We were looking for a reasonable, clean hotel for one night in Miami Beach. We stumbled on the Kayak Hotel on Expedia and decided to book it. When we arrived we were confused where to park. After a quick trip in the lobby we were told there was a public parking garage right across the street for $20 a day. Score, that's a bargain in Miami.
The lobby is adorable. Check in was easy. The front desk employees walked us through the process because it is self check in (hint - type in your name exactly as it appears on your reservation). Minutes later we had our keys and we're on our way to our room. From what I could see the first floor is lobby, coffee bar, regular bar and seating. Second floor are the hotel rooms and third floor is the pool with quaint seating and gathering spots. When I say pool, think of a larger hot tub sized pool. You definitely aren't doing laps but it was nice and very tropical.
Our room was small but had everything you could need. The bed was very comfortable and so were the pillows. We turned the air way down because the public areas of the hotel were warm. The room had a safe and room to hang up your clothes, limited drawer space and a desk. The bathroom was larger with a large rain head shower.
There were a few things that I would recommend when it comes to the details. They gave us 2 towels, 2 hand towels but 1 face cloth. They don't provide a bar of soap but they do have hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. I am a bar of soap girl but I made due. However the shampoo, shower gel and conditioner mounted in the wall would spin when you pressed down on the ones of the end (think hands of a clock). The shower floor was pretty slippery and they don't have a shower mat so you have to be very careful. I didn't see a clock in the room but we had our phones so we were fine. Interestingly we could not figure how to turn one of the lights off so we had to unscrew the bulb to turn it off. I thought it was just me but it was hard wired into the ceiling and there was no switch in the room that me or my husband could find to turn it off. We were also confused with the 2 TV remotes. It took us a while to figure it out and we never really did but we weren't in the room long enough for it to be an issue.
One thing that did concern me is when we got back to the hotel around 11 from a night out, the front door was unlocked but no one was in the lobby. You don't need a key to use the elevators so anyone could have come in and roamed around the hotel. I think if the people working have to leave they lobby, they have a key lock outside so only guests can enter and an intercom for guests
checking in to ring the employees or the elevators should be equipped with key access for security and safety.
Overall I would stay there again. It was clean, comfortable, perfectly located for our purposes and reasonably priced.
As a side note all the employees were so nice. Great job of hiring and training. They were welcoming and friendly.
