This museum concentrates on drawings, prints and sketches rather than sculptures. I was very impressed by the elaborate techniques she was able to employ - I had no idea. You can learn a lot about Kollwitz’ personal life and development, too. Well worth a visit. Though in the city centre we found it a bit hard to find the entrance: you have to enter the passage between the Sparkasse and a café at Neumarkt and then walk through to the very end from where you will have to take a lift to the 4th floor. Some more signage would have been good.

A fantastic collection of this artist who had an acute ability to capture the lives of her people and her times. Print series like "The Weavers", "The Peasants Revolt" and " War" sharply depict the lot of ordinary people, their anger and their hope for a better life. The War series reflects also her own grief at the loss of her oldest son in WWI. I didn't know anything about Käthe Kollwitz before I visited the museum. I came away with a strong sense that she was an important witness of her times, an artist with a vision both sharp and tender, and one that probably deserves to be better known outside Germany than I suspect she is.

The Käthe Kollowitz is such a special space—first and foremost, they use their space to spotlight other artist whose careers have shaped our current understanding of art but go overlooked in larger museums/galleries. Second, the thematic grouping of her works and the biographical snippets through the museum really connect the viewer to her artwork. If you are in Köln discovering art, I highly recommend this space. Note the entrance is via the galleria and up, find the elevator to bring you to the top floor. They have a €6 entrance fee if you aren’t a student.

Very nice museum with nice people working there. We had some trouble finding the entrance. It's the glass elevator inside a shopping hall. You should take it to the 4th floor. There was a booklet with English translations for the current exhibition but the permanent collection didn't have that many English translations. We used Google translate to translate some of them! Beautiful collection!

The museum is owned by the bank Kreissparkasse Cologne. It holds the largest collection of the artist Käthe Kollwitz. There is a very intresting collection of sculpturs as well as pen and ink drawings. The artist lived from 1867 to 1945. ---------------------------------- My star rating legend: Excellent / Exceptional ☆☆☆☆☆ Very good / Special ☆☆☆☆ Above-Average ☆☆☆ Below-Average ☆☆ Something is wrong!? ☆ ----------------------------------

This small museum is dedicated to the deeply affecting works of Käthe Kollwitz. Kollwitz portrays love, strife and grief from a woman's perspective like no other and her message is as important today as it was in her lifetime.

Very much enjoyed the carefully curated exhibition Eva Besnyö photography, including interesting related artefacts. Nice rooms, quiet atmosphere, friendly people, worth the detour.

Need elevator access to the 4th floor. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The English guide book clarifies a lot of the works.

I didn't know much about Kathe Kollwitz before coming here, though I knew she was an important artist. This is one of two museums in Germany for her work, and it includes a large collection of her sketches (also wood cuts, sculptures, etc.). It was interesting to see some of her early work; most of her work is socially engaged (anti-war, pro-worker) or about mothers and children (tying into the anti-war theme). While this is interesting, the series of self-portraits, a love scene or two, and some standard nude model sketches rounds out the picture of her work. The museum was designed for the collection and it's on the top floor of a shopping center (the Neumarkt Gallerie); admission is cheap and it's well worth a visit.
