Traditional Crafts Live On Through Chiang Mai's Emerging Artists

"Architect Achariyar Rojanapirom opened Kalm Village in Chiang Mai's Old City in the spring of 2021. It includes three boutiques stocking handwoven bamboo baskets and batik-printed shirts created with Hmong tribespeople from nearby Phayao province, an exhibition space with historical northern Thai textiles and modern crafts, and the Museum of Makers as a textile gallery and showroom for artists and designers."

I knew it from the entrance — this place is SO my style. KAlM VILLAGE is a beautiful art and culture complex in Chiang Mai, filled with creativity and calm. There are exhibitions, artisan crafts, books to browse, and even yoga classes happening in the open courtyard. The wooden architecture adds a warm, welcoming feel to the space. One room had an incredible display of colorful textiles from different Thai regions — it was absolutely stunning. This place blends tradition and modernity in the most graceful way. A 10/10 from me💯

Kalm Village is tucked away in a quiet alley, about a 5-minute walk from Chiang Mai Gate. The building itself is modern with a unique touch—a Chinese-style rooftop that adds character. The interior is artistic, minimalist, and thoughtfully designed—even the washrooms are aesthetically pleasing. It seems like the space is updated regularly, as the decor looked different from what I saw in earlier photos. The place houses a restaurant, café, library, and plenty of seating areas, making it a nice spot to relax if you're in the area. That said, there’s not much to explore, so I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way just to visit.

Good place for having rest, coffee, snack and cultural experiences in Chiang mai old town. There’re also some stores inside but expensive somewhat than outside. Suitable place to taking photo too.

A cute spot with beautiful architecture, shops, and food/drinks. It’s a bit more expensive here than elsewhere, but it’s still a cool place to rest if it’s on your path or if you’re interested in Thai culture. They also do activities so I would recommend checking out their page ahead of your trip :)

Kalm Village is a cultural space built with intention. It’s calm without being hollow, minimal without being sterile, and deeply tied to Thai craftsmanship and tradition. If you’re into art, architecture, textiles, or just want to feel like you’re not consuming Chiang Mai on autopilot, this place is worth your time. The buildings are stunning with all reclaimed wood and handmade brick, designed in a way that respects both space and silence. There’s a library, a small museum, craft exhibitions, and a shop that actually stocks things made by real local artisans. I saw some reviews from people mostly fussy tourists whining about it not being lively or “worth visiting,” and honestly, I don’t think they understood what this place even is. If you’re looking for photo ops and iced coffee, there are a hundred cafés nearby. This isn’t that. That said, my only real critique: it does feel a little too polished. A bit curated for the white gaze. Still, it’s a good space. Just go in with clear eyes

Sanctuary for the soul. Calm the noise inside. Go upstairs with your ceremonial matcha, grab a book and just melt into the pages of one of the many beautiful books.

Such a peaceful and beautiful private museum in old city, Chiangmai. Kalm village, an amazing art center with incredible collections of handmade craft & art pieces from Northern Thailand and relevant countries. With a lovely cafe and three small shops inside, which selling clothes, fabric and other handmade staffs. Definitely will revisit again. #thebeautyofhandmade #artwork #handmade #chiangmai #museum

Very relaxing and calm! Some information about the textiles inside with air conditioning! Seems like the perfect place to study or relax with coffee.
