Ooh, finally an opportunity to try some of that real Polish food! That was what I got here, but I had to wait too long for it. But first of all, this is not the restaurant of the same name in Świnoujście, which is several miles north of here and half a mile east of the border with Germany. Nor is it the one in Kliniska Wielkie, which is east of Szczecin. This restaurant that I'm reviewing is in Szczecin, and it is one of the locations on the periphery of the circle known as plac Lotników. Just want to be sure that this place is not confused with somewhere else.
The menu is written in three languages: Polish, English, and German. I got a waiter who spoke English just fine. I ordered a pstrąg pieczony z duszonymi warzywami (whatever that means) for 36 złotys. The English description says "baked trout with stewed vegetables, boiled potatoes." Man, Polish is such a weird-looking language next to English.
Anyway, the wait for this was way too long. It took nearly forty minutes for the entrées to arrive. Even half of that would have been pushing it back in the United States. The appetizers took less than ten minutes, but forty minutes for the entrées? That's almost inexcusable. That's really a shame too, because had they brought them out in a more timely manner, this restaurant would have easily gotten a five-star rating from me.
The food here really is that good. My baked trout really was one whole, gutted trout. I don't know how they did it, but apparently they cut open the midsection of this fish and stuffed it with vegetables and some other good stuff. There was plenty of food provided by the trout alone, although removing the bones from my mouth using my fingers was a bit embarrassing in polite company. The boiled potatoes on the side of the dish were also delicious.
I got a weird look from another customer as I tried to take a picture of the pig statues next to the bathroom. I thought the idea of having an artificial pigsty in a restaurant was unusual where I'm from, so I had to record the moment. Also, that price of 36 złotys somehow turned into 43 złotys, but the waiter never gave me a receipt to prove it. I don't know what he charged me for, or whether gratuity was included in the bill, but the price is still well under what restaurants in the United States would have asked for. Shame about that long wait time, though.
