Google
I have been going since they opened and have all the dishes (minus anything fish) I keep going back to the curry katsu pork loin . The curry is perfect consistency with amazing flavor. I never regret ordering this dish and the portion is huge. We had the cheese balls which were new for me and very good. A little chewy with great cheese filling . The chicken wings come with 3 dips however I like them without dips. Staff are friendly and food comes out fast a good place to eat.

Google
We picked the restaurant due to its rating however the food was really mediocre. For a restaurant specialising in Katsu, it was not impressive. We ordered the curry pork loin katsu and spicy chicken katsu. There was an overwhelming amount of breadcrumbs with a very thin slice of meat. It was a big piece but very thin, which does not taste as good when you’re having katsu. The taste of the sauces was very bland as well. The food did not impress. However, the service was pretty decent. We also tried the takoyaki but it was okay-ish.

Google
The bread wall display is so awesome! A symbol of handmade fresh crispy unique frying powder which makes every bite of Katsuya meat so yummy! Love the big big portion too! 👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️

Google
I had the cheese pork loin, and the cheese crabmeat croquettes. I could barely finish my meal because of how big the portions were. I definitely had to pack it and have a second meal later! The cheese pork loin was delicious, very cheesy, and paired with the sauce well. The crab meat croquettes were massive. It was really interesting, because I never tried this before. The sauce was strong but when you eat the whole thing together, it fits perfectly. The service was good, atmosphere was cozy. I'll definitely come back again!

Google
My husband and I went there for a lunch, saw a high rating here. We ordered the garlic spicy and original. They said they ran out of tender pork, it was unfortunate that we can’t try it. The pork size is huge, deep fried nicely in the crust. My husband likes the salad sauce, I prefer Yuzu sauce, more refreshing. The garlic spicy sauce is better than the original flavour. Auto-fill miso soup.

Andrew Lee

Google
Huge variety of sauces outside of the traditional katsu sauce, and big portions of katsu as well. Tried the carbonara, mushroom and the crab croquette. Definitely come here for the variety and portions, other places might be better for quality but it is also more expensive. Service was great, very attentive and made sure we got everything we needed.

Google
First meal of the day! Definitely worth it. Udon broth was super clean and refreshing. Tonkatsu was lightly seasoned and super crispy - perfect paired with the slightly sweet katsu sauce. The only thing I didn’t like was the consistency of the white rice - more on the firmer side which is not what I am used too as I always had rice cooked at high pressure levels at home. Overall experience was really great!

Google
I would like to review Katsuya Coquitlam. They serve various Katsu with traditional and fusion styles. We had traditional pork loin katsu and Japanese loin katsu. Food: miso soup was included as a starter and the katsu main dishes followed shortly. It was beautifully presented with good balance of colours. The quality of katsu was top notch. It was very crispy, not too thick but well fried with real bread crumbs, providing an excellent texture. I only have good things to say about their food. The portion and quality of cabbage were excellent and went well with their house dressing. The sauce for the two styles (original and Japanese) each provided their unique touch to the katsu, original being more smooth and creamy and Japanese being more tangy. Both were quite mild in flavour and would complement most palates. Service: They were having a $10 tasting event, so the restaurant filled up fast upon opening with around 30 customers. They only had one server to start with then a second server showed up shortly after. They only came once near the end of our meal to check how everything was. It was way too late. However, this may be atypical as they were in the midst of a busy tasting event with long lines of customers. Overall: Excellent food, clean restaurant. I will visit again with my children in near future.

Yelp
I went here on April 1st to not miss $10 promo deal. It sounded too good to be true. In fact, the food itself was really good to be true especially price, portion and taste. The $10 deal was cash-only by selecting either original loin or Japanese loin. Food was pretty good! They always use fresh meat with housemade bread crumbs. Meats were big and tender. The server was working alone dealing with multiple tables. He forgot to bring a complementary miso soup, but brought shortly after reminding him. Miso soup was a bit salty. Food was good. Loved the salad as well. $10 deal was pretty decent. I really enjoyed my food at Katsuya.

Yelp
Came for their 10 year anniversary promo - $10 for their japanese or original katsu set. We opted for the japanese because we don't like the katsu soaked in sauce. The size of the katsu was surprisingly big! The thickness is a big thinner than the japanese katsu places. The meat was a bit drier as well. I was not a fan of their cabbage salad dressing, which was soy sauce based as opposed to sesame based. The miso soup was really salty. Both made the set quite salty and needed to drink a lot of water. The rice was also soggy. The good thing was that the breading was fried really well. Quality-wise, it was not as good as Saku or Katu-san so charging the original price of $21.90 compared to $21.50 (Katsu-san) does not make sense.

Yelp
Katsuya really hits the spot when craving something hearty! I got the original chicken and it was really yummy. I'm not sure if they have unlimited salad and rice like saku because our server didn't mention anything but I think it is? The restaurant is nicely spaced out and comfortable to sit in

Yelp
After a full day power outage, my friends and I stopped by for a late dinner. It was my first time at Katsuya and my friends second visit (although it had been a long time since their last visit apparently). I ordered the pork tender honey and it was so good! They make their own breadcrumbs in house and it resulted in a super crispy crunchy light bite. Generous portions as well, with unlimited miso soup, rice, and cabbage. I managed to eat half and grabbed a refill of rice to go with my leftovers. Easy parking in the plaza.

Yelp
We ordered the special lunch set. Delicious food and big portions. Great service. We would definitely come back.

Constance L.

Yelp
The special menu is a steal! Good food quality, large portions. Must try out this food deal in town~
google avatar

Yelp
Cute restaurant with plenty of seating. Decor is quite simplistic but just a nice casual eats spot. I got the special set and there is super value in this set! The pork katsu and the deep fried shrimps were super crispy and fried to perfection. The small udon was delicious. Would totally get again but it's only available weekdays during 12-4pm. Service was quick and easy and tbh didn't need much else while eating. Would come again!

Yelp
The Katsuya here is good quality and very tasty. It is not greasy and is very crispy. This isn't a place I'd visit more than once every few months due to the price. I think for the quality and quantity of the food it is an "okay" deal. Each katsu dish is $23-$29. If you're really into katsu then this could be your go to place.
google avatar

Joo Youn N.

Yelp
Portion and taste are amazing. Will definitely coming back. Parking spots are plenty. Large space for any group sizes.

Yelp
I'm so sad the other Katsuya location closed on Robson. That location was the first one that I ever went to. So we decided to go to the Coquitlam location even though it was a further drive. This location was located in a convenient plaza. I ordered my favorite, the Japanese Katsu. It is a traditional Japanese-style katsu with Worcestershire sauce mixed with various vegetables and fruits. I like being able to grind the sesame seeds with the miniature mortar and pestle. I put it on top of the sauce after grinding it. I love how it comes with unlimited refills of miso soup and cabbage salad. I think they changed it so you only get one refill of rice instead of unlimited rice, but I usually only get one anyways. The service was great. There is a discount when you pay with cash. I usually split one katsu set and it's enough for two. I will definitely be back whenever I am in Vancouver!
google avatar

Yelp
Katsu was made fresh when we ordered, could hear the pounding from the kitchen to tenderize the meat. Food tasted great. Atmosphere is welcoming. Staff greeted at the door promptly. S

Yelp
First time here and ordered 3 amazing dishes, super delicious and satisfying ! Love the gold and silver katsu ! Amazing service and would definitely come back
google avatar

Airah Jane G.

Yelp
The portions are decent, good ambiance, price is fair! Their special set is worth trying!
google avatar

Queenie L.

Yelp
Carbonara Katsu If you are stern about your carbonara this is not for you. It was delicious but definitely not your classic carbonara. I would call this more of a seafood katsu. I liked how creamy the sauce as but I think I would stick to a classic curry katsu for next time. I recommend coming but I don't recommend the carbonara katsu. Tip 1: if you dine in, you get unlimited refills on salad and miso soup! Tip 2: you get 30% off if you pay with cash (not sure if it still applies but its been going on for a while).

Yawen D.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience at Katsuya, the service was attentive and friendly, this place offers an authentic and top-notch katsu experience. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed the special lunch set and chicken karaage, was tasty and filling for 2 people :)
google avatar

Laura L.

Yelp
Cute little shop with delicious katsu. I got the gold and silver katsu which is basically cheddar katsu and mozzarella katsu. It comes with miso soup, side salad, and katsu sauce. The honey butter fries were also a delicious addition to the meal. Prices were reasonable and the food came out pretty quickly.
google avatar

Daechul J.

Yelp
It's a weekday 12-4pm special menu coming with Japanese pork loin katsu, fried shrimps, Udon and side dishes. Staffs are so nice and this is my 4th time visiting here. I came with my friends from Seattle to show Vancouver foods. Definitely did believe this one is the only option.

Hillman L.

Yelp
Pretty large serving for the lunch special set, the food itself was not particularly exemplary, it was okay. The only issue I had was with the shrimp katsu which had more breading than shrimp. Service was good and attentive

Hyejun B.

Yelp
I ordered specal set! It was very good! I could taste many different side dishes and soup as well. I will visit here again. Love it!

Alfredino A.

Yelp
Good portions for the price, service is fast, ambiance was good! Very much recommended if you're craving for Katsu! Great menu selections, too!

Conrad C.

Yelp
Great spot for lunch and dinner! The katsu was delicious--crispy, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. Portions were just right, and the service was quick. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Ray H.

Yelp
amazing chicken katsu. I've ordered it with extra sauce. A bit pricy and had to wait 20 minutes for takeout. But for the amount of food you get it may well worth the price.
google avatar

Cy W.

Yelp
If you are looking for an affordable and quality restaurant, Katsuya is perfect for you. Their menu is not too big, but you know you are there for their famous deep fried pork cutlets. (They offer other protein choices as well) I ordered the Pork Cutlet in Carbonara sauce and my partner ordered that Udon in House special sauce (a cross between carbonara and Korean spicy sauce). The pork cutlet is of generous portion and it's good for two meals for me. The sauce is thick and creamy, but I could use a little more to go with my cutlet.
google avatar

Erin K.

Yelp
Great local Katsu! Have been here about a half dozen times and I've never been disappointed.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Katsu is crisp and tasty. Fried shrimp cook just right. Udon is great too. Recommend to order it when you come here.

ferdie s.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing! We ordered the Special Set Katsu and the Terrimayo sweet potato and cheese katsu. We've never had katsu as good as this! The servings were huge and cheap for their size! Good for 2-4 people. The service was amazing as well! Our server was very attentive and friendly. They also brought us potato croquette and udon soup on the house because they thought our food was taking a while which was super sweet of them!! The ambiance was also very cute and clean! They played good music as well. We are very satisfied!

Mandy Z.

Yelp
The portions are ginormous so definitely come hungry, I wasn't able to finish half! Good value for the amount of food you get in the lunch set (available 12-4pm), the katsu wasn't dry and quite crispy. We tried the fish, chicken and pork loin and they were all good
google avatar

Heize C.

Yelp
I love Katsuya! It's mine and my family's go to Japanese/Korean restaurant - I usually always get the fish katsu curry. They give you a lot of meat and it's just so yummy! I've brought my business partners to eat here and everyone else I know - they also love this place as well!

Lan L.

Yelp
Katsuya 555 Clarke road location is a nice place, the food is good, staff are friendly, will come back again!

Kevin L.

Yelp
Food is very good! Highly recommend for anyone looking for some tender Katsu. Came all the way from the States for this restaurant, and I don't regret.

Lingyun L.

Yelp
The katsu set has always been amazing here. Have been coming here for a long time. Their special set katsu menu comes with enough food for two and the variety of foods really adds to the dining experience.

Yelp
I was very underwhelmed by my experience here. First, the service was terrible and absurdly slow. We were the only customers at the restaurant, and it took them so long to take our order, and even longer for the food to come out. The waitress only came by to take our order and drop off our food. She never checked up on us and we had to stand at the counter for the check. For reference, we had a party of 3 and spent 2 hours here. The menu looks diverse, but it is difficult to distinguish the difference between items because they don't have any descriptions. Example: Sweet chili, white snow chili, white snow spicy, garlic chili, garlic spicy. What is white snow, and what's the difference between chili and spicy? I asked the waitress and she couldn't explain it, either. Anyway, I ended up getting the Carbonara Katsu. The Katsu was soggy and not crispy at all. The meat was not juicy and lacked flavor. Although there was a ton of carbonara sauce, it was bland. Based on the poor service, mediocre food, and high price point, I would not recommend Katsuya nor would I come back.
google avatar

Crystal Z.

Yelp
@katsusan_van is a slightly more affordable alternative to Saku. Interior was well decorated and I love how they have a map of the world in there! Service was also super awesome!!! I would come back the next time I'm close by :) Gold & Silver Katsu - $22.75 -- mixed with fresh Mozzarella cheese and the texture of Cheddar cheese. If you like cheese, this is the way to go to get the best of both worlds!! Katsuya Original Chicken Cutlet-- $20.90 -- made with their house sauce made with over 5 seasonal fruits, 10 vegetables, and 6 organic herbs." Look at that crisp!!

Lindsey L.

Yelp
This was a great place for lunch on our visit! We got the lunch special, and it was a ton of delicious food! They even bake their own bread to use for the bread crumbs for katsu every day! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Was in the neighbourhood and decided to give it a try, as a slightly cheaper alternative to Saku. Due to covid we ordered take out, and we're really impressed by how the packed fried food held up. We got the original Katsu; and the white and gold brick cheese Katsu. Portions sizes were good here, and the Katsu was fried well and was still juicy and crispy when we got home! As always it was accompanied by cabbage slaw with a sesame dressing, miso soup, white rice, and pickles. Everything was delicious, and I love how generous they were with the cheese... the cheese pull was impressive!! The mozzarella has a better pull, but the cheddar I thought was tastier. The original Katsu doesn't come with tonkotsu sauce, but with their house sauce which was more like Japanese curry. The house sauce was okay, but I would've preferred it with tonkotsu sauce. Pro tip - unlike Saku they also let you order extra rice, salad, and soup on takeout orders. A good place to have Katsu, and we'll definitely be back again!

Yelp
Food was good price was good. If you like deep fried food it's a must try. Thanks ,

Jenny M.

Yelp
The server was absolutely fantastic, going above and beyond. The portion of the foods was so huge and everything was soooooo delicious. I highly recommend to try cheese katsu with original sauce, chef's kiss

Yelp
Katsuya @katsuya_canada offers a special discount 30% off for take-out with cash payment during the pandemic. We order 1. Double Cheese / Japanese Katsu set. The Double Cheese Katsu go well by itself or with the Japanese Tonkatsu sauce. It is half mozzarella and half cream cheese. The pork are crispy outside and tender inside. The green salad helps easing and balancing the taste. 2. Pork Tender/ Garlic Chili Katsu set. The pork are crispy outside and tender inside. (The sauces and garlic chips are packed separately) I just add the chili sauce and garlic chips to the pork katsu myself. The taste is not as heavy as the double cheese katsu. Each set comes with green salad, rice and soup. 3. Karaage Chicken Thigh (Yang-Nyeon Chicken) with Korean Sauce It comes with some potato chips. The sauce is korean spicy sauce which is quite spicy. You feel the after taste . For cheese lover, you probably want to go for Double Cheese Katsu set. Otherwise i think other Regular Katsu set are good as well.

Eva H.

Yelp
The food is soooo good and the price is reasonable! Good service attitude and it is the best place for k pop lovers cuz they play the k pop music all the time.

Rency L.

Yelp
After making several rounds of trying different katsu spots, I was prompted to try Katsuya. First, the portions are very generous. We ordered the white snow chilli cheese katsu ($20.75), red carbonara katsu ($22), and karaage chicken thigh ($7.95). It was my first time trying katsu drizzled in sauce -- which is nice if you enjoy lots of sauce with your food. Frankly, I much rather prefer the original katsu with traditional worcestershire sauce on the side because too much sauce leaves the katsu soggy. There's unlimited miso soup and salad refills, but only one rice refill per person. Highly recommend giving Katsuya a try -- A+ on the menu variety. xx Ren

Yelp
I was looking for something good to eat after a nice walk at Rocky Point Park. I'm glad I called them beforehand because they were closing one hour earlier than posted on Google Maps. The restaurant is surprisingly larger than I expected. Tables were spread apart and there were two tables of customers when we got there. I got the original katsu with tenderloin and it was indeed quite tender. I asked for the sauce on the side and almost finished it all up. This came with unlimited miso soup and salad. The miso soup was fine, I've had better from Saku. The dressing went well with the salad. Perhaps because we were near closing time and also it's COVID, service was kind of sparse so it took a while to flag down a staff member for tea and the dressing. The staff were really friendly though and I had a good time.
google avatar

Em G.

Yelp
Reopened with Covid measures in place, meaning less seating and a bit more of a wait time. But they're coving they're bases by providing takeout, hand sanitizer and employees wearing masks. The food: The menus are on the wall with no pictures, so you may need to rely on Yelp or google for an idea what the food looks like. We ordered the original katsu as well as the chicken karaage (1 lb) with Korean sauce. *Make note: that when you order a katsu set you get unlimited cabbage salad and miso soup and an additional bowl of rice, when you ask for it. * The katsu was breaded with house made bread crumbs (you can see the fresh bread in the racks in the back) and deep fried to golden perfection. Served with a creamy tomato based like sauce. The chicken karaage is boneless, crispy and super moist! You can change the flavours by adding the limes provided or dipping it in the sauces provided. Also comes with potato chips for more crunch. 5/5 would come back! Go on a weekday and go early or at a non typical time otherwise you're going to have to wait.

Yelp
Huge Portions calls for a big appetite. This place has crazy big portions, and their menu is very big with lots of different options. The best part when you order a katsu set it comes with unlimited miso soup and salad refills and 1 refill on the rice. The salad (cabbage) it comes with has an amazing dressing which makes it so tasty and refreshing. * Cheese Crabmeat Croquette (3pcs -$5.25 // 5pcs - $7.75) ~ We ordered 3 pieces to share with the 3 of us, and it was super delicious, The sauce with it is a tartar like sauce and it was so good and tasty. I really enjoyed the sweet-ish tartar sauce pairing. The crab croquette was good too, had lots of flavour and good pieces of crab meat. Only regret not ordering more! * Pork Loin Curry ($18.75) ~ I like their japanese curry. I do wish there was more onions in the dish as it gave it flavour but lacked a bit. The katsu was super crunchy and crisp, and the curry was good with the rice. * Also got the Pork Loin Carbonara ($18.75). * 8/10 ~ I really enjoyed the croquette and the sauce it came with! The curry lacked a bit of onions and pepper but overall still delicious. * 8/10 ~ its pretty cheap compared to most katsu places and the portion is fantastic here, the miso soup and cabbage salad is unlimited refill and the rice has 1 refill. Total bill before tip: $45.00 (3 people). *

Yelp
A lot of these modern fusion tonkatsu places nowadays. This one offers a variety of toppings/sauces to choose from. This is their No.1 selling item, a cheese lover's dream. We also tried their sweet chilli garlic sauce chicken set and their honey butter fries. The batter was crisp but the sauce did not pair too well with the chicken. The standout was the fries, must order!
google avatar

Paula C.

Yelp
Eat now diet later...! That's definitely the mindset you have to go by here....who can resist that crispy batter?! Katsuya is a newly opened restaurant serving all things fried! And they do a pretty decent job! We ordered the Terimayo Pork Loin Katsu + Curry Pork Loin Katsu + Honey Butter Powder Fries. The Terimayo was a favourite where it had a lot of great flavouring and the batter remained really crispy! And an added bonus is they offer unlimited miso soup and cabbage and a rice refill too on Katsu sets! The honey butter fries was probably something we could have skipped - the texture of the fries resembles the costco fries quite a lot and it is very lightly coated with the flavored powder. Overall will come back here again for their Katsu. If you eat light you can probably go by sharing a Katsu set and a side! It's pretty filling! .

Yelp
Katsuya provides a Japanese experience that is not so common around here. When you think Japanese food, your mind typically goes to sushi or ramen right? But Japanese katsu is a huge staple of Japanese cuisine that is so often overlooked in North America. I got the Spicy Garlic Cheese Katsu, which is a mixture of pork and mozzarella cheese. While it was good, I don't think I would get this one again. The cheese is a bit much for me, which may or may not be a good thing for others, but it was just a bit too heavy in an already heavy dish. The spicy sauce isn't spicy at all, it's crazy sweet actually which is off putting to me and I would have definitely preferred the one without sauce if I had known the flavour beforehand. Outside that, the katsu was delicious. I love the fried garlic, and along with the juicy meat inside of the deep fried exterior, it's basically a match made in heaven. Pricing is not bad at 21 dollars for this plate, which easily filled me up. They seem to have deals on cash and takeout which would put it at a fair price to even have for lunch. At regular price, I'd say it's decent for dinner but too much for lunch. Location is comes with parking which is always nice. Overall, I liked the food, and I'd definitely come again. While I have some gripes, maybe they can be remedied by ordering something else. I recommend getting something without cheese or sauce if you're not a heavy eater or a big sweets + salty kinda person.

Yelp
This restaurant replaces the C-Lovers fish and chips place in Coquitlam and opened in the summer of 2019. It has a good selection of tonkotsu (breaded pork or chicken) as well as udon. I had the pork cutlet with terri mayo and my wife had pork loin with sweet chilli. You get a generous helping of pork and also a free miso soup. Other options such as fish or chicken tonkotsu are available as well as many sauces. The service is also excellent, I can't wait to go back and try other combinations!

Yelp
Yummy Katsu house! We came with the family (7people) so we could share all the Katsu dishes I learned from th chef that they bake their bread for the panko! The staff were helpful but it took awhile for them to take our orders, and to serve the food Each set comes with soup, cabbage salad and soup. The refills of soup, salad and 1 bowl of rice are free. I think 2 people can share 1 set and add a side Katsu Our favorites were the carbonara katsu, brick cheese katsu, Teri Mayo Katsu (with bonito flakes) The honey butter fries is a Must Try! The store is located in a plaza so there is free parking
