If you're looking for an unforgettable sushi experience, look no further than Kanpai !!! The menu boasts a stunning selection of fresh, high-quality sushi and sashimi, prepared with precision and artistry. Every bite is a testament to the chef’s expertise, with melt-in-your-mouth fish and perfectly seasoned rice. The omakase is a must-try, offering a curated selection of the best seasonal ingredients that will leave you in awe. Beyond the sushi, the restaurant also offers delicious appetizers, like crispy tempura, flavorful miso soup, and creative specialty rolls that are both visually stunning and packed with flavor. The sake selection is extensive, with knowledgeable staff ready to recommend the perfect pairing. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or simply looking for an outstanding meal, Kanpi delivers a dining experience that is nothing short of exceptional. The food was so delicious that I didn’t take a lot of pictures 😊. Highly recommended!

Dining at Kanpai Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill K's Bistoro Los Angeles was an unforgettable experience where surrendering control to the staff turned out to be the best decision of the night. The omakase-style approach let the chefs showcase their creativity with dishes that were not only visually stunning but bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors. Each course felt like a thoughtful surprise—whether it was melt-in-your-mouth toro, delicately seared scallops, or a playful twist on a classic roll. The staff’s intuition and passion for their craft made the meal feel personal and adventurous, like being guided through a secret menu only they could unlock. If you’re open to discovery and trust, this is the place to let go and be wowed.

I placed a pickup order for two Spicy Tuna Rolls and instead received hand rolls—despite clearly selecting “ROLL” on the menu. The restaurant’s own website shows photos of cut rolls, so it was obvious what I was expecting. When I called to resolve the issue, they refused to fix their mistake. Instead of apologizing or offering to send the correct items, they told me to walk back to the restaurant in the hot sun to return the food—even though the error was on their end. They didn’t offer to deliver the correct order or take any responsibility. They were apparently okay with losing a long-time customer over a $25 refund. I’ve been visiting this restaurant for over 5 years, and this was incredibly disappointing. To make matters worse, when I contacted their delivery platform (Dylish), the restaurant falsely claimed I received what I paid for—even though I have clear screenshots proving otherwise. The entire situation was handled unprofessionally, and no one seemed to care that I was sent the wrong order. Terrible customer service and zero accountability. I won’t be returning, and I recommend others order elsewhere.

Google
The food is superb. The chefs are artists. The staff goes over and above. I visit the restaurant in person every few months and order take out every week. They are so kind and often do small substitutions if requested. People drive from all over LA to visit this Kanpai, but locals in the neighborhood are regulars to this staple establishment. I gave one less star for atmosphere because for some reason the restaurant installed a TV, which diminishes the fine dining atmosphere of this pricey restaurant. It is a perfect date night spot, but a sports bar it is not—thank goodness.

Google
Excellent-quality sushi. We had the deluxe sushi sampler and the uni sampler and both were exceptional. The yellowtail collar lunch set was also wonderful. The service was kind and prompt! Will absolutely be returning.

Amazing atmosphere! The sushi chef crafted some of the most elegant dishes I have seen. High recommend.

Small restaurant near home, surprising good! Food is always fresh, has seasonal sashimi to choose from, very good service and cozy environment!

Google
Best sushi I've had. The quality, freshness, and price add up to the best value I've experienced for Omakase. No frills place, with a long history in LA, and excellent service/staff. Highly recommend going to any of their West side locations!

Yelp
One of my go to sushi spots in the area, we come here so often, at least once a month. The staff here are just amazing, everyone is so nice. Not to mention the foooooood. They have an omakase that changes often based on seasonal items and it is such a good meal. For $120 per person you get so much food so definitely go hungry if you plan on trying the omakase. They have a huge selection of both authentic items and items more "fusion". I always go for the authentic dishes but it's great to have the option if you are going with a larger group.

Yelp
The original Kanpai Sushi in Westchester now K's Bistro by Kanpai is still same with excellent food and service I will admit the word "bistro" describes the atmosphere in the Establishment more than a "sushi bar" Freshest fish and tasty broth if you order their ramen Staffing doesn't change - they were workers at Kanpai now K's for decades A definite must if you're in the area

Yelp
We sat at the bar, and the sushi chefs were super friendly. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and everything was served quickly. We also enjoyed a bottle of sake recommended by our waitress--it was excellent! The interior had a charming, traditional Japanese restaurant vibe--nothing too fancy but very cozy. We went during happy hour, so our bill was very reasonable considering how much we ordered. Overall, a great experience!

Yelp
I love Kanpai! One of my favorite spots for sushi! So when I was craving ramen today I stopped by on my way to work to get some to go. I was the only customer I the restaurant. I ordered the spicy miso. $16 on the menu. A bit pricy for ramen but I'm used to paying higher prices here. On my bill it was $18. I asked about that and was told there is a $2 container fee for takeout. Irritating and borderline unethical to tack on an undisclosed fee ($2 for a cardboard cup). But I'm here so fine. Pay my bill and still tip over 20%. Was told it wouldn't be long. 15 minutes later (not an exaggeration I checked the clock) I went to check on my order, the sushi chef went to the kitchen and they (the hostess and the cook who had been talking and laughing the whole time) startled because they had forgotten about me. 5 minutes later I got my order. I get to work and my soup was all leaked into the bag from my expensive to go container. And I was late to work. Frustrating, I won't be back. The ramen was good, I'd pay $12 for it.

Yelp
Tried K's Bistro for the first time and it was so good! Good for small groups and they might be able to accommodate a big group of maybe 10 max, but I'd call and ask. Personally I wouldn't do more than a group of 6 because it's not a big place. They have street parking and a small shared parking lot around the corner. Their menu is big but not overwhelming. There was 5 of us there and we tried so many things. The fish quality is immaculate. I'd definitely come back here again.

Yelp
One of our all time favorites. We used to live in the neighborhood and would come every week. Now we make it a tradition to come before or after traveling through LAX. The freshest food with the friendliest service. Their fish is flown in from all over the world and is second to none in LA. Make sure to stop by and the fact that it's open late is a chef's kiss!

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD AND EXPERIENCE!!!! First of all, when you come here ask to be served by Peter, he made the experience incredible! We told him we wanted a more traditional Japanese experience and he brought us food that is VERY traditional and everything tasted incredible. But not only was all the food amazing, Peter took the time to explain each dish to us and how/why the food was prepared and what they did in Japan over the century's to make these dishes. I'll for sure be back soon!!!

Yelp
Looking for a late night bite after my daughter's performance at Loyola Marymount University. K's was nearby and open late. It's a relatively small spot right outside campus. Street parking was easy just a few feet away from the door. We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering. Was fairly busy late on a Friday. Our server was prompt and appeared to be the main man in the dining room being assisted by one other. The menu mainly focuses on sushi. Moderately priced. Saw they had an Omakase offering for $120, which I was intrigued by but not late at night. We ordered the tofu salad, California roll, Crab Lover Roll, Tonkatsu Ramen and salmon teriyaki. The rolls came out quickly. Made to order by the sushi chefs behind the bar. A bit on the small side but very fresh. The tofu salad came out soon after. A hearty bowl for this salad. Could be shared as an appetizer or a small meal. After a while the salmon came out which was served with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The ramen took a while to be served. Not sure why, but was a good sized serving. Didn't try the salmon or ramen but those who ordered them said they were good. We finished off our meals with a trio of mochi and deep fried ice cream. Sadly I couldn't capture the fried ice cream prior to being devoured. Definitely would return to try the omakase menu. I noticed other tables focused on the sushi and looked amazing. Keep on Yelp'n!

Yelp
Happy they're open late night! Ordered the sashimi platter & the spicy miso ramen. The sashimi was so good, enjoyed how buttery and fresh the fish was. The oily middle sashimi was my least favorite, but it was still good. The service was good, nothing extraordinary or bad. The place is intimate and the dim lighting really sets a romantic mood

Yelp
Such delicious sushi in an easy, casual spot right by the airport. We went twice in our three-day trip from NY. Would come here all the time if I lived nearby. Their uni, toro, and chirashi bowl are wildly fresh and top-notch. Recommend these, for sure. The miso cod skewer was also a good one. 5 stars!!!

Yelp
Enjoyed fresh chu-toro and hotate sashimi from Japan. I like wide variety of menu items. I'll go back soon.

Yelp
Love this sushi place when we are in the area. Fish is always fresh. Servers are very helpful. Place is always a welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
We have been going to Kanpai for many years and that was our go to for sushi. It was very good quality, good portions and great service. We went back a week ago. The name has changed with minor updates inside. Actually we didn't even notice it until we spoke to the waiter. The menu is much smaller which is ok. But it's a lot more expensive now and the portions are smaller. I understand there is inflation and we need to support small businesses but $150 for lunch for 3 is not something we feel comfortable doing on a weekly. We will look at other options.
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Look no further for the best lunch deal in LA. Everything is fresh, the quality is fantastic, and the portions are filling. The menu is long and overwhelming, but I don't think any choice is wrong. Personal faves include the fried octopus app, 3 Hand Roll set with blue crab because it's the best, though the spicy tuna and spicy scallop and everything else are also pretty great. Other great options include Sashimi Lunch, which has 12 pieces of nice cuts and a really pretty Poke Don with a delightfully gooey special poke sauce. There are some great hot bowls too like the Katsu Don and a hearty Pork Cutlet Curry Lunch. I could go elsewhere to eat, but I never do. The deals are unbeatable, and the quality is unbelievable.
google avatar

Yelp
K's Bistro has beautiful presentation, and the dishes mostly tasted great. However, the fish quality was slightly hit and miss. The chutoro tasted frozen, and the octopus and some of the sushi was slightly fishy. I walked away happy overall, but found that I had stomach pain a little bit later. I'd recommend talking to your server or the sushi chefs on what they recommend! There's some dishes on the menu that aren't usually found in sushi joints, and they do a good job executing them.
google avatar

Esther L.

Yelp
Came here with the bf for dinner and always enjoy the sushi here. They also have an Omakase option if that's what you're feeling. It can get crowded so should be mindful about that and parking can be a bit tough. There was a 2 person party the last time we visited that just assumed that they can walk in and sit down because they see an available table. PLEASE have some some manners and check in with the host at the front so that you're not rudely cutting others that have been waiting patiently before you!
google avatar

Yelp
Was worried when they decided to rename the place and change the menu, but they're still as great as ever and now they have the kushi (skewers) which are so bomb. Of the new items we had the wagyu, duck and lamb and I'd get all three again. The lamb and the yuzu sauce/paste that came with it is insanely good. Wagyu melts. And the duck with the onion really hit. Still has the same old charm and delicious fish just with a menu that's a fraction the size and much easier to manage. Some will be bummed that ramen isn't available till 10 now but I like that it's an hour earlier than the previous late night ramen hour. Service is just as good as before, ambiance is the same as well. Always solid. Always have been a huge fan of Kanpai and I remain a huge fan of Ks bistro. Dank af.

Yelp
I have been here so many times I can't count now! If I can recommend anything that will guarantee be amazing, it's the spicy miso ramen. I was told this place would be a good date spot by a foodie coworker about a year and a half ago, and have been going on ramen dates with my boyfriend ever since! The service is also impeccable. I love the servers that work there, they will remember you and welcome you in every time. Quaint and clean spot. i get the same two things on the menu every time i go: Spicy Miso Ramen Toro taku

Yelp
I have been coming to kanpai (all locations) for over 10 years. After rebranding to K's Bistro by Kanpai. I will be coming here more often. The quality of food and intimate service here is second to none. Omakase to simple late night drinks with izakaya dishes. K's Bistro can serve it all. I love the chef and all the staff as like the family over the years. Try dining here once, you will be sure you will be back. Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
I love coming here for Ramen. The service is always pretty bad. Everyone is running around like a headless chicken! Lol they only come around to take your order and to bring your order. They don't really check in on you. You have to track them down to get your check. The prices have really gone up! Inflation I guess. The Spicy Miso Ramen is my favorite to order here.

Yelp
My husband, the sushi snob took his job of searching for a good sushi restaurant very seriously. Thank goodness he found this place cause it was 40 min drive from our house and the food was and we are taking his sister who is flying out from LAX and it was so worth the drive! The fish was fresh and sushi rice was perfect temperature and soften. It was so very good sushi, rolls and ramen, which is very rare to find a place that is good at everything. On top of that, the price was very reasonable. Give it a try if you are near by LAX area or drive for 40 min like us!

Yelp
I got door dash from Kanpai and was disappointed. The sushi was pretty good but I spent a lot of money for not much food AT all. I ordered: Phoenix moon Salmon sushi sampler Aji nigiri Kanpachi nigiri This may be the first time yelpers let me down. The phoenix moon was TINY for $29. I know they're expensive pieces of seafood but holy moly. People raves about it so I was expecting deliciousness. However, what I experienced was TINY little cups of ok taste. I would've much preferred going for some veggies that would've been more filling and satisfying. The salmon sushi sampler was good with 4 different kinds of salmon nigiri. The only sad thing was there was a fried cup with some salmon skin. Not only was it soggy by the time it got to me, it was in a bed of wasabi and I had NO idea... until I bit into it and HOLY MOLY then I knew! I know this was a door dash experience so perhaps it would've been better in person but it was a quick work trip and I was just too exhausted to go out. I wanted to love it after a friend's recommendation but sadly it came short :(

Yelp
More of a 4.5 stars. We were lucky because my brother had a restaurant.com coupon to use. The star of the show was definitely the sushi. Most of the options we tried were incredibly fresh. Make sure you ask the staff for their daily recommendations. We also ordered a bowl of udon to share, which was pretty decent for the price. The only drawback I encountered during my visit was the limited space within the restaurant. The cozy atmosphere added a certain charm, but it also meant that seating was slightly cramped. I felt like I was eavesdropping on the conversations next to us the entire meal... Though don't let that stop you from dining here, the food more than made up for it.

Yelp
All the choices are such a experience for your mouth. Chef Shan June special has no words, it's beyond amazing and delicious. Service is great and food it's heavenly amazing, ambiance is also comforting. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time we got to go for dinner! We visited the location along Lincoln Boulevard and there was parking right in front It was super busy for a Friday night and we had to wait outside until we were called upon I actually don't remember what I ordered but it was really good I'm looking at their menu right now to try and refresh my memory to see what I ordered my guess is the calamari tempura roll and the tropical roll! I didn't want wasabi or avocado Both rolls were very delicious,! I usually get regular rolls, but going to different Japanese places, you gotta try the specials! Thank God this is close to the hotel I was staying at for the weekend and will be remembered as an epic place to have dinner

Yelp
I will be sharing this on all locations yelp pages for Kanpai. WHAT A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! REALLY HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT!!!!!! I operate a nonprofit that provides showers to the homeless in Venice very Thursday. After each shower service, for the past 4 years, I have gone to Kanpai and picked up sushi, that easily costs at least $40-$80 weekly. Again, for 4 years. On a Tuesday, December 20th, I called Kanpai (on Lincoln) tried to order, but they were having bad reception or phone service. They just could not hear us on the phone. So we hung up and decided to order delivery from the one closer to my house on Sepulveda. The original order at this location was never complete. We couldn't even hear each other, but I guess someone put the order in anyway. The odd thing is, any time we are ever late picking up the sushi, they have ALWAYS called us. We usually are already on our way, but we would never stiff them, ever. Well because they entered that order, made the food and never called us, we are now banned from the location. I tried to place an order and it was canceled and when I called they told me I owe them $60+ dollars. Someone hit "enter" on that order. We had no idea, no one called us about being late or having an order at all, which is strange. Now we are banned? They won't allow us to order from there????? I operate three successful businesses in Los Angeles and run a nonprofit. I've ordered from them weekly for years, and we're banned? What a crock. Don't go here. Management wont call me back to have a discussion, but below you will see the receipt for that same day for the other Kanpai for $80.70. I would call that horrible service and even worse business practices. Thank goodness there's better sushi all over the place. This was just on the way. I have never been banned for anything. Unbelievable!!!
google avatar

Yelp
They have a nice variety of Japanese options and it's pretty fair pricing in LA. $20-$30 per entree item. We ordered some of the more expensive items like the uni sushi platter which was good but not that special for its pricing. The stone Wagyu was same story, I think it's overpriced for four pieces of Wagyu. The seared toro was great and $25 for 2 pieces is good value. Would get that again. We also got the chirashi bowl $30 which had some special sashimi compared to most chirashi. It had uni and a ton of ikura along with standard salmon, yellowtail, red tuna. The ikura was very salty though. The eel rice bowl was pretty good too and a nice portion. The service is quick and kind. The inside is kind of cramped. Parking is free to the right of the restaurant.

Yelp
This place is still the same Kanpai restaurant that we have loved for so many years. They just revamped themselves and updated the menu a bit. Still the same staff and management. We love coming here for special occasions since it's an hour drive for us. This is not your typical AYCE sushi joint. It's actually Japanese. Fresh, unique and delish! We just went again over the weekend to celebrate our 12 year wedding anniversary. We also wanted to check them out and see what has changed since they revamped the restaurant. But we were pleasantly surprised that they really didn't change that much. We decided to order the Omakase on their menu, which means chefs choice. It cost about $120 per person. Each sushi order comes out as one piece instead of the usual two. In total, we got about 15 orders that came with Omakase, which included appetizers, soups, and a dessert. We sat at the sushi bar and our sushi chef was attentive, and explained all the different dishes to us, even spelled out the different names. We had a great time enjoying all the different sushi selections, and took lots of pictures and videos. We're already planning to come back on Christmas day since this place is always open on holidays.

Yelp
Kanpai is the perfect place to go to if you want great quality fresh sushi or if you need a meal before your flight at LAX! I've been here a couple times with my family, and although it is definitely on the pricier side, we never leave feeling dissatisfied with the meal. We booked a reservation in advance, and were seated immediately. We got a few rolls, the yellowtail collarbone, seared salmon sushi, and two hand rolls. My favorite was the seared salmon sushi nigiri -- I have not had seared salmon sushi that melts in your mouth and has a butter like taste in a very long time. The yellowtail collarbone was also so amazing, the sauce that was paired with it was the perfect touch. I also loved the quantity of the salmon skin salad, and I believe that was the dish that held the most value for what you're paying for. Definitely a great Japanese sushi spot if you're in the area!

Yelp
We drove by earlier in the day and decided to check out their Yelp page and noticed they had happy hour til 6:45pm/7 days a week so decided to check it out. We stopped in for an early dinner before the movies and decided to order a bunch of items from the happy hour to try a little bit of everything. We ordered the pork skewers, pork filets, salmon croquettes, blue crab hand rolls, truffle mac and cheese and the yellowtail sampler (which was the only item not on the happy hour menu). All the food came out pretty quick and we especially loved the pork filets. The sushi tasted fresh and everything was well seasoned minus the mac and cheese which tasted bland and didn't even have a hint of truffle that we were looking forward to. Overall a nice happy hour spot but a bit on the pricier side for what you get.

Yelp
Kanpai is a cozy sushi spot located on Lincoln Boulevard. They are street parking but you have to be careful not to park during certain times. Otherwise you make it ticketed or towed and they do have a parking lot in the back that is convenient. I can't remember what I ordered but I thought the sushi was OK. The menu is extensive so be prepared to probably look at it before you go and already pick out what you want because you can spend a lot of time looking at the menu if you don't have an idea of what type of sushi you like.

Silvett G.

Yelp
Wow! The quality for the price here is unbeatable. You get what you would expect to see in the really fancy high end restaurants. Every bite is fresh and the service is efficient and unpretentious.
google avatar

Vicky G.

Yelp
Omakase UNI and more! A place where me and my husband always when we are in the area. The only downside is parking.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
The place is nice and quaint. Quality of the fish is ok, average I would say. Pieces are small, and pricy. Service is good. Chefs are mostly young and slow.
google avatar

Estele K.

Yelp
Exceptional Chirashi bowl. Wow. I think the sushi is the best quality possible, and I am truly impressed. The price is a bit on the pricier side, but I am very pleased with everything I've tasted. The service was very friendly, and the ambiance is casual but also good for dates! It's a popular work lunch spot at Torrance, and I will definitely be coming back often.
google avatar

Yelp
ALL OF THE POSITIVE REVIEWS ARE SCAMMY/FAKE. Don't fall for the trap like I did. Simply the worst sushi I have ever had. Do not eat their food.

Yelp
Atomosphere: classic Americanized Izakaya, classy dark interior with super nice staff. Always a delight eating here. I recommend going at lunch because they have good deals. THEY DONT SERVE RAMEN BETWEEN 5-10pm Food: I have ordered rolls, sushi, ramen, and bowls here all have been great. The spicy yuzu shio ramen is my personal favourite ramen. The broth is like no other with a kick of spice, the citrus melds perfectly, the bamboo shoots, green onions and bean sprouts give texture and extra morsels of flavour 9.5/10. They have some of the best unagi I've had. Salmon is always a delight with a great flavour and melt in your mouth. Their negitoro bowl is also just a great deal for that much soft silk negitoro.
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
Went here on a date. The sushi was so fresh and delicious. The service was a bit slow, but that's to be expected since it was later in the evening. Also, this place is pretty popular so you might want to check table availability ahead of time. My favorite role was the one with papaya. I think about that role all the time. Next time you're in the area and want to treat yourself, check it out!

Yelp
This place is trash. Food is basic at best. Then they rob you for half your order, deny that it's on the menu, charge you an arm and a leg for it and then take forever to give it to the delivery guy. Second time in a row. Tonight I ordered the Deluxe Sushi Combo at a cost of $80.00. On Yelp, Uber Eats, and Postmates their menu says - "10 pcs of chef's best pick of the day. It comes with miso soup, salad, rice, and edamame." I wait an hour and a half for this to get delivered. Was supposed to be here 45 minutes ago. Driver shows up with nothing that's supposed to be included in the order. Even says "yea it looked lite! I asked them and they said that's all that's in the deluxe". I call them and get some dude who sounds about as sharp as a marble on the phone. Repeating like a drone "that's not what it says on the menu sir"... yea we'll why don't you take a look at your menu on every delivery site? Pics below show what the menu says. Last order I put through to them was basically the same thing. I'd rather go hungry then put a dollar into this business ever again.

Yelp
I was overcharged by the manager. Rude and bad vibes. I'm sure the rest of the staff is ok

Yelp
This place was 5 stars! No joke! Service was awesome and guided me from start to finish! U started with a sake flight which was followed by their Japanese sushi sampler! Omg! My server went thru each piece of sushi and their value in Japan. He quickly told me not to use the soy or anything. They are designed for their flavor! It was mind blowing delicious. I finished with a pastry dessert that is made daily and limited. This experience was top knotch.

Yelp
What I love most about specific restaurants are their sets or things that stand out within a price range. I hate overpaying, but I also hate underpaying for things that deserve recognition. The chirashi bowl in this case is the perfect medium of a great price point & delicious food that fills you. For $30 you just can't beat it! I do think some of their other items can get a bit pricier, but I mean... compared to a lot of high end sushi restaurants it's pretty standard. The food is great, ambiance is fun, but area is a bit questionable. Overall, for the chirashi meal you are seriously getting a bang for your buck since it also comes with miso soup, side dishes, AND dessert. This will be all I ever order coming here because it was just worth it. Staff was also incredibly friendly!

Yelp
The food was great. The server Tyler was terrible and he knew his service to us was bad so he tried to automatically put his tip on my bill. He didn't realize I had been there before and knew it wasn't automatically put on the bill. The place is a very relaxing and comfortable restaurant to enjoy some Sushi. This was my second time there since I been in LA.

Yelp
I have been living in LA for over 45 years, been in my Sushi bars. This place is one of my top 5 places to go now I days. The last time was leaving on my flight through LAX; I met with some local friends. This will be a new routine when flying out. Great food, cold beer, great staff, and almost forgot to say great selection of sake!

Yelp
Delicious authentic Japanese food. Everything was so good. We ordered so many items but can't remember any of the names. Sorry. Everyone that works here is so friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Kanpai is a decent sushi spot in West LA without breaking the bank. A big group of us easily called and made a reservation for the day of for dinner. Even though we visited during a Saturday evening, it wasn't too busy. The restaurant has seating both indoors and out in the back. My friend and I shared the crispy tuna bite (4/5), K-2 roll (3.5/5) and chirashi dinner (4/5). The chirashi dinner came with many sides including miso soup, ikura over rice, unagi over rice, and ice cream for dessert! We initially thought we under ordered, but we were definitely full at the end of the meal. Parking was easy since there is a small lot at the end of the strip of shops.

Yelp
As an Asian, I've been to hundreds of Japanese restaurants, and this was the first-ever one that didn't give rice or miso with teriyaki, then charged $3.5 for a bowl of steamed regular rice! Also, be aware, their draft beers have extremely different prices - Sapporo is $6.5, while Asahi is $11, with no size difference! We only realized this when we got our bill. Crazy.

Yelp
My heat broke as they changed everything that was great about this restaurant. I have been coming to Kanpai for well over 10 years. They used to have the best tempura ice cream and one of the best dessert menus in town. Over the years.the quality started to fade. But, as a staple restaurant, I would still come. When I came in this evening, I was devastated to see the changes that this restaurant has made. The sushi is now sold by the piece and the pieces are smaller. My dessert was one of the worst desserts I've ever had. We tried to order the mochi, and we were not allowed to choose which mochi we wanted. The whole concept is to make this more of a high end experience. However, nothing about the menu makes me want to try more food. I thought it was ironic that the changes to the menu, are supposed to encourage customers to try more food. However, when we tried to choose the mochi we wanted we were told it was chefs choice and could not choose our flavors. I'm completely underwhelmed with the changes and I couldn't believe you can't order any sake by the glass you can only buy the bottle. Overall, the changes are completely for the chefs and the owner. It's not for the customer. I'm sad to say I will never return to what used to be one of my favorite restaurants in town. They seem to be driving away their base in hopes of an elevated consumer, not realizing their consumers are actually elevated, have great pallets, and came to Kanpai for a reason. This restaurant completely stripped that reason away.
