Karl Johan Hotel (Oslo, Norway) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Karl Johan Hotel sits at the intersection of Norway’s past and present, its Berlin Baroque façade looking out onto a street that has hosted royal processions, national holidays, and generations of flâneurs. What began in the 1800s as a timber guesthouse has evolved into a character-rich property spread across three historic buildings, each room slightly different in layout, view, and personality. Mornings begin with one of the city’s best breakfasts, and end, often, perched on a windowsill with a coffee, watching the world go by." - Tablet Hotels

Very excellent staff and breakfast. The breakfast had a ton of variety. The rooms were on the smaller side but it was manageable with 2 people. The rooms were so quiet I slept very comfortably. The hotel did NOT have parking, I'd use public transport next time. However, everything was walking distance from main attractions. Loved my stay here!

Great location! We were staying here for a few days before going on a cruise and we were very happy with the location and service. The location is right on the main street so it was lively and yet the room was quiet and clean. We were able to walk right to the hotel from the train station which was nice as well. The front desk people were so helpful and kind and made us feel welcome right away. Breakfast was included and was delightful. Thank you for a wonderful stay and looking forward to staying there again when in Oslo!

Absolutely loved our stay at the Karl Johan Hotel. Yes, the room was cozy, but we knew that when we booked and we don't spend much time in the hotel when traveling aside from sleeping so it was perfectly adequate. Beds were comfortable, the room was clean, and all of our needs were met. We really enjoyed the breakfasts. Great options offered and the auxiliary dining room, up a few steps from the main seating area, offered spaciousness and windows to the outside. Location of the hotel was great; we walked nearly everywhere, using the tram only when we ventured to Frogner Park for the Vigeland sculptures.

Great location in the city for walking to all the tourist attractions. |Over looking the Christmas market if you have a front facing room. |Clean and functional. B&B only. Friendly helpful staff. |We had a front facing deluxe room which was a reasonable size for a city hotel. |Breakfasts are a buffet a good. Choice of near on everything. |The room sound proofing from general city noise was good. |Except I have the hotel only three rating because it’s next to a night club and on Friday night there was very loud booming music until 3am. Impossible to sleep.

A lovely hotel right in the heart of Oslo, very convenient for exploring the city. The room is spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom has everything you need with excellent water pressure. Breakfast offers a great selection and good quality. The only minor downside is that the hotel layout feels a bit like a maze, so it can take a moment to find your way to the room. Otherwise, it’s a great stay overall!

We spent a night at the Karl Johan Hotel in Oslo and were genuinely impressed from the moment we walked in. The location is incredible — right on Karl Johans Gate, within easy walking distance of the Royal Palace, the Opera House, and some of the city’s most scenic streets. The hotel has a calm, elegant atmosphere that makes you feel immediately settled after a day of travel. The lobby and common areas are well-designed without feeling pretentious, and the check-in process was smooth and welcoming. The real standout, though, was the room itself. The bed was by far the most comfortable we’d experienced on the trip — supportive but soft, with fresh, high-quality linens that made it genuinely difficult to get up the next morning. The windows opened onto a charming street view, letting in natural light without the noise you’d expect from such a central location. The bathroom was modern and spotless, with excellent water pressure (a small but important detail after a day of trains and walking). It’s clear they’ve thought carefully about the guest experience here. For anyone traveling through Oslo and wanting a blend of comfort, design, and unbeatable location, Karl Johan Hotel delivers on all fronts.

Excellent location and comfortable stay. Karl Johan Hotel is right in the city center — just a short walk to the Royal Palace, shops, and restaurants. The room was clean and cozy, with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Staff were friendly and professional, and the breakfast had a nice variety of choices. Even though it’s in a busy area, the atmosphere inside the hotel felt calm and relaxing. A great base for exploring Oslo on foot. 🌟

I recently stayed at Karl Johan Hotel in Oslo for one night and had a very pleasant experience. The room was spacious and quiet, with a comfortable bed and soft mattress that made for a restful sleep. The bathroom was also of a decent size and well maintained. The location is absolutely the best, right in the heart of Oslo, making it very convenient to explore the city. What stood out the most was the staff, very welcoming, attentive, and always happy to provide guidance, which made the stay feel warm and personal. Overall, a great choice for anyone looking for comfort, excellent service, and the perfect location in Oslo.
