donkey, camping shade due to the massive tree covering the camp and even WiFi at the main house for those who needed to get some work done whilst away. The staff are super friendly and knowledgable of the beautiful nature surrounding them.

Nice place to stay overnight in a chalet. Camping facilities available. Went for a short walk with a guide. Didn't see the main group of meerkats but met the meerkats in rehab...they are so cute...good work been done here...will visit again.

DG Overlanding camped at Kalahari Trails. They have a number of camping options, Private Ablutions, Eco Camping (no power) as well as a dune campsite. We stayed at the private ablution campsites. They have 4 of these. Each has a private ablution with contains a shower, flush toilet and a had basin. On the outside is a dish washing sink and counter. Each site has power as well as a view over a waterhole. The sites are sandy (Kalahari!) and have some shade. Although the ablutions are small, they are adequate. We loved the piece and quiet and the scenery of the desert and the sand dunes. There are various species of plains game and the main attraction are the meerkats. Various activities are on offer as well. The accommodation if 34km's from the Transfrontier park.

While visiting Kgalagadi national park we popped in here 1 morning before heading into the park. It's around 35km from the park gate at Twee Rivieren We arranged a dune walk at 8am. Was a bit chilly being winter in SA, but we soon warmed up. The resident guide met us with little Paddington, the baby meerkat tucked away and sleeping. This was the main reason for visiting, to support the meerkat sanctuary. It did not take long for Paddington to join us on our walk and entertained us for at least the 1st 5km of our walk. We also saw some springbok, oryx/Gemsbok and a nesting white backed vulture As we re entered the camp we noted that the wild meerkat colony were awake and also saw some ground squirrels. The whole gang followed us back to the property as they knew they would get some food. Unfortunately they don't accept Paddington so he has to stay out of their way. He was an unwanted pet and will eventually be rehabilitated back into the wild This was a great way to get close to nature and support a good cause. The walk was R150pp. Perhaps a little more sharing of educational information around plants , animals etc in the area which make this an even better experience. Still loved the interaction with Paddington though

What a gem! Booked the tree camp because it was located away from the other camps. So serene and quiet. Mareli took us on the guided walk withbthe meerkats and showed us all the interesting plants and animals of the sanctuary. You can see that she loves what she does and take pride in her work. It was so special to have the opportunity to interact with the meerkats that she is busy rehabilitating.
