Kauai's North Shore Surfing School

My bf and I were so fortunate to have found Ethan during our trip to Kauai this December. He was hands down amazing, ridiculously patient, made us feel extremely comfortable, and we both got up on our boards on our very first wave and many more! If you are contemplating learned to surf don't look any further. Ethan is your guy, he makes every minute spend with him totally fun and has a ton of cool surfing stories of his own to share!! He is very knowledgeable about the waters and teaching methods are really intuitive and easy to understand (even for a "Barney" like myself). The days we spent with Ethan were definitely the most memorable and rewarding of our trip, so we will definitely be looking him up again on our next journey to the islands!

In one word, AMAZING! Ethan is so extremely patience. Very sweet, kind easygoin' person. The waves were very good for beginners like me, and in no time I surfed from Ethan to the beach all by myself! 🏄 the best place for surflessons on kauai for sure!

Scheduled and confirmed a lesson for our daughter and the guy never showed up. We waited for 45 minutes and he quit responding to text messages and didn’t answer phone calls. If you don’t want to do the lesson, just effing say so.

JD is the man and helped my wife and I (both first time surfers) get up and on the board, riding waves. It turns out I am horribly out of shape and experienced "noodle arms", but JD kept it up helping me get as many waves in as possible.

Beautiful spot for beginner surfing lessons, with gentle, waist-deep waves that go on forever. My kids loved it!

Keo and Ethan were awesome from the moment met them. Smiles and fun the whole time. 9 kids got up on their first try and none had ever surfed before. Highly highly recommended and awesome experience we will never forget.

Just got back from a 2 week Christmas/New Year trip to Kauai with my family. My dad decided it was time for my sisters and him to try surfing for the first time. We booked out surfing lesson before we left CA, but ended up switching the day (which they were fine with). Drew was our instructor and he was very helpful and patient with us, he also said that he's able to get everyone to stand up on the board (which turned out to be true for all of us!). Hanalei was a great place to learn because the beach is shallow and the waves weren't too big. I had a great time and would definitely recommend surf lessons through Kauai North Shore Surfing School, especially with Drew. The lesson was $60 a person, 4 people per lesson, and lasted for 2 hrs, definitely plenty of time to get up on a wave. We had so much fun we decided to book stand up paddle board lessons with Drew a few days later. It was at 8am (less wind) and consisted of a quick lesson, paddle boarding on a river (beautiful) and then Drew took us out on the ocean for a the end (it was pretty hilarious when all of us fell off once the water wasn't flat). All in all it made for a great time and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to try surfing in a beautiful and friendly environment.

Ron Wolfe is a fantastic instructor -- extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic, with a great way with kids.

I took a surfing lesson and had a blast. My instructor, Dane, was mellow and encouraging, and an excellent teacher. I'm 57 years old, and I got up on the board. These folks do a great job and Hanalei Bay is breathtaking.

Absolutely wonderful and personal surfing experience with Ron. He only does one lesson per day, and we had no rush or a strict 2-hour limit. More like hanging out with an experienced surfer than getting a lesson. He is extremely positive and encouraging. The beach training is minimal and he gets you right into the water. He coaches you before each wave and adjusts his approach and gives feedback after each attempt. It felt like a very customized lesson. Can't wait to visit again!

I recently returned from a week in Kauai's north shore and used them for both surfing and stand up paddle (SUP) lessons. They did a wonderful job teaching me and my wife how to SUP. We took both the intro and advanced SUP course and had a great time. I have to disclose I live in California and have been surfing for about 20 years. When I got to Hanalei Bay, I wanted someone with patience and better surfing teaching skills than me - I had been trying to teach my wife unsuccessfully for several years. We ended up with Keo, who is a former professional surfer. He had my wife standing up within one lesson and she really enjoyed herself. Thanks. I also liked the meet up location. TOTALLY AWSOME! I think Ron has to be the best surfing coach ever! He puts things in a perspective where one can understand how to approach surfing. I promise that after surfing with him for merely an hour you will be not only standing on your board, but trying to do turns. My husband and I felt like we made a friend after surfing with Ron for 2 days. He took the time to explain what we wern't getting and helped us to get it before we left! I look forward to surfing with with him again VERY soon! Did I mention he is one of the coolest people I have met! The day we were leaving to go back to the mainland, my husband and I decided that we wanted to buy boards instead of keep spending the money to rent them everywhere we go. So, we call up Ron to get his opinion on a proper board for our level. Just so happened that he had a few boards that would fit us. Your not just paying someone to explain surfing for a mere 2 hours and take your money and get nothing out of it, with Ron its personal and you leave knowing and appreciating surfing on another degree!

My boyfriend and I had a private 2 hour lesson with Katie. She was awesome, we both got up quite a few times. She was very patient and encouraging. The bay was beautiful and we got out there early so it was not busy. We feel confident we learned enough we could try going solo next time. I was nervous at first getting out there but I am definitely sold, surfing is soooo much fun!!!

On our trip to Kauai the one thing that my kids and I wanted to do was to learn how to surf. We found the Kauai North Shore Surfing School and we're totally happy that we did! Our instructor Keo was excellent and after a brief introduction we were in the water and surfing! It was definitely a highlight of our trip to Kauai!
