This fortress is really amazing both from inside and outside. The admission fee is just 4 Euros, which is worth paying. The views of the city of Herceg Novi is breathtaking. We learnt that the originally it was a prison and translated the Bloody Tower (from Turkish). It was built in the 16th century by Turks. Currently there are some cultural events taking places, as there is a large open-air amphitheather on the top. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

A 16th-century fortress built by the Turks, originally a prison and translated as the Bloody Tower, is currently used for various cultural events (it has a large open-air amphitheater with over 1,000 seats). Its location on the Bay of Kotor undoubtedly creates a beautiful landscape on the coast.

Kanli Kula is a fortress on top of Herceg Novi. It cost €4 per person, it gives a nice panoramic view of the town , but other than that if there’s no event nothing much

A Place with Soul and Potential Herceg Novi is one of those places that captures the heart with its genuine beauty, historical charm, and the gentle sparkle of the Adriatic Sea. Perfectly located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, it offers everything from old Venetian walls to lively narrow streets filled with cafés and the scent of orange trees. It’s easy to understand why the town is called "the city of the sun" – not just for its warm climate, but also for the warmth of its people. But behind the beautiful surface, there’s also room for growth. The city deserves more investment in both the restoration of its historical buildings and in its infrastructure. With the right efforts, Herceg Novi could thrive even more – not just as a summer gem, but as a year-round destination attracting visitors from around the world. To say that hell can be turned into paradise is a reflection of the power of vision and will – but the opposite is also true. Herceg Novi is already a kind of paradise, but without long-term care and investment, there’s a risk of losing what makes the place so unique. Montenegro holds a treasure in this town. With more attention, preservation, and modernization, Herceg Novi could become one of the most desirable destinations on the Mediterranean – a place where history, nature, and the present meet in perfect harmony. 4euros entry. Bigger than we expect and with good views of the town and the bay. We decided to come to this one as the other fortress was closed (although the initial idea was visiting both). When we asked the guy at the entrance why the other fortress was closed, he seemed strange as we weren't the first tourists asking the question as apparently it suppose to be open too.

Worth the visit and the step! Lovely views from the fortress. We were also able to buy a drink and chill out for a bit.

Worth a visit just for the view. However there was little information to give you much history and you could complete a walk around in about 5 minutes. Nice spot though at sunset. Entry is cheap.

Has interesting history and amazing view. Built by the Turks in 1539. It had many bloody wars. It’s name means “Bloody tower” in Turkish. Some source says this name is used because of killed Turkish solders by Venetians
