Not recommended for the price or the standard it claims to offer.
The Karibe presents itself as a grand, high-end hotel with strict guest expectations, but the reality doesn’t match the image. Many areas feel worn and not well maintained, with large “no luggage here” signs that break the atmosphere. Loud lounge music from old speakers plays constantly, which adds to the sense of neglect.
The real issue is the service. In good hotels, the staff makes the experience. Here, I felt unwelcome from check-in. Questions at the reception were met with short, dismissive answers, delivered with an attitude that made me feel more like an inconvenience than a guest. At breakfast, staff served themselves at the buffet before guests who were still waiting. This tone repeats itself in many small moments.
I’m fully aware of the difficult context in Haiti, and I’m not judging the country. I’m judging the hotel against its own pricing and the standards it claims to uphold. And the mismatch is simply too big. If you impose a dress code, charge premium rates and market yourself as a grand hotel, the service needs to live up to that. Here, it doesn’t.
Additional issues: unstable internet, no drinking-water dispensers, and very high prices (e.g. USD 6.30 for a Coke Light).
For what it pretends to be, and for what it costs, I cannot recommend this hotel.
