On the Grid : Karura Forest

"The prolific Wangari Mathai projected and liberated Karura Forest. This beloved forest - about 2,630 acres is a great space to escape for a run with your dog or simply take a walk with the family. Take a picnic in the lovely park and walk in nature in a mostly undisturbed forest." - New Colony Studio

"Nairobi's Karura Forest Right in the heart of Nairobi, the Karura Forest isa tranquil oasis with fragranteucalyptus trees, open expanses of wild grassland, a waterfall, and hundreds of types of wildlife, including birds, monkeys, and even antelope. On weekends, Nairobians walk their dogs here, cycle the dirt tracks with their families (bike rentals are available), and walk the many trails throughthis 2,500-acre urban wilderness. Enter via the Limuru Road entrance for the waterfall and for access to the River Café, and via Peponi Road to enjoy a quieter side of the forest."

Aside from the scenic nature trails, Karura Forest also has a hidden gem—a charming café where you can unwind with refreshing virgin cocktails (not all😇) and light bites after your walk!

Beautiful forest, so calm and peaceful. We rented bikes when we went first time but second time chose to walk instead. Both were lovely. There are two paths apparently. One is 5km and the other one is 10km. Marked up as yellow and blue. We saw a lot of people walking also with their kids and friendly dogs.

Really great place to spend a few hours. Did the bike rental and trail ride which was really fun. Nice waterfall on the route. Trees create a beautiful canopy which keeps things cool. Some of the trail is a little tough to bike.

A mother natures gift to mankind the waterfalls are breathtaking and a must visit. Abundance of nature and scenery and a calming walk for the casual family or love birds still……
