15 Best Things to Do and See in Georgia (Updated 2025)

"Visiting the Katskhi Pillar in western Georgia is unforgettable: this natural limestone monolith over 130 feet high supports a seventh-century church complex on top, was inhabited by a monk until 2015, and now only monks climb the steel ladder as part of their pilgrimage; the buildings were recently refurbished and a visitor center is planned." - Matthew Kepnes

Amazing place in Georgia. This was perfect view in perfect weather. It's free to enter the place. Not required ticket. You can't climb up. We recommend this for everyone.

Definitely worth the visit, some beautiful scenery and has a small museum free of charge. A short walk from the car park up a massive hill to the monastery, then a further walk to the viewpoint, there are no shops nearby so be sure to take water with you. The grounds are very well kept also and there are candles available to buy for prayers.

looks really cool and very interesting unfortunately you have to walk 300 m to the base of the column, and you it rained quite a bit I skip it, but I guess it’s more interesting from close

The "Katskhi Pillar" is a striking natural limestone monolith located in western Georgia, near the town of Chiatura. Rising approximately 40 meters high, it is often called the"Pillar of Life"or the "Most Inaccessible Church in the World."

A beautiful place. There's a lot of parking space nearby. If you dont want to drive uphill, there is plenty of space to park down. Tho you will have to walk uphill, but there are stairs, so it's easy. The garden outside is spectacular, plenty of flowers😄. There's a small cemetery nearby

This is a great place to have a quick excursion off the highway. Note: you can park up close to the column if it's not crowded. But if you like small hikes and want the grandest view of the column, I recommend parking in a specific lot on the road to the column. This lot has a rock paved trail to the column. It is scenic and has a spectacular view on the way up to the column. I added pictures of the lot and it's surroundings at the end of my photos if you think that's the way for you.
