I joined my husband for a long weekend at Kaza Lodge. He traveled from Livingstone by road, while I flew into the new slick Kasane airport from Johannesburg. We met at Kasane immigration where we were picked up by our lodge guide and helped through Botswana and Namibia customs formalities. A 45 minute boat ride along the lovely river brought us to the lodge. Built around an 800 year old Baobab tree, its thatched roof and wooden deck has views over the Zambezi river from the dining and lounge area. Inviting loungers beckon around a rim pool. |The staff are warm, welcoming and friendly and we were treated like royalty. The manager, Raphael, was always on hand to answer questions and assist in any way. |Our room was at the very end of the walkway; spacious and comfortable with a small deck and lovely river views. Constant hot water, 24 hour electricity, mosquito nets and an air con for those guests not familiar with Africa and its creatures should put paid to any previous negative reviews! |We enjoyed our fishing attempts on the river and side channels with TT, loved watching the diverse water birds from the boat and gained insights into the lives of the fishermen living on the Island. |Our meals were delicious, well presented and generous. Staff were delightful and our comfort and enjoyment was paramount to them. |As Impalila island is not in a game park, we did a boat cruise along the Chobe for some close up game viewing. |A great weekend! Thank you to everyone at the lodge and at the Flame of Africa offices. |
