Among the many restaurants in Hamburg, you can feel that the taste of the fish dishes here is particularly good. If you are unsure about what fish dish to choose, I strongly recommend ordering the "Karo Mix" menu. This dish is put together so you can taste several types of fish at once, making it an excellent way to experience the flavors and textures of various fish. Initially, when the food arrives, the portion might look a bit small. However, with the warm bread and fresh salad served beforehand to whet your appetite, and by gradually enjoying the main fish dishes, you will find yourself surprisingly full. Overall, the quality and taste of the food are excellent, and it will be a great option for anyone looking for a satisfying fish meal in Hamburg.

It's a famous and only fish place in the area of Feldstraße Schanze. Fisch is fresh though it's too crowded and sitting is tight. Hard to talk among each other at a table. They use too much oil and it's pretty hard to get noticed by the waiters. One time try is recommended.

The fish is so fresh and the preparation is delightful. Good portions too. Good location, service and since it's a Turkish establishment, they serve Turkish coffee that is not on the menu and is as perfect as the meal and believe me you will need it after eating all of it, like I did! Please go. Enjoy!

The mixed fish and seafood platter was really good! Especially the fried potatos had a great seasoning. The deep-fried calamari were okay. My friend had a whole "scholle" which was good too. The restaurant was a bit noisy. Prices are slightly high. Overall, okay experience, but no need to come back

The best place to try out different varieties of fishes. It is always crowded but definitely worth it. Everything is fresh and without so many strange sauces which is my preference when it comes to fish. Definitely recommend

Food comes in large quantities and is fine. Unfortunately a large portion of the menu is made of farmed fish from the over side of the world. Makes one wonder if the whole menu is not made of farmed fishes which is rather disappointing from a fish restaurant in a harbour city. The service is friendly. Place was very busy a Tuesday evening.

This little restaurant which focuses on fish is really popular among locals and travelers alike. Came here today at the advice of my airbnb host, who described the restaurant as a typical Hamburg style seafood restaurant. Got there around 7pm on a Monday and it was really packed. I was eating my myself and asked the hostess where to sit- she said I could sit at smallish table with two other German lads. At first, I thought, how can I do that? Wouldn't they mind? But then I had remembered that communal style seating is quite common in Germany, so it was quite alright. It also was quite rainy, but that didn't stop people from coming in and queuing up to eat. My German was quite rusty, so I didn't know what half the things were on the menu (German only). So I opted for the Fischmix which a lot of people seemed to have ordered and enjoyed both on Yelp and TripAdvisor. The Fischmix, which comes with 5 different types of fish including tilapia and salmon, was really good and tasty (also a little salty- as expected as mentioned by previous reviewers), but I enjoyed the flavors and the dipping sauces to add to the fish. The Fischmix comes with a side of sautéed vegetables, which I ate with each bite of fish with some of the dipping sauce. Also, each fish entree comes with a salad, bread that's topped with pesto, and potatoes (which I chose the "chips" option). Definitely a hearty meal and well worth the €11.90 for my Fischmix entree. I'd definitely want to come back here again sometime on another trip to Hamburg and try all the other fish dishes. Hopefully next time I'll have more time and pop by Karofisch again soon!

What's good: 1) FREE bread and three sauces that were delicious 2) good choices of fish 3) crunchyness of the fish and chips What's not so good: 1) Cooked and fried with way too much oil that it's almost greasy. The vegetables are dripping in fat and the fish soup is 1/5 oil 2) the fish soup was disappointing but the fish was fresh 3) the portion sizes are smaller than expected. How is it compared to schabi? 1) Better in atmosphere and choices and their fish and chips and sauces + free bread 2) Worse in how it's grilled, freshness and too oily However both schabi and Karo are cheaper but both didn't convinced me in their taste and made of of their fish m chips.

Walk in fish restaurant! The restaurant is sort of a mix and match of seafood and sides. The mixed grills were a great taster for all the different seafoods they have. The restaurant is very no frills and fast service, but worth a quick stop!

Super fresh and reasonably priced seafood. Everything is grilled right there. The owners are friendly and the place is no frills. You May have to share tables but who cares! All the seafood comes with salad and sides. Don't forget to check the specials board for fresh fish of the day. I had the Rosa dorade and loved it!

We were visiting Hamburg a few weeks ago and came across Karofisch as we were walking back to our Airbnb from the Convention Center. There tables outside and inside were packed and there was a wait, which is always a good sign. As soon as had a chance we grabbed two seats outside. I had the fischmix and my bf had a full fish (I forget which one ) but we both really enjoyed our meals. While we waiting for our food, we spoke with some nice locals who told us this restaurant is one of the best restaurant for fish - delicious, clean and not too expensive. They were right! We went back to Karofisch a few days later and had fish sandwich...sooooo delicious. While we were eating, we spoke with a lovely couple from Vienna who told us they visit Hamburg 3 times a year and each time they go to Karofisch for lunch. We're from California, and if visit Hamburg again, we definitely will go to Karofisch again too!

Karofisch was on my list of food places after seeing it on the @Hamburgfoodguide instagram. I just got back from a 3-day backpacking trip in the Austrian Alps, so on my return, after having eaten hearty meals in the Alpen Hütten (mountain huts), I was craving some good old Hamburg seafood. For the price, this place is perfect! (~7-12 Euros for plates, 3,50 Euros for a quick fish sandwich) Getting a seat outside may take some extra time (depending on when you go), but WORTH IT! But that's just a personal preference, I enjoy eating outdoors even if it's less spacious. In Germany, you normally have to pay for everything - from water to refills. But here, the garlic bread is free - bonus! You can imagine that I was already in a really good mood by the time my entree got to me. I got the mix platter (Fischmix) just because I knew I wouldn't be back any time soon so I wanted variety. Maybe it was the timing and circumstance that had me enjoying Karofisch so much, but as a lover of seafood and not spending too much money, this place is an ace!

Kind service and huuuge portions of food. The mixed fish grill filled me up and I had to save the mixed salad I ordered for later. There isn't much seating, though.

This restaurant was recommended to us by Evan, our Sandleman's local walking tour guide. The fish was fresh and delicious. It comes served with 3 dipping sauces--fish was so tasty without using the sauces. The potatoes have a yummy seasoning. This was the best meal we had in Hamburg! We ate a late afternoon lunch and there were many tables available.

What a wonderful meal! Super crowded but they work magic to make everyone fit, even sitting people at open seats with others. As a party of two, we were sat at a four top with another party of two. Some people might not like this, but it promotes social meal time! Unfortunately we did not speak the same language as our dining companions but I love the idea and that the owners aren't afraid to make people a tad bit uncomfortable. Their fish is amazing. The potatoes, wow. The fresh veggies, ahhh I wish this place existed in the states too. If I ever make it back to Hamburg this will be my first stop!

Delicious fresh fish. It is sort of a fast food place in its atmosphere, but the quality of the food and service is far beyond that.

This is my favorite place to enjoy delicious, fresh, absolutely scrumptious seafood in Hamburg. Everything they serve is grilled, sauteed or fried to perfection. And the waitstaff could not be more accommodating. So glad the summer months are ahead to enjoy our lovely meal outdoors.

The interior did not thrill because it looked like a place that does a lot of frying and grilling and moves a lot of fish. We had a grilled mixed fish plate and an order of fish & chips. Immediately garlic bread (so-so) and salad were brought to our table with 3 dips to use with our fish. There was a lone Japanese guy eating there as well as two Korean guys - all eating the mixed fish plate. Eventually an Asian girl came in with an older man and they too ordered a mixed fish plate. I took this to be a good sign for good food. Outside was busy with locals. The prepared salads sat uncovered on the glass counter above the display of raw fish. Everything was simple and delicious, but I will not lie, the dubious cleanliness made me worry about possible stomach issues. Everything would prove to be fine.

Really cute tiny restaurant but if you need space and want to have private conversations, then this place is not for you! On the other hand, if you are looking for freshly grilled fish and do not mind sharing your table with a couple you don't know, that's the perfect pick. And, guess what? It's really affordable (mains for ~10€)!

When all restaurants in the area look empty and forgotten except the one where the queue lays over the entire sidewalk, do you really even have to wonder where to eat? Not spacious but I loved chatting with our danish table-mates

Very ordinary restaurant . The food was too oily. I ordered a prawn dish. It was ordinary too. Utterly disappointed.

Friendly staff. Small tables. Reasonable prices. Fish was overly salty but otherwise solid.

I went at 8pm and didn't get food until 8:30. they were busy till 9..... it's ok. meal was good but value wise it's phenomenal but the wait is crazy. karo mix plate is almost 15 and the fish plate is almost 12

My favourite place in hamburg for fish. Eat here at least once per week. Highly recommended.

This place has the best fish for the price. When i come to hamburg, i make sure to stop here! 11 different kinds of filets grilled to perfection, all between 7.50 and 9.50 euros. Fish n chips 6.50. Fish kebap 3.50! Atmosphere-wise though, its definitely more of a chip shop than a restaurant, dont bring your date here unless its a very relaxed one.
