Cool comfort: Why Australia loves its gelato (even in winter) - SilverKris

"A creative project born during lockdowns that celebrates Filipino and Southeast Asian flavours, this shop offers inventive gelato rooted in nostalgic comfort and bold regional ingredients. Its best-seller, ube halaya, layers earthy purple yam gelato with gooey ube fudge, blackberry jam and toasted coconut curd for a rich, slightly savoury and bright profile; the brand has multiple Melbourne locations and recently opened an outpost in Burwood, Sydney." - Victoria Khroundina

The ice-cream here is phenomenal! The flavours are Filipino-inspired and we absolutely loved the ube, pandan and four seasons. Authentic flavours combined with some textural elements made it a truly enjoyable treat.

Wanted to try this for awhile and we quite enjoyed our choices. There’s quite a few flavors to choose from for their ice cream and they have additional menu items we missed out on too. The flavors weren’t too bad but the texture is a bit icy as when we got samples to try, the ice cream couldn’t stick on the sticks as they became chunks pieces instead of being scooped. I was thoroughly impressed with the halo halo as I’ve never had it with the ice so blended but it actually made mixing the flavours a lot easier so it’s something I recommend.

Filipino and Asian inspired gelato flavours and other specialty products from cake to handhelds. These ube lava cakes are limited edition winter warmers. Delicious.

Came in for a sweet pre lunch treat and got the ube, mango float and pandan. Flavours were ok. The ube and pandan tasted more like extracts, however, they were still nice and creamy. The mango float tasted fresh though and mangoey. I don’t mind the exposed walls and unfinished look, however, I feel like something more can be done the seating arrangements. Looks a little bare, the premises could easily fit more tables and chairs…. not sure, something is missing. Just doesn’t look cozy or inviting atm. Customer service was very good and friendly.

There are some unique Filipino inspired flavours here for an overall good experience, but nothing mind blowing. Prices are okay, and the interior could do with a bit of a touch up as its a bit off putting to see bare walls with unfilled holes in them, even if that is meant to be the vibe.

Came after the hype and the place wasn’t busy when I got there. They even let you have a try on the flavor before you buy it. I got to try a few flavors and they all tasted pretty good. I ended up with ube and Pandan kaya as they seemed like the signature. Loved every bit of them as they were rich in flavor and the portion were generous. It didn’t taste very creamy but still smooth to my liking. Would love to come back again to try other flavors on their menu! All the flavors looked attractive to me!

Went into Kariton last week for icecream after hearing about it for ages, and it didn't disappoint! We couldnt choose between all the flavours so ended up with 3 scoops. We had the Pandan, guabanyo and the turon, and all of them were delicious! Super smooth and creamy. Our favourite actually ended up being the guabanyo, not too sour or sweet and just right. We also got to try the taho, and loved that too. Never enough icecream!

Unique flavour combinations, friendly staff and bright and clean gelato place. They are generous with the tastings but now have a limit of 2 flavour tastings per person. We tried three scopes. Scope sizes is slightly smaller than other places at same price point. Durian is creamy and pungent, four seasons will satisfy any citrus lover but the leche flan was the standout with real flan pieces. Limited seating options inside so we just walked to nearby Chinatown to eat. On our second visit we tried a few new flavours which were also hits. Calamansi which has a fragrant, lemony flavour is great for those who prefer more sour flavours. Ube was creamy and intense. Also tried the limited time cheese miss which was was a great replicate of cheesecake flavour. Overall we enjoy what Kariton has to offer. However like before we found that the scope sizes are a bit inconsistent depending on who was serving you. Also note that there is a 15% surcharge on Sundays.
