I found Fern's by Kate's because I was desperately looking for authentic Goan food in the Palolem/Agonda area and stumbled across a Lonely Planet review. My partner and I went there for lunch - and before we knew it, we'd moved in for ten days. ||||The food is incredible. I've never eaten so much in my life. The Goan dishes were superb. So were the North Indian dishes. And the Continental. Basically, everything is superb at Fern's. ||||Our room was lovely. Right above the restaurant, overlooking a quiet and leafy street, with the beach just across the road. It was done up in beautiful dark wood (so was the bathroom) and came with a private verandah. It was neat, clean, warm and beautiful. I didn't want to leave. ||||The staff were so kind and helpful. Despite having to deal with demanding guests/customers day and night, they never seemed irritated, they were never late with an order, they never forgot anything. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. ||||But the best thing about Fern's by Kate is Kate - or, Catty. She's one of the nicest, warmest people I've ever met, and the place is what it is because of her. (She even organised a haircut for me, slipped me chocolates, and made a special dessert on my last night.) ||||I've been going to Goa for years, but no place I've stayed at has been as wonderful as this one.
