"Once we settled in, we caught the sunset on the beach and grabbed dinner from a little bakery called Kalapawai Market. I got pizza."

My husband is traveling for work and is currently in Hawaii. He recently checked this place out for lunch. The restaurant is clean and well appointed and the staff was very nice. He ordered the Furikake Fresh Catch Bento and he said it was very good. The portion was filling and the flavor was great. if you are on the island and want to try something fresh and authentic, definitely check this place out!

Phenomenal tastes! Server & staff were very helpful and kind. I haven’t found a better “hole in the wall,” in a long time. The items to buy were great as well; t-shirts, coffee & snacks, bags, and mugs! Don’t miss coming here. Try the Margarita Pizza and S’more Brownie with Mac Nut Ice cream on top, you won’t regret it!

Pleasantly surprised by the tuna salad sandwich I had here! My husband and I used vouchers from Kailua Beach Adventures for our lunch and had to choose from a small selection of sandwiches. We both agreed that the sandwiches were pretty good considering. The market itself has a random selection of items- including cookies local to our hometown in NC!

Walked here from a nearby beach for breakfast and coffee. We both got bagel sandwiches and they were so good - I’m used to getting robbed in terms of avocado but they loaded it up! Not sure if the bagels are made here but they sure taste like it, very good. The coffee was good with many options and made quick.

Love this place. Very chill little market that sells MTO coffee drinks and breakfast pastries. There is also a deli counter that sells things like pasta salad. I got an iced caramel latte which was tasty (and strong)! You can purchase other thinga here includimg clothing, canned nonalcoholic & alcoholic beverages, snacks and various kitchen necessities. Perfect for someone who might be visiting and need a few things for where they are staying. Great place to stop and the way to or from the beach.

Well to begin with service was excellent lady upfront this morning was very helpful and polite. Her service and the waitress was amazing. Could not ask for more. The food is a great portion and the price so so reasonable for what I got. Love it.

Great stop for breakfast and a few last minute beach items. It’s a little pricey but you can find most of what you want. The breakfast menu is full options and very filling serving. They didn’t have coffee creamer so not a big fan. Located just on the corner the round about so be careful when walking or driving there. Very friendly and fun staff.

Iconic local marketplace set off by itself. Close to Kahlua and Lanikai beaches. Almost 100 years old and still having one of the coolest local Beach atmospheres, this is a definite place to call ahead for your lunch or acai bowls or just knick-knacks as reminders of this incredible neighborhood next to the world's top beaches. Loved everything about this place and the food was actually excellent. Ranging from pizzas to sandwiches to specialty concoctions. The staff is so incredibly friendly and always willing to give you ideas on where to go to explore. This was also the stop after hitting the lonic eye pill box hike and this will be one of my favorite memories from the island

Yelp
A classic example of an independent market that is super convenient, and authentic Hawaii to the extreme! The prices are what they are but the coffee is solid and the sandwiches are right on. The people who work there are friendly and the souvenirs are solid. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in Manhattan walking around with a Kalapawai Market Yeti!

Yelp
Very strong coffee, this place knows how to make an espresso drink for sure!! Even though a coffee is iced, you can taste the richness of the coffee until the very last drop. Not a big parking lot, but you can park in neighborhood side streets. Definitely worth the drop by. Assortment of general store like goods as well.

Yelp
This is a great place to get a sandwich. We tried the chicken pesto, Reuben and BLT, they are all delicious and we want to continue trying other sandwiches from this place. Their online order system is fast and easy, skip the long line to get your sandwich when it is done.

Yelp
I always stop at this locally owned market when I visit Kailua. The historic market was built in 1932! They have a small sandwich shop in the back, a coffee station in front (serving Hawaiian coffee, of course) and convenience store items up front. I like that they carry locally made goods as well. This visit, I picked up red Hawaiian Volcanic Salt, which is hard to find. Prices were reasonable. The market is close to the beach, making it a perfect spot to grab lunch. Sandwich prices have gone up since my last visit, but the sandwiches are large and sharable. The clerks are friendly, helpful and efficient.

Yelp
First time trying here and I enjoyed it, cute little spot in Kailua before getting into Kailua town. Parking can be tight but not hard. Mood setting was simple, nothing too fancy and more of a comfortable dress attire. Our server was so sweet, she always checked on us at the right times, drinks were always refilled. We ordered the crap artichoke dip and wow that was really good. The menu was short and simple which was good, I dislike looking through pages of menu items. I did notice I did not really see a kids menu, but they did have side dishes you could order so my son was happy with the Mac and cheese. We ordered the shrimp gumbo and lamb, both dishes were great and the gumbo was the right amount of spice.

Yelp
While on the north shore of Oahu thanks to booking a kayak tour, the package we booked came with lunch. One of the choices was here for a select menu of items. We came here as it looked like more our speed. More of a down home type place that is more focused on food than looking a certain way - vintage with paneling, dim lighting and some solid food. I went with the turkey BLT wrap - which could have used more meat but was good. The deal also came with a bag of chips and a can of soda. Was just the right amount of food - and I liked it here. Would come back and try something new.

Nice market! Good craft beer selection, all sorts of drinks (including fountain drinks), snacks, souvenirs, and more. Staff was helpful. Overall cleanliness: above average p

Yelp
Our friends brought us here because they said the banana bread is so good. They were raving about it. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it was below average banana bread. Very dry, not much banana flavor. Felt like it might be old. Expensive too for a single loaf.

Yelp
Awesome local market with everything for the locals to the tourists! Priced on the high side do to the location, just a few blocks to da world class Kailua beach. Today is a HOT day and I went straight to the back deli counter area inside the store to get some refreshing creamy Pop Culture Artisan Pops "Matcha Honey Cream"!is da creamy dreamy bomb! Made local here in Hawaii with Aloha! The Kalapawai Market has everything from tourist collectibles to local grinds of all kinds! Beer, soda, wine, ice! Expresso bar coffee too! Great local establishment walking distance to da beach!

Yelp
Terrible service‍ I have been a customer for over 20 years and never have I experienced such bad service last few years. The owners mother is actually my client and I haven't even told her. There's been numerous occasions where I have called and asked for the deli and they put me on hold forever and I mean foreverrrr (yesterday I called twice and it happened both times that I had to hang up because it took so long ) one time I just walked in while my phone was still on hold and the girls were just talking on their phones Food is great. The products are great and I love this place but the service is horrible. They do not care about customer service. Get off your phone girls! Pay attention!

Yelp
Stopped by Kalapawai Market to grab a couple drinks and chips before hitting Kailua Beach. Didn't realize this little corner beach market offered breakfast and lunch options as well. Ordered a couple of sandwich combos all which were delicious! They also have these prepackaged grab and go food options (cold curry chicken, potato salad, cut up fruit, yogurt parfait etc)i f you're press for time. The curry chicken didn't even make it to the register. Although I didn't try any of the breakfast options they all looked great. Besides your regular cold beverages Kalapawai offers a variety of coffees with flavored creamers. If you can't wait to eat they have a have a few benches on the side of the building you can use. If not take it to the beach. As I read in a previous review and would suggest it, park at the beach then walk over to the market to grab your food. The staff was super friendly and the prices are reasonable. Kalapawai was a great find, highly recommend.

Yelp
Nothing better than a delicious sandwich after a beautiful walk on Kailua Beach. This local market is both adorable and full of good things. They also have picnic tables outside so you can grab your food and hang out for a bit while you eat. The folks at the deli were super sweet and helpful. I got the BTA (bacon, tomato and avocado) sandwich on a plain bagel - I've never met a place that voluntarily skipped the lettuce and it was decidedly a perk. Loved it!

Yelp
Convenient location to Kailua and lanikai beach. If you missed the grocery stores in Kailua this is your last chance for snack, beverages and fresh food options. Got the fresh Mahi sandwich. Good/ filling, lacking a little in the Mahi department in my opinion but tasty and everything by tastes better at the beach.
google avatar

Yelp
Poke bowl was very good, missing a bit of the veggies that you would normally get. Mano bowl was unreal, so good. Service was kind and the place is so authentic.

Lucy H.

Yelp
The market itself is located right on Kailua beach and has an outside seating area for dining. The ahi poke was super fresh and delicious, the sandwich was pretty good but not anything extraordinary. The salad was also okay, but the portion was super big and filling.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
What a nice fun market with all kinds of items to purchase. Live near by and need some item you need for dinner, they might have it. There are souvenirs from hats, tshirts, insulated cups, and more. They were grilling some chicken outside and it smelt amazing! I did not get any food here, so cannot say the taste, but it sure smells good.

Yelp
I never really took notice of the local Kalapawai Market chain on Oahu until recently and I'm glad I did. This review is for the Kailua location, which is a convenient place to grab those must-haves to make a beach day truly special. It's located right off Kailua Beach Park, they have plenty of dedicated parking right out front. You can't miss their verdant green facades with white lettering. It's a convenience store, wine/beer store, and offers food to-go. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of choices they offer; prices are reasonable for the location not too much more than a grocery store. I also appreciated being able to use a restroom on my visit. The day of the visit I grabbed a 6 pack to share with the family while eating at Bob's Pizzeria across the street. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

Yelp
Great little market with the most amazing sandwiches Grab a couple drinks, some sandwiches and you're good to go relax on Kailua beach! They have a nice little covered outdoor seating if you wanna eat there They sell Andy's Salsa, who is a local guy that makes the best salsa I have ever eaten! They also have quite the selection of souvenirs and photo/art prints for sale I always come back here, and the people who work there are super friendly!

Yelp
Hit the SPOT! The Italian sandwich and the Turkey Club were FANTASTIC! The chips and drinks were good, spot was cute, hospitality was great and overall a perfect lunch spot to pickup when at the beach! 10/10

Yelp
My little ohana and I were having a beach day, and decided to get some food from Kalapawai since it's so fast and easy to get while at Kailua Beach. I placed my order while my husband was doing the driving to the beach through the convenient 'order online' button on their Yelp page. It was so fast and easy to order and pay, and it gave me an approximate time that my order would be ready for pick up. It took about 20 minutes, which was perfect for us to find parking, unload the car, get the keiki situated, and walk there from the parking lot. We ordered two sandwhiches and a pizza. They were all very tasty. It was fast and easy to pick up since we didn't have to wait in any lines having ordered and paid online. So convenient! Everything was ready when I walked in to pick it up. I've been to Kailua beach so so so many times, and this was my first experience at this Kalapawai location. I know, crazy! But I look forward to stopping in again soon, if really like a chance to browse through all they have to offer... is it just me, or does everyone like to browse every isle when they go to a new place?! Anyway, the food is good, fast service, and so very convenient.

Gerri B.

Yelp
The subs are worth stopping and picking up lunch either as you go to the beach or while you're at the beach. We went to the location right Kailua Beach. We had the Italian and fresh tuna fish.

Yelp
For the picture perfect Kailua and Lanikai Beaches , nothing is better than having a picnic lunch on the beach! Park your car in the lots (especially on weekdays) or take a Lyft/Uber. The market is a short walk from both beaches. They have a variety of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and snacks. Then off to the side you can take your pick on some made to order sandwiches (hot or cold) and some sides as well. We had the club sandwich and turkey cranberry which left us feeling a good kind of full with enough energy to still get into the water. This is pretty much the only walking distance place to grab some grub (except for a nearby restaurant) and enjoy on the beach! ALOHA.
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped by here to grab quick drinks. We got coconut latte and while we were waiting, my friends got juice from the fridge. All of them are very good (we got ginger, pineapple and nectar)! The cafe is really big.
google avatar

Shandis C.

Yelp
I love stopping at this cute little market on my way in or out of Lanikai! Go to the back to order ready to go or made to order food, including wraps, sandwiches, poke bowls and pizza. Breakfast burrito is my go to. You can also grab other "market items" like snacks for the beach, homemade bread, sundries and fresh produce. This market also has a sister cafe in Kailua town that serves more food. Both are great, but I love this market for its quaint, casual and rustic feel!
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
A friendly, neighborhood market that sells sundries, fresh coffee, and other beverages. The coffee is fantastic. The coconut overnight oats cup is delicious. And the lemon poppyseed muffin was fresh and moist. This is the right place to start your day.
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
Perfect spot to grab lunch at before heading to Kailua Beach. The Kailua Club sandwich (turkey, cheese, avocado, mayo, sprouts) was delicious; my husband had the Curry Chicken Salad wrap which he said was ok. Plenty of local snacks and treasures to browse through while you wait for lunch to be made.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
We always stop by this market for cool treats on hot beach days. The store can be a little hot inside, but they have a great selection of goods.
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
Did not plan on going here during my trip to Oahu but ended up in the market multiple times! The proximity to the beach allowed for a great spot to grab lunch, and I stopped in for coffee a few times as well. I thought their coffee was good, they have non dairy milk options and decaf espresso so I was excited. Also I love their straws, weird note but s/o to them. I also got to try their sandwich selection. Ordered a few cold sandwiches and they were AMAZING! Definitively hit the spot. You order sandwiches at the counter in the back but pay where the coffee orders take place which allows you to grab other items from their convenience store if needed. Staff was really nice. My first trip in I found myself asking why there were so many souvenir items with the markets name on them, but by my third visit I wanted them all. Good vibes.
google avatar

Connor E.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite local store to visit when I visit Hawaii. It has all sorts of things perfect for a beach day and things to pick up on the fly. The staff here are very friendly are always have a smile on their face.
google avatar

Ashlee W.

Yelp
I had to stop at the cute little green market on the corner! A friend recommended the spanakopita here but I was very hungry so opted for a tuna sandwich! It was great and very filling! I also grabbed a coffee to warm up and they had lots of fun syrups and add ons. Definitely recommend stopping before your beach day or after some beach adventures for snacks!

Yelp
Nice local market near the beach. Great selection of drinks, snacks and treats. They have nice hats and t-shirts, too. My t-shirt is p

Yelp
This place has been in business since 1932 which is very impressive. It's a market and they also have a deli in the back where they serve sandwiches, tacos and other cooked food items. The location is perfect as its right by Kailua Beach, you can grab some food and drinks and head over to the beach. They also have an outdoor seating area with limited seating where you can eat. I ordered the fish tacos and they were just ok, seemed to be lacking flavor. My friend ordered a sandwich and he said it was good. This place is overpriced but convenient.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
This place is a gem. Half cafe, half market, half restaurant (yes, there's three halves), K-market as the locals call it (they don't call it that) is everything you need, and MORE. What "more" is this that you need you may ask? Well, if when you go to pay for your goods you wink twice with your left eye and say "shama lama ding dong", all your items are free. TRY IT. *note: that is completely false.
google avatar

Heather V.

Yelp
After 3 hours of sun on Lanikai Beach, we walked down to the market for a sandwich. I had the chicken Caesar wrap and my hubby had a pulled pork sandwich. Both were tasty and enjoyable. I also bought some Macadamia nut coffee and some North Shore Goodies - the original macadamia nut honey coconut peanut butter. We love this area and we liked the good food. Mahalo!! We will be back!!
google avatar

Jason P.

Yelp
Great menu, went with the fresh fish of the day. The snapper was cooked to perfection, well seasoned and flaky. The risotto was tasty but could have used some additional seasoning. Service was fantastic.

John G.

Yelp
Why wouldn't you stop by on the way to the beach? I'm going to start making this a morning routine , I can't think of a reason not to. Kailua beach park straight ahead, Kalama beach park to the left and Lanikai beach park to the right. How can you go wrong? I prefer biking, Kailua is pretty flat and there's no waiting on busy days at the .
google avatar

Astrid S.

Yelp
Nah don't buy food here. I have had good luck finding good poke from small markets like Fort Ruger's (omg so good), so I was like why not? So I got the poke bowl: half shoyu half spicy ahi. They added kimchi. The kimchi was the best thing in that bowl. I opened it and the light tuna colored made me go womp womp. It just looked sad. Then I took a bite of the rice and the poke. The rice, you can hear the rice. They didn't even cook it. Like it's raw rice. Who runs a kitchen that doesn't know how to operate a rice maker? They were nice tho. Especially the cashier Jacob. He's got good customer service. I called them and they refunded me. I was gonna bring it back, but they said I don't have to. Thanks I guess for saving me the trouble.

Mary R.

Yelp
I think the WORST sandwich we've EVER had (EVER) on 3 day old bread. DRY Turkey Cranberry - just awful. Picked at the 3 pieces of turkey. Gave the bread away to the birds and mongoose on the golf course. They weren't even having it.
google avatar

Compass-Rose X.

Yelp
If you want a dry sandwich served up with a side of nonchalant kids working the register and playing grab ass, then this is your place! I ordered a Reuben sandwich, specifically asking for extra sauce because the last time I was here it was the driest sandwich ever. Also elected for the side of coleslaw as my side choice. Took the receipt up to the register to pay, but had to wait until the girls stocking the items and the kid behind the register stopped messing around and laughing loudly playing tag or whatever. Just makes you want to get out of there quickly for sure! Unwrapped the sandwich and of course: NOT EVEN ANY THOUSAND ISLAND DRESSING and the small coleslaw was not included with the sandwich as it clearly states on the ordering board, I was charged $3 for it. WTF. Don't bother with this "iconic landmark" for any food or decent service. Scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to food and customer service. The tourists can have this place...No thank you!
google avatar

Sharika M.

Yelp
Probably the cheapest place you'll find iced coffee on the island, $2 for a medium. Their bakery items are mediocre like the banana poi bread. I got a egg and cheese bagel, it took 20 minutes to make and my order was the next one in their queue. I asked for ketchup in my bagel and made sure to further confirm, only to find no ketchup in my bagel. The bagel was brittle and tasted old. The other items in the market like chip bags and souvenirs are significantly overpriced, whereas the food isn't so much.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Kalapawai Market was recommended to us by a friend as a quick lunch spot before heading to Kailua Beach nearby. The location is very convenient, and the food was delicious and fresh! I enjoyed the Da Tsunami sandwich. Wraps and sandwiches come with a small side of tossed greens, coleslaw, or chips, or they can be a là carte for $3 less. As we waited for the food, it was also nice to browse their little market which sells a bit of everything you might need. They have outdoor seating with some shading, and it was nice to enjoy our lunch there with the warm weather outside.
google avatar

Ilima L.

Yelp
My go to place for a quick bite, coffee, relaxed breakfast with a friend, or a nice glass of wine. The staff is amazing, friendly and they always make you feel welcome. And the muffins are on point !!!
google avatar

Sophie E.

Yelp
Cute souvenir shop, great food, very reasonably priced! They had the cutest tumblers, cups and shirts! They had fresh food, fruit, and the banana bread was so good! The medium latte I got (with oat milk) was less than $4 including tax! Absolutely loved this place!
google avatar

T D.

Yelp
I see why a lot of locals don't want to come here anymore. The kids who work here need a serious attitude adjustment. Just because I'm not a haole surfer boy, doesn't mean you have to give me a dirty face when I ask you to grind my coffee. This isn't Blue Crush. It's your job. You're better off going to other places in Kailua like Morning Brew and Rise & Grind. They cater to locals and tourists alike, with better coffee and better eats. Also, less grab ass.
google avatar

Amanda O.

Yelp
Inedible on my most recent visit. I literally had to spot the food out. The avocado on my sandwich had a fermented and tangy taste to it. Absolutely disgusting. I will never order from this location again.
google avatar

Cole D.

Yelp
Super crispy BLTA sandwich and nice outdoor tables. Great little market for coffee, wine, and other snacks. The BLTA was super thick and delicious. The bacon was so crispy and was packed on as a nice wall of thin strips. The bread was white, I wish I had requested different. But the bread was really good. Sandwich was cut in half which is appreciated. Came with a Mac salad. It was only ok. It came in a small white circular cup with a lid. Didn't have a crazy amount of flavor, so I'd rather get chips with my sandwich next time. Price was only $10. Great location if you're trying to be close to the beach and need a quick bite.

Bianca O.

Yelp
my fav place to grab a quick bite at when in kailua !! only walking distance from the beach and also has all the essential snacks for the beach !

Ruth Ann T.

Yelp
Stopped here for an iced mocha. Only problem we had was finding a parking spot. Interesting local market that we regret not coming back to on our short visit to Oahu. Will definitely come back next time we're in Kailua.
