Among the old big churches in Helsinki, Kallio Church is, I think, the most robust, the most massive. It's a message itself, to be like a rock on a rock.
(Update 10.8.25)There is a possibility to climb up to the tower of the church. The entrance to the tower costs 12 euro which may sound a bit expensive but it's absolutely worth of it. Even the inside of the tower is very interesting to see; there is a small presentation of the history of the church and the church bells available for viewing - let alone the view up there all around Helsinki. If you happen to have acrofobia - like I have - already the last part of the stairs is horror 😅
The inside of Kallio Church is more "lutheran" than for example St. John's Church', that is, the decoration is rather modest; but to create a powerful tune of atmosphere doesn't require intense colours or pictures or any other outer expressions of holiness. It just is, if it is. Kallio Church is absolutely worth of visit at least for people who are interested in church architecture in Finland.
