Copenhagen Is the Capital of Christmas—What to See and Do

"A short train ride north of the city, this museum in the former home of the author of Out of Africa (Isak Dinesen) traced her 1913 journey from Copenhagen to Kenya and her 1931 return; the estate also includes a restaurant, a shop, and a wildlife sanctuary where a quiet path leads to Blixen’s grave under a giant beech tree." - Tamara Shopsin Tamara Shopsin Tamara Shopsin is an illustrator, graphic designer, writer, part-time cook, and co-owner of the New York City eatery Shopsin’s. This Flight Might Be the Best New Way to Visit Africa

"Before a visit to the adjacent Karen Blixen Museum, the Out of Africa author’s old farmhouse “at the foot of the Ngong Hills,” still full of her furniture and books."

The museum is set on the very estate where Blixen ran her coffee plantation between 1917 and 1931. It's not just the artifacts inside that make this place worth a visit—it's the atmosphere. The silence of the gardens, the rustle of leaves, and the panoramic view of the Ngong Hills feel like a living poem. Amazing time and place with my beloved lady...

Informative, historical, mind blowing and very familiar. Her story draws you in as though you might have crossed paths in another life. The intricate pieces of her desires around the house leave you with a sense of awe and appreciation of her timeline. Great place to visit to understand Karen the enigma and Karen the area

The Karen Blixen Museum is charming but a bit limited. You can’t take photos inside the house, and there’s very little to read on your own, so you mostly depend on the guide. On the plus side, the guide is very friendly, the house is beautifully preserved, and enjoying a cup of coffee during the visit was definitely the highlight.

Who hasn’t seen Out of Africa or read the book? If you’re in Niarobi looking for an interesting place to visit, then you just found it. The Biden house beautifully preserved with many original furnishings. You are given an escorted tour of the house and property with interesting description of history of the property. Watch the movie before you go to better appreciate the history of this once 6000 acre estate and coffee plantation!

Gorgeous place, set much a must visit when in Nairobi. It is amazing to realise that all the area today known as “Karen” once was one families plot of land. Hardly imaginable….

Nice place to visit when in Nairobi. Buying tickets requires at least a phone and wifi, mpesa or card, no cash. Price includes a tour guide who walks you through the house. You'll definitely get more out of it If you have read her books or watched the movie Out of Africa.

Interesting spot to visit. The guide was lovely and helpful, toilets are not clean, the cafe is nice, a small market is always there. A gift shop as well. If you’re a movie fan, watch “out of Africa “ before you go there

This is one of those a must-visit places whether on vacation or as a domestic tourist. But there’s a catch.. the secret to truly enjoying and appreciating the rich history of Karen Blixen Museum is the guide assigned to you. We got lucky with a passionate intern, Kennedy. You will not only get to learn about the museum, but also about one of Kenya’s finest neighborhoods, Karen, which (spoiler alert) gets its name from the magnificent lady, Karen Blixen.
