Great spot for a dinner after the beach! They keep their beers on tap fairly chilly which is absolutely refreshing. Great options for seafood! The pasta is quite delicious. Beware of chickens prancing around the restaurant, fairly harmless and quirky. Peak hours will come with a wait but they’re true to their estimation.

Google
Awesome place. Good vibes, good beer selection, attentive service. We did not try the Cocktails though. Food (more on the pub food side) was delicious! We had the coconut shrimps(wow!) and the BBQ wings (fingerlickin) for starters - and that would have been enough, had we known the size of the portions. Mains were Fish&Chips and a Burrito. Both very good.

Google
This was our favorite restaurant during our stay in Kauai. Good drink selection and huge beers! We got the Kalua pork nachos which were delicious and the coconut shrimp which my wife and I agreed was probably the best coconut shrimp we ever had. Definitely recommend and wish we would have went back for another meal!

Google
Come hungry! The portions here are massive, and the food is delicious. Be sure to snag a house special drink, too. The vibe is laid back and causal, but stays busy! Expect a noisy dining experience.

Google
Found this place after a walk from Princeville to Hanalei. Stopped for coffee, then walked the town. My husband and brother in law asked If they could puck me up. Found this t. Men will do a lit for a great beer list. The beer list is awesome! La Choufe blonde in Hawaii! I hope to be back before I leave. Sorry I no food was eaten.

Google
Literally the best meal I’ve had here in Kauai! Best service by far. You must try this place. I got the Huli Huli chicken with rice and it was incredible. The server Eli was excellent, super friendly & my cup was never empty. It’s always an awesome experience here.

Google
After completing some light shopping, we stopped off at Kalypso Island Bar. A gentleman we met at the Botanical Gardens recommended the restaurant to us. We really enjoyed our Mahi mahi and yellow fin tuna meals. The chef’s sauces were amazing! For dessert, our party of four split the molten lava cake with ice cream and it was scrumptious. We enjoyed eating in the open air restaurant and our server, Avalon was great!

Google
Great place to stop for happy hour. $5 drinks on tap and $12-15 for apps. The coconut shrimp were super yum. Perfect crisp and great sweet sauce drizzled on top. Nachos were just ok. The chips were a bit stale or maybe just lacked flavor. Would pass on the nachos next time. Waitress was attentive. We ordered two beers, mocktail, nachos and coconut shrimp for $50. Reasonable and had an awesome outdoor area if you’re lucky. Less noisy to sit in the tables that extend outside.

Yelp
Although this place is definitely Hawaiian vibe, chill, drink and have fun type of establishment, it's a bit too Jimmy Buffet tourist Margaritaville for my taste. We had to sit at the bar as the place was packed, no locals in sight, and a wee bit too cramped and noisy. And I don't need to watch large TV screens with people playing poker to entertain me. But, hey, go with the vibe. The menu is good and what you'd expect and LOTS of drink choices. I had a spicy Margarita that was quite good. For a meal I had the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious. The pork was exceptional but the bread got soggy on the bottom. The fries, an extra, were good. A good meal and drink, so life is good.

Yelp
Kalypso Bar and Grill offers both indoor and outdoor dining, with the latter providing stunning views of the fog-covered mountains. The service was a little slow even when the restaurant wasn't busy. However, the quality of the food left much to be desired. The ham and tomato benedict was a major disappointment. The hollandaise sauce lacked the rich, creamy flavor that is characteristic of this classic dish. The ham was cold, the hollandaise was lukewarm, and the bread was tough. To make matters worse, the accompanying potatoes were bland. The French toast was a more acceptable option, though it wasn't exceptional. Given the limited availability of French toast on the island, it was a satisfying choice for my friend. Overall, Kalypso Bar and Grill fell short in terms of food quality. P.S. don't be alarmed by the chickens roaming freely inside the restaurant. It's quite common in Hawaii, and the chickens don't bother you.

Yelp
We decided to try this place after discovering that the Thai restaurant we originally planned to visit was closed. Even though it was our first time here, we were pleasantly surprised. Due to the crowd, we were initially seated at one table, but when a better table opened up, I asked our waitress if we could move. She was incredibly accommodating, not just by giving us the new table but also by making sure we felt comfortable throughout the evening. I didn't catch her name, but she really made our visit enjoyable. As for the food, the papaya coleslaw I ordered was tasty, but I couldn't really detect any papaya flavor. The chicken wings were great, although I would have preferred a little less BBQ sauce. My husband, who loves burgers, wasn't as happy with his. He found the burger dry, and the tomatoes lacked flavor. On the upside, the waffle fries were crispy and delicious. With a mix of slightly noisy music and strange lighting, I'd still rate this place 4 out of 5 stars overall.

Yelp
Food could improve. Someone in our group got the fajitas, the meat was super tough, and beans and rice were super bland. They felt bad but it was so bad they sent it back. Someone else got the crusted ahi, they described it as "mediocre" . My huli huli chicken was very disappointing. If you must go, get the Alfredo, it was the only edible dish there. Service wasn't great either. We were a group of 6, since the tip was automatically added they didn't try very hard

Yelp
I recommend this place to anyone who visits Kauai! Great for gathering socializing and exploring. The food was amazing and the ambiance was fun. Service was excellent.

Yelp
Jeff bezos jr. over here ruined the bar for everyone. I thought this was just a restaurant where I could enjoy a good meal but no this self Jeff bezos he had different plans. Screaming at every play at the tv with 0 awareness of his surroundings. Could tell he has zero regard for other people. Didn't give a shit about the children or anyone around him. Ended up just leaving but honestly the manager should've asked him to leave as he was over served and very served and was literally being rude to my girlfriend for clapping for the other team. Food was mid and service was mid.

Yelp
While we love the beauty and friendliness of Kauai. Unfortunately we experienced terrible service combined with the worst Mai Tai at the bar at Kalypso. Much better options in Hanalei and Princeville. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Chau B.

Yelp
The food was just okay, lacking much flavor--almost like eating something bland. Overall, I don't feel strongly about the food one way or the other, but the ambiance is enjoyable.

Yelp
What a lovely spot for dinner! The restaurant had lil lanais for dining which was very cute. They started out a bit slow with no water brought until we asked and our drinks were slow to come as well. The seafood chowder was so delicious we wished we had gotten a bowl instead of a cup! The nachos with chicken was dry and had too many black olives and not enough pico de gallo and fresh veggies.

Yelp
My hubby and I left the kids at the condo and came here for date night. There are not many options for sit-down restaurants and this place isn't fancy but it worked for us. There were football games on the TV at the bar but we felt secluded enough at our little table for two that was practically open air. The service was attentive - even when our server got a very large party she still took great care of us. The food was not particularly amazing but it was fine and a decent value for Kauai.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. Great drinks and lively in the place. Food is above average but not phenomenal. Nice to sit and relax after a day at the beach. Will come back for sure. Very kid friendly.

Yelp
So the food is okay. Atmosphere is okay. But our waitress...she was awesome. Very sweet and helpful. Talked to my baby, and was very sweet when we were cleaning up the baby's mess. I totally forgot her name, but she recently grad UH and moved to Kauai with her bf who is from there...so if mgmt looks at this and figures it out, give her a huge Thank You. Menu is huge and a little overwhelming...too many choices! But hubs chose the sausage and bacon sandwich. Came with potatoes. He said sandwich was a little underwhelming, but the baby liked the inside of the potatoes. I got the breakfast quesadilla, added sausage, which was actually delicious. I don't know if it was the sauce or something in it, but was super tasty. Baby liked it too. It was huge, so went home with half. Coffee was pretty terrible...Hubs said it tasted plasticy, but I thought it tasted fatty. Either way, neither of us enjoyed it. He also got a mai tai which he said was okay...not fresh juices, but he just likes to test everyone's mai tais. I had a mimosa with the lilikoi on the side. Delicious...but when is a mimosa ever not?! Overall we had a good experience...Helped the mild hangover so could get on with our day!

Yelp
The place is absolutely well located, good food and drinks, I attended 3 times during my visit to Hawaii. The waiting time wasn't bad, the first and 2nd was faster, the 3rd was like 40 min waiting. But it is worth it the waiting. Prices are affordable. Parking available next to the restaurant, also at the street. It's a nice location because there's several stores around and after you eat, you can go and go shopping. The 1rst waitress was so nice, kaena, the second and 3rd didn't even connect with us. When my daughter asked if she can have a dish what originally has seafood, if possible to remove it since she is vegan the waitress stated she doesn't think was possible, then we stated saying to go somewhere else, she stated let me tell the cookers. And finally our food arrived. All good but not the staff. Even tho I maintain my 5 stars because of the experience.

Yelp
Coconut Shrimp 4 tiger size, flavorful diced pineapples, sweet chili sauce Seafood Chowder 4 indistinguishable seafood, creamy, not plain Poke Calamari Lettuce Wraps 3 tuna medium fresh, small size calamari, wasabi cream, garlic chili sauce, sesame seeds, green onions, medium flavorful

Yelp
The specialty drinks were great. The service was ok, busy but they were working hard. The burrito was ok, as was the fish. The nachos fed three of us, our favorite. Best for drinks of anywhere we went. It has a tiki bar feel, open air with a few flies after your food.
google avatar

Yelp
Go to Happy Hour! It's fun but can get crowded so get their early - great drink prices! But if you don't make it to happy hour - it's still good food, fun, and a great place for lunch! This was our first 'dine-in' on our week stay in Kauai. It was refreshing, hit the spot, and delish.

Yelp
Kalypso is a gem of a place in Kauai. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are fantastic. FOOD: Coconut Shrimp you CANNOT skip out on. You HAVE to try it. The shrimp is big and the flavor is incredible. Crunchy but not over breaded. It's a good thing I don't live here because I would probably stop for lunch everyday and get the shrimp. The Poke Bowl was great as well. The ahi is fresh and I appreciated that the bowl didn't come overloaded with sauces on it so you could taste the quality of the fish. They also have a good selection of beer and a full bar with cocktails. SERVICE: The service was great. I imagine this place is busy just about everyday of the year. The bartender was quick with ordering and very friendly. OVERALL: Kalypso Island Bar & Grill is a great place to stop and grab lunch for just about anyone. I can't recommend the coconut shrimp enough, but there is a variety for everyone to enjoy. The service is also awesome. I would highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Good service, good food and good vibes! We've been wanting to try new spots around town, but end up coming right back to Kalypso. We are heading there for dinner tonight
google avatar

Katelin D.

Yelp
Service was the best it could be for what staff was being dealt. Seems like that had some type of water line broken or drain backing up behind the bar. The bartender was balancing everything well but was definitely preoccupied with cleaning up a huge mess and trying to still serve customers while dealing with said mess. The coconut shrimp (pictured) were absolutely delicious but that's where the good kind of stopped. My fish tacos were bland as well as the rice and beans. Not terrible but not great and just bland. My husband enjoyed his tuna salad which was a couple scoops of tuna salad on top of a bed of house salad with boiled eggs. Would return to explore more appetizers but otherwise it was mostly a let down as it seemed to be one of the better reviewed spots in the area.

Yelp
We came here for a light lunch. We did have to wait awhile, as there was a lunch rush. In total we waited a little longer than half an hour, so we had time to walk and shop around in the area which was nice. Service in general was pretty slow, even though it seemed like they had plenty of wait staff. The place was pretty crowded for most of the time we were there though. I just got something light, coconut shrimp. My boyfriend and relatives also got some mai tais which they enjoyed. My boyfriend and uncle both ordered a couple more drinks but it took quite a long time for them to receive them. We didn't get them until a while after we all finished our food, we were surprised when we actually got the drinks because we thought they had forgot about them. My coconut shrimp was pretty good. There was a lot of coconut in the batter and the shrimp tasted clean. I liked the mango salsa and sweet chili sauce. Overall the place is ok, the slow service being the main issue.

Yelp
The food and service was exceptional. The atmosphere was amazing and the location is perfect

Yelp
Sat at the bar for lunch, had a couple appy's and Mithai's . Morgan took great care of us and we very much enjoyed having a place to sit and eat w/ a cocktails. Food was very good,. We liked the Coconut shrimp more than the Tostadas
google avatar

Nicholas M.

Yelp
Our worst dinner on the island. Overcooked fish, coconut shrimp that look just like the frozen ones you get at home, stale chips... a very meh experience. Nothing horrible just nothing memorable either.
google avatar

Yelp
We drove up to north shore for the day and were looking for an early lunch spot so we could catch the 12:10 pm shuttle. Kalypso fit the bill. We were seated right away at 11 am but the place filled up fast! Great service from Mackenzie who insisted the fries were really good and she was right. We both ordered the kalua pork sandwich and it was tasty and filling. It's a bit of a bar vibe but the tables outside are nice. Great to feel the island breeze while we ate.
google avatar

Ha B.

Yelp
Whoa, good thing we didn't check the reviews before walking in. Our family had lunch here and thoroughly enjoyed everything we got. For the table, we had anchors, ahi (blackened), and coconut shrimps. My husband liked his poke bowl, the kids plowed through their burritos and burgers. I thought the lettuce wrap was plentiful and yummy.
google avatar

Sheri B.

Yelp
Loved the vibe and Christmas decorations. Generous portion sizes and fare pricing. Just a tiny itty bitty smidge on bland side.

Yelp
Mark and I enjoyed a late lunch here after exploring Hanalei town. This restaurant is in the middle of Hanalei and convenient for exploring the shops and galleries. Free parking lots are located on both sides of the road. Arrive early and plan carefully since parking can be a challenge. This is a casual sports bar type place with open dining to the elements. There is not Airconditioning however the dining area is cool and covered in shade. Chickens roam freely in the dining area just like in other establishments. It's part of the charm. This is a very popular restaurant so plan on checking in with the hostess and getting on the waitlist. They take your name and cellphone and text you updates for your table. Multiple televisions are located in the dining area with various sports events broadcast. People will be cheering for the games so be aware that this is not a quiet romantic experience. We had fun watching the games and meeting new friends at the adjacent tables. The menu has lots of great craft cocktails and beer options. The food is elevated bar food and we loved all of it!! Our cocktails were inventive and strong! We ordered the Ahi Tuna tostadas and they were delicious!!! The seasoning was perfect! The calamari strips are so large that they resemble chicken tenders and they were cooked and seasoned to perfection. We had a great time hanging out here and enjoying the drinks, the food and the people!!! Love this place!!

Houra G.

Yelp
Great food! We had the cali burrito, ahi and calamari wraps, calamari meal and they were bomb. The bartender put do much effort making those drinks for a full house, not much so for the girlie who served us though. Too bad it didn't make a full great experience. She was in such a bad mood and was giving even the staff a hard time. She didn't give us waters and didn't refill our water, mid order left and came back. So rude...
google avatar

Sharece B.

Yelp
Kalypso's in the place to stop in for a beverage or to enjoy the tourist vibes in the town. But if you're in it for the food, you might be disappointed. While the fish tacos were ok, the tropical mahi tacos were less than desirable. I wouldn't recommend either. That said, if you're looking for a chill vibe in Hanalei, this might be the place for you.
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
Food was great, beer was cold and a refreshing decor. It was one of my favorites for lunch. And everyone was great and friendly like everyone else I ran into.
google avatar

Grethel D.

Yelp
The coconut shrimp was rancid. I let our server know the coconut was rancid and didn't taste fresh. He apologized but did not offer to remove from check. I actually let him know so he could let the chef know to taste it. We really wanted to like it. Unfortunately not so good and pricey.
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
It looks nice and has a view of the street. Inside, the music is nice. The waiter had us waiting forever; two other tables got their drinks before us, even though they came in after we did. Our drinks came out with our food, but due to a mix-up, my husband's arrived 10 minutes later. So maybe they're not finding enough help and are short-staffed. The food was good, and my drink was too.
google avatar

Bijana K.

Yelp
After seeing the lively atmosphere inside and sometimes lines outside, we finally ventured in one afternoon after kayaking nearby. Enjoyed nachos and a few drinks and had a great time. Nacho portion was ample, taste was good, service was friendly and the atmosphere was lively. We watched some futbol on the tvs, someone at a nearby table was reading and other families were joking and having fun. It felt like the place to be and I won't hesitate to come again.
google avatar

Gina S.

Yelp
Kalypso Island had a very cool vibe and great location in Hanalei. On the evening we went, service was definitely on the slow side but the drinks were good. I had the Kalypso Vice and enjoyed it thoroughly. I tried to order the panko parmesan crusted mahi but they were out of the mahi so instead I had the Blackened Fish with crab stuffed shrimp. The fish was a little on the bland side but the shrimp were quite good...I was wishing I had more shrimp! My husband had the Seafood Pasta. He enjoyed it but thought the sauce needed a bit more flavor. Overall this place had a great atmosphere with great drinks but food was just ok for me.
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Nice place yo enjoy the afternoon breeze with a beverage and pupu. Busy, crowded day in Hanalei stopped for a drink and a snack after walking the garden. Enjoyed the Dirty Coffee, shared the Ahi Tostadas with the hubs who had a Mai Tai followed by the OMG beer. Great place to people and chicken watch
google avatar

Sally W.

Yelp
The workers bring your food and give you the bill before your done hamburger was so hard will never go again felt they were rude and why all the pickles lol
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Coconut shrimp appetizer was delicious! The service was good. We ordered fish and chips and huli chicken . The fish was excellent the chicken was just ok
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
The piña coladas are to die for. Happy hour is fantastic - between the HH food and drink options we barely had a chance to order off the actual menu, which also had some tasty looking items! I could easily eat three orders of the coconut shrimp it was THAT good. We had GREAT service (shout out Ziggy!!!). All around great vibes, food, and drinks. Will be going back a second time during our time on Kauai! Update: came back and the blacked fish and shrimp was a 13/10. I'm so happy.

Yelp
This place was pretty busy when we ate lunch in Hanalei, Kauai. I ordered the calamari and ahi lettuce wraps. The portions are pretty big. Our server was busy as I ordered a beer and took a long time to come. I asked the server again and she said it was coming. My sister ordered the mahi mahi tostada and the picture is below. I forgot to take a picture of my dish. My sister and my mom enjoyed the mahi mahi. My mom ordered the calamari. We just have been hungry since I didn't take pictures of their dishes as well. This place is in Hanalei across from the shops. After lunch we went shopping and sonr be surprised to see some chicken inside the restaurant. You can't feed the chickens and they won't bother you.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
My seared ahi was yum and my husband said his fish tacos were good too, kids also enjoyed their Mac n cheese. A bit pricey, but we're in Hawaii, gotta pay tourists price. Good service, waitress nice and attentive
google avatar

Yelp
We've been coming to Kauai for 18 yrs and when on the North Shore, Kalypso is always our first stop. I've seen complaints about service and fortunately we have never experienced that. It's always been great! The drinks here are amazing- they do not skimp on the alcohol. But I come for the food. The blackened mahi mahi sandwich is a personal fav and my husband loves the fish tacos and their nachos. But I've never had anything here I didn't enjoy. Slow down and enjoy island life- be patient and have a seat here. You'll have a great time!!
google avatar

Sam P.

Yelp
Such a reliable spot for food no matter the time of day. We went twice on our vacation. For lunch I had a poke bowl and Modelo- delicious For dinner I had their macadamia nut pesto pasta which was perfection. The service both times was fantastic and truly a lovely ambiance. A must if you are in Hanalei
google avatar

Molly L.

Yelp
The food here was fine. We came here during happy hour and the drinks were $2 off and there was also a happy hour menu. I got the happy hour nachos with no meat and my partner got the seafood pasta. The nachos were bland and not cooked well. The black beans they had in it were still wet and drenched the chips, making them soggy with bean juice. There was cheese on the sides but otherwise the proportions of beans to cheese was not right and the rest of the toppings like sour cream, green onions, olives, tomatoes, salsa, didn't taste that fresh and more like something I could have made at home. My partner was also disappointed with his pasta dish. Although the seafood was fresh, the pasta sauce was lacking and the garlic bread was just okay. The service was lacking too - never was our water refilled and it took awhile before our server took our order. She must have forgotten about us since at least one other table after us got their waters before us.

Yelp
Walked right in at lunch time, party of 8, no wait. Food came pretty fast and surprisingly the cost was pretty affordable. No complaints on the food. It was good.
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
The hostess/seating situation is absurd. We just wanted to grab a drink at the bar and had to wait for 20 minutes to even speak to a hostess to be seated at bar seats which were empty from the time we arrived. Unadvertised happy hour was $10 Mai Tais (reg $16) and $5 drafts. Ahi Carpaccio was delicious. Drinks are good. Live music is entertaining.
google avatar

Constantine J.

Yelp
This place always seems to be bumpin'! Crowded with plenty of locals and visitors. The vibe seems like a fun watering hole in Hanalei. After a long hike through Hanea State Park, this was a great place to fuel up. They've got indoor and patio seating with TVs to watch sports. Their beer is served cold 33 degrees, making it that much more refreshing. Their menu has a bit of everything. You can't go wrong. I ordered the Ahi Poke + Calamari lettuce wraps and the Mahi tacos. Very flavorful dishes. However, the calamari was so tough and overcooked that it took away from the dish. The Mahi was a bit overcooked as well... they were still tasty dishes. However, I wish they were better cooked. Drew the bartender was great and made it an enjoyable experience. Recommend checking em out while you're in Hanalei!
google avatar

Jazzy S.

Yelp
We came in during the week, mainly for happy hour appetizers and drinks. The place was pretty busy, and we had to wait a bit to get seated. It was noisy and crowded, but still a fun time. The ambiance is like a typical Hawaiian tiki bar style. - Nachos (4/5): Loaded nachos, lots of toppings and lots going on. Yummy hour hour snack - Calmari (3.5/5): These were okay, not super crispy - Coconut shrimp (4/5): Good flavor and crispiness, kind of small portion - Wings (4/5): Lots of sauce, cooked well - Artichoke dip (3.5/5): Basic artichoke dip, basic chips but good overall
google avatar

Yelp
Step into a vibrant paradise where the TVs are so bright they might just give you a tan! The happy hour menu is a delightful treasure trove of large portions and drinks so tempting you'll want to try them all. Just a heads up: the mixed drinks are on the sweeter side, so if you're not into liquid candy, you might want to stick to the classics. The service here is lightning fast, with staff who greet you with a smile so warm it could melt the ice in your drink. The regular menu is just as impressive, boasting generous portions and a variety that would make a buffet blush. Whether you're in for a quick bite or to catch the big game, this place scores a touchdown every time. Highly recommend!

Yelp
There was such a long wait around 6-7pm, so we came back closer to 8pm and were seated right away. Their poke bowl was OK but my friend who also had it felt queasy afterwards. The food was mediocre but was the only place we could get in at such a busy Friday night. Definitely need reservations around Hanalei if you want to dine anywhere good. Will try to come back again for lunch hour, but won't go back for dinner time. Service was good, the waitress was very attentive.
