Kamei is an Asian restaurant located on the ground floor of El Deco Centre, just opposite Latoya. Inside, it’s pretty dimly lit (so much so that my husband had trouble reading the menu, for which they ended up bringing him a clip-on light!). It’s quite stylishly decorated, though: rather minimalistic and elegant. The dining area spreads out across several connected spaces, with one separate area centred round the bar.
The menu runs the gamut from Chinese to Korean, Japanese, Thai and more, with plenty of choices in dimsums, wok-based dishes, curries and so on. We decided to skip a starter and go directly for a main course: Korean chicken (with vegetables and a butter-gochujang sauce), Asian greens, and a burnt garlic fried rice with egg (you can also order it with chicken, prawn, etc). While we waited for our meal, we were served a small portion of rice crisps, to go with the very good condiments on the table.
The food was uniformly excellent, and service was good. Prices are a little steep, but in keeping with the upmarket style of El Deco. Definitely recommended.
