8 Best Nightclubs & Nightlife Spots in Berlin | Condé Nast Traveler

"Parties go on for the majority of the weekend at Kater Blau, which, aptly or not, translates to "blue hangover." The Spree-side club has an arty, pleasantly anarchic energy about it, and between the confetti rain and the permanently floating-ship-cum-dance floor, good vibes abound—once you get in. DJs are booked far in advance, with most of them spinning techno, house, and electronic—luckily, there are more than a few places to catch the music, so feel free to bounce among the dance floors. Go in the summer, when the sun is out and when Berliners recover from their winter hibernation by dancing the night and day (and day and night) away." - Krystin Arneson

One of the best club experiences I’ve ever had in Berlin. I actually ended up here by chance—after not getting into Berghain on a Saturday afternoon, three friendly Germans invited me to join them at another club. I was alone, so I thought, “why not?” and followed them. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was light, welcoming, and just full of warmth. The open-air area had just opened up, and it slowly filled with the most colorful, friendly, smiling people. Everyone was kind, people came up and talked to me, and although I came in alone—I never once felt alone. The music was amazing, the energy was uplifting, and something about the atmosphere made it feel like the whole party was just for me. If you’re looking for a place with good music, good people, and a truly beautiful vibe—this is it.

We were five friends visiting from Georgia, looking forward to enjoying Berlin’s nightlife. We had no issues getting into any other venue—except this one. After a long trip across the city, we were told at the door that we “looked great,” but because we were a group of five, we wouldn’t be allowed in. If your entry policy includes arbitrary rules like denying entry based on group size—despite appearance, behavior, or attitude—it would be incredibly helpful (and respectful) to make that clear in your description. It would’ve saved us time, energy, and disappointment. There’s nothing exclusive about wasting people’s time.

The place itself has it's unique vibe and I really enjoyed it, but the thing I wanted to mention in the first place was the bouncers! The one in glasses made our evening being so kind, funny and welcoming! Great atmosphere!😇

I understand Berlin is known for club exclusivity but we bought tickets and the place had 0 line. The employee made sure to get my name and he checked off on the RA app that I attended, just so I specifically could NOT get a refund and then proceeded to reject us after leading us on. Just rock bottom scum activity…. It’s one thing to not let in foreigners, but to scam them out of their money after doing so is messed up.

I was filmed in an inappropriate way there by someone despite the no camera rule in the club, later encountered a shady frequent visitor of the club where he was offering controlled subs in exchange for indescriptible "favor". First night in Berlin and i will never come back. I didn't feel safe nor free

Are you a foreigner? Well, then you’re not getting in. Dive into the rich culture of discrimination against outsiders in this beautiful city, be part of the experience! Get ready to wait in long lines just to be rejected with no explanation at all. Here, xenophobia is part of the charm 🙌 Don’t miss the full Berlin nightlife experience

Kind and friendly employees. The community inside was also friendly and supportive. We met with super souls there and enjoyed the Eastern party a lot! Of course, we'll come back soon 💘

Me and my friend were visiting from England. Bought the tickets 2/3 months in advance, spent €20 on an Uber across Berlin to get to the club. We arrived completely sober. They asked to see our tickets and as soon as they realised we were English they told us “it won’t be happening tonight, it isn’t gonna work”. Our clothes were definitely not the problem because their demeanour was very warm before we opened our mouths. He asked for my name so he could give a refund (which I’m still waiting for). He told us to leave and another guy approached us to try and intimidate us. I asked politely if there was any particular reason we can’t come in and he said we “don’t fit the vibe” and they started to get angry so we left, while the Germans in the queue looked at us like we were dirt. Leaving us in the cold in a random part of Berlin. When we came to Berlin two years ago we had no problem getting into other clubs. If foreigners are not welcome, maybe don’t let foreigners buy tickets to events, that way no one will have their time and money wasted. They also did not apologise for wasting our time

Yelp
This club harbors their violent, out of control buddies. A man who was too drunk/ high, or just plainly out of control knocked me over the head on the dance floor while talking to other people in an animated way. l confronted him and he was visibly irritated. l did not expect gratuitous violence at the club and told a bouncer, who removed the guy from the dancefloor. But then this bouncer, who is a POC, returned to tell me to comfort the aggressor because 'he said he didn't do it.' Feeling outright unsafe at this point, l exited the club with my friend. Several people at the door began to harass me. One man got in my face and kept repeating, 'Who hit you? Who hit you?' Some began to speak in German, appearing belligerent. There was only one woman at the door, whom l made a point to describe the scene to even though l was being harassed; she acknowledged me but did not put forth any strong dissent toward her group. The aggressor, who felt so entitled he didn't even acknowledge his actions, and got his way, was most likely associated with certain people who work at the club. Disgusting behavior.

Yelp
Don't waste your time. Bouncer was extremely rude. Just wanting a beer and listen to some good music that I heard from outside. Would not let me in cause he said I didn't look right for the club. It's was 6pm in the afternoon and I looked like everybody else that was going in.

Yelp
If there was a way I could give this place negative reviews I would. Before we even spoke, the doorman said sorry we only allow people on the guest list or regulars in here tonight. Meaning we only allow white Germans in here. How do you know we aren't in the guest list when you haven't asked us our names? I haven't even said a word so how do you even know I don't speak German? I pity the people that support this enterprise because you are feeding money into a racist establishment that should be shut down. Sincerely, people who will happily spend their money elsewhere. Btw, reviews from other sites echo this same experience.

Yelp
Don't waste your time coming here. If your not German, you won't get in. We'll spend our money somewhere else.

Yelp
Love that place. So grungy and creative and packed with beautiful ideas. It feels like being in Hogwards. Loads of little rooms, connected by winding hallways. You'll definitely get lost in there. It's all about the people they say. And that depends on a great door policy. In my opinion, they do a great job. The crowd is international, hip and drugie, but still very open minded and harmonious. So if you feel like a weekend retreat, that's the place to go

Yelp
Went here on a Sunday after getting rejected from Berghain- if you're thinking of doing the same, don't bother! The clientele were dressed in disgustingly tacky outfits and the music was absolutely awful :) very generic club beats for hours and hours. The venue itself is really cool! Maybe we just went on a bad day/time/party?

Yelp
First time checking out this club last night. Arrived at 3am and even then the line was long! But it went by fast since a fair amount of people were being turned away... Yea the door policy sucks and the bouncers might suck as well, but once you're inside - alles ist gut :) Very unique venue with multiple dancefloors/rooms and the typical Berlin techno, but this night with more pop. I was relatively sober and still enjoyed dancing to the music ;) the crowd was aged 20-30 and everybody was dancing and enjoying themselves, great energy. Would definitely come back again. Tip: stand in line in pairs of two. it helps if you're with a girl. you don't have to be silent, just don't be loud. also entry was 12 euros.

Yelp
This club is awesome for cats, I went there about 6 years ago and tried to get in but was told "No!" by a very pretty german lady with curly hair and nice sunglasses. I returned 2 years later and approached the club after a few days of Berghain partying was getting too much for me, there was a cool looking gent up front this time, he had some really cool eyes that made him look like a real cat... "Sorry, guest list today!" he was nice about it, but i was a bit upset at first. I started asking about some friends back home to see who can put me on the guest list, personally i like to get the approval from the door people, but I also learned that they mostly just allow cats inside. I have been hanging out with loads of cats and whenever i get the chance I always try to appreciate their company and adopt their mannerisms, hopefully I am becoming more cat like and will get in there next time!

Yelp
If you're American and don't speak any German good luck it's a very exclusive club. Apparently for locals. If I could give it negative stars I would. A buddy and I weren't let with out asking us any questions the doorman said sorry you may not come in. I asked why and he simply said because we do not know you.

Yelp
If you don't speak German, don't bother! Also if you wear a lot of black, don't bother! I got into every other club and bar in Berlin I tried over the course of 2 weeks spread across 2 different trips a couple years apart, including Renate which were denying basically everyone in front of me.

M. B.

Yelp
Door policy is just Ridicolous and completely amateur, almost illegal, to use an euphemism. We bought our ticket after being admitted, got the stamp, them we left for a while. When back, we got refused with the most ridicolous excuse i've ever heard, although we paid the ticket and were admitted earlier. The worst thing is we were NOT refunded. There are so many jobs in this world to choose, let the club business to competent and passionate people!

Yelp
Silly door policy. Coked out hostess arbitrarily turned people away at the door in the name of exclusivity, I guess.

Yelp
So not worth the time. Better spend your time at Club der Visioanere. Recommended by local DJs. 6 mins away with cab, much better music system, drinks and environment. Kater Blau is a hit and a miss, run down old building under the bridge.

Yelp
Apparently hostile to foreigners - stay away! My wife (Colombian) and I wanted to take a look at the Kater on March 29. At the door we (as we do it since 22 years) spoke Spanish to each other and when the doorman (wearing a green sweater) saw and heard us speaking Spanish he immediately raised his eyebrows and asked us in an arrogant tone "May I ask you where you want to go to?". We just said in perfect German "We would like t take a look at the Kater". He replied in an even more arrogant tone "I don't think so". When we asked in German why we were not allowed to get in he (without knowing our names) replied: "Because I can't find your names on the guest list". We were stunned and decided to leave immediately since such a hostile behavior we have never ever experienced worldwide - no matter if in Germany or abroad. Dear Berliner and Berlin guests - if you want to avoid to be treated extremely arrogant we strongly recommend to go to other Bars & Clubs in Berlin. The city is full with wonderful and friendly Clubs, you can find them all here on Yelp. In a Club with such an arrogant and obviously hostile to foreigners doorman no one should spend his money!
