Hakuchoro is a classic in Kanzawa, the decor is very tastefully done and the overall atmosphere has character.  It’s onsen is natural spring water and though the bath are relatively modest, it never gets crowded.  They provide free bus shuttles to and from the Kanazawa station and is a very helpful feature. Rooms are large and well appointed and everything in the fridge - water, tea, orange juice and beers are free and topped up everyday. The stained glass in the lobby area and in the rooms are nice touched included the very nice pottery ware used for breakfast! Breakfast buffet spread is both western and Japanese and they even now have sparkling wine and sake for breakfast! Definitely has character!

We were honestly surprised by how far this hotel falls short of its claimed five-star standard. The first thing that hit us upon arrival was the smell of grilled meat in the lobby — the restaurant is right next to the reception, and apparently there’s no proper ventilation. This is something we’ve never experienced in Japan, where even small restaurants have excellent air extractors. The onsen facilities look extremely outdated, as if they haven’t been renovated in decades. Another unpleasant experience was in the lobby: the hotel’s violinist, who performs near the reception area (where guests are constantly checking in and asking questions), actually scolded someone in front of us for trying to sort out a train issue over the phone. It was awkward and unprofessional. The beds are uncomfortable, and the air conditioning system is very basic — it only has three fan speeds, with no option to adjust the temperature, which means the room never really cools down properly. As for the restaurant, we strongly advise against trying the tasting menu. It’s a very traditional local meal, but the price is excessive for what it offers, and honestly, we didn’t enjoy it at all. Overall, this hotel does not live up to its five-star label. There are far better options in Japan that provide genuine comfort, modern facilities, and professional service.

Amazing location, a short walk to the Higashi Chaya District, the Castle Park, Kenraku-en Garden, Omi-Cho Market and more. The hotel is charming, impeccably maintained. The rooms are well-outfitted with a free mini-bar. In the lobby, a violinist and a pianist add to the old-world ambience. Beyond that, the hotel staff is gracious and unfailingly helpful.

Well located hotel in Kanazawa, at walking distance from all interesting touristic sites. Underground parking, which is convenient. Very friendly, somewhat formal, welcome at the reception. Room was not very big but offered all the necessary comfort. Breakfast was very extensive, with mostly typical Japanese dishes, but also a corner with some western options. One evening, we also had dinner in the restaurant, which was very good. The onsen however, was not the nicest I have seen on this trip.

This hotel is utterly amazing. The location is very close to the Kenroku-en and to the Kanazawa castle, and it is a few minutes walk to the shopping streets and the Samurai mansions. The hall is beautiful, with a classy, elegant, classic feel to it. The rooms are large, beautifully furnished, with wifi, air conditioning, a large bathtub and comfortable beds. Complimentary water and tea are available, as well as stationery. The whole place as an air of sophistication and elegance, as well as a feel of old glory that still feels actual. The hotel has the same amenities one would expect from a 4 star hotel, but it has a much more high class feel to it, from the elegant rooms to the gold leaf glasses to the sliding window panels and brocade curtains. Even the fact you still have an old style key to access your room rather than the anonymous-looking keycards plays on the sophisticated, classic elegance of this hotel. The service is impeccable, with the staff handling your luggage with the utmost care, going beyond the already amazing japanese hospitality. The hotel also features a small onsen which is fed by a local mineral hot spring, as well as live music in the early evening. Probably the best hotel I had the pleasure of staying at. Unfortunately I had just one night planned, but I surely hope I'll be a guest once more.

We really liked this hotel. Just a short taxi ride from the main station and great place for exploring Kenrokuen and other Kanazawa attractions. Mainly local tourists which gave it a different feel to some of the city centre hotels we stopped in. Breakfast were excellent with a very wide range of dishes. Lovely onsen which was perfect for some relaxation after a busy day around Kanazawa.

We received a very warm welcome at the Sanraku Hotel. The lady was very thorough explaining everything to us and offered to help us take our bags to our room. The room itself was lovely quite spacious with everything you would expect. The hotel is also very generous with the complementary waters, teas and coffees. Breakfast is very well organised with lots of choices. There is a lovely bar and restaurant serving great food and drinks.

Excellent location and value! Right next to the castle and Kenroku-en, the hotel couldn't be better situated for seeing the sights of Kanazawa. Really unique style and rooms. We booked a junior suite, which due to the layout with the divider in the middle wasn't as spacious or practical as we were expecting, but for the value we got it for, no complaints at all (we're only two people, so in future would probably not have booked a junior suite again). For a one or two night stay to see the sights of Kanazawa, this hotel is perfect.
