Kansas City Power & Light District

Kansas City power and light District it didn’t disappoint. I enjoy my experience while I was at the NFL Fox Sunday show live.

If you’re looking for the 12th Street Rag mural like we were - it’s still visible despite being covered up some by buildings that went in after it was painted! Live music was free on a Friday night, neon signs made it look great along with string lights on trees, and despite the rain it was a good time (music is under a large cover).

It was later in the evening on a Sunday night and it had recently snowed. There wasn't much going on and only a handful of places were open. Every place we went in was lively and fun. Had good food and they have an insomniac cookies for dessert.

Fun area to walk around. Good location across from the event center. Big screen, bars, restaurants, all around. Ate at Emirils tacos. Really good with a full bar!

The place in itself was amazing. Like, we had a little trouble understanding the location of the pub that we wanted to go... that's because every place had its very own fun going on. The security team people were super friendly and very understanding. And the Mosiac Ultra Lounge that we went to... was super fun. Loads of people, good drinks and exciting environment. I'd say it's in the top 3 of all other places there.

Kansas City Power and Light Distract was awesome. I went there on a weekday evening with friends, and it was fun and semi busy the crowd. No wait time to get into the bar, and still there was a good size of people inside the bar. Music was good, not to loud. Lots of televisions to watch multiple sports games. Very staff and prices were reasonable. This district is a great place to hang out, enjoy food and a drink or two, and destress.

This was a fun stop for our Harley group. We did not go through the museum but enjoyed the gift shop, the wildflowers, and of course taking pictures.

We're were in the area for a concert. It was very well maintained and clean. Everything we needed was in the immediate vicinity and accessible by the trolly. The art was graffiti free and was nice to look at. Will definitely visit again.

Came here for kc live New Year's Eve party it was a blast. All 12 bars n restaurants open for the event once u paid to get in. Seating or standing. Big screen had music videos going n dancers before ball dropped with all the works. Fun to do from coming out of town. It was walking distance from Loews hotel and located downtown kc.

Sure, it's an entertainment district. There are bars & dining establishments galore, plenty of indoor & outdoor spots to enjoy, and it's built to host events. It's also generally jam-packed at events, parking is silly, and security seems like an afterthought. Maybe I'm out of the demo, and that's fine. But P&L is a blast to be at for an event like watching a World Cup match or some Big 12 tourney basketball, but aside from that, it's shaky. After hours is wholly different story, and that's not so much an issue of P&L but more of a city thing. The bars & restaurants are a mix of local & national, and for my money, give me local every time. Like-sized cities (think Broadway in Nashville or downtown Indy) seem to have a better hold on people flow and entertainment ideas. It's not really family-oriented and maybe that's the old man in me, but I don't think I'm alone. Parking stinks, but if you're Uber-ing, then great. Other than that, you're walking. Pricing is fine and most of the restaurants and bars' service is what it is: spotty. That's more of a restaurant to restaurant thing than it is P&L, but just know that your choices are wild cards. To recap: It's fun. It gets packed. It can be a security disaster. It's here to stay.

I was staying in a hotel here in this area this weekend. It seems like a pleasant, safe neighborhood. There are lots of quality restaurants, hotels, and appear to have a significant number of theatrical venues and performance arts options.

This is the typical touristy type of area most cities seem to have... it has the normal stuff, like The Yard (a Darden chain), as well as several local joints to dine and drink. Only issue I have is all the homeless, druggies hanging out earlier in the day/morning, which don't make me feel comfy. I also saw two different piles or human feces, which is GROSS and something I might expect from that horribly managed San Franisco, but not from a place that might be a little more on the conservative side. Bottom line - I wasn't impressed... But, to each their own.

Street was pretty quiet when i was here but seemed like there was lots of restaurants and places to grab drinks. It was clean and the Street car was easily accessible if you didn't wanna walk. **Side note: I did see a fair number of 'homeless' in this area who were quite loud and yelling aggressively, also saw the police needing to get involved 2 times in the 2 days i was there because of the level of aggression towards people on the street. I live in a big city so my tolerance is quite high but some people are more timid around this behavior so it's only a heads up for those people.

I've been here once! It was a neat feeling because you're in the middle and there are surrounding you with bars and restaurants. You can pretty much go to eat pizza and listen to the concert or watch it. You could also eat Mexican and watch the concert there's a ton of different options. I will say as you get closer to the stage there is a set of stairs and I was really nervous about someone falling down at the entire time especially the really intoxicated people. I don't know why they don't have it roped off during concerts because they were a couple people that missed a step while trying to get closer to the stage. It was a very large venue from the outside but once you got in much smaller. The ambience was more intimate as it was a smaller venue. It was a really great time and I liked the atmosphere and ambience of how they have it set up with you in the middle and all the different areas, restaurants, bars to check out!

I loved the power and light district! It was super cool and nice that it's covered because it started to sprinkle. Tons of options for drinks and food and such a unique and fun vibe with live music. Would definitely come back!

The Power and Light District is a fun place to grab a drink! I went with a group of girlfriends. We partook in the $50 all you can drink deal and definitely got our moneys worth. The drinks were good and didn't taste too watered down. One thing I loved about the Power and Lights District is that it's covered. It started raining but we didn't mind thanks to the cover. Excited to come back here next time I visit KC.

Not to be confused with the Power And Light Dickstrict, which is where every penis must be both tremendously powerful, but also streamlined, sleek, and "light" weight. And they are very strict about this. Dick-strict, no less. This is one of the most important areas in Kansas City, part of the downtown, but a little away from it, serving as the main downtown party neighbourhood, as it is the home of a lot of great tourist destinations and nightlife spots, and it definitely is the heartbeat of the nightlife for the entire Kansas City region (as well as the Westside), and to some degree the whole of Missouri and Kansas for that matter. This might be why it attracts quite a lot of people. Unlike European muggers, who attack quite a lot of people. I like it around here and there's plenty to do - and there's even a couple of yummy diners around here (Town Topic is that you), and I'll continue coming here, especially because the Liverpool Pub is located here, so all in all it's just a great place to come and visit, and very visually stunning as well.

What a cool spot to spend an evening. I went as part of a conference evening mixer. Amazing food and lots of different drinks plus a live stage. Definitely recommended when you visit KC

What a joke, some stupid "private" event eliminates the ability to get into into Guy Fieri's Dive Taco Joint if you didn't know they have the whole area blocked off for the exclusive private event. Then the "security" can't give any directions to how to navigate around, so now it's walk around the entire block to get into the restaurant. Smooth planning Kansas City. I'm glad I know downtown and not from out of town. Maybe think about how your "private" event impacts the other businesses in the area.

Great atmosphere. Lots of good food selections, as well as drink, selections, party atmosphere everybody friendly. Went to McFadden's. Bartender Danny very friendly. Overall I would say you won't be disappointed if you come to KC and go here.

Absolutely loved NYE at Power and Light. We the gold package so we could go upstairs and it was totally worth it. Spent the first half of the night at the Sporting KC bar and then headed to the way way less crowded karaoke bar which had no lines for the bathroom or the bar. We had never been to a karaoke bar but it took about 20 minutes before we were belting out Backstreet Boys.

Power & Light is a great destination spot for those who either want to drink and dance at night or watch a Chiefs game on Sunday afternoon. It is much pricier than your average bar in KC, but you are also paying for the atmosphere. I enjoy the variety of bars/clubs in the area (karaoke, piano, dance, etc).

Crowded. Expensive to enter establishments. Expensive to park. Inconvenient. Nowhere close to park. I only go here if I have no other choice. Hate it here.

The amount of times you'll see me at P&L on a weekend night with a drink in each hand? Zero point zero. It's just not my thing, and never really has been. Now that being said, this district represents a central gathering place for people downtown, and to me, that's a huge plus. If you back up and look at the recent history of downtown KC, I think it's tough to argue that this development, packaged with the Sprint Center, have been paramount in the downtown redevelopment. It's a great place to watch a soccer game, and I still remember hugging strangers during the USA World Cup game back in 2010 and having a blast there. It was perfect to watch on the big screen and then you could duck into the bars and cool down with a drink, or just watch in there. During the wild World Series runs, this was a place for pep rallies and after parties. Eric Hosmer bought everyone drinks at McFaddens one night... I mean how cool is that? The idea of the place is great, it's just that for so long it seems that they've ignored local businesses and had chains taking over. That seems to be shifting with No Other Pub and Cleaver & Cork opening recently, but that should've been the way they started out in my opinion. So my three stars for this district is more abstract than just going here versus not going here, but I stand by it. I like the change it's brought downtown, but I don't find myself here a ton.

Lots of lights and great music. Only a few food places open. Very very small crowd and masks on everyone. Dueling pianos tonight (Wednesday) from 8-11. Noticed there $2 taco night on Tuesdays.

Flashy! Kansas City's answer to Times Square...? This may be an overstatement but it's the comparison that most readily comes to mind. I do think when people come to visit a city they look for an area like this for a night crawl. The good thing about it is that it's contained and walkable, whereas more hip areas with a better nightlife scene require a drive from downtown hotels. While I get the concept and do appreciate that many US cities have prefab entertainment districts like this one, the Power & Light District is not an area that I would frequent. It's rather generic... Maybe it would be cooler if there were less national chains? Do you really need to come to Kansas City to go to a place like the Maker's Mark Lounge? So, it's "local flavor" but yet not at all local flavor. I think that's the issue here. Kansas City definitely has more interesting nightlife to offer.

First time taking in an outdoor activity at Kc p &, this has been fantastic. This outside venue does four Urbana tours a year June-August. Unfortunately I missed the first two which were Rose tours but thankfully I was able to attend tequila and tacos tour! You get to sample 5 different restaurants in Kansas cities were depending on the event they provide alcohol and small bites. This round: margaritas and tacos!!! Each venue was able to personalize their offerings my favorite was teocali agave margarita and al pastor tacos: they proved mild and spicy salsa... tasted very homemade and authentic. This venues offerings resonated with me the most, the margarita was spicy and flavorful... I wish they were selling them. The event also had live music, who played the iconic Hispanic songs. There was artists drawing/painting live, vendors selling clothes, plants, and some alcoholic beverages.

Good ol P&L. If you want to go to club and dance...we'll KC does not have much to offer. To to Power & Light you have to go!

I loved the whole district. I'd suggest taking a shuttle here and walking around plenty to do. I did find the area to be overpriced for drinks.

I'm conflicted about Power & Light. I've been to the two other monstrosities created by Cordish: The Inner Harbor in Baltimore and 4th Street Live in Louisville. It's clear that both of these developments have had a positive financial impact on the city. HOWEVER, we did a horrible deal with Cordish. The District's tax abatements have KCMO picking up the tab on a shortfall on revenue generation (not great in a recession, on top of an ailing water system and failing school district) and worse, the racist policies of "Power and White" had to be battled and fought to be changed to allow people of all colors to come into this corporate conglomerate. Oof. So, I come to the District with a bunch of personal and ideological baggage - it has hurt our city financially as much as it has appeared to "help" business. I also don't like the fact that the rents are so high-priced that only the deep national corporate pockets can play there (do you hear me, Highwoods @ the Plaza?), and we don't get a taste of "Kansas City" at all. All that being said, the visitors I've brought here *do* like it in some ways, and sometimes it's an easy place to get a quiet drink (Flying Saucer) or cheap, decent sushi (Drunken Fish), or to visit the College Basketball Experience (across the street). It's also been great for outdoor DJ events or even to watch sports: Maker's Mark sponsored a GREAT Derby Day there a couple years back. So, caveat emptor. /rant

Looks like there's a lot of Power & Light haters on Yelp, but it's still a great place to party and impress your out-of-town guests if they're into this kind of scene. This place gets especially crazy on holidays such as St. Patrick's Day and Halloween. Personally I wish the P&L district had existed when I first moved to KC 7 years ago fresh out of college. I probably would have been down there every weekend bar hopping at the many places. The best part is that you can take alcohol outside of the establishments here as long as it's in a plastic cup. The warmer months are awesome here as there are free concerts every Friday and other events such as fashion shows and festivals. My favorite places in the area are Flying Saucer and Howl at the Moon. Now it's no longer my scene but I still like hanging out in the courtyard and people watching. During winter, the courtyard is heated and the fire pits are lit so you won't feel cold even though you're outside. In addition to bars and clubs, there's a good number of restaurants, boutique stores, salons, AMC Mainstreet Theater, and hotels in the area. Prior to moving back to Kansas City, I stayed at the Hilton President for a convention and partied in the P&L with my co-workers every night. It's the perfect place for convention goers and people who come in for events at the Sprint Center. Not everyone may agree, but the Power & Light District is exactly what Kansas City needs to help revitalize downtown, bring in tourism, and attract the convention crowd.

I'm mostly reviewing the little square block area. Cause I'll never be back to any of it, unless it's a Yelp event. As an adult, over 21, able to drink alcohol, I am able to visit the Power and Light District with my adult, over 21 friends, and have a kind of good time, if we decide to drink alcohol, and are dressed appropriately, especially if it's after 9 pm. when only adults are allowed to enter the restaurants in P & L District. Turn that story around. I am not always with adult people, and it's not always before 9 p.m. Trust me, if you don't want to drink alcohol, and only want to eat something, don't even bother with this area. A couple of weeks ago, I was in the P & L district with my son and his friend, who dress appropriately, and act appropriately, and are both under the age of 21. With 50 bars and shops, like the brochure says, I decided I'd take them to a certain restaurant in P & L District, we were hungry. The boys don't drink alcohol, atleast around me, and I don't drink when I'm around them or when I take out my son's friends to eat. It was at 8:55 to be exact, and the restaurant is one of many, cause I tried three of them, after being turned away at one, cause there's liquor served at night. Well, I'm here to tell you, I've been to all three restaurants way before 9 pm., and they also serve liquor during the day. I tried the 2nd, and they also turned me away. Rather than going postal, I tried a third (after paying to park, in their covered parking lot, and hyping up a couple of hungry boys), and we were also turned away, saying "We serve alcohol at night." bullshit. Cause I know, they serve alcohol during the day,( shhh it's a secret.) All of us were dressed in our Kansas City finery. My son and I have eaten there before 9, and I had beer...but please don't tell the guy at the door of the restaurant.. And most of the restaurants are over priced, and not that great! I drove over to wonderful Crossroads area, to Grinders, and had the greatest pizza in the world, and the boys were fed, and the parking was free. If I could do a review with 0 stars, I'd do it. . Also, their stupid rules, how the hell do you choose what to wear? I had to make sure the boys were dressed well enough to go there, making it seem like an important place. I hate Power and light District, and hate is a strong, vile word. I hate it so much I will never be back, except to go to the Sprint Center. Even the Sprint Center is pretentious. Kansas City isn't that good to be that pretentious. If the Power and lIght District is one of Kansas City's greatest asset, then it really needs to be deflated. The places to eat in the Power and Light District are common places, over priced, found elsewhere. How fake can you get? It makes me hate, or rather, dislike downtown Kansas City even more.

Did you know that the nation's largest World Cup of 2014 watch party was hosted at KCPL District? It was Epic, you could not hear yourself think, standing shoulder to shoulder in the humid heat, cheering, hoping, feeling crushed and doing it with 1000's was an emotional roller coaster. Kansas City loved it. We weren't individuals we were Kansas City staking our claim on the world stage of sports and we put a pretty good dent in that day USA vs Ghana. After that nothing ever really came close for me at KCPL but thats ok at least I had my day. I've been to their free summer concert series and it was fun. Weekend of Fourth of July, some good memories their, but I do not go just for the hell of it on a Friday or Saturday night. I've heard the term "meat market', 'RoofieVille' thrown around and not fondly. Bachelorette parties seem to be popular here, and if you do go on Fri/Sat. evening you will witness a sea of newly minted drinkers, a bunch of early 20 somethings. If you are a young 20 something lady, lie to me, do not tell me you are going here on such a night. When you first walk in it's a huge two story rectangle space with a big open court yard, a "beer garden', bar, small fountain surrounded by some seating. If stand in the middle and do a 360 you see all bars and some restaurants. A lot of the food offerings are really good and some not. Drinking establishments like Shark Bar beach party with 90s music, Howl at the Moon dueling pianos crowd involvement, Mosaic Johnson County yuppies vibe, Tengo Sed Cantina tequila shots and stripper poles, PBR Big Sky line dancing mechanical bull, Irish pub and you can visit all plus more in a night. They have a dress code that mainly pertains to the fellas like no baggy pants. Forget trying to find easy access parking, they have parking garages but fill up quick, and driving through here is bumper to bumper at a mile an hour. If going for a night event go early to find a spot both in parking and to take in say concert. This is the weekend/event night life, day is a 180. Day gives offerings like sushi, steak, seafood, ribs, burgers, burritos, you name it I'm pretty sure you could find it. Through out the year their are family oriented events as long as they are not carding the whole family can come. New Years eve they throw a ticketed bash, I think $80 a pop and drop $1000 cash at midnight. You can rent out the space, been to one of those, company rented it for a little office summer party. KCPL district offers a lot and it's evolved for the better since opening. Personal favorite Alamo Draft House and dine in theater.

Nice spot to hang out. Even just sitting off to the side somewhere and listening to some of the never ending live music is a pleasant way to spend an evening.

A generic, tired, corporate attempt at creating a neighborhood. Restaurants range from average to terrible. Bars are full of 25 year olds or 45 year olds acting like they're 25. The only possibly redeeming time here is when there is a sports event on the giant tv. Otherwise save your money and go to the Crossroads area down the street for a real neighborhood.

I had made it my my mission in life to avoid the Power and Light District at all costs. Being sardined with a bunch of drunken strangers with crazy loud music just isn't my thing. But last night when some co-workers invited me out on the town, I broke down and agreed. I can't call myself a Kansas City native wihtout visiting all the hot spots in the city, now can I? I'm proud to say that Power and Light wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I enjoyed the open-air, wide-spead lay out of the area. I could walk around freely, the bathrooms were easy to find, and the dance floor wasn't jammed packed: all pros for me! ....Oh, and I never had to pay a cover charge no matter what bar I walked into and I rode on my friends' tabs all night. I went to Power and Light and didn't spend a penny! Woo hoo!

We came down here for the NYE party and it's definitely a neat area of KC. There is a main outdoor area where the band was playing and then there are bars both on the first and second floors in a U form that all face the main area where the bands set up. It's really nice to be able to move from bar to bar and not have to toss your drink since they check your ID before entering the area you're able to walk around outside with your drink and get a little fresh air. I imagine this air is significantly more pleasant in the summer than it was on NYE. It was a pretty cold choice for a venue and the negative is that you don't only wait in line to get into the main area but then you also have to wait in line out in the cold outside every bar. Outside of this little area is a collection of really nice restaurants, bars, and lounges. There's definitely something for everyone down here.

It's pretty cool how they can have all the bar scene in a few block radius downtown. I would have never thought Kansas City party life would have been like this.

The bars and expensive was lackluster, but overall the bats can be fun under the right circumstance. The bars are extremely packed. Don't expect to wait for an Uber on the sidewalk though. The security and police officers will run you away. You are not allowed to wait for a ride at the sidewalk nearest P&L. It can be a great place to go if you want to spend over $30 to get into a bar and then feel like a criminal for getting an Uber. I would only recommend if you have no other place to go.

so much fun bands, bars, food, people watch, you got it all. I highly recommend anyone of any age to go you will have fun.

Pregnant and love to party? Hate when people at "classy" bars give you dirty looks while you're drinking and smoking with that baby bump? Well then the Power and Light area is for you! If you're impregnated and feel the need to do shots with your friends and have a smoke while doing it, you will be in good company with your fellow knocked up women. On any given weekend night, there will be half a dozen of your compatriots so rejoice! You'll get to enjoy a one block area filled with chain bars that offer you overpriced drinks (Buds = $5), but what the hell... you're drinking for two! So go ahead and ride the mechanical bull and kick back with those needle shots. You need it. You're about to give birth!

I wish every city had a cluster of fun like this! Something for everyone!! So much that it's hard to decide!! Come wander around and enjoy the uniqueness of so many restaurants and some shopping in a downtown area. Not for kids at night!!

I have been to Power and Light way, way too many times, and I have always, always hated this place. However, if you like it or hate it depends completely on who you are and what you are looking for. Are you young and looking to party it up, possibly hook up and make questionable decisions while spending too much money that you can because you don't pay rent in mom's basement? You'll love it here! Are you a responsible adult who likes to have a few drinks, talk with people (friends or the people sitting next to you), and not blow the bank because you actually have adult purchases in your life to budget for? You'll hate it here. You make the choice. Me? I'd rather pay my bills on time, save for some vacation and keep my ear drums in tact down the road. I love my wallet and my sanity, so I hate P&L. If you want to go out in Kansas City, I would recommend the Plaza, Crossroads...hell, even Westport over this place. Oh and seriously, this is Kansas City...having to pay for parking is asinine. Paying $2 is worse - it's proof they don't need it, they just want to stick it to you.

Given that I had low expectations since it was a Wednesday night, I was still crushingly disappointed. We wandered through two or three bars and none had more than one or two people. The music is poppy obnoxiousness, the neon lights everywhere are tacky, and the set up does nothing to reflect the rest of the city. FAIL!

P&L District would get only 1 star if it didn't remind me of City Walk in LA. During the day, some of the restaurants are tolerable, and the Flying Saucer is basically amazing all the time, but it's on the outside of P&L so... I don't really consider it a part of the district. I just consider it a precious little gem on the outskirts of Hep C Town. I have only been into a few bars at P&L and they all left me wanting to take a bath IMMEDIATELY. I definitely suggest bringing a can of Lysol and some GermX :) Every once in a while, the P&L Living Room will have some cool free shows. This past Wednesday we went to see War just for the hell of it. The only bad part is that there was this asshole security guard, that instead of politely asking us not to take pictures, was a total dick and pissed me off bad enough to make me just leave. I also think it's bullshit that there is a dress code. I understand the concept behind it, but it's bullshit. (UPDATE: I have been notified that the dress code has changed and it much more lenient now and makes more sense.) good to know! If you want to get shitfaced, be surrounded by other shitfaced people, and be overcharged by cover charges and drinks, then P&L is for you!

There is great pros and cons. Most of the things that I like are in the perimeter part of Power and Light. I love Bristol, Zafar, the Garment District, my favorite Grocery store. On the weekends, there are always food trucks around on Walnut, so late night eating is available. In the district, there is one thing that makes me happy .If you every want to laugh uncontrollably, go to Tango de Cantina. Drunk people on a stripper pole ALWAYS provides entertainment. Now, the cons. IT WILL WORK YOUR LAST NERVES! People overdo it. They get out of control. Someone is always going to jail. throwing up on you, or you are getting pushed because someone else not even with you decides to get in a bar brawl. Go at your own risk.

Hanging out in the Power and Light District is like hanging out in a mall. It might have been cool when you were 16, but it's definitely not cool now. Supercorporate generic bars and restaurants here have nothing distinctive about them -- I came here on a cross-country road trip and was struck on how completely generic and placeless they were. Like a mall, it could be anywhere in the country and you wouldn't know. The only thing that stood out as having any character were the thuggish security guards carding at the entrance. Seriously, guys? If you're thinking of traveling to KC to visit the P&L district, save yourself a trip and get housed at your local Applebee's.

I feel that only good thing about P&L is the KC Live area and that is if you can even get in for a free show in the summer. Nights when they have name brand music it is a mad house. The drinks that I have had on numerous accounts haven't been mixed well and you pay out of the A$$ for them. Some bars are better than others but all are national chain establishments and don't have the fun people watching that other local bars offer...that is unless you are into watching Douchbags hit on Douchette's. Everyone is dressed in Ed Hardy or Affliction, T&A hanging out everywhere. The really unfortunate thing is I have had a few girlfriends who have been drugged at P&L and it wasn't limited to just one bar and the girls were buying their own drinks. The dress code is obnoxious and discriminating.

I understand there are people who avoid Power & Light like the plague. I date one of them. I also know there are huge groups of people who make it their one-stop destination for weekends. I get both approaches. I really do. Power & Light is a collection of chain restaurants, bars and night clubs. The whole concept is chain, as there are other districts like this this in other cities, e.g., Louisville. Many people hate chains. Many chains are overrated. The caveat is that here, some of the chains are quite good. I have not had a bad experience at Gordon Biersch. I generally have enjoyed Bar Louie. Z-Strike is a nice alternative to sitting on a bar stool all night. I really quite like Kill Devil Club. Rum! Yum! Alamo Draft House is one of my favorite places in town. I've also had fun a few times at Howl at the Moon. There are still venues I need to try here as well, like Bristol Seafood Grill and BRGR. I've found myself unimpressed by several places here, like Tengo Sed, the Whopper Bar and the Drunken Fish one evening. Then there's a category of, well, meh, like McFadden's, the Dubliner and Maker's Mark - not bad, not amazing. The thing is, this area draws lots of people into downtown KC to spend money. The people are wide-ranging in age and interests and income. P&L has brought downtown alive, with a little something for everyone. They hold fun events and free concerts. If you can get over the chain hatred, you can have fun in this corporate entertainment mall. That's what is. That's not always bad.

I was exploring and visiting KC for a few weeks while my husband was working. I went online to find events happening in the city. Granger Smith was playing one weekend night and so we decided it would be fun. This place is so cool. It's like a square filled with people, bars and restaurants. You can buy a drink and walk around with it. The stage and music speakers are top notch. I had never heard of Granger Smith before and the concert was amazing. People are super friendly in KC. It made me want to buy a loft downtown. This is a cool place. We dined at Bristol and I had the best fish ever. KC is an awesome city. We had a blast at the Power and Light District!!!!

DO NOT buy the Power and Light District gift card. You assume you'll be able to use it at every place that is listed on their website, but no no no... A lot of restaurants in the middle of the P+L district don't accept this card - including Drunken Fish, The Mixx, Chipotle, Howl and the Moon, The Bristol, etc... I learned that today when I tired to use it at Chipotle. I called the number on the card to confirm, the representative told me that I should have asked about it before purchasing the card. What a scam!

Came into town form business and stayed within walking distance of P&L District. What a godsend, because the rest of downtown was fairly bleak. It reminds me of the Gaslamp in San Diego, only much smaller. Managed to hit town in time to catch one of their free concerts. Saw Saliva! The concert pretty much rocked. Ate at a few of the restaurants and actually had a good experience. I would be happy to go back again in March when I hit town again.

I wish we had something like this in St. Louis! The power and lights district was an awesome way for me and the boyfriend to end our weekend in KC. I love the way everything was set up. There is definitely something for everyone here. I can't really describe it except to say that it was like one huge party! I love it.

I am not a fan of the Power and Light District. Actually, I like a lot of things about it, but the negatives outweigh the positives and this is an area of town that I stay away from! First the pros... A lot of great options in a small area. How it has revitalized downtown and is probably responsible for more growth outside of it's location. Sprint Center. Some of the events that it has given a home to over the years. Cons... Parking. Parking can be a nightmare and depending on what you are doing, cost more than what you are doing. Clientele. If you go down there this doesn't mean everyone, but a large portion of the people are not ones I want to spend time with. Many things are closed on Sundays. I realize their business is primarily through the week, but if I am going to go I would prefer a quiet downtown Sunday. Jaywalkers. Although this is a problem across the city, it is horrible here and I wait for the day I accidentally hit someone. It is bound to happen they way people dart out between cars. If I am coming into the city, there are many areas to enjoy, hopefully someday the P&L will be added to my list.

This entertainment area has bars and restaurants to suite a wide range of tastes, from sports (Johnny's and McFadden's) to dancing (Shark Bar), bowling (Lucky Strike) and highly-entertaining piano sing-a-longs (Howl at the Moon), or something in-between. Not only are there bars, but some decent restaurants as well (Makers Mark steak-house) to more casual pizza and pubs foods as well. The central fountain/fire pit, services by its own bar and beer kiosks is a great place to watch the live entertainment which is usually free. As any place with a lot of drinking, it can get a little dicey later in the night,but remember the buddy system, and you will have a fine time. Also, there is a cover on the weekends after 9-10 (check on line for details) and you will always need your ID to get in (no matter how old you look).

It's funny to read reviews about how awful Power and Light is. Certainly the bars and restaurants aren't all that unique and are often a chain. The weekends aren't for everyone either. I myself wouldn't want to hangout there much. I am giving it 5 stars because of what it has helped do for our downtown. If you go back 10 years, you would hear crickets in the same area during the day and night. People from all over the Midwest are coming to our city to experience what we have. The Power and Light District played a large part in that. I should point out the free concerts in the summer, the 1000"s of people who flocked there to watch the World Cup, Sporting KC, Chiefs and how can you forget seeing the celebration of our Royals that occurred there. So what if it's not for everyone. If it keeps brining people to our city along with Sprint Center that is great. Without either of those, one could argue nearly all of the other parts of downtown would still be waiting for people to come in an develop. The Cross Roads, River Market and the West Side all have seen faster success as a result. In short, it's a great place to meet up before a concert, a great place to grab a beer every now and then and a great place to gather to watch our local sports teams.

I wasn't really impressed with the P&L district! Over priced drinks, beers, & bad djs. Me and my boy flew in from Cali on Saturday to attend the Chiefs game. We went out Saturday night thinking oh yeah turn up, more like turn down!
