I would have said that it was quite a pleasant little restaurant for the Karoo town of Victoria West. However, the man (the owner?) Who "greeted" us was extremely snooty about us not having a reservation as if he owned or operated the best restaurant in perhaps, Sandton or The Village in Pretoria with clientele lining up at the door instead of the four bakkies that were overnighting in this small town. This prompted me to review the restaurant in the same light as his snootiness implied. Perhaps as a La Parada or Marble. The chops were passable, although I doubt they were sourced from a Karoo plaas, but more likely from the N12 padstal or perhaps from Checkers 60/60. The chips were of the reheated frozen variety and the salad was the most basic of garden salads. I have eaten more exciting salads at my children's nursery school year end. I had a choice of starch with my mains, but the rice, yes dear reader, the RICE was out of stock!!! Also the Malva pudding and the milk tart was out of stock and many other things too. Most definitely there was no rice pudding. The swimming pool is empty and filled with leaves, the decoration barely adequate and the street dangerous with an alocohol infused gathering of locals on the corner. On leaving the owner or manager obviously expected a glowing review and was most displeased with my "it was alright " when questioned and had to ask me twice in disbelief. The Spur has better cuisine and my gardener more manners. The evening was rescued by the sparkling personality of the young lady waitress who rolled with the "punches" and served us wonderfully despite not knowing what beers were on the menu.
Perhaps get a garage pie or eat at the local Merino junction hotel. Certainly don't trouble yourself to eat here, your commerce will not be appreciated. I await the no doubt acidic rebuttal at my leisure. No I did not pause to try to guess which puddings might be in stock and I did not try the wine.
