12 Best Boutique + Luxury Hotels in Marrakech, Morocco - AFAR

"Kasbah Bab Ourika is a breath of fresh air after days spent in the middle of the city. It’s perched on the edge of the Atlas Mountains that form a backdrop to Marrakech. There’s a rustic chic vibe here with views of rust-red hills and green valleys from the extensive gardens. This is a place to slow down, to wander in the shade of the olive trees, to take a leisurely float in the pool, and to lie on a lounger and gaze out at the idyllic views, perhaps accompanied by one of the friendly resident cats. There’s a sunny terrace for al fresco lunches and cozy rooms in the main house for drinks and chats surrounded by vintage art pieces, old trunks, retro typewriters, and bowls filled with fresh flowers. The kasbah’s 42 rooms are all individually decorated with local handicrafts and artisanal pieces. Most have outdoor space, and some have their own pools. The Retreat—an 11-room, three-level villa with panoramic mountain views, a private pool, sun terraces, social spaces, and plenty of privacy—is ideal for those planning a party." - Nicola Chilton

Kasbah Bab Ourika

"One of the most beautiful spots in the Atlas Mountains. Verdant hills of olive and lemon trees and terraced gardens surround the hotel (which grows its own organic produce). Interiors are about tones and textures, gorgeous browns and creams, and rough-hewn leather and rope."

Gorgeous views, beautiful gardens, peaceful and secluded. This is not the four seasons but what I would call rugged luxury. Come here to go off the beaten path but not far from Marrakech (1hr drive). We had a beautiful room and the AC worked only in our bedroom. The WiFi was better than we expected from other reviews (it worked in our room as well as reception). We had a beautiful patio overlooking the valley and mountains. I’m glad we went here but it’s not for everyone. The food was very good and as two vegetarians we had no problems. We also had a lovely breakfast despite other reviews saying it wasn’t great. The general grounds are gorgeous and it’s worth coming if you enjoy that. We also used the spa and had a lovely massage and manicure. We did a nice hike off the resort and enjoyed our time by the pool and doing yoga. We would love to come back in the winter!

Loved all around world because it is so special, this place is the real deal. It is perched on top of a hill, surrounded by beautiful hikes, or shorter walks to the village. Spending some time sitting on the terrace, watching the view of amazing blue river running through the valley from the hills would be enough, but this small boutique hotel also has a Morroccan hospitality, lovely food and drinks and a real authentic atmosphere. Walk around the garden where they grow all their own veg. Do yoga with a beautiful view. Rooms are full of character, gardens are something from a movie and the pool area is amazing. The spa is very special. No wonder it is such a favourite with celebrities, and luxury travel writers. If you like large, marble, impersonal 5 star resorts where every room is the space and the restaurant feels like the Ritz, this is not for you. Go to one of the many huge chain hotels. This is for people who go the extra mile for the real deal and like a luxury experience, where staff are local and well trained in hospitality. Great place to spend a few nights and see the real Morocco.

This is a beautiful property. Be aware though that not all rooms are good. Suggest you pay the max you can afford to get the best one. Initially we were put in Deluxe Suite 12 which was terrible - dark, no windows or views from the main bedroom, no sitting area, and above the service entrance to the kitchen and unbelievably loud. We had to put ear plugs in just to relax after dinner and be able to read. However after raising it with the manager, they went out of their way to rectify, moving us the next day. We had our choice of four rooms, and spent our second day/night in an absolutely stunning garden suite with sweeping panoramic views of the mountains and valley - suite 27. So beautiful and a major upgrade. And they refunded me half of the first night. So this more than made up for night one and made our second 24 hours wonderful. On the food - lunch and dinner were actually fairly good and not too expensive. Breakfast average though

I want to start by saying this is one of the most beautiful rooms we have ever stayed in. The panoramic pool suite was a dream! Spacious room with unbelievable views from every part of the room and terrace. The grounds are also incredibly beautiful and well cared for. Being that it is not close to anything we appreciated the excursions and activities offered. One drawback, which we expected knowing the location and from other reviews was having to eat in the same restaurant for all 3 meals for our 3 night stay. Although the food was good the menu was quite small with not a lot of variety/choices. Breakfast was included but did mot include much beyond eggs, yogurt, fruit and some bread. On the first morning this www served outside and the eggs and yogurt were left in the sun which soured the yogurt. The second morning was inside and much better. |We found the customer service less than desirable. Instead of giving us information on our stay, Kasbah , when the meals were served, etc, we found ourselves having to ask a million questions instead of this information just being provided to us. But the most concerning and disappointing was on our check out day when the water was turned off before we left the Kasbah in the middle of us getting ready to go. No flushing of toilet available and no water in the sink to wash hands or your face. When I reached out via email (twice) to get an explanation for this I received absolutely no response which is completely unacceptable.

Beautiful Place with great views and very peaceful. Staff is very nice and helpful. Lovely pool and different spots to relax in the well maintained garden. In the evening the staff lits up fire on the terrace to enjoy to sunset with a drink. We did two medium walks with Mustapha who is an excellent guide very knowledgeable about nature, plants and makes interesting conversation about the history of the place and the culture. In short we enjoyed our stay and found it very relaxing.

This hotel is very unique, set in a beautiful location, it is focused on pure relaxation. The gardens were beautiful (especially the rose and kitchen garden) and had so many places to sit and appreciate the view. The pool was great and terraces were just magical. I will remember this stay for a long time, especially the beautiful sunsets with all the fairy lights, lanterns and fire pits. The restaurant was reasonable priced, the food was delicious and the setting was beautiful.|There was a lovely spa too, where we enjoyed a foot treatment after a mornings trek. I would love to stay here again and I’d recommend it too anyone who appreciates a bit of understated luxury and is looking for a beautiful place to unwind ❤️ xx

We adored this stay. Incredible views, tranquil location, and wonderful food. And a good wine list which can be hard to come by in Morocco!

This hotel’s mountain location is beautiful, but there are no restaurants nearby, so we had to eat at their overpriced restaurant. The food tasted like a school cafeteria’s, and they messed up our order right away. By day 3, we couldn’t wait to leave. The rooms were dusty, smelled strange, and felt old. The towels had a terrible odor (I’ve never seen this, even in cheaper hotels!). The whole place needs renovation – faded blue photos, peeling walls, and dirty carpets. The spa was awkward: the masseuse used oily hands on my feet, then touched my face without washing them. Unhygienic and unprofessional. This hotel is NOT 5 stars. It should be 3 stars at most until they fix the cleanliness, update the rooms, and train staff properly. I won’t return or recommend it to anyone.
