So, this is what a real airport is like.
I can get used to it.
I love the natural light. Yes, you're mostly looking at airplanes, but it's a major upgrade from the LED-based cave-like atmosphere of the previous terminal.
I also love the commons areas. You can grab a seat and relax between connections. You can also visit a nice selection of stores that offer everything between grab n' go food and toiletry options to the finest of local Kansas City merchandise. (I recommend a Charlie Hustle heart tshirt and a bottle of Classic Gates BBQ sauce from Made in KC.)
THERE ARE REAL RESTAURANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I'm shouting.
If you visited the old terminal, you know that most of the food options, many of which were below average, were beyond Security, so if you wanted to eat something semi decent you had to leave and reenter.
Not any more.
The new terminal offers a great variety of local and chain options to satisfy your hunger. Yes, there's BBQ.
I saw a child's play area, which is a nice options when you're littles need to burn off some energy.
I've heard there is a small doggy / pet area for you non-human friend(s.) I haven't seen it and I haven't looked for it because I don't have pets, however a few of my pet-owner friends say they like it. They say it's a nice place to get their four-legged friend out of the main terminal chaos so they can relax. They also like their pet having the option to use the restroom.
A couple of notes:
One of the terminal's claims to fame is providing a large number of restrooms. This is technically true. Most of those restrooms are in the midpoint areas in Terminal A and B. They're easy to access and a great space to do what you need to do.
The bathroom options begin to dwindle the farther you get to the end of the terminals. They're still there, but there aren't as many of them. Be prepared to walk a little and give yourself a little time if you need to.
If you're visiting and somebody is picking you up, please let them know about the cell phone lot. It's a short three to five minute drive from the terminal and helps keep traffic flowing.
