Small restaurant down a side street. People waiting to enter, but only had a 5 minute wait. Make your choice at the ticket machine. Staff very friendly, gave us an English menu to help us choose. Had a demiglase & egg katsudon. Super juicy, soft pork. Definitely recommend

Ordered the rosy with sauce over rice. Standard condiments given like miso soup and pickles. The green peas were interesting but it wouldn’t be my exact choice to pair this tonkatsu with rice and peas. The sauce was good and paired well with the Japanese rice. The chef had prepared the tonkatsu where it was not the usual bread crumbs crispy exterior, but it had a nice layer which went well with the sauce. It was the first time I had tasted such tonkatsu prepared in such a way so it was fresh and interesting. The service was fast as the cold water was already served before I sat down. Ambience was cosy and comfortable. Price wise was still reasonable (1100 yen).

When in Okayama, one should try the demi-glace cutlet. It was a bit too rich for my preference, but always love to try the local deliciousness. The restaurant itself has a very traditional Japanese atmosphere and if the demi-glace isn't your style, the egg style is also an excellent choice, or you can try both at the same time! Demi Katsudon is Okayama’s soul food so we had to try it. This restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff. It’s a simple dish - just a rice bowl with a thin tonkatsu on the top and demi glace sauce, very tasty and the sauce just right. They have other dishes too, but the katsudon is what they are famous for. The roast-katsu (fatty) is ¥900 and the filet-katsu (lean) ¥1000. The restaurant doesn’t have too many tables so if it gets full, you may have to sit at the same table with other people.

Nice and crispy pork katsu. The sauce was good, but a bit sweet to my liking. Very generous portion (had the regular size). Service was effective and courteous. Lunchtime crowd seemed to be a mix of office workers and students.

The demi-glace katsudon is quite mediocre, pork cutlet is poor quality - thin and not juicy. The sauce is salty and lacks flavour and sweetness as well. The egg katsudon is better, but nothing special compared to chain restaurants. Overall not worth waiting for. If there’s a queue, don’t bother.

Had been on the train all morning, stopped here for a late lunch based on the reviews, and was craving some authentic Katsudon. Ordered #18, the “Egg and onion pork tenderloin Katsudon set”. Incredible! Everything was excellent, and reasonably priced as well. Friendly staff, English menu available, and excellent food. Would definitely come again.
