10 Wheelchair Accessible Beaches in the U.S.

"Some of the best and most accessible beaches on Maui are found at Kama’ole Beach Park. There are three stretches of sand — Kama’ole I, II, and III. Head to Kama’ole I, which has an accessible water fountain, shower, and beach chairs, and Kama’ole II, which has a ramp to the sand and ADA parking and pathways." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Google
Great beach to stand up paddle out from. Recommend going super early to avoid the wind. 7am is a good time. If you hug the rocks and have a seat on your board you’re bound to see some turtles. Water is so clear and shallow you can see the coral and all its details. Not a very crowded beach even on weekends. 10/10 recommend and very kid friendly

Google
Sunsets are the best here. Has shower to wash off sand at the top before going down. Stairs are full of sand which is hot so be prepared for that to burn. Couple of picnic tables and small waves. Water is better than kam II. Across from a store that sells drinks and food and a mini shopping center. No shade or chairs. Being your own eveything. Will see a few turtles here and there.

Google
Loved this beach, easily found parking and very accessible. In the morning, the sand and water were perfect for us and our 3 year old. Wind picks up making the water rougher in the afternoon. There is a shower and washroom by the parking lot.

Amir Lopez

Google
Great beach to catch the sunset. Though, keep in mind, that there is a decent crowd that has the same idea. The crowd builds up an hour before sunset, and leaves right after.

Kooroush Mansourzadeh

Google
This beach has a beach wheelchair that allows physically disabled or partially disabled individuals to get into the water! You can’t see it but just need to ask the lifeguards for it and they are super helpful and nice about it. Thank you for an awesome experience!

Google
One of the best beaches in Kihei, so so pretty. Very spacious and clean. One of the only things that is a trouble is the parking.

Mihir Ganu

Google
This beach has the most breathtaking sunsets! It is never too crowded and the beach is very well maintained.

Amanda Kneeland

Google
This beach was GREAT!!!! not too busy, easy to get too, soft sand and clear water. No chairs or umbrella so bring your own but they do have a life guard. There is a store you can pick up some food from RIGHT across the street and shaved ice. You can also get floating toys$5-10 and snorkeling gear for $15 at the store. There are bathrooms (no soap) and a outdoor shower to clean up on.

Yelp
Great beach - hard slamming surf good for kids to play but can hurt so be careful Easy parking

Yelp
Waves aren't too strong, great for kids, and there is a a lifeguard station and restrooms. There's a small parking lot in front. We went early, like 8:30AM, and it wasn't too crowded. Even by mid morning it wasn't too packed, which was nice. It's not the prettiest beach in Maui but it's still nice!

Yelp
Great Beach for daytime ocean swims as well as evening strolls. Soft sand and spacious area to sit with easy access and a foot and body washing station at the end of the day.

Yelp
Kihei's Best-Kept Secret [Maui] This is a nice beach that's easy walking distance from our resort in Kihei. They are usually called by their shortened nicknames ("Kam I," "Kam II," and "Kam III"). The beaches are within walking distance of each other. We watched the sunset from Kamaole I and did an evening stroll... the first two beaches are the largest. We were there during the week of Labor Day and there were lots of people swimming even until after sunset. The beach is located on South Kihei Road. There is limited parking on the beach side but there is also an empty lot available across the street. Our place was just walking distance from the beach so we walked there most of the time. A large grassy area is at the south end for picnics and playing. There are picnic tables, barbecue grills and benches but shops and food are walking distance too. On 9/9/22 the parking area was flooded when an isolated downpour caused a crazy flash flood. The heavy rains caused temporary road closures on S Kihei Road from Waimahaihai Street to Kanani Road and we were diverted everywhere. We caught the peak of it as we were coming home from Lahaina. The next day residents were in cleanup mode. Great beach for some sun and fun but we missed seeing the sea turtles :( Review #2690

Yelp
In honor of Yelp's month-long celebration of Earth Day (where they're encouraging reviews of beautiful nature spots and sustainable, eco-friendly businesses), this review is long overdue for Kamaole I. I was lucky enough to stay in Kihei again for 2 weeks last month, and our rental was within walking distance to Kam I. Sometimes we accessed Kam I Beach from Charley Young Beach to the north, since the two beaches are connected and you can't really tell where one ends and the other begins...it's like one long, beautiful, white-sand beach! Other times, we accessed it from the south side by the grassy park area when we walked across from Hawaiian Moons Natural Foods (a great local market btw to pick up lunch or beach snacks!). Though we always walked or rode bikes here, there is a small parking lot for you if you're driving in. If that's full, there's also a parking lot across the street right next to a little gas station and ABC Store. This is an all-around great beach for solos, couples, families...everyone! There are picnic tables, showers, a public restroom, a lifeguard tower, and plenty of sand to park your bodies & booties on to soak up that glorious Hawaiian sun! *If you see a Honu (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle) resting on the beach, please remember to respect the marine life and stay at least 10 feet away. Aloha!

Yelp
We went to watch the truly gorgeous sunset from this beach one of our first nights in Maui. Parking was easy and just across the street. The beach itself at that time of day was relatively narrow but sparsely populated. I did go in the water which was gentle and lovely. There's a lot of activity going on in the City park behind the beach so it definitely feels more like a City park and less like a resort fronting beach - but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Yelp
I love this place. It's nice to relax and just listen to the ocean sounds. When I'm in town I throw flowers out to honor those who are now angels who have touched my life.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
What a sight at night. Can't beat these parks with a beach. The crescent moon is glistening a nice reflection onto the water, the only source of light at night by the park. It's les than 1/5 file from the condo we are staying at this weekend.
google avatar

Virgilynn B.

Yelp
Clean beach, plenty of parking, and a good spot to see whales in a far distance but sea turtles close to shore.
google avatar

Yelp
Kamaole I Beach was an easy walk from our WorldMark Kihei accommodations. Gayle, Jim, Erin, and I were here several times over a recent Maui stay to enjoy warm water, the sun, snorkeling, walks along the beach, and an occasional Turtle. Bathrooms, showers, life guard coverage, and adult beverages from the ABC Store (across the street) were readily available. The sunsets and whale watching were fabulous. As we were here under COVID restrictions, crowd size was way down, making for a much more relaxing experience. Snorkeling was a bit of a mixed bag as Jim and I got cut up on the rocks (at the point), while Gayle experiences some breathing issues, and Erin ended up with an infection thanks to a little water in the ear. That's not the beach's fault of course.
google avatar

Leah A.

Yelp
A solid beach! Took a bunch of beach selfies here, they turned out great! Definitely kid friendly. Nearby bathrooms, grassy area with picnic tables, clean beach, life guard on duty and the coral isn't too close to the shore (but can definitely swim over there to check out the fish!) Free parking too and near a bunch of restaurants like Coconuts Fish Tacos, Kihei Cafe, Maui Bread Company and shopping spots! I'd definitely come back here!
google avatar

Evangelene G.

Yelp
Kamaoloe I, II and III are literally next to each other and walkable. Our VRBO was across the street from Kam II, so we spent most of our time there. Kam I is definitely the larger and more family friendly of the three Kam beaches with parking, lifeguard station, restrooms and showers. I had a nice walk along the beach. It's across the street from the Texaco/ABC store in case you need/forgot anything.
google avatar

Yelp
Great beach for a walk or shoreline run in the early AM. The sand is clean and soft enough, but firm so you don't feel you're sinking in with every step. The water tends to be pretty calm as well. Lifeguard station is present along with rinse off stations. There's a small picnic area at one end of the beach with some benches and tables. One downside is limited shade during daytime. Parking is super easy with a small lot and extension lot across the street next to the corner store. Highly recommend visiting the multiple food trucks a block away and bringing some over.
google avatar

Lori C.

Yelp
What's not to like? Lifeguards, kids, families clean water, bathrooms showers ...this is the 3rd beach in the Kamaole group all are lovely.
google avatar

Sudesna M.

Yelp
Sandy beach. Serene waters. Gentle waves. Quiet and clean. Beautiful sunset. Surrounded by mountains on one side. The windmills on the mountains add a touch of glamour to the whole scene. Just perfect for taking those awesome sunset pics. Kamaole Park 3 is best of the 3 beach parks. Good for snorkeling. We saw more than a few turtles swim by. All the parks have shaded and picnic areas too. Not so touristy and over crowded. Clean restrooms and shower areas available. Free parking is the added bonus. Just take your beach chairs, sunscreen and relax in the sands! If you are hungry there is the market place right opposite Kamaole Beach Park 2. Some cool restaurants like Three Bar Grill and Paia Fish market just across the street. Open late until 10pm. Must visit when in Kihei!
google avatar

Sharon T.

Yelp
Nice white sand beach, nice to walk on. Has a lifeguard. Sand volleyball court, bathroom & beach shower. Very small parking lot at beach but a larger dirt lot across S Kihei road. Not much shade so may need to bring an umbrelthere is a handicapped beach access ranp but was under repair when we were there. Gets very crowded.
google avatar

Giselle E.

Yelp
Great family friendly beach that was walking distance from our timeshare WorldMark Kihei. Soft sand, mellow waves, grass areas, benches, and showers. There is no shade here, however we didn't want/need shade. We went here multiple times during our stay. Close to an ABC store Incase you want snacks or drinks.
google avatar

Tracy M.

Yelp
The most perfect beach, with the best warm temperature water, in the most perfect location, near our vacay air bnb... Mahalo Maui for treating us so well!!! We will return later on....((smile))
google avatar

Jerry C.

Yelp
Honestly is there a bad beach on Maui? Kamaole l Park is a great family beach with a gradual slope into the water for swimming. Granted safety is always important for swimming in the ocean. Has some nice places for snorkeling. There is also a lifeguard posted at this beach. Also has a water wash off station which we have found very valuable when playing on the beach. Overall you can't go wrong with this beach! Catching the sunset is amazing.

Yelp
Back at da beach baby. I really enjoy laying and tanning the body out here. The sand is good between the toes and waves aren't neck breakers pounding your carcass into the shoreline.its a real day of leisure here. Parking is no issue since there is a small parking lot 10ft from the sand and a full parking lot across the street next to ABC store. Coincidentally you can wander over to the ABC store which BTW is fully air conditioned and grab beverages and treats to picnic on the beach. Lifeguards are stationed on this beach so your safe to enter the water but don't be a fool and venture off the shore line cause there are big man eating tiger sharks in area and some lady 2 days ago swimming 30 to 40 yards out found out the hard way. Ok I'll spell it out she was a victim of da Hawaiian Shark Attack so just be careful. I'll be back again and again and always with tube of sun screen to protect my lovely skin. Have fun at the beach I know I did.
google avatar

Dominique A.

Yelp
I like this beach! I went to this beach with some friends and everyone loved it! The sand is smooth and the current is enjoyable.. safe for kids!! I like beaches with no rocks.. so if you like beaches with rocks this is not for you! BUT PERFECT FOR snorkeling teehee
google avatar

Joann A.

Yelp
Clean beach with bathrooms, showers and a park area with shade and a grass area if you want to avoid the sand and hot sun. Parking lot is small but there's plenty of parallel parking available down the street.
google avatar

Vince N.

Yelp
The Kamaole Beach Parks, or Kam 1, 2, and 3 for short, are fairly large sandy beaches, each separated by condos, along South Kihei Road. #1 is my favorite for a few reasons. PARKING: There's a tiny parking lot near the life guard station, a dirt parking lot across from that, and a few parallel stalls along South Kihei Road. Access to the beach can't get any easier than this! THE BEACH: Soft yellow sand occupies this good-sized beach. The views are of Kahoolawe, Molokini Crater, Lanai, and the West Maui Mountains. Sunsets are gorgeous. The waters are usually calm, so it's great for swimming, and mild boogie & body surfing. The ocean floor is free of rocks and even reefs, though there is a small shelf at the south end near the Royal Mauian condos, so snorkeling isn't really its strong point. At the south end of the beach is a tree-shaded, grass park with cement picnic tables. The beachgoers are mainly tourists, and is very safe due to being so open, occupied, and close to the road. You'll probably never see any wedding parties taking pics here because there'd be too many people in their precious backgrounds! FACILITIES: There are cold water showers, trash cans, and clean bathrooms in great shape that are ALWAYS stocked with soap! Yes!! A life guard is on duty as well. FOOD & BEVERAGE: Just across the street is an ABC Store, Pizza Hut, and numerous other restaurants and shops. Super convenient. OVERALL: An obvious but slightly hidden gem!

Yelp
This is a great family beach with life guards . Great for swimming and laying out. If you want to snorkel go by the rocks between kam 1 and 2 . The main part if this beach has smooth sand under the water so kids don't have to worry about tripping over rocks in water. You might see a turtle hanging out. If you get hungry there are food trucks up the street and ABC store across . There is a shower station,Public restrooms and Volleyball court. Sunsets here are amazing. Plenty of parking .

Yelp
Great Views!! Soft Sand!! Short distance from the curb to the water!! No Complaints.. Right across from my hotel!!

Yelp
One reason I really enjoy this beach is because it's a 5 minute walk from my home. But it really is a nice all around beach. It's great for a beach walk, a swim, sup, snorkeling (to the left) reading a book and just relaxing. One thing I really like is that there is a good size grassy area where you can find shade. The grass is also nice in the afternoon when the trades blow. You can still sit and gaze at the water without getting totally sand blasted. The grass is also a nice picnic/sunset watch area. There are a few grills, tables, and even a few benches too. There are a few palm trees close enough to hang a hammock too. There is a lifeguard stand which is great for beach safety. Just be aware that they aren't always on duty. There's a small parking lot behind the lifeguard stand. Then you can also park across the street in the lot next to ABC. You can also park along the street too. I don't give this beach 5 stars because while it's really great, the water often isn't clear. I sound spoiled just typing this, but hey we're fortunate to have some stunning beaches on Maui. Plus be aware that in the early mornings and evenings (at dark) there are homeless people who come around. I've only been harassed a few times, but it's enough to make me avoid it during those hours.
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
One of my favorite beaches on Maui. Small parking lot but there is a large dirt lot directly across street for additional parking. The water is very clear here and usually calm. Decent snorkeling off the left side of the beach by the rocks. The beach also has a lifeguard station and restrooms. There has always been plenty of room when we have gone and it never feels crowded. Great choice while in Kihei/Wailea area.
google avatar

Yelp
Kamaole 1 Park was recommended to us by a few people on our cruise ship. My group of 18 trekked out to the beach and we were pleasantly surprised at the amazing views and crystal clear water. I cannot believe the views, I'm pictured at the beach in my profile picture, I couldn't believe the backdrop was real it looks photoshopped! This beach is simple, yet beautiful, there is a strip mall behind where you can rent beach gear if you don't have a thing-which is what we did. There are benches and large trees located at the entrance to the beach for those who need to cool off in the shade or hide from the sun. The water is not rough at all it's great for floating, snorkeling, and seeing the occasional sea turtle. It wasn't crowded at all we were there on Sunday in the early morning with- plenty of space to sprawl out. If you're hungry or thirsty there is a bunch of stores located on the strip! Great beach!
google avatar

Logie Z.

Yelp
AWESOME FOR LITTLE KIDS. CLGOD (cute life guards on duty)...of course I have to make sure there are life guards just in case. I love the easy parking right on the beach or across the street by ABC store. The beach has nice buttery sand and calm surf during the summer. This is the place to go when the whole island is drenched in tropical rain. Good for boogie boarding when there's a little surf. Not so good for snorkeling (cloudy and no fish). My son loves to look for rock crabs on the south side of the beach among the rocks. Don't forget the umbrella and little ones' sand toys!
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
This was a great place to spend the morning. The beach is clean with gorgeous sand and plenty of space to lay your towel. It does get a bit crowded, but there's plenty of parking and you'll be able to find a spot to call your own. We did see one sea turtle in the water, but not much else. We saw a ton of sea turtles at Kamaole III Park, so that might be a better spot if you are looking to snorkel. This beach worked perfectly for swimming and hanging out.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
Beautiful long serene stretches of beach that is easy to get to and from. Nuff said, just GO! SEE. DO!
google avatar

Scott F.

Yelp
Cool beach to just sit on a beach towel and chill or it is fun to go snorkeling to see some of sea life. In the late afternoon and early evening you can see sea turtles swimming at the far corner of the beach near the houses or apartments.
google avatar

Anya H.

Yelp
This beach was right across the street from our hotel, Maui Coast. A lot of people seemed to be parked along the beach. Not too crowded with plenty of open areas to lay your towel or put it an umbrella to lay out. With golden sand the water was nice to get into and no rocks. It's a pretty small beach with some picnic looking areas near it. It's a beach to chill out - no parasailing, jet skiing, etc.
google avatar

Ravena F.

Yelp
This is a great AM and sunset beach: In the AM, you get: - quite a long stretch of calm, pristine swimming along the shore out by the buoys, going up and back between the two rock outcrops - fair snorkeling by the rocks - 2 resident sea turtles, that you are virtually guaranteed to see if you look by the southern end of rocks. (I happened to swim about 2 feet right over one on accident one day. He just lay there and moved his head from side to side, watching me. Hi honu friend!) - gorgeous, fine and soft white sands to lie out on, listening to the waves crashing in the background In the PM, you get: - increased wind and tide action, rendering swimming north-bound rather cumbersome and inducing of the dreaded SWiL (Salt-Water in Lungs) - increased wind on the beach, meaning sun-bathing becomes slightly less relaxing as you are pelted with billions of tiny grains of sand (though perhaps a free exfoliation is another way to look at this) Then of course at sunset, you get: THE Maui sunset. The one you hear about. The one that compels locals and tourists alike to come down and watch, literally cheering at the climactic moment.
google avatar

Jeannie S.

Yelp
I love this beach because it's just across the street from my hotel. It's always clean and there is an outdoor shower to clean off the sand before walking back to your car or hotel. There are lifeguards on duty to keep all us beach goers safe too. This beach has some picnic areas with table and benches, and a sand volleyball court too. People are playing volleyball all day and into the night too! There are conveniences of the ABC Store right across the street and this beach had bathrooms too, which I thought were clean & maintained well.
google avatar

Alicia M.

Yelp
Full of tourists, parking is a b... pretty windy but conveniently IN Kihei if driving a little further along isn't an option.
google avatar

Charles C.

Yelp
Out of all the beaches my family went to on the west side of Maui the Kamaole Park Beaches were by far our all around favorite. Most of the rocks were in plain sight and the undertow was not bad. The sand was nice and the shoreline is flat. There are nice spots for supervised toddlers to play and one can enjoy some challenging body surfing. If you're not up for the drive to some of the more picturesque or sought after beaches don't worry because these South Kihea beaches are great!
google avatar

Iris L.

Yelp
If you are looking to hang out somewhere for the whole day with the family, this is the place. It has sand, grass, trees, rocks and even amenities. All in one. Definitely one of the very best beach parks on Maui! It is a long and narrow park against the ocean. There is a parking lot and bathroom in the north end. The south part has good snorkeling area and also outdoor shower. There is plenty of big trees and grassy areas. The sunset is always beautiful. The water quality is much higher than North Kihei. All in all, very good park. I often recommend it to others. Also easy walk to eateries. Which is a bonus.
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
Great for keiki (kids) with very gentle waves and plenty of sand for playing. Very windy after midmorning, so umbrella weights are a must. Don't even try a beach tent. Park I is nice, but III is a bit better with good snorkeling at the North end and shade trees near the beach.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
Nice soft sands, convenient, easy parking. Convenience stores across the street! Nice beach that doesn't get too crowded on the week days. You're also in walking distance to awesome stores/restaurants like Cruz Tacos, Cinnamon Fair, Maui Gelato, Cafe O'Lei and tons more! Go rent a chair (from Boss Frog across the street!) for cheap and even make it mo betta!
google avatar

Mae S.

Yelp
Gorgeous sand, mountain and distant island views, lifeguards watching over you, good close-in snorkeling, lapping Pacific waves (sometimes crashing), grassy picnic areas above the dunes, decently maintained public showers and restrooms, and it's not at all crowded by most standards. Early in the morning it's like a dream -- almost deserted in the flickering shadows of the trees nearby. I saw a snowflake eel under a rock in waist-deep water.
google avatar

Kim l.

Yelp
So there is Kamaole I, II and III. Hubby's said that he read online that I was the best one for snorkeling. We parked in front and jumped in. Saw some amazing fish, corals and a gang of sting rays. That was pretty scary actually. Good spot to snorkel right off the beach. Soft sand. They have restroom facilities near the beach.
google avatar

Mitzi D.

Yelp
I love this beach. Most people see the small parking lot and think they are full but really across the street is an empty dirt lot where everyone is able to park and is still very close and accessible to this beach. Its not usually over crowded, the sand is quite shallow and soft to the feet. Great for swimming laps. There are two bbq areas, a volleyball net and bathrooms WITH DOORS!! I don't think its a place for snorkeling but this past winter we did see 4 turtles during one of our many visits. In the summer any time after noon this is a windy beach with choppy water. In the winter its rougher water but not as rough as a northern beach. Its my favorite easily accessible beach on the whole island.
google avatar

Rach K.

Yelp
Yay! Amazing beach with super soft sand (like walking on fine flour) and decent snorkeling. When we went, the water was really clear and we saw lots of little fish. Someone said they saw 15+ turtles but I had no such luck. There's a nice view of the Molokini crater and the sunset is really gorgeous here.
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
There are a few Kamaole beaches down Kihei Rd. We happened to be staying across the street from Kamaole 2. It was cloudy the day we were there, (and there was the orange flag warning) but we could still see this was a great beach. I would definitely come back :)
google avatar

Jeff M.

Yelp
There are actually 3 beaches in a row that make up Kamaole beach. We were at Kamaole 1, I think! Parking was pretty easy. Rest rooms available although a bit dirty & no changing room was provided. They have showers to clean off the sand after you swim. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby if you need 'em. It was pretty rough the day we were here so not much snorkeling to be had but the boogie boarding was amazing, great waves. Sandy beach, easy on the feet. Great spot for a family day!
google avatar

Diana R.

Yelp
Great swimming/walking beach in the am. Nice fine sand straight that into the water. No rocks or coral bottom to worry about. Places to snorkel at either end. Maybe a little too popular at times, as we ended up with a large party plopping down right next to use on our last day. Not sure the boogie boarding would be very good here, especially in the summer. Waves just a little too small. This is another reason it's a great beach. No big waves to knock you down when you weren't looking, not that that's ever happened to me or anything. Oh, and an ABC store across the street on the south end, if you need some snacks, drinks, towels or have an urge to buy some tacky gifts while your friends are sunbathing.

Vedrana V.

Yelp
Another great Kamaole beach, excellent for swimming, snorkeling, watching the sunset. I recommend coming to these beaches in the morning when the water is most calm.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Great chill beach just walking distance from the condo we were staying at. Bring a towel, sunscreen and a beach chair to spend your day beach bumming! Water is calmer in morning for paddleboarding or snorkeling.
