The place is an institution. The longstanding bakery is the go-to place for mawa cakes, shrewsberry cookiee, and other baked goods, and to the tourists, it’s a Pune icon to take something from for their loved ones.
I have been going to Kayani Bakery since 2011, and its craze has only increased with time. Now, you have to stand in a queue at any given time to enjoy a few of there offerings, and if you arrive a little late, you might not get what you want.
But is all the hype really worth it?
Let’s find out.
There is not much to the ambience of this place, it’s a small place with a long line of people waiting to get their 2 mins inside the shop. The lines moves fast, but it is a line and who likes standing in a line. So, I won’t comment much on the ambience.
Now the food. Over time, I have tried a lot of there offerings.
1. Shrewsbury cookies: Delicate, rich and delicious. These cookies are definitely cloud like and beautiful with a hot cup of tea, but are Kayani’s biscuits exceptionally great? Perhaps not. 4/5
2. Mawa cake: Soft, spongy and mildly sweet, but again, nothing outstanding.
4/5
3. Brazil nut cookies: These are great. Amazing flavours and satisfying crunch. 4.5/5
4. Wine cookies: Good. 4/5
The place is definitely a scrumptious hit of nostalgia, but as a bakery of cakes and cookies, I would rate them 4/5 at best. Some of there offerings like cream rolls and khari are quite ordinary.
As far as the service is concerned, they are cakes are literally selling like hot cakes, and that shows in there service. They are quick, efficient, but they don’t necessarily care about you, as such. They just want to fulfill the order and move on. 3/5
PS: The prices are slightly on the higher end.
Overall 3/5
