KANTIN at The Granary

Our guide - Ric recommended this place. We first came in the night for dinner menu but realised that dry laksa is served for lunch. Came back the next day for lunch:) all the dishes for lunch and dinner were really good and tasty, staff were really friendly. We enjoyed the rice wine too - especially the pandan and lemongrass. Highly recommend this place.

We were 3 pax. Each had a different meal - MarineNara Pasta, Hawaiian Dayak Pizza & Roasted Chicken & Fungi Salad Bowl. All tasted lovely and scrumptious. Firstly, the service was great. We didn't wait long for our meals. The young team in the kitchen seemed well trained and handled our orders like-a-bawse!! Kudos to Chef and team. Well done! The service team at the front was great too. They were very attentive and pleasant. Always smiling, which i appreciate. All in all, two thumbs up!! Will definitely come back again.

First meal we had when we arrived at Kuching and we had high expectations after seeing the banner touting "Malaysia's best restaurant". The atmosphere was good, comfortable and clean environment with friendly staffs. Ordered the Headhunter Pansuh Set, Nanas Chicken Burger, Kacangma Pasta and Chicken Chop. The Pansuh Set and Burger was OK, Chicken Chop was above average but the Pasta was too thick to our taste. I would say the foods are passable but do not worth the price and definitely NOT "Best in Malaysia"! Would I return? Nope.

Tried out this restaurant because of the hype and ordered quite a spread, Jungle Pasta (RM32), Kambing Asap / Smoked Lamb (RM28), Headhunter Pansuh Set (RM42), Kacangma Alfredo Pasta (RM28), Chargrilled Pineapple Burger (RM35), Hawaiian Dayak Pizza (RM36), Cream of Mushroom (RM15), plus assorted drinks. The food is very much Western-fusion with local touches. Everything was decent, but honestly nothing really stood out flavour-wise. The Jungle Pasta and Kacangma Alfredo Pasta were unique in concept but tasted fairly ordinary. The smoked lamb had good aroma, though a bit on the small side. The pansuh set was interesting but didn’t quite deliver the depth I expected. The burger and pizza leaned more on the Western side, enjoyable but nothing particularly memorable. The cream of mushroom was smooth and comforting but again, standard. That said, the ambience is lovely, cosy, modern, and a nice place to chill with friends or family. The catch? The bill came up close to RM350 for the lot, which felt rather overpriced for what you get. Overall, it’s not spectacular for me personally, but still a place I’d say is worth trying at least once, you might appreciate the flavours more than I did. I did ask about their popular Sponge Cake Prank dessert, but the staff mentioned it’s seasonal and not available at the moment, so maybe that’s something worth coming back for another time.

The food offers very authentic Sarawak flavours, with dishes prepared using locally sourced ingredients that truly reflect the local culinary style. The overall taste was rich and satisfying. However, I noticed that I felt unusually thirsty the following day. As I am sensitive to MSG, I suspect that some of the dishes may have contained added MSG to enhance the flavour. It might be helpful for the restaurant to indicate this clearly for customers who are sensitive to such ingredients.

Highly recommended by our tour guide -Ric. He goes so often that the Kantin Manager came by to say hello and we received complimentary dishes😆. Thank you much. I dare say everything we ordered was divine. Semua sedap! We ordered the cuttlefish, salted egg chicken pop, nasi kerabu, chicken wings, etc. Seven of us total bill came up to RM150. Not bad🎶 They have an outlet in KL too somewhere-somewhere near The Rex. Go google location and cari. I plan to do the same.

I am not sure if this is sarawak traditional food. But the food was amazing. The flavour felt more local though. Tried their Asap Kambing, keow tiaw chicken soup pansuh, sototng bakar and side dishes aee amazing too.

We had our team lunch at Kantin today. The tastes are unique and delicious. Just that the environment is a bit hot during noon even fans and coolers are running. Luckily the roof is extremely high that makes air ventilation much better, but still a bit warm. Personally, the price is considered slightly higher for similar type of food outside, but they are delicious to my taste. I will visit to try other dishes on the menu.
