The Kanku-BreakÂaways ConÂserÂvaÂtion Park covÂers almost 15,000 hectares feaÂturÂing majesÂtic arid scenery. The area is home to almost 60 native floÂra species includÂing acaÂcias, mallee and ereÂmophilÂia. It is also home to a variÂety of wildlife, includÂing red kanÂgaÂroos, euro, echidÂna, numerÂous bird species and the fat-tailed dunÂnart (a mouse-like marsupial). The Kanku-BreakÂaways ConÂserÂvaÂtion Park forms part of the traÂdiÂtionÂal counÂtry of the AntakirÂinÂja MatunÂtÂjara YankunÂytÂjatÂjara peoÂple. It is owned by AntakirÂinÂja Matu-YankunÂytÂjatÂjara AboÂrigÂiÂnal CorÂpoÂraÂtion (AMYÂAC). The park is under a unique co-manÂageÂment agreeÂment between the AMYÂAC, DisÂtrict CounÂcil of Coober Pedy and DepartÂment for EnviÂronÂment and Water (DEW).
