Kasbah Ellouze, Tamadaght, near Ouarzazate, Morocco - Explore & Book

"This remote and romantic kasbah is run with authentic charm and unfussy style by a friendly French couple, Séverine and Franck, who first fell in love with it in 2011 on their humanitarian aid trips. Perched on a rocky hill, the Atlas peaks framing the distance, its red adobe towers overlook a startlingly green Garden of Eden. Wheat fields, olive and almond groves, and meadows are intersected by glistening streams, rising out of the expansive ochre landscape. People come here to escape from the world, to soak up the magical atmosphere and to explore the ancient architecture – both natural and man-made. Every vista resembles a film set - you may recognise backdrops from Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth or Gladiator, which was shot in the ramshackle Kasbah Glaoui next door. In the Kasbah, labyrinthine corridors twist around the hotel, leading to large terraces with Berber-style cushions, low carved tables and dreamy views over the lush gardens, where swallows wheel and dive at sunset. Off the central tiled courtyard, with its bubbling fountain, are several lounges, an informal dining room (and adjoining terrace), an outdoor heated pool and a handful of simple but homely bedrooms. Life moves slowly here and Kasbah Ellouze remains its best-kept (and best value) secret. Highs Bucolic surroundings- snow-capped peaks, red-walled forts, stunning gardens - and the romance of staying in an ancient kasbah, with hidden corners, stairs and multi-level terraces Tasty home-cooked 3-course dinners with creative, daily-changing dishes (and it's included in the rates!) Activities include fantastic guided walks visiting ancient kasbahs and troglodyte caves The stunning Unesco-listed Ait Benhaddou kasbah is only 3km away, and this area makes a great stopover between Marrakech and the southern deserts Great value for money Lows Some rooms don’t have a view of the garden, and design buffs may not relish the simple, homely décor Don't expect any nightlife, other than an occasional visit from local musicians Touts can be a hassle at nearby sights like Ait Benhaddou, but the village around the kasbah is wonderfully relaxed Expect the odd fly over dinner and a bit of dust in your room: you're out in the sticks after all We haven't visited since Séverine and Franck took over from Michel and Colette, but early feedback is very promising" - Ben Reed

My husband and I went as part of an anniversary tour package my friend and tour guide from Uncovered Trails prepared for us and all we can say is wow wow! The place was magical and the owner and staff were super friendly and welcoming. Location was excellent and it was like being in a movie set or some magical land from a book. |We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the place, and we slept so well! I had a wonderful evening on the rooftop of our Kasbah listening to the nearby music playing, traditional one, and watching the night sky, the lovely breeze and it was just perfection! We do recommend this place and they even have a pool and the kasbah is very spacious! Tons of rooms if you have large family or friends. I definitely would go back!

Incredible place with hosts who can't do enough for you. Severine and Franck are warm, charming and thoughtful hosts who made sure we had the most relaxing couple of days. They thought of every detail we needed, including some sweet surprises for our young son, and catering to his very fussy diet. He loved it here and didn't want to leave. The food was the best we had in Morocco. The Kasbah is beautiful and I can't recommend it enough.

My wife and I spent one night at this property. As it had just been taken over by new proprieters, they were in the process of settling in and looking after guests at the same time. I must admit that Severine and Franck (the new proprieters) did a fabulous job in ensuring that we had a comfortable stay and were very customer service oriented. As were their Staff, especially Omar and Mohammed. They made a special effort to provide us with a vegetarian dinner which was very tasty. If you stop in Ait Ben Haddou, consider staying at this property.

This is a magical place. Colette and Michel take such exquisite care of the restored kasbah, which they evidently restored with great care and love. They are wonderful hosts, warm and welcoming. The kasbah is tucked away in a tiny village that feels to stand back in time. The meals were prepared with care and delicious. The "garden" behind was gorgeous. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. I would recommend to anyone interested in an authentic experience of the Moroccan countryside hosted with the panache of French innkeepers. Bravo!

Beautiful, traditional hotel with an incredible view over the old kasbah and the valley. Run by a French couple who just took over the hotel. Their hospitality and care is everything! A nice experience which i very much recommend!

We *absolutely* loved our recent 2 night stay at Kasbah Ellouze - we arrived 2 days into the new proprietors' tenure and it lived up to all expectations - a stunning property and location, lovely friendly service that made us feel part of the family, and I should add that the new owners have already started to make little tweaks to improve the experience (for example, we arrived back from a great walk down the riverbed to Ait Benhaddou, and were offered lunch - the former owners were very clear (in writing!) that their Kasbah Ellouze was *not* a restaurant, but the new owners could not be more accommodating and within minutes, a lovely berber omelette and salad was presented, and needless to say, was delicious!). What a place, what a setting - really special experience!

The Kasbah Ellouze is one of those places of rest that evokes the charm of the past. While looking at the website, it might seem too good to be real. It however exceeded all our expectations.||We drove into a quiet village up the road from Ait Benhaddou and navigated our way to the parking area. A Moroccan gentlemen helped wheel our luggage to the lobby to meet Colette. After we checked into our room, we took a walk around the back garden. Small mountain streams feed the lush oasis. It's amazing to see such a patch of greenery in the arid foothills of the Atlas mountains.||The twin star of the premises are the nightly dinners arranged by Michel and staff. This might have been our best meal in Morocco. The food was traditional Moroccan, but with what I would say Modern French influence. As you might expect of an establishment owned/operated by a French couple, good wine is on offer.||The breakfasts on the sunny terraces are also incredible. There are many nooks and crannies to this old Berber home. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are very clean and relatively modern. However, don't be expecting five star room accommodations. The premises, environs and maybe the lovely food are what brings you to Kasbah Ellouze.||We were driving from Merzouga on our way to Marrakech. I could see the Kasbah being a relaxing destination on its own with little day trips to explore the area.

I spent one night at the Kazbah Ellouze in October and could not have been more pleased! Colette and her husband have created a remarkably welcoming oasis in a spectacular part of the world. My room was very basic and is, IMO, due for a bit of an update, but it was comfortable and met my needs. The common areas were well appointed. The food -- breakfast and dinner -- was wonderful! Generous and tasty. :) Colette was welcoming and gracious, as were all other personnel I met who are associated with the guest house. And the setting is stunning -- truly spectacular. Highly recommended!
