Yelp
Being conveniently located in Poipu, it was a no brainer for us to stop by and eat here, as we passed by every time we drove down to South Shore. Kalapaki Joe's is known for their daily happy hour, between 3pm-6pm, so of course we made sure to time our dinner during that window.
When we arrived, the hostess informed us that the wait time for a table would be able 30mins, but she could seat us immediately if we didn't mind sitting at the bar, so of course we agreed. This actually turned out to be rather advantageous, as we sat ourselves near the napkins, so it was very easy to grab more as needed. And being that all the servers constantly would go to the bar to grab more drinks, or to work the register to update a patron's orders, we were constantly being asked if there was anything else we needed, and any additional food or drink items we ordered were always delivered very quickly.
Kalapaki Joe's happy hour has several order requirements that initially, were a bit confusing to follow. First, each person in the party has a two-drink minimum order requirement. The drinks are thankfully also happy hour pricing, so it still made happy hour worth it. The beers were $5 for a "small", which is about a pint size, so you definitely still get a good portion per drink. Secondly, certain items such as wings and shrimp tempuras have to be ordered in increments of 5.
For our meal, we wound up ordering quite a bit of the following:
-Chicken Wings: Perfectly battered wings, that were deliciously crunchy on the outside, but nice and juicy on the inside. At $0.25/piece, it was hard not to load up on these, as they were both delicious, as well as affordable. We wound up downing about 10 pieces between the two of us.
-Fish Tacos: Wasn't sure what type of fish was used, except that it was clearly some type of white fish. The fish was fresh, and the tacos sizable and incredibly delicious.
-Slider: We only got 1 of this. While decently good, it was very reminiscent of a White Castle burger, without the cheese.
-Shrimp Tempura: These were really good, but also taste a lot like the frozen shrimp tempuras we could buy at Costco.
Service was very friendly and efficient. And there was even live music from a very talented young lady near the end of our meal. Free parking is available in their attached, private lot. Highly recommend everyone stop by Kalapaki Joe's when you're in Poipu. We definitely look forward to going back!
