Kathryn Markel Fine Arts

After walking on the High Line I stopped by Kathryn Markel Fine Arts on 20th street for the opening of Nancy Cohen’s solo exhibition, which was beautiful. I was especially captivated by the group show that Cohen curated in the second gallery. The staff was also very knowledgable and friendly. Don't miss this gallery if you're in the Chelsea area - they have a wonderful roster of contemporary artists.

While walking through Chelsea, I stumbled upon the Kathryn Markel Gallery - what a gem! The current exhibit is amazing and I will always return when visiting NYC. The staff is knowledgeable and so friendly. Do yourself a solid and make sure to swing by the gallery whether you’re a tourist or a New Yorker - fabulous!!

No one in New York has better, eclectic and remarkable artistic taste than Kathy.

Among the best art galleries in Chelsea

Just plain rude and snob-nosed. Exactly as the stereotypical expectation of the privileged, seemingly educated on paper but presents self rudely and was unpleasantly empty on the inside as though she is above the rest. Will Never step foot there. This is a one and only time personal experience with who i believe was Kathryn. Perhaps she was having a bad day and I contacted her at the wrong time, i dont know but , was not nice. First impressions are everything sometimes.

Granted I stopped in at a rather unconventional viewing time....11 on a Thursday morning.....but I wasn't greeted by either of the staff there, and there was a small dog walking around the gallery (not joking) and a drool-caked tennis ball laying in the center of the room. Praise the Lord I'm not in the business to buy any artwork....if I was, I would've walked right out of this place. Based on my initial impression I would issue one star (though I'm not inclined to do with anything art related)....but the art on show was interesting and their website gives a better impression, therefore boosts them to two stars. It wasn't the best work I've ever seen, but an interesting mix from four Louisiana artists. Weird, but fairly good. Loose the tennis ball and gain a star, there's promise for this place. Very unprofessional. I expected better but the director, Debra, is out of her league if she conducts business at such an amateur level. Everything from the way she communicates to her methods of communication is novice and riddled with unprofessionalism.

I came by to check out the show mentioned in WSJ. For my taste it was a good show. Checked out more of their stuff on the website. The prices are reasonable, and the art is sensible, some of it beautiful. The staff was available but not aggressive, but I wasn't looking to buy either. When I am, I'll be back.
