12 Best Boutique + Luxury Hotels in Marrakech, Morocco - AFAR

"Kasbah Bab Ourika is a breath of fresh air after days spent in the middle of the city. It’s perched on the edge of the Atlas Mountains that form a backdrop to Marrakech. There’s a rustic chic vibe here with views of rust-red hills and green valleys from the extensive gardens. This is a place to slow down, to wander in the shade of the olive trees, to take a leisurely float in the pool, and to lie on a lounger and gaze out at the idyllic views, perhaps accompanied by one of the friendly resident cats. There’s a sunny terrace for al fresco lunches and cozy rooms in the main house for drinks and chats surrounded by vintage art pieces, old trunks, retro typewriters, and bowls filled with fresh flowers. The kasbah’s 42 rooms are all individually decorated with local handicrafts and artisanal pieces. Most have outdoor space, and some have their own pools. The Retreat—an 11-room, three-level villa with panoramic mountain views, a private pool, sun terraces, social spaces, and plenty of privacy—is ideal for those planning a party." - Nicola Chilton

Kasbah Bab Ourika

"One of the most beautiful spots in the Atlas Mountains. Verdant hills of olive and lemon trees and terraced gardens surround the hotel (which grows its own organic produce). Interiors are about tones and textures, gorgeous browns and creams, and rough-hewn leather and rope."

I rarely write reviews but I had to for this hotel. It is probably my favorite hotel I have stayed at EVER and I travel A LOT. ||The setting is totally magical and the design is absolutely dreamy. There are so many lovely spaces to enjoy inside and the outside spaces are enchanting. ||This hotel is certainly sophisticated but also kid friendly. We came with our two kids (ages 12 and 10) and they enjoyed exploring the grounds, playing archery, ping pong, playing board games and making lots of cat and dog friends. There is also a beautiful pool that was heated. We did two excursions directly from the hotel - a hike with a guide in the national park (right behind the hotel!) with a fantastic lunch at a Berber home afterwards. We also did a camel ride at sunset that was a lot of fun! ||Dinner and the included breakfast were phenomenal. Our room was incredibly comfortable with stunning views. ||Everything was perfect. If you get the chance to stay here, DO!! I would come back to Morocco just to stay at this hotel.

What a beautiful and relaxing place. We read some of the negative reviews here on trip advisor after we had booked at were a bit worried. We need not have been! The road up to it is a bit bumpy and muddy yes, but this is all part of the experience. Staff were friendly and attentive. We loved our accommodation: spacey, stylish with its own outside areas for the day and a warm roaring fire in the evening. The location is amazing and the grounds are beautiful. It was pretty much full when we were there, but there are so many little spaces to chill in amongst the olives and the junipers, a different spectacular view from each. Very much worth the money.. and we will definitely go back.

A lovely retreat in an unparalleled setting; we stayed for two days and for us that was the perfect length inside of a 10-day Morocco trip. ||The premises were gorgeous, with gardens meticulously maintained and onsite activities available like archery, ping pong, and two pools (one overlooking the valley). I'd skip the excursions to the village etc if you're only there a short time. We took a camel ride and if anyone chooses to do that, be prepared for flies and maybe tie a scarf round your mouth to keep them off your face. The camel master was deaf but communicated through gesture, very friendly guy. ||We stayed in the Retreat, newer part of the property overlooking the mountains, and the room was modern and stylishly appointed. its down a graveled hill, so keep that in mind if you're less able bodied. In terms of the service: I was happy with the kindness and effort of the staff; while the responsiveness was sometimes lacking, it was not a big deal as I came here to slow down anyway. I didn't come here expecting American-style fawning attentiveness and if you need that, this might not be the place for you. The website might be a little misleading in terms of relative polish.||I read another review that complained about "unhygienic practices" during the massage; I didn't find this to be the case at all, and also, I wash my feet before a massage so don't have an issue with hands touching my face after touching my clean feet. My massage was excellent and as a bonus, was outdoors with a view. | |The restaurant food is above average, but not at all fine dining, so perhaps bring some delicious snacks of your own for decadence.||Breakfast is buffet-style in the main building and also at the Retreat building: scrambled eggs, moroccan-style scramble, and expected spread of olives, fruits, breads, jams, cured salmon etc. Nothing to write home about, but combined with the tranquil setting, it's a charming experience.

We stayed in Kasbah Bab Ourika for 3 nights in October and had a fantastic trip. |The hotel is stunning and luxurious with a feel of home, many different rooms and areas to sit or chill in. ||The grounds are stunning and our garden pool villa was gorgeous with incredible views of the mountains. ||The staff were all amazing and couldn’t help enough. A big thank you to Ahmed who saved the day with his help in a crisis. | There were many varied trips and we had 2 wonderful guided days out. |The food was phenomenal. |I wish we’d had longer to explore the area and chill in the hotel. I would go back in a heartbeat and would highly recommend the hotel

At the end of our 3 week journey around Morocco, my husband and I spent two nights at Kasbah Bab Ourika. It's in a perfect secluded location with stunning views of the mountains, yet a quick drive to the Marrakesh airport. The public spaces, terraces, outdoor restaurant and gardens were beautifully decorated in the local style. When we arrived around midday we were seated in the garden to enjoy the view with mint tea and refreshing lemonade while we waited for our room to be ready. It was a gracious and relaxing way to start our stay, and it wasn't long before we were shown to our accommodations.||Our suite was huge and full of character with quality amenities. We had a 2-tiered terrace with loungers below and a table and chairs above, where we spent quite a bit of time soaking in the panoramic views. Inside we had a cozy reading nook featuring a day bed loaded with pillows for cushy lounging, a comfortable king sized bed, a spacious bathroom with a tub overlooking the mountains, and a separate shower. The towels and robes were plush, though there weren't any slippers. Some reviewers complained about barking dogs, but we were lucky not to hear any noise overnight and slept very well.||We booked a trek with a local guide that was perfect. Not too challenging but it afforded lovely views and good exercise. There are several treks that you can choose from based on your level of fitness and interest, or you can wander on your own. The helpful young man who checked us in recommended starting early to beat the heat of the day and it was excellent advice.||Breakfasts and dinners were good, though dinner service, while congenial, was a challenge since the restaurant was so busy. Breakfast was supposed to start at 7:30 am but they didn't have most of the food available until about 7:45, so on the day that we had to leave at 8 am for our flight, we were rushed. We especially enjoyed the shakshuka and other hot egg preparations the day that we had more time to relax at breakfast. ||The pool, set in the garden, was a good temperature for bathing and the loungers were comfortable, though not always available since the hotel seemed to be full, or close to it. There were many children so it was quite a bit noisier than we would have preferred. We regretted not having booked a pool suite, which undoubtedly would have afforded a place to swim along with the peace we desired. ||We still enjoyed our stay here quite a bit, though we tend to prefer more intimate properties, so it wasn't one of our favorite places on the trip.

Beautiful hotel located in an amazing location. Rooms and garden are very beautiful, like a little paradise. It is somehow lacking in fine details. The service, is okay not exceptional the breakfast is bad, no expresso coffee, cold food and the diner is only okay. We do eat very well in Morroco, but not there. I was expecting much more from an hotel of this price. There wasn't enough towel at the pool and the pool was always swamped by a group of German guys. It was uncomfortable to go bathe. The bed in our room broke, the towels in our rooms were not changed everyday, electricity outside kept breaking. They also moved tables outside late at night and it was very noisy. Service wasn't the best as an exemple we were refused a table of 4 well located because we were 2 but the day after they allowed it to other clients. In the relaxing garden where we should be relaxing it was very noisy, there was a screeching noise that was really unsettling so we had to move away. Not the magical experience we should have had. I rarely do bad reviews but I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

From the moment we arrived to the minute we left we were throughly looked after. The location at the foot of the Atlas Mountains was perfect but the 360 view from the hotel has to be experienced to be believed. The staff were so friendly, the food delicious and our accommodation was so comfortable. |I had a facial in the Spa and it was so so good. So welcoming and spoiling. We were taken on a guided walk around the National Park which surrounded the hotel by Zach which was amazing. |Can’t fault this hotel or the services it provides.
