Katie's Kitchen

On a driving tour of Lancaster County last August, we found this restaurant advertising authentic Amish food. So we went for lunch one day. The wait staff are dressed in Amish clothes and were friendly and helpful in explaining the menu. She guided us to items which are Amish favorites and were similar to me a a Southerner. It was very busy and we had to wait about 30 minutes to get a table. All in all, it was a very nice experience and the food was very tasty.

We were headed to Hershey Farms Restaurant. It costs a lot. My Godson said that Katies had really good food. We arrived at 5.30 and they were almost ready to close. 2 seats opened up at the counter so we sat there. What is Katies? It is a very simple Amish Restaurant with authentic Amish food, the way they like it. It is not Pennsylvania Dutch. Everyone who works there is a female and they range in age between 12 and 50+. One of the youngest kids handled the register like a pro and was incredibly polite. And, there really is a Katie. Because they are Amish and put God before everything else, the atmosphere is genuine, happy, and servant-like. Not fake by any means. Everything is home-cooked. It is not like going to a diner. Everything is presented very simply. Now if that is what you like then this place rocks. They serve rolls with peanut butter spread. The rolls were very dense and delicious with the spread. Their wings were amazing and huge for the price. All their sauces are homemade so you have to be ready for new flavors. The fries are the way I like them. There was plenty to eat with free refills on soda. I watched the line cooks prepare the food. They have down a system that really works. It is spotless. The bathrooms were really clean. The general seating area was simple and not too big so there could be a wait. Our bill totaled $35 with tax and tip. A lot of the stuff on the menu becomes an extra, but a meal is way less than other places. The best part of this place are the people who work there. I felt so good after leaving there. To see a community work together to create a very special menu and atmosphere was so refreshing. I really believe that this comes because they keep themselves from all the mental polution our secular world affords. If you like the above then come and enjoy a nice simple dinner.

Seriously one of the best dining experiences in my life. Every item that our group tried was amazing. For starters we had sweet potato fries with maple syrup which was delightful. Dinner rolls were freshly baked and so tasty, and the peanut butter with marshmallow cream they were served with was so good we bought a whole jug of it afterwards to take with us. For main courses we took Mac and cheese which was heavenly, meatloaf with gravy which was phenomenal, and Parmesan chicken which was very very good. The fresh drinks are very good too, I especially loved unsweetened pineapple juice. For the value and the portions you get the prices are reasonable too. All the ingredients are fresh and everything tastes very good. You can also get really nice smelling artisanal candles made from coconut wax at the checkout, which we did. Absolutely wonderful, this dining experience was a highlight of my day.

We had a fantastic experience at Katie's Kitchen during our visit with my wife and five kids. The food tasted just like homemade, with comforting, delicious flavors that made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, perfect for families. Our kids loved it, and so did we! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a cozy, home-cooked meal.

We had lunch there yesterday, based on its reputation. It was busy of course, but the wait for a table was short. All the pretty decor was for sale, the aesthetic didn’t match the outside. Employees were friendly, the restaurant was clean. We both ordered homemade platters, my husband loved his meatloaf, my ham was really good but the buttered noodles were bland. Both of our plates would include dinner roll and homemade peanut butter, according to their menu. We didn’t get that, no explanation. We observed other patrons getting bread while we waited for our food, and as we were leaving too. Our waitress was friendly but she completely forgot about us, while she’d check on her regulars multiple times. When she finally came to us, we’ve been done for a while at that point, i had shared my drink with my husband as he had ran out of it. I still tipped when paying my check, but as the hostess mechanically asked how everything was, I explained it wasn’t great as our server forgot about us. The hostess had no response and just took my money. I had intended to purchase some of the items for sale, but at that point, I just wanted to get out of there. Initially I was planning to return there the next day for breakfast, but after this disappointing experience, I changed our plans and went to a different restaurant.

The service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. You can't beat the prices either. The home-baked bread and tuna fish with cherry peppers was amazing. Love the homemade peanut butter served with rolls on the table. My husband had a fresh turkey sandwich and a bowl of the cheeseburger soup and thought it was excellent. I wish I lived close by. I would be there every week
