We were shown to a table set for two, and after letting the staff know we had booked for four, they simply added two extra chairs to the same small table — leaving us all feeling extremely squished, especially once drinks and meals arrived.
After we sat down, the waiter came over almost immediately and asked if we were ready to order. When we politely said we’d just sat down and needed a little more time, he didn’t return for over half an hour. It felt unnecessarily petty and dismissive.
Trying to get anyone’s attention after that was nearly impossible — we couldn’t tell who was actually a waiter and who wasn’t. The casual vibe is nice, but it would really help if staff wore something identifiable (like name tags or aprons). When we finally did get someone’s attention and asked a couple of simple questions (like how many prawns come in the entrée serve), we got short, one-word answers without eye contact. There was no friendliness, no effort to engage, and the overall tone came across as rude and uninterested. Unfortunately, this wasn’t just one waiter — every staff member we interacted with seemed similarly dismissive.
It’s a real shame, because the food was genuinely delicious. But the service completely ruined the experience. For the $100+ per person we spent, we expected at least some basic warmth and attentiveness. Perhaps the restaurant was understaffed, but better training in customer service and communication would make a huge difference.
